Shark corded vacuum
We bought this as our cordless shark worked well but we felt it didn’t enough suck to clean the main carpet. This corded one is brilliant, gets the carpet so clean. And at a get price.
If only there was a way of reducing the height when you store it away, doesn’t fit under the stair cupboard.
great cleaning power, difficult to spot the scratches.
The product was sold as having some serious cosmetic defect, but it’s hard to see the small scratches so a great bargain. It doesn’t have the manual, but it is available online, so it’s no problem. This is a great vacuum cleaner. It’s a little heavy and clumsy but the suction and cleaning abilities are on par with the much more expensive Miele I had… and no bag costs to add on, what’s not to love?
I LOVE IT! Best vac I’ve ever had.
I’ve always had Dyson Animal vacs for dog hair. Problem was, long hair wrapped around roller which always had to be cut off. This SHARK is a game changer!! I have long hair as well as a dog. This vac cuts the hair as it vacs so it doesn’t wrap around the roller AT ALL! It’s brilliant! It’s heavy but I look at it as a good work out. It’s easy to take apart, empty the container and use the hose. The vac head is small but great for getting in to nooks. The vac stem pivots, which makes it easy to go around furniture etc. The power is incredible! It makes me realise how poor a job my old vac did. The dirt that this vac picked up within a few minutes was shocking. It’s great for taking the main body off and carrying it to do the stairs, car etc. The collection bin is smaller than my old one but it’s so simple to empty, it’s not an issue. The little light is actually useful for dark corners. I actually look forward to vacuuming with this vac. I also love the 3 different floor settings, hard floor, carpet or rug. Very useful. I really wish I bought one years ago and will stick with Shark from now on. I’m very impressed.
Powerful but a little heavy and cumbersome
Very powerful, does a great job of cleaning on both hard floors and carpet. Flexible configurations with the powered lift-away section. Quite quiet for the suction provided.
I do find it heavy and quite difficult to manoeuvre in basically all configurations. The hose is a standard hose so I really miss the extendable one that my ancient Dyson used to have. I find myself extending a little too far and even as heavy as the main unit is, it comes flying over and crashes into me or tips over.
I also find the “aroma” element completely pointless. I don’t need an air freshener built into my vac with disposable plastic cartridges. Make the hose better or the floor head smaller or reduce the weight instead, Shark!
It is good, don’t get me wrong, but probably not suited to homes where lots of manoeuvring is required.
Hoover is easy to build and use
My carpets look brand new best hoover I ever bought and my Lino in the kitchen is nice and clean 100 percent picks up hairs and dirt of the floor and it’s definitely anti wrap no hairs on the brush underneath I used it on my chair hairs came of brillia
Fantastic cleaner....but...
Bought this as a replacement for an ageing Dyson that I was sick of having to repair. We have always had Dyson`s in the past, and always thought them the best out there….until we tried the Shark! This machine is amazing. Went over carpet with Dyson in morning, and after assembling the Shark went over the same carpet….WOW! The amount of debris it picked up that the Dyson had missed was exceptional. We love the design that means the machine is so usable and suitable for all types of carpet and floor. The ability to separate the powered machine is also so useful and easy. This machine is amazingly designed……except for one major fault….whatever idiot decided to have the power lead attached to the right hand side of the machine should be fired! This design error means that you are forever getting wrapped up in the power lead. How could they have approved this? An amazing machine ruined by one small design error.
I have always used Dyson cordless hoovers but they get blocked so quickly. I decided to try a shark. It has good suction and picks up larger bits with ease. It’s a good size and I like that you can detach it when hoovering stairs etc
The only negative for me is the weight of the item, it’s is very heavy to pick up and move around. Aside from this it’s a lot cheaper than Dyson and is made well.
I purchased this vacuum on Black Friday as our old Dyson is on its last legs and I’ve been quite impressed with our in-laws Shark vacuum (of a different model).
Upon receiving it I was quite impressed with a few things. For the eco conscious of us, I was really happy to see mostly paper packaging. I don’t remember any plastic waste. The second thing I was impressed by was how easy and intuitive it was to assemble. Third thing, the engineering and robustness of the main body. However on that last point it’s worth mentioning that although the body is solid, the ancillary pieces are not as good quality or well thought out and that’s a shame!
Some of the plastic feels brittle and I’d be very careful not to drop anything, especially the dust compartment. The hose, though it’s robust, it’s almost too robust and so actually extending it out is difficult, especially if you don’t want to drag or knock the vacuum about when you want to suck up some pesky corner bits.
Unfortunately my biggest critique of this product is the cable. I am still unsure what happened, but I actually had to send my first one of these back as after using it, I was coiling the cable around the tidy and noticed some chunks out of the cable. How this happened, I’m not 100% sure, maybe it arrived this way and I didn’t notice or maybe option 2 is I accidentally ran over the cable. Either way I’m not impressed.
One of the big reasons I purchased from this brand is because it seems like some manufacturers (Dyson) are moving away from corded versions of their products and I think that’s is irresponsible and dumb and I don’t want to patronise that behaviour. Call me old fashioned, but not everything needs a lithium batteries that might only perform well for a few years till it needs to be chucked out and you need a whole new system because the battery that fit your vacuum 5 years ago is no longer produced! Went on a tangent there, Rant over!
But the point I’m trying to make is if you as a manufacturer are going to put a cord in your product, put one in that’ll last! Not one where the covering of the cord is just a step up from putty. I did do a google search and it seems like the cords are a bit of a design floor and though not impossible to replace, the cords for these things are a pain to replace. A cord on a vacuum should be designed to take a bit of a beating or be easy to replace. All that to say, upon receiving my second unit, I will be extra careful and so should anyone reading this review.
And if Shark are reading this, don’t give up on the corded versions and make an effort to update the cord on existing vacuums, maybe even do a recall?
Let’s end this with some more positives. This thing is quite light and really easy to move around, for context Im a big guy, so have no issues moving this about. A smaller person might find it a bit difficult, but by no means a problem and with the ability to lift off the base (really cool feature) I would assume that most people except those with really bad backs or very elderly wouldn’t have an issue with one of these. My inlaws are in their mid 60s and are doing fine with it. I love the extra touch of the little headlights, chefs kiss there. The suction power is excellent and I love the choice of variability in power. And though a bit finicky, it is pretty easy to empty. Despite a couple of quibbles, I would throughly recommend this product. If Shark released an updated version with the upgrades in the future, I’d consider this a pretty perfect vacuum!
We had to replace the Dyson we had downstairs, which is the main hoover in the house. and over the years the dyson’s have been getting smaller and smaller collection bins, and stiffled on innovation – yet still command the platinum/premiem price.
So as we had already has a Shark cordless stick vacume for upstairs – which we have had for a couple of years and been impressed (compared the the cordless stick dyson we used to have) it was a no brainer on what brand we were going to look out for.
Out wish list was:
Cabled – for maximum power
Larger Dust Collection Bin
Upright (getting older, so less bending please)
Pet Attachements
HEPA for Air Quality
We have 2 medium dogs. we hoover 3 times A week. We ordered the Shark Stratos +Pet Unit and this arrived within a few days. Well packaged thoughout.
The unit was very easy to put to gether, very minimal assembly. The hoover is not heavy at all (concerned from some reviews we had read). what we did find was that on deep pile carpet, you need to adjust the suction/floor type button – then the unit is easy to push and pull across the floor without issue. the head is not as movable as it’s cordless counterpart, but does the job just fine.
We love the powered lift away so the sairs and the likes are easy peasy. Only downside, is the darned powerlead, is on the right hand side, which means it’s forever getting in the way (i’m right handed). also when placing the powered liftaway unit baxck together on the main unit, the suction hose and power cables are effectivly on different sides, meaning it’s a two handed operation to put back together – that seems like a bit of a design oversight, surly putting the cables and suction hoses on the same side would have made that a bit easier.
Before we used the Shark, We twice hoovered the lounge, and our dyson did a (ish) job, the dust bin was full (althoug it’;s small) and the room looked kinda cleak – some pet hair left on the carpet where the dyson had not been man enough to collect (even with a 3 month old brush bar replacement (OEM).
Rolled out the shiney new Shark Stratos, so…. lugged in, turned on, floor selector set to Low Pile Carpet, and away we go, hoovering for approx 5mins. dust Bin Full, and we mean FULL.. the dust collected and pet hair was amazing… Considering the room had just been hoovered before hand we were absoluty gobsmaked at howmuch had been sucked up by the shark.
Emptied the dust bin (which is super easy on this unit) and hoovered again, still picked up about a 3rd of the dust bin, in mainly dust, very litted pet hair on the second run.
We think this just goes to show how good this hoover is at picking up dust and everything else. Such a great unit and the carpet at the end of the hoovering looks great, the pile is lifted (something which doesn’t always happen on 5 year old carpet) and the carpet looked fresher than when we have used a rug doctor on it in the past.
This is a fantastic hoover, we’ll never purchase another Dyson now, Shark Alll the way for us…
+Pet Brush is great at getting pet hairs of dopg blankets, and the bottom of the sofa’s
+it looks cool
+Great suction and good sized dust collection bin
+power liftaway is great, moderate weight but easy to use
+easy to use
+the odur control is great, doesn’t smell at all, always seems fresh and clean
-Power cable on seperat eside form suction hose – it’s just really awkward 🙁
-LED’s on floor unit are more decorative, than functional (needed a few more and better angling/positioning).
You will not be dissapointed, we also got one for parent
Well recommended
