Unbeatable Value and Incredibly Simple to Use My Go-To Smart Bulbs!
I recently picked up this 2-pack because one of my original Tapo bulbs eventually reached the end of its lifespan after heavy use. Honestly, I didn’t even think twice about switching brands. These are, without a doubt, some of the easiest smart bulbs I’ve ever had the pleasure of using, and this recent purchase only reinforces that.
Ease of Use & Setup
If you are intimidated by smart home tech, this is the bulb for you. Setup is completely foolproof. You simply screw it in, download the Tapo app, and follow the on-screen prompts to connect it to your Wi-Fi. The app itself is delightfully simple, clean, and intuitive. Integrating it with my voice assistant took seconds, and it has been incredibly responsive ever since.
Size, Weight, and Colour
Physically, the bulb has a clean, minimalist white base that doesn’t look ugly if exposed. It conforms to standard A60 bulb dimensions, meaning it fits perfectly into standard lamp shades and ceiling fixtures without sticking out awkwardly. It is also surprisingly lightweight (weighing in at around 70 grams), so it won’t make your smaller desk lamps or floor lamps top-heavy—a common issue with older, bulkier smart bulbs. The light output itself is fantastic: it’s plenty bright, the colours/temperatures are vibrant, and it dims beautifully without any harsh flickering.
Value for Money
The value here is simply outstanding. You are getting premium smart lighting features at a fraction of the cost of higher-end competitors like Philips Hue, especially since these come in a convenient 2-pack.
Pros:
No Hub Required: Connects straight to your existing 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, saving you from buying extra equipment.
Flawless App: The Tapo app is user-friendly and great for setting schedules or routines.
Perfect Form Factor: Standard size and very lightweight; fits all standard fixtures easily.
Great Value: Fantastic price-to-performance ratio for a 2-pack.
Cons:
Like all electronics, they do eventually die (though my first batch lasted a very long time before I needed this replacement).
As they are Wi-Fi based, they require a stable internet connection to use the smart features (if your Wi-Fi drops, they just act as normal switches).
Who is this for?
If you are wondering, “Do I need to be a tech expert to use these?” or “Do I need to buy a smart hub?”, the answer to both is no. If you want a reliable, cost-effective way to automate your home lighting, schedule your lamps while you are on holiday, or just turn off the lights from the comfort of your bed, I cannot recommend these enough.
Fab!
Amazing bulbs, connected to Alexa, Google Home and I have it on the app on my phone alongside a Tapo camera.
You can change the colour, brightness, warm tone or cool tone etc. Good to play about with!
Does the job
Works well, app easy to set up and bulb likewise. A good budget friendly bulb which is useful for shift workers as you can set it up to be on at certain times
I bought these bulbs as white lights are very harsh on my eyes and having the ability to change the light to warm is very appealing to me. It is very easy to use. I have connected mine to my Alexa so I don’t have to move to turn it on. It also has the abilities to change to any other colour. I have an experienced any flickering or problems of that sort.
I’ve used a few of these Tapo bulbs now and they’re always spot on. This 2-pack is great value and, like the others, they were really simple to get connected to the Wi-Fi without any fussing about.
The app is straightforward to use and the colours are brilliant—you can get the lighting exactly how you want it. They’re reliable too; I’ve not had any issues with them dropping out or losing connection. If you have the capability to add these to a dedicated 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network then you’ll definitely benefit from that, but if not, don’t worry as they still work fine on normal Wi-Fi. If you’re looking to smarten up your lighting, you can’t go wrong with these.
I wanted light bulbs that connected to an app so that I didn’t have to move to turn them on and off – I was bedbound at the time. I had the Tapo video doorbell, with which I was happy and for which I already had the app installed, so I bought the Tapo light bulbs.
Connecting them was a little tricky – thankfully, I had a tall friend to help, as my phone needed to be very, very close to the bulb to connect.
Over the course of a year, they have stayed constantly connected to my network with only one bulb needing to be reconnected following a 24-hour power outage, which was reassuring.
Once linked, it was easy to turn them on and off via the app. The app has a large range of options for colour and brightness, and even provides preset themes. The timer and scheduling functions are handy, too. The app also shows how much energy each bulb uses. Honestly, though, I mostly use the app to switch the lights on and off.
The bulbs have been in place for a year, and I’m happy with their performance. When they need replacing, I will be purchasing these Tapo light bulbs again.
Brilliant for smart lighting
At first I didn’t quite know if this was going to be useful. I bought it for the main light in my living room. When linked to Alexa the children had lots of fun asking Alexa to change the colour 45 times an hour. We moved house and had a baby, and got two more of these lightbulbs for lamps. They are brilliant now, as long as everyone remembers to use Alexa or the app rather than the switch!
Great to be able to adjust brightness and colour while baby is asleep, without talking and using the app. There is also a party mode which flashes all the colours, pretty good for a kitchen disco
Bargain smart bulbs
Why anyone would buy any other bulbs I really don’t know. These work great with the app, are plenty bright enough and the different colours are pretty cool. For the price, absolutely cannot complai
Wow
Arrived on time and safely received, safely packaged, quality is great, easy to install and link to my wifi which was compatible for me as i don’t own a hub such as echo or Alexa, love that i can also control it from my tapo app when out of the home, light bulbs are easy to fit just the same as fitting a standard bulb, speed to change colours are very quick and have plenty of choices, also able to set the timer on and off, really good value for money for pack of 2 smart bulbs, have recommended to friends and family already.
Great Quality, Easy Setup, and Value for Money!
It was incredibly easy to set up — I had it running in just a few minutes with clear instructions. The quality of the bulb is impressive, and it adds a modern touch to my home. The range of brightness and colors really enhances the atmosphere in any room. For the price, it’s definitely great value for money. Highly recommend for anyone looking to upgrade their lighting.
Brilliant idea, work great, look great, easy to install & set up & work. Look like normal bulbs but work so much better & so many colours. Great fun changing the colours & the ability to dim or brighten the light so easy, great value for money, so glad go these bulbs

Bulb
I recently purchased the Tapo Smart Bulb and I have been extremely impressed with its performance. As someone who is always looking for ways to make my home more efficient and convenient, this smart bulb has been a game changer.
First of all, the installation process was incredibly easy. All I had to do was screw in the bulb, download the Tapo app, and connect the bulb to my WiFi network. It took less than 5 minutes and I was able to control the bulb with my phone right away.
One of the best features of this smart bulb is the ability to change the color and brightness. I love being able to adjust the lighting to fit my mood or the occasion. The range of colors is impressive and the brightness can go from dim to very bright, making it perfect for any setting.
The Tapo app also allows for scheduling and automation. I can set the bulb to turn on and off at certain times, which is great for when I am away from home. I can also create scenes and routines, so the bulb turns on and off in a certain pattern. This has been especially helpful in creating a relaxing and cozy atmosphere in my bedroom.
One of the biggest advantages of having a WiFi smart bulb is the ability to control it from anywhere. I no longer have to get out of bed to turn off the lights, I can just use my phone. This has also been helpful when I forget to turn off the lights after leaving the house, I can simply do it remotely.
The Tapo Smart Bulb is also compatible with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which is a great added convenience. I can now control the lights with just my voice, making it even easier to use.
Overall, I highly recommend the Tapo Smart Bulb for anyone looking to make their home smarter and more efficient. It is easy to install, has a wide range of features, and has made my life much more convenient. I will definitely be purchasing more for other rooms in my house.
Plenty bright for a reasonably sized room when using white light. My rooms are 4×5 yards and I find that a brightness setting 25% is comfortable for most tasks. According to my smart meter this only uses a couple of watts.
Set up was easy. One the account was created the Tapo app talks you through the process complete with diagrams. I did have a problem initialising one of the bulbs which it refused to add to the virtual network. Reading the troubleshooting guide the app presented told me that I shouldn’t be running a VPN while initialising the bulb. Turned it off and hey presto. The VPN doesn’t affect interacting with the bulb after it has been initialised and added to your home network.
Timers and schedules are stored on the bulb, so you don’t have to have an active network or mobile device available once these are set up.
You can easily configure what the bulb does when it is switched on. It can use the same colour and brightness setting it was using when it was switched off or it can default to any colour and brightness you specify. Means that you don’t have to fiddle around with a device when you turn it on at the wall.
There are some weaknesses. The themes, which let you have the bulb changing colour continuously, aren’t great. They either switch directly from one colour to another or fade towards black, change colour and brighten again. Missing is an option to move smoothly through the colour spectrum from one colour to the next – even my dumb 16 colour bulb with a remote control can do that, so it’s strange this can’t. It also doesn’t seem to be possible to set a theme as the default on setting which means you can’t use a schedule to have the bulb switch on running a theme. The gradual on/off setting isn’t gradual enough – it takes under a second. It would be nice if you could set how long it takes to go from off to your desired brightness and vice versa. One can only hope that a future software update may correct some of these weaknesses.
This is nowy fifth Tapo device, and once you set up the first, all others take seconds to set up in the app.
Alexa set up is immediate and works well.
Google seems to be trickier and flakier, once set up with Google you need to go into Google home, select the d vice again, and then it is set up, not just when you add it to Google in the TAPO app.
I cannot speak to the usage time as yet as I have only had my Tapo devices for a couple of months for the old st, however if I find any issues I will update this review.
Tips if this is your first TAPO device:
1: download the app first, before turning anything on, plugging anything in.
2: Turn ” location” on your phone on, the app asks like it is an option but the software cannot “pair” the device without location, don’t ask me why, makes no sense to me either, I have already written to the developers to ask them to fix this but had no reply as yet.
3: if you are adding to Alexa, simply follow the in app instructions.
If you are adding to Google ( so you can say ok Google , Turn living room lights off) then follow the in app instructions, and then when set up is completed, go to the Google home app on your phone, and add the device there too, otherwise Google won’t find it/ them.
4: leave your wall switch on, because it’s only function now is to power the device, the wall switch will not turn the lights on any more, use Alexa/ Google commands or the app on your phone. If you switch the wall switch off, Google/ Alexa and the app will not be able to turn the lights on.
I have been reassured by the manufacturer that when Google/ Alexa or the app turn the lights off, they are no longer drawing power, so leaving the wall switch on will not cost you money if you told the light to be off.
Update:
One thing to note is that if you change your wifi, you need to add each device back again so have your wifi password memorized.
A tip for people in older properties with different wiring looms…
To reset your tapi device ces ( bulbs, light strips) you follow a little game of ” off and on” in the app.
That means s it plays a little animation of a bulb with the light on and the light off and you have to manually turn the light switch on and off 3 times for a soft reset or 5 times for a hard reset, in time with the animation.
If your wiring looms is a tad older, you might find this doesn’t work, and if you contact support they advise you to manually unscrew and screw in the bulb in time with the animation to ensure that when the animation says off, your bulb is disconnected and actually off, however…
I found that you can forge tottering on a stepladder to faff about with the bulbs, simply by slowing everything down, turn the light on when it says, turn it off when it says but keep it off for 4 seconds, or two ” off ” animations, repeat twice more for a soft reset and works like a charm.
Now I don’t know why, but my father who is an engineer said something about the old wiring but then got technical and my brain turned off, but this method worked for me, I told support what arrived had done to solve the issue ( because the regular soft reset worked fine in parts of the house and I realised where it was working were areas where the electrical wiring looms had been changed, where it wasn’t working are areas still on the old electrical) and I mention it here in case anyone else is having difficulty after a wifi change or their soft reset isn’t working or their hard reset isn’t working, my method might work for you and may be preferable to unscrewing and screwing back in all your bulbs.
Hope that makes sense.
