Fast, Secure, and Portable - Fanxiang 500GB External SSD Review
I recently picked up the Fanxiang 500GB External SSD, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite tech accessories. This little device packs a punch with its blazing fast speeds and built-in fingerprint encryption, making it perfect for anyone who needs secure, portable storage on the go. Here’s my experience with it so far:
Blazing Fast Speeds:
One of the first things I noticed about this SSD is how insanely fast it is. With transfer speeds up to 1070MB/s, I can move huge files like videos and photos in no time. It’s been a game-changer, especially when I’m editing content directly from the drive—no more waiting around for files to load or transfer.
Top-Notch Security:
The fingerprint encryption is a fantastic feature, especially if you’re storing sensitive information. Setting it up was a breeze, and now I feel much more secure knowing that my data is protected. Only I can access the drive with my fingerprint, which adds an extra layer of peace of mind.
Portable and Stylish:
The SSD is super compact and lightweight, which makes it easy to carry with me wherever I go. It fits nicely in my pocket or bag, so whether I’m traveling or just heading to a coffee shop to work, I can easily bring it along. Plus, it has a sleek design that looks great with all my tech gear.
Works With Everything:
I’ve used this SSD with my Windows laptop, MacBook, Android phone, and even my new iPhone 15 without any issues. The USB-C 3.2 connection is super versatile, so I don’t have to worry about compatibility. It’s really convenient to have one drive that works with all my devices.
Built to Last:
The build quality is solid, and it feels like it can handle a few bumps without a problem. I haven’t dropped it yet (knock on wood), but it’s nice to know it’s designed to be shock-resistant.
Plug-and-Play Simplicity:
Another thing I love is how easy it is to use—just plug it in, and you’re good to go. There’s no need for any extra software or complicated setups, which is a big plus in my book.
A Few Considerations:
The only slight downside is that it’s a bit pricier than some basic SSDs, probably because of the fingerprint encryption and speed. Also, 500GB might be a bit limiting if you have a lot of data, so keep that in mind if you’re someone who needs tons of storage.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, the Fanxiang 500GB External SSD has exceeded my expectations. It’s fast, secure, and incredibly easy to use, which makes it perfect for anyone who needs a reliable, portable storage solution. Whether you’re storing work files, backing up photos, or just need extra space on the go, this SSD is definitely worth considering.
Good value for a fast secure external SSD
The first thing that came to mind with this SSD is value for money, currently priced at under 48 for 500 gigs and only 10 more for 1 TB. This is insanely good value for a fast SSD that matches the read write transfer speeds of my Samsung T7 drive via the included 10Gbps with a USB-C cable, including a USB-A adaptor.
The most curious feature for me was the included fingerprint encryption, which I have never seen before and strikes me as being rather brilliant to stop unauthorised use of your data. This is in addition to the AES 256-bit encryption. In other words, your data is safe.
The design is slim and easily fits in your pocket. The case is made of shockproof and drop proof zinc alloy, with no weak plastics in sight. This is compatible with Windows, Mac iOS and Android, so you can use it anywhere, and it is powered by simply attaching it to your device.
I am using this, temporarily at least, as a back-up drive for Time Machine on a Mac mini. It arrives formatted as exFAT, so it will work on Windows or Mac, but the Time Machine settings panel let me easily convert that to APFS. Back-ups are certainly a lot faster than the old SATA drives, but it could be used in so many other ways.
Time will tell how it is performing in a few years time, but I am really quite impressed by this so far. A five year warranty suggests the manufacture is confident they will last. My only slight grumble is that the instruction manual follows the modern trend of using impossibly small print, which is really quite frustrating and unnecessary.
