Does the job.
I bought a smaller capacity Ugreen charger recently and found it works very well. I could charge my iPhone on a weekend away without having to plug it in on the train. A relative expressed great interest in the charger, so I bought her one from another make with more ‘bells and whistles’ (like direct Apple Watch charging) but it did not work! Returned it and bought the Ugreen instead. Works fine! Recommended.
Yes
This gave my iPhone 15+ 1 full charge from around 25%, via wireless charging overnight (including some phone use before lights out). Can recharge the battery via USB-C while MagSafe charging phone.
Probably not enough for a long expedition, but handy backup. Also, wireless charging makes a difference in a rucksack/bag without snagging leads or damaging sockets.
Exactly what I needed
It’s actually a great little bit of kit that fits neatly on the back of the phone – provides a great deal of charge & also strangely although it’s heavy it makes it easier to hold and grip the phone – a sort of handle – for 20 you can’t go wrong.
Magnetic charging limited with my Samsung Note 20 Ultra
I’ve had many Anker products which have been great. This feels solid, well designed, satisfying to use.
I took this on a camping trip, and connected magnetically it to my Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (a fairly large and high end phone) to charge it while I read the newspaper in the evening. The charge indicator on the phone kept going down, albeit more slowly than without the pack attached. The display on the phone does say “fast wireless charging, x minutes until full” but the time goes up rather than down! I left it on the phone while I did other things and the charge indicator on the phone wasn’t falling, but wasn’t going up either. So in practice, for my phone, this pack won’t “charge” it magnetically in normal use although it does clearly help the phone use less of its own battery – it just charges the phone more slowly than the phone uses power!
Overnight I put the phone into its lowest power mode and by morning it was 100% charged.
My other magnetic power pack (unbranded and larger capacity) charges my phone fine (as does my Anker desktop magnetic charger) in normal use.
The listing does say wired charging is faster than magnetic (and it is) so this may not be a fault, but it’s worth being aware that if you have a big powerful phone this may not charge magnetically quite how you would expect!
Charges but charges slow
Fundamentally it works. It makes the phone very heavy and bulky, to be expected I suppose, it’s definitely not a something you want attached for a long period of time. And there is the issue. If you need to wirelessly charge, it will be attached for a while. Having said it did fully charge iPhone 15 pro-max from virtually dead but took a good hour or more though. It does the job, it’s handy to have but only charges at 7w wirelessly and you’re not slipping your phone into your pocket with this attached. Unless you have big pockets. Magnet and attachment is good, does not feel like if will fall off and I used it with MagSafe Mous case.
charges the phone 1.5 times
A little heavy compared to others i have used but it does charge the phone 1.5 times and at quite a fast rate, faster than my other power bank
magnet is strong and i’m not concerned that it may fall off at all, overall im not disappointed in the purchase it does what i need it to do
I got this because I have a trip coming up where I need to might need to top up my battery while still using the phone for photos and navigation.
I purchased it (Model: PB561) because it ticked all the boxes, mainly:
– 15w wireless charging
– USB-C
– 10,000 mAh capacity
First Impressions:
On first unboxing I was a bit taken back on how heavy and deep/thick it is. I was looking for something that I could attach to my phone and still carry in my pocket, this is way deeper than the thickness of my iPhone 15 Pro (see photos) and with it attached using the wireless charging, it is too bulky (size and weight) to carry in my pocket. I wanted something that I could leave attached to charge the phone while i am still able to easily access it for taking photos, looking up maps and using apps etc. This isn’t it.
My second disappointment was the wireless charging speed. Even though it is advertised as 15w, i found that the wireless charging on iPhone 15 Pro via MagSafe was more a trickle charge, so more 7.5w.
The USB-C will allow me to charge at a quicker rate, but that means having to have a cable attached which was something I was trying to avoid.
More research has lead me to understand that it needs to be Qi2 Certified 15W to charge at a quicker rate using wireless charging.
I do have a case on my phone and the pack does stick out slightly but that isn’t an issue for me. It has enough capacity to get my phone charge maybe 1.5 times.
Quality:
The build quality seems good, the indicators do a reasonable job of telling you how much is remaining and overall the rounded design means it feels nice to handle, but again the depth of it can make handling difficult. If you wanted to just leave this on your desk or in a bag while it charges I cannot imagine it being a problem. The finish of the materials also make it nice to handle.
Conclusion:
I have since purchased the much thinner PB560, which has half the storage capacity (5,000mAh) and have included it in the photos for comparison. Exactly the same design but a lot thinner (roughly the same depth as my iPhone 15 Pro with a case) but will only charge an iPhone 15 Pro from 0-60% (approx).
In summary, even though the size was too big for my intended use I will keep it. Having it in my rucksack I know that being out for a whole day I won’t run out of charge.
I’ve included photos of this unit (PB561) and the slimmer (PB560) for comparison. The UGREEN PB560 was far more the size I wanted and while the wireless charging was only at a lower rate, I can still use the phone reasonably easily with it attached.
Negatives:
– Too bulky to keep attached to my phone while in my pocket
– MagSafe / Wireless charging speed is 7.5w so needs to be attached for longer to get the battery topped up in comparison to Qi2 Certified 15W Ultra-Fast devices
Positive:
– Nice materials, pleasant to handle
– Good amount of ‘all day long’ power storage
– Magnetic attachment is strong
– Indicators give a rough idea of how much there is lef
