Amazing product for the price
For 65, this wifi security is incredible value. It was extremely simple to install and configure….. much easier than others I’ve done. TP-Link have even thought of providing a sticker template to help you drill holes in the right place for the bracket. The image quality is excellent and the app has loads of configuration options. No need for a subscription service as you can store data on an SD card and view through the app or Alexa/Google Nest device. However, the cloud subscription is actually only 2.50/month so good value. We’ve set up our Google Nest so “Hey Google, show the camera” displays the camera feed on our Home Hub. I cannot fault this product.
Just the job.
This seems a well constructed camera and the App seems to work well. The AI function is OK – it sometimes identifies the wrong things but that’s not a great issue to me. I have turned down notifications as I was being informed of trivial issues. I prefer not to use the night lamp which can come on to record at night in colour – I’m happy with the black and white images. This was purchased to replace another manufacturers device which was useless! It’s mounted at height so I cannot comment on the two way communication feature. I would have awarded 5 stars but the tracking is a bit erratic.
Overall recommended.
For the price, the Tapo Pan Tilt Camera is an incredible deal! It was quite easy to set up and I was able to get it up and running quickly. It is a great option for home security because it has several capabilities, such as customisable settings, motion detection, and pan and tilt control.
One thing to keep in mind is that, depending on where you choose to put it, you might need an extension wire. Still, given everything else this camera offers, that’s a minor inconvenience. No rivals even come close to offering as many features for the price. It’s ideal for monitoring things, and you can truly customise it to meet your own needs because to the amount of customisation options.
Extremely advisable
Have been using Tapo cameras for a while, have even bought them as presents for family! So I thought I would upgrade to this model, as it does everything I need in home security ( tracking, smart mode with QHD and alarms)
Daughter installed the camera in about 30mins with absolutely no problems. ( most of the time was positioning it)
So, initially I had a few software issues with this camera, but on contacting the support forum, they promptly passed my problem onto the TP-Link Technical Support team. I cannot speak highly enough of these experts, they talked me through everything, and indeed, made me feel very confident the issue would be sorted quickly with me having to do the bare minimum.
The camera is well worth the money and as every other Tapo cam very easy to use. Connects easily to wireless Wi-Fi and set up is also very easy. Night vision is great, but sensitivity does need reduced when it rains.
All in all I have to give this 5 , even with the initial issue. Ryan Long and the TP-Link Technical Support team are such a dedicated group, I never once regretted buying this model.
IMO Best home security around in this price range, and the most dedicated support team. Another brilliant product by Tapo.
Would have given 5 stars for its picture quality, ease of setup, easy to use app, amazing colour night vision & motion tracking all brilliant.
HOWEVER
Its only downfall is that even on its lowest sensitivity setting, the motion detection alerts go crazy when it rains, which is even more especially annoying during the night. I’m hoping that a firmware update in the very near future will rectify this issue. But otherwise, a really great product.
I’m impressed!
I’ve bought several PTZ cams – which were all poor qualityt. Tapo is part of TPLink – which has a decent reputation – so I hoped this would be OK? And it is! It’s great!
The picture quality is good, particularly in low light conditions. The app / UI is OK. Not amazing, but better than most – and neither contains adverts, nor requires you to sign up for spam email.
I had a bit of trouble getting it connected to my WiFi. I have a Tenda Mesh Network and had to use their ‘smart device’ option to connect. Once the first camera was connected, the second one was easy.
It claims IP68 Waterproofing – and that looks possible based on the construction. It’s mounted in a location subject to driving rain and strong winds so it will get a good test. I’ll report back if it fails prematurely.
The one feature this has, which seems to be missing from most is to be able to zoom in on a video feed (by pinching). This works well. Combined with the high resolution, this is a very useful feature.
I’ve tried the object recognition and some of the other ‘smart’ features. They work well – but are of little value to me & my application.
Easy to set up but have your phone right next to the camera when you turn it on as it has to connect to the phone first. You’ll also need your Wi-Fi password handy.
The picture quality is very good and it can identify people, pets, vehicles and any movement. If you don’t want pets to be recorded you can turn them off, ditto people and vehicles or movement. Just have person on if that’s all you want. Sound recording can be recorded or turned off. There’s also line crossing detection but I haven’t tried that, no lines.
You can set an active timed schedule and have it recording all the time or only when it detects something. The default is to only record when something is detected 24/7
You can change the speed of playback and zoom in and out of live or recorded view by pinching the screen.
The camera can be set to sound an alarm but I haven’t tested that yet.
You can also set up privacy zones. This places a black rectangular area on the screen which you can resize and locate. I’ve had to place one over the property entrance onto the road so it doesn’t record every passing vehicle.
The phone notification sound can be changed in the App settings on your phone but I’m not sure that’s available on all phones.
I would like it more if different notification sounds could be set up for different cameras but I’m not sure that’s possible. If you have Alexa and it’s installed on your phone you can get the Amazon Alexas with a video screen to display a picture from a camera or all cameras. The only problem is the screen locks after about 10 minutes. I believe this is something to do with not using high volumes of data for people who have a limited data allowance. However I’d like to be able to turn this feature off so monitoring would be possible all the time, most of us have unlimited data these days.
I built a bracket with a cover over the top to help protect this camera from the elements but I have another that’s exposed and so far no problems with water ingress.
I highly recommend these cameras.
Great cctv ip camera with pan and tilt with object tracking.
Image quality is good and as expected.
Installation is easy and it just works.
Plenty of useful settings available.
Very easy to add to your Tapo app, especially if you already have the app.
Just connect the included power supply and WiFi, and it is up and working in minutes.
I have purchased more tapo cctv ip cameras of different types and they are all very easy to install and work perfectly.
I have now replaced 2 hard wired dvr cctv systems (home and business) with tapo cctv cameras.
Very happy with the cameras, ease of installation, image quality and the Tapo app.
The only extra needed if you want to record and playback later, is a micro sd memory card.
There is no need to subscribe or pay for anything to remotely view or playback recorded footage. However they do offer a cloud based service at a reasonable price if you want this option, but it is not required.
As said I am am very happy and would definitely recommend tapo cctv cameras from my experience.
This is a genuine review for the camera purchased by me.
Good quality image and sound, good quality build, impressive features that actually work and very easy setup. The AI and auto tracking is brilliant and worth a mention. Whats not to like? Not much really! The only slightly annoying feature is the ethernet socket which is a bit bulky and also would like a custom option for patrol mode so I can set a lower time of 2 minutes for each zone.
For this price it is absolutly brilliant.
