    Quality headphones
I’m not a sound expert, and my previous headphones were a J Labs work headset, so I’m not really comparing them to anything of quality, but I was happy with these. Significant upgrade to what I’m used to in terms of sound quality, and the overall build quality seems to be excellent. I like the coiled cable – it feels nice and has good weight to it.

perfect sound, perfect comfort..and cheap as chips for this kind of sound below 2000 :)
    There is nothing to say.

clearer in mids than 990 pro, more accurate and wider than m50x and actually 6xx doesn’t even compare!(i have all of them).

Words are usless…they are actually perfect.
I listen them through chord mojo 2

Bass amazing like a baby MDR Z1R, mids are clearer than 6xx and highs sooo soo smooth and detailed.

I dont know what Sony did, but they did i

    Hi fi use
Well made nice detailed sound from a hi end system speech is a good bench mark these score high all round for me I cannot comment on studio use. I like the cable a good length when extending closes up neat that’s what coiled cables do a coiled cable is better with a 6mm jack plug but you can screw it off for a 3mm plug use I’m very happy days with these. Adjustment is numerical on the head band they fold up into a neat supplied bag not applicable to me they’re going nowhere very comfortable finally I say excellent value for money.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our Usersgood overall but sounds a little fla
long story short: they are great for the price, but the mids are scooped

In my hands it feels to be of good quality, it feels rigid and robust

It’s pretty comfortable, though the muffs are a little small for my ears which after a while can hurt, but I just have to take them off and rub my ears and then I can wear them for another hour

the cable is a long coil which means you can get a-lot of length out of it while not tripping over the wire though I believe it might be what’s introducing the static noises that are present when no audio is playing

I really can hear a-lot of detail in the songs I’ve listened to so far (restless gypsy-WASP, break down the wall-stone fury, valhalla-crimson glory and dream dancer-crimson glory) and the bass is very clear and present, the treble is ok, it’s pretty clear but the mids are a bit weak, and the mid range is very important, the mid range hosts vocals, guitar solos etc

this review is in comparison to my previous headphones, roland rh5

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThere's a reason why these are very common in studios and broadcast settings.
The Sony MDR-7506/MDR-V6/MDR-CD900ST is what many people in the audio space call a “tried-and-true” design. A simple metal headband with a vinyl finish and plastic driver housing. Though plastic, it is a very reliable material that can handle heavy usage and light weather. The three similar, yet different designs can be identified by the text on the driver. The CD900ST and V6 has a sticker that screams “FOR DIGITAL”, while the 7506 has a sticker that says “PROFESSIONAL”. I’d take off the sticker, looks even more professional.

Beside sound, a headphone is worth buying if it is comfortable to wear for long listening sessions. The MDR-7506 is exactly that… if you have a smaller head. Though the headphone is light and the headband is able to cater for large heads, the pads do not. They are intentionally shallow to improve treble response and localisation (the ability to locate where certain sounds come from). If you are someone who has a large head, change the pads the second you get these. They will press against your outer ear, which gets pretty uncomfortable after an hour or two. I recommend a good quality leather pad such as the SOULWIT’s or the YAXI stPad 2. These pads has more cushioning and better sealing, which helps with noise isolation and bass response. Actually, even if you have small heads, get new pads. The pleather material is likely to wear off quickly, especially in humid environments. Another thing you can do for comfort is to slightly bend the headband. As the headband is metal, it can be bent to suit larger heads better. Other than these small issues, the MDR-7506 is fairly light and comfortable for long usage.

When it comes to sound, the best way to describe it would be “neutral-warm” that shows “honest” qualities. These do show flaws in recordings, the quality of the file you are listening to, and more subdued details that not many headphones within this price point cannot. The only headphone that can do this are the Koss PortaPro or the Koss KSC75 (technically an ear-speaker, but whatever). The bass is slightly warm, which more listeners tend to prefer. This helps with bass (the instrument), kick drums, timpanis, and footsteps. The mids are clear and revealing. Each and every part of the band is present without presenting honk or sounding hollow, and the treble is neutral, if slightly extended.

This headphone is definitely recommended if you want a “honest” sounding headphone that will last you decades.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersAn end game headphone for £90?
I have seen this headphone on many many you tube videos in studio and recording artists and was wondering why this headphone has become an industry standard for many recording studios and musicians over the past 30 years and now I have this in my collection I can honestly see and understand why this headphone is such an industry standard, but what is often overlooked and not mentioned is how wonderful this headphone is for leisure and listening pleasure.

The headphones are well constructed and clearly built to last, a soft padded headband with easy adjustments with a solid click for each increment. The earcups are a combination of quality plasitcs and metal for the piece with the Sony Logo the the classy ‘Professional’ wording. The cable is a coiled cable which is well made and quite thick which insills a degree of confidence in the cables quality.

The earpads are a soft pleather material which is thin and will have to be replaced after 3 or so years as this is well known to disintergrate over time. They are of the type that is a between on the ear and over the ear depending if you are a dumbo or a normally gifted ear size. They are very soft and very comfortable though and I have no issues with the comfort they afford me and can wear these for hours on end with NO discomfort.

Now onto the most important bit of my reveiw the SOUND. I have owned many headphones from Stax, Beyerdynamic, Sennheisser, AKG, HiFiman, Audio Technica mostly higher end models in the ranges and let me tell you these Sony MDR 7506 are incredible! I can’t quite get my head around how a 90 headphone can put many much more expensive models to shame, Sony engineers obviously did some kind of deal with the devil to extract this kinda quality out of this 40mm Dynamic driver all those years ago.

Yes Iam going to give you the old cliche of saying Iam hearing things in my tracks that I have honestly never heard before and everything sounds so natural and not forced in any way. The treble is verging on the bright side but never seems to go into the realm of being harsh it just sits there in perfect balance with the rest of the sound spectrum. Bass is tight and well controlled and can go DEEP into the sub bass when the recording has it. You can hear individual notes that are well seperated from the rest of the mix.

Mids are lovely and natural with womens vocals (that can pull apart even the most very expensive headphones) are rendered with a wonderful realism that is truly mesmerising Diana Krall never sounded SO good.

Soundstage being a closed back is not in the Sennheiser HD800 league obviously but it is portrayed very realistically with good imaging and separation and does not sound congested in anyway.

These headphones faithfully portray the mix as it is which is exactly what they are designed for.

These are a keeper and will remain in my collection and will be used most frequently than many others, now I understand why these headphones are such an industry standard and put many many other headphones to shame. designed over 30 years ago and never beaten for what it does.

A true game changer for me and a headphone I now fully understand.

    How they surprised me:

    – Studio-quality sound for under 100: I didn’t expect headphones this affordable to sound this good. The clarity, accuracy, and detail are on par with much more expensive options.

    – Comfortable enough for long listening sessions: I spend hours working and listening to music with these headphones, and they never get uncomfortable. The lightweight design and soft ear cups are a lifesaver.

    – Durable build that inspires confidence: These headphones feel like they can take a beating. The sturdy construction and high-quality materials give me peace of mind knowing they’ll last.

    – Versatile for all genres: Whether I’m listening to classical music, electronic beats, or rock anthems, the MDR-7506s handle it all with ease. They’re the perfect all-around headphones for any music lover.

If you’re looking for incredible sound quality without spending a fortune, the Sony MDR-7506s are a no-brainer. They’re the best bang for your buck I’ve ever found in the headphone world, and I can’t recommend them enough.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWOW, just wow!
first off, let me say, I’m not an audiophile. I appreciate good sound but I’m not anal about it. Although, that may change after listening to these babies! they are AWESOME.

I wanted some decent headphones for the sound on my low budget film, under a 100 but I wanted to beable to listen to music on them as well. After reading a ton of reviews, it was a toss up between the Sennheiser hd280 pros, the Shure srh440 or these/the v6 model (the mdrV6 are the consumer version of these, pretty much identical)

I listened to Rack City remix by Tyga, the studio version of Everything Has A Price To Pay by Paul Weller and 24 Ghosts 3 by Nine Inch Nails.

The Hd280 pros and well, they sounded… kinda.. meh. nothing really special. Not really any bass at all. they were out.
The Shure srh440’s sounded awesome but they weren’t as crisp and they looked kinda cheap. (build quality was excellent though).

The Sony MDR7506 blew me away. the sound quality was outstanding. the highs were high (maybe a little bright, but I quite like that) the mids were tight and the bass was good. it wasn’t stupid head shaking bass like you get from beats by dre, it was proper, decent audible bass.

These headphones just bring the music to life, I’ve heard so much more detail in songs. In Rack City, you can hear him take a breath inbetween bars, in the Paul Weller track you can hear him tap his fingernails on the guitar to keep time and in the NIN track, well… you can hear every little mechanical/midi sound. everything just sounds so much clearer and… Better. (and I’ve come from some decent headphones, the Sennheiser hd205 dj’s).
The ONLY bad point to note is that the earcups on these have a habit of folding up on themselves when you place them down, but other than that there isn’t anything I don’t love about these.

Sure there’s better headphones costing 700,800+ but anything under that, in my opinion, gets crapped all over by these.

These headphones are studio quality. Google them and you’ll find loads of pics of them being used in studios all over the world, everybody from Dave Grohl to Justin Beiber use these badboys. with good reason, they’re amazing.

if you want bass that shakes your eyeballs, get some beats(or better yet, save your money and get some skull candy, you obviously dont care about decent music) but if you want to HEAR your music get these. end of. you will not be dissapointed.

These have replaced a pair of old Technics cans that have seen better days and the difference in quality is incredible. Don’t buy these if you are one of those morons on the tube that likes thumping bass at head shrinking volume – these are not for you. If, however, you need a fairly flat response closed headphone that can be worn for long periods with minimal leakage then you will struggle to beat these for the price.

For studio and instrument work with digital piano, guitar and a range of soft synths these are excellent with a subtle richness to the bass, great mid range and high end. You can almost certainly do vocal work with these too with no risk of leakage contaminating the mix.

With my old cans it was hard to distinguish between mp3 and CD audio to be honest, not so now. You can hear what you’re missing with these. Build quality looks solid, not a huge fan of coiled cable but it keeps things tidy. A very good fit and comfortable on the ear (although this depends to an extent on your particular ears I guess). Packaging – just a tad OTT imo – these are only cans after all but it might make you feel justified in the price paid. Personally – you could have shipped me these in a plain old cardboard box and I would still have been delighted.

All round an excellent piece of kit fully deserving of five stars.

P.S. I’ve now owned these headphones for over 12 years and I’ve burned through a couple of sets of replacement ear pads in that time. The headband is now just starting to show signs of wear, the cable has stretched a bit and I’m detecting just a few hints of distortion if I push them too far (but they still sound pretty good).

I have used these daily: for listening to, recording, mastering and mixing music. I use them with my Yamaha classical guitar (which has a headphone out socket) and for my Roland keyboard – with numerous virtual pianos and instruments.

So these really have been put through their paces over the years and they remain my only headphones. As I reluctantly start to think about replacing them, I am struggling to think of a better headphone for my requirement at this price point.

My only real gripe is the cable – if I could switch between curly and straight, that would be the icing on the cake.

Rest assured, if you buy these and look after them, they will last you a good long while.
