Magnetic Magic
Pros:
I bought these magnetic tiles for my foster daughter, and she simply loves them. This child will make everything from shapes to structures and literally spends hours doing this.
What really impresses me is how the tiles will weave playtime into learning. She doesn’t even realise she’s working on developing her very important skills, including spatial awareness and problem solving-skills that are brilliant, of course.
The tiles are well-made and nontoxic, which makes me completely at ease when she is playing with them. Besides, they are easy to clean. That indeed makes life a little easier!
The bright colours catch her eye, and the strong magnets keep her masterpieces upright without frustration. It is a true delight to just watch her play with something she loves so much.
Having seen the amount of joy they have given her, I’m sure these would make great birthday or Christmas presents for any other child. They appeal to a wide age range and are great for encouraging imaginative play.
Verdict:
These magnetic tiles have turned out to be a huge success with my foster daughter. They entertain her for hours and at the same time contribute greatly to her learning and development process. For any person who is willing to give such a present which would be fun and educational too, I highly recommend these tiles.
Magnetic Fun That Sticks Around!
The Mauikay Magnetic Tiles Baby Toys are a delightful addition to our household. My kids have been absolutely captivated by these 42-piece magnetic building blocks, spending hours assembling all sorts of creative structures. The pieces are sturdy and snap together with ease, making them a joy to use even for younger children. They’re also compatible with other magnetic tile sets, which has been a bonus when we’ve had friends over.
What I appreciate most is how these tiles quietly encourage my children’s problem-solving and logical reasoning skills, without them even realising it. They’ve been so engrossed in building that I’ve managed to enjoy a peaceful cup of tea—or three! The Mauikay tiles have definitely sparked their imagination, with everything from simple towers to more complex designs emerging from our living room floor.
As for quality, these tiles feel solid and durable, with magnets that are surprisingly strong. We’ve already had several ‘tests’ involving accidental drops and some enthusiastic play, and the tiles have held up wonderfully. I also love that they’ve provided a great opportunity for family bonding. We’ve had some good laughs and friendly competition while trying to outdo each other’s creations.
Overall, I highly recommend the Mauikay Magnetic Tiles. They’re worth every penny for the hours of entertainment they provide, and they’ve become a firm favourite in our household. Whether as a birthday present or a surprise Christmas gift, these tiles are a fantastic choice for kids of all ages.
We’ve had a lot of fun building with these over the past couple of weeks
We’ve had a lot of fun building with these over the past couple of weeks. They’re bright, colorful, but the best part is that they’re different and have encouraged us to build differently than we would with Lego, Duplo or building blocks. The toys are made from strong materials and aren’t flimsy. Recommended!
Magnetic Tiles Baby Toys, 42PCS Magnetic Building Blocks
This is a bright, colourful magnet set that has all sorts of bits and pieces to help your little one explore and create with only their imagination to get in the way. There is a sheet of basic ideas which is a great place to start from basic shapes to 3D structures but realistically, most little ones (and big ones ) will simply enjoy playing and making things up as they go. Great STEM toy too…what parent doesn’t love an educational toy that little ones love to play and learn without realising! You will need more tiles though, so this is a good starter set.
Great for teaching internal structure.
These tile magnets on their own are very flimsy and prone to fall down, however use the same tiles to build up an internal support and the build becomes incredibly strong. Its definitely an interesting toy that your child will have to consider their builds well or face the frustration of a wobbly structure that is doomed to fall apart.
They are pastel in colour which is actually a really nice thing about these because they are not as childish and can appeal to an older child.
The possibilities with a little imagination is only limited by the number of tiles you have to build. Will you sacrifice support structure for height or will you build strong and small? These are so good I got 2 and its still not enough, but I guess you can keep on going.
They are well built, magnets are strong and educational, definitely recommended.
Good starter set of magnetic building tiles
This 42-piece magnetic tile construction set features a charming pastel colour scheme, making it equally appealing to both girls and boys. While the set is compact, limiting the scale of creations, it serves as an excellent introductory kit that can be easily expanded with additional sets. The inclusion of an instruction booklet is a helpful touch, offering ideas for building, but with a little imagination, the possibilities are endless. The quality is solid for the price, no sharp edges and easy for little ones to hold and put together and overall presentation of this set is good making it suitable for gifting.
Good fun, good value, but magnets a bit weak compared to others.
We’ve had a few of these magnetic tile sets over the years, and they are great fun – kids (of many ages) love building things with them. There’s just something deeply compelling about magnets snapping together. And these are pretty decent value (14.99 as I write) – not the cheapest you will find, but a lot cheaper than the main branded competition. They also include tiles that go over the magnetic squares, enabling you to make more lifelike houses etc., which is a nice touch.
They are also not of the same quality as better branded versions. The magnets are simply a lot less powerful, which means that your creations are prone to sag – you can see that quite well in the ‘ball’ in the photo above, where the bottom is squashed by the tiles above. It also means that if you pick them up to move/carry around, they will likely fall apart – which was the fate of both creations above! Perhaps more importantly, it also makes it far more difficult to build anything that requires tension to hold it together as you build. Unlike the best known brand, building the ball above made it feel at times like you need three hands…
Since the branded version costs 2-3 times the price, you could buy 2-3 boxes of these, and that would really help with one of the limits of this kind of toy – the simple need for more shapes to build much that is interesting. The pictures in the listing above – at least as I write – show a lot of big exciting creations that could in no way be created without multiple kits.
Personally, I wouldn’t buy these as a special present for a kid (Christmas, birthday, etc) as they just aren’t quite as good. They aren’t the best example of these toys. That said, a couple of boxed will give hours of excellent fun and satisfaction. We’ve found that kids from toddler to young teens will sit playing very happily with them for some time. Personally I use them for a playgroup, where I’ve mixed multiple boxes in a way that gives a lot of good fun!
Great starter se
The listing suggests from age 2, but the box says 3 years and up.
I would say this is very dependant on the indivdual child, but I wouldn’t gift them on a 2nd birthday.
This is a nice starter set, to see if a child enjoys this kind of construction toy. The leaflet in the box gives 12 ideas of things to make, but the last 2 require two sets as there are insufficient pieces in just one.
This kit contains 20 squares (5 each of 4 colours) and 16 triangles (4 each of the 4 colours), all of which have a magnet on each side. There are also 6 pieces that push into the centre of a square to give a window (x2), door or grid, or a brick/tile effect (x2).
If purchasing this as an add-on for a child who already has this kind of construction toy, you will need to check the sizes first. I have these kits in two different sizes, and they don’t work with each other.
The pastel colours of this set make me think it’s more likely to be given to a girl, but there’s no reason a boy can’t also use it.
I haven’t found any sharp edges or loose magnets.
All the pieces pack up neatly into a compact box, making this easy to take on holidays if it’s a favourite toy.
Great idea, very simple to use, and a good value set, grab a couple !
These are great ideas for young children. As the magnets stick the pieces together and align them, they don’t require the same level of manual dexterity or hand strength which may be required with more advanced construction toys. So, a great option for younger ones.
There are square pieces and triangular pieces, with each piece having two magnets along each edge. the magnets aren’t very strong, so don’t present a pinching danger at all. But they are just strong enough to hold the pieces together to build 3 dimensional shapes. Likewise, it’s very easy to pull them apart and move them around. No tools or special skills are needed.). In the kit there are also some non-magnetic panels with walls and house pieces, these are simply friction slots in the square sections], again all very easy to do. (Actually, quite fun for adults too), and very quick to pack away afterwards, with no small parts, tools or mess.
So yes, a fun but educational toy, that encourages creativity whilst assisting with manual dexterity and 3D spatial awareness. For the price, I would suggest getting a couple of sets, which will enable them to make some of the larger items shown. (this might not initially be obvious, so a start off for that)
Great idea, very simple to use, and a good value set. Highly recommended.
