A good unit, works well and has a loud alarm
I’ve previously used X-Sense’s set of smart home smoke alarm systems, which works extremely well and I found the app intuitive and easy to use. Due to the good experience I had with their products, I was interested in trying out carbon monoxide detector too.
Unlike the smoke alarms, this is a standalone unit, that takes 2 x AA batteries which are included. It doesnt work through the app, but does have a small LED display that reads out the battery status and the CO concentration level. Below the display is a light indicator that shows green for power, yellow if there is a fault, and red if the alarm goes off.
At the top of the unit, there are 2 buttons, the Test/Silence button is used to both test the alarm and to stop it. The peak level button allows you to view the current CO levels. You also get a mounting template with screws and plugs in the box, should you wish to mount the unit on the wall and the instruction book.
Overall, this is a very functional product, it works well, and the alarm is loud, it’s ideal for monitoring CO levels, and keeping your home protected.
Compact little CO2 detector.
The X-Sense Carbon Monoxide Detector arrived packaged in plain cardboard box.
In the box you get the detector and an instruction manual.
The detector is well moulded and is nicely finished with no rough edges or any moulding flash.
A small LCD display screen advises the state of the batteries and also any CO2 content.
The unit takes standard AA batteries (not supplied) and is estimated to last up to 3 years before needing a battery change.
A decent compact CO2 detector for the home.
Quality Detecto
X-Sense carbon monoxide detector. At the time of this review, 12.79 delivered. Order arrived on time and well packed.
Uses 2 x AA Batteries (supplied)
You can either mount this sensor on the wall (screws supplied) or it will stand up on it’s own accord if surface mounted. Has an LCD screen for monitoring CO levels in real time, plus battery life indicator.
I really like the build quality of X-sense items, had a few of there items. The quality of the materials used appear to be robust, nothing looks or feels cheap about them. Plus for me I always prefer to use items I can replace the batteries in. Batteries are supposed to give a run time of three units, whilst the CO sensor is rated for 10 years.
It’s not part of X-sense series of detectors that link up.
1 x Alarm
1 x Manual
2 x AA Batteries
2 x Screws
2 x Anchor Plugs
1 x Drill Hole Space
Seems to tick all the boxes
This carbon monoxide detector is a compact, well-built device with a sleek design that stands out from bulkier models.
It features a backlit LCD display that activates when needed, showing CO levels and helping to differentiate between a real threat and a false alarm.
The detector uses an electrochemical sensor and has a 10-year lifespan, longer than many other models, with a replaceable AA battery to ensure continued operation.
The device can be mounted or used free-standing, comes with a detailed user manual, and has clear alarm and LED indicators.
Priced reasonably and backed by a five-year warranty, it offers reliable, user-friendly protection against carbon monoxide.
I was also pleased with the very loud sound during my test cycle, which compared to my other CO alarms, was significantly louder.
Practical, Easy To Use Device That Alerts At Danger & Shows Current CO Levels
I’d not come across X-Sense until now but I’ve been quite pleased with this offering despite a small issue. It comes boxed, with the detector itself (which includes 2x AA batteries), a user guide, drilling guide, and a little pack of screws and rawl plugs. You can have this freestanding or attach to the wall but I opted for the former so it sits on a sideboard in the living room.
This is a fair bit bigger than the old carbon monoxide detector we used to have but thankfully it’s also much more practical to use. I couldn’t get the batteries out or even test our old one was working so I’m glad to have this one. It’s nicely shaped with rounded oblong exterior that’s very simple and understated. There’s a digital screen on the front, buttons on the top including a test button, and the battery compartment at the back.
For first time use just remember to pull the plastic tab inside the battery compartment. The device seems to work well though I can’t comment on actual carbon monoxide detection as we’ve not had any. I’d like to hope of course that it’ll work efficiently but you never know until a day you might need it, even though you hope never to need it.
The sound is strong, the digital display lights up to make seeing it easier, and the device is straightforward enough to use, with the manual there to get the gist of what buttons to press. It’s interesting you can see peak CO levels on this one too, which goes beyond the very basic detector we had before. I also like that the device will tell you whether there are any faults or a low battery. If the little light at the front is green, you’re good to go. If not, you know to check out any problems like needing to replace the batteries. Again, this goes beyond our basic old detector and makes this much more convenient and useful.
The only thing for me is the way it arrived. Mine had some dirty marks on it so I wiped those off but there are some deep lines, almost like cut marks as though someone took a knife to the edges of it. They’re small enough cuts so it’s not a big deal, it’s just a little odd for a new device to arrive like that.
I’d say this is a good price at 15.99. It’s nicely designed for ease of use, it’s practical, and it shows CO levels as well as acting as a detector. Despite a little disappointment at the condition of the device’s exterior, I’m otherwise really happy with this. I’d say it’s a decent investment for some peace of mind for your home and your family’s safety.
Seemingly well designed and intelligent in detection.
Review of X-Sense Carbon Monoxide Detector, Battery Powered CO Alarm with Digital Display.
A well designed Type B (Electrochemical) CO2 alarm that can be used free-standing or fixed using the provided screws, it uses two supplied AA batteries and the device has a ten year life span which on the one delivered expires 06/06/2034 according to the attached label.
Supplied with the CO2 detector is one of the most comprehensive user manuals I have ever seen, 23 pages in English, five languages and 6mm thick, the actual detector only has two buttons test and peak level, there is a clear LED display on the front together with sounder for alarm and LED light to alert during dark hours, the left and right ends have the vents for CO2 detection, the alarm loud, the LED bright and the display clear in giving levels detected.
There are no user settings however this the first detector I have obtained that detects different CO2 levels over a set period of time so not an instantaneous alarm, lower levels over a longer period of time, higher levels over a shorter period so trying to avoid false alarms.
Amongst the range of features is a low battery alarm as using replaceable AA type power, the Ten year life span for the detector mandatory as the device will stop working one month after the expiry date according to the user manual, I presume this more to do with the Type “B” Electrochemical detection method used and not the power supply.
With to many features to list the user manual does covers almost all scenarios including fitting and fault rectification, as stated quite comprehensive. The device carries a five year warranty and the card does provide a UK service telephone number, this is a nice device and does inspire confidence in it’s ability however only time will tell as to durability.
Nice quality device at a reasonable price
This carbon monoxide detector/alarm looks and feels very well made and is a surprisingly small and elegant design for such a utilitarian device. At only 32mm thick it is definitely more discrete than other units, including those from the same manufacturer. The backlit LCD display (which only lights up when the button is pressed or an alarm sounds) is a nice addition as it enables you to quickly identify if there is a small amount CO present or if there has been a false alarm for some reason.
Like most people I don’t have a readily available supply of carbon monoxide, so as with all these devices you have to trust that the manufacturer’s declaration of conformity with an internationally recognised standard – in this instance EN50291 – is genuine. Based on the quality of the unit itself, the fact the company has a track record in the US and that the instructions are in clear well written English (not poorly translated from Chinese) I am inclined to believe this unit will perform as claimed.
All CO sensors have a limited life span, other units I have used were 5-7 years so the 10 years claimed by this device is great. I’m also pleased to see a replaceable battery, I think sealed-in batteries are a bad idea, even if the battery is predicted to last the life of the device you might be unlucky and get a duff one.
Priced at just under 13 (16 with 20% voucher) at time of review I think this is well priced for the functionality provided.
Loud CO alarm but not that easy to all mou
This is a great freestanding or movable CO alarm, the display is bright and shows a readying of the highest count and the current count, there is also a green amber and red LED under the display. The siren is very loud which is great in the event of an activation.
I love the design of this which is clean and well presented and more that just a box, but I found that because of the shape of the back the mounting screws need to stick out more than would be necessary if this was flat, this is my only gripe with this product though.
I think that this is excellent value for money and really well made with a quality feel and finish.
