Needed to move from Windows 10 to 11
The good.
Fast.
Reasonably quiet. No problem having it sit on my desk even with performance mode set in the BIOS.
Small form factor.
Recognised Lexar NQ790 2tb NVME SSD.
Runs cool although I haven’t pushed it but the AMD chip in this box is supposed to run hotter when idling compared to the Intel equivalent.
Comes with Windows 11 PRO.
Mine came with Crucial RAM and a Kingston NVME.
USB 4 ports front and back
Could be better.
Specified with 4xUSB 3.2 ports. Found that one of the front ports was significantly slower.
Access to innards. The top cover is magnetic but this reveals a second cover plate that routes wires and needs to be removed to access RAM, NVME etc. Super fiddly. Easy to break something if you are ham fisted.
The bad (loses a star for this).
WiFi is really poor out of the box. Had to invest in an antenna to recover performance.
You can’t have a second NVME drive AND use the Oculink port.
Have started transferring software and all seems good. Will be using this mostly as an office and music software PC but it’s designed more for gaming. Seems nice and stable so far. Running 32gb RAM.
Will report again in a couple of months
Wifi Issues are not grea
I have returned one of these due to poor wifi signal. Literally 1Mbit download over wireless and frequent dropped connections. Second unit no better and read quite a few forums and fixes for this and the 790 pro. I have an EE router which support Wifi 6 and discovered that I was able to get better speeds tethering to my phone so I did the following which seems to have resolved the issues.
Press Windows X and go into device manager, find your wireless AX1675 card and go to top setting wireless mode and change from 6 to 1 ( 5Ghz). Then go to your EE router and change from wifi 6 performance to wifi 6 compatibility mode.
This has wireless speeds well within what I would expect given my internet connection >700Mbit Up and 100Mbit DN
Delivers amazing gaming performance for such a compact machine – the discrete Radeon RX 6600M really makes a difference and is almost unique in a PC of this footprint. Minisforum support is helpful and responsive.
Bought the maxed out configuration and have to say it is a very solid product. It is fairly compact and does not get too loud. The performance provided is great and you can definitely do any CPU intensive work on this very easily.
Its easy but a bit messy to open as you will need to remove some rubber pads to access the screws. Otherwise, it was very easy to add a second NVME SSD. Connectivity is also great as you have access to 2 USB-4 ports and plenty of other ports. I recommend this product.
Minisforun UM790 Pro is an amazing little tiny PC
Great performance packed per every cubic inch of this thing
Paired with DDR5 RAM and NVME disk gives blistering performance for a tiny form factor
Only small wish was a slightly bigger form factor, to allow better cooling, to allow a higher ceiling for performance
Other than that, great at normal business use and gaming
It is staggering how much power and modern architecture is packed into this small box. I got fed up with having very old and slow PC architecture in my previous PCs, slowing down data transfers and photo editing. In this system, everything is up-to-date. The fast processor, decent graphics card and 64GB of DDR5 RAM should last me a long time. Oh, and it comes with Windows 11 Home. It doesn’t say what OS comes with their products on Amazon. Someone told me that it comes with Windows 11 Professional.
Great value with 21% off so I had no hesitation. Just what I was looking for – fast, quiet, high spec. Replaced an enthusiast’s aging big box i7 – and I have absolutely no regrets. Soooo compact I don’t know my desk. With thunderbolt ports who needs massive internal HDDs – my M.2s are now in enclosures. Onboard graphics are fine for a non-gamer – drives my 4k, 32″ screen impeccably.
So, I awas very pleasently surprised by it’s performance. Is quiet, fast, plenty of ram and smooth! Very smakk box, smaller than I anticipated.
But… the biggest downside is my monitos, refresh only at 50Hz – on 4K. (previously on my Gefore 1080Ti 100Hz 2 monitors @ 4K. Updated drivers and cables… can only get it at 60Hz on 1080p :/ Which is a big, big bummer. For me as I am staring at the screens for 10+ hours a day… now get fatigued much sooner :/ very noticable the difference. Would gladly sacrifice some more money and a bigger box for a dedicated card that would support 100hz refresh… Hopefully can find an enclosure and repurpose my graphic card and use it as external one
The other thing I noticed… the blootuth is not the best quality nor range… visibly deteriorated the listening on my sony headphones over 4m (and a wall)… on the other one or on a laptop I have no issues with 7+m and couple of walls.
