Fantastic doorbell! Just had a look at how good the night vision is on the camera and it’s so clear, the photo I included was taken at 11pm with the light on and one with the light off.
No subscription to pay to view recordings, which is great considering the more expensive brand such as Ring have a subscription to view recordings. I’ve read that the battery life is more along the lines of up to a month on previous reviews when the description states up to 6 months, but I’m not bothered about that.
Definitely recommend to those looking for a decent camera doorbell without the extra monthly costs.
5 out of 5. A fantastic product. I had purchased another one from another vendor (the most sold one) but it didn’t work well. It kept disconnecting. This one, on the other hand, is perfect. The battery lasts over a month, it is always online, if you add an SD card it even saves videos. I adore it.
And the 2k videos are stunning. Top quality, day and night.
This doorbell is just perfect. I’ll buy another one for my countryside cottage.
Great value doorbell.
Great doorbell and very good price from Amazon UK. Video is high quality and seems to have good battery life. I had to purchase a cheap UK to AU power adapter for the door chime but that’s no problem.
The major faults starting from worst imo are
1. the claimed battery life is total BS. No one is getting that, according to forums 3 months is the max if using it with frugal settings. I estimate 6 weeks once fully bedded down.
2. The 2k Resolution is technically true but the compression means it probably closer to 0.5k, when you zoom in to faces its resolving power is faeces.
3. Poor automation options. All you get is switching privacy mode on our off. You can’t have different auto responses depending on time of day for example. (You do get to make your own recordings which many others don’t offer at any price)
4. While the chime is excellent (and cute) I have had the chime go but the phone call didn’t come through. Not a delay it just didn’t come through at all. Possibly thats my phone’s fault, TBF, but it should come in late if that’s the case.
5. It’s kinda big compared to many others – overhangs my door post by a touch
Loads of good things to say especially the excellent value coming with a chime and angled wedge which could add an extra 30 – 50 with other brands, it’s from a respected brand (tp link), works well with Google home/nest, and on balance I wouldn’t choose another. I did do extensive research beforehand but it seems most YouTubers get their gear for free I guess and feel positive bias. otherwise they would mention the flaws I’ve given here.
It works really well and is easy to install with no obligation to sign up for cloud storage and a regular monthly subscription. I use a small memory card that last ages and can be reformatted. The battery charge lasts for several months and recharges quickly when needed. The link to the smart phone is simple to set up and I could see my recordings and live feed even on holiday several thousand miles away. It’s easy to use too. I would definitely recommend for the price.
Upgraded from the blink video doorbell
Been very easy and straight forward
Already had the Tapo App for other equipment so just added the TD21
Much better quality both of video, calls, night vision images and overall feel
Onboard SD card is great for storage and or add the Tapo Hub or Cloud for extra levels of security… I like the options
Fantastic being able to tailor the doorbell sounds
Just a major upgrade to the TD21
The first week I was constantly changing the setup and configuration so the battery drained heavily… Over 1% per day
I then simply plugged in a power bank & charged to 100%. Extremely easy & whilst I was contemplating adding a solar panel to keep the battery topped up, I don’t get enough sunlight – so no need to remove the unit just charge via a power bank.
20mins fully charged and 4 days later the app is still showing 100% I have the “Wake Up” sensitivity set to the highest level 10 which makes a difference on battery life
Only problem I have is I have been unable to get the Automated response to work. Minor issues
For the money I think this is incredible value. The Tapo App is easy and straight forward.
I especially like the fact I can select the type of monitor I’ve person, vehicle, pet etc.
From the video you will see a stray cat appears regularly on the camera…
This door bell with camera, on recieving and unwrapping this camera door bell, it felt good quality.
There are two ways you can install on your door, drill or stick to your door frame or anywhere around your front door. We chose to stick it and not drill, it is very good and secure.
The instructions explain where to position your bell to ensure it works effectively. It has technology that enables you the user only to remove to recharge the battery.
The app again is easy to set up and navigate, I am of an age that apps and technology are not my go to; however this was so easy and easy to view. The quality of view is exceptional so clear and shows all of the person at your door.
You can also speak to them after they ring the door bell which then ensures they know what to do, wait for you or leave a parcel at the door or somewhere more specific to you.
I would highly recommend this camera door bell its quality with an affordable price tag.
So I have had a Ring doorbell for about 6 years. I have no problem with it but resent having to pay a separate subscription to keep recordings. They are expensive enough without having to pay too record footage.
So I have loads of Tapo devices in the home from bulbs, cameras and plugs. All work in one app and all work really well. If you have Alexa you don’t have to do anything in the app. It just shows up ready once set up in Tapo app.
So for the doorbell. It’s a weighty thing and feels solid. Video quality is excellent, easily on par with the Ring. The light ring has enough illumination to light up whoever is at the door in full colour and high definition at night. I like the fact when someone rings the doorbell, your phone announces it like a phone call (along with any smart speaker). You just answer like a facetime call (they can’t see you). Battery life has been really good considering mine is close to the path so gets plenty of foot traffic going by. I have set mine to only activate on people rather than everything, otherwise it would never stop recording. And there is the great thing about it. Stick a memory card in and all the recordings are there for you to view in the Tapo app. You can download them to your phone if you need to right from the app. If you want the added security of cloud backup, Tapo Care have you covered with different plans. I have a couple of Tapo security cameras I pay for backup on. But I’m getting two cameras backed up for the price I was Paying for one Ring camera. Oh and you get a wireless doorbell chime you can stick in any plug in the house. You pay extra for that with Ring. When I got it, it was on offer and only cost 35. Worth every penny.
