Not a true PTZ camera, but a decent alternative with AI + Pan & Til
We own a whole range of different eufy cameras – including a few S120’s and S220’s, which have a built-in solar panel in the casing. The problem we’ve found is that the size of the solar panels on those cameras just aren’t big enough to power the camera’s long term – especially during winter months.
Having a larger seperate 3W solar panel with this C37 camera, certainly makes it far more independant – too early to tell if completely self-reliant in cloudy months, but a great improvement on the other ‘all-in-one’ camera models.
Should the camera battery get depleted, you can recharge via USB-C, but of course this will likely result in the inconvenience of having to bring it down from wherever it’s been installed.
One thing that may not be completely clear, you DON’T need to own or purchase a eufy Homebase to use this C37 camera. Providing you install a micro SD card (not included), you can simply download the mobile eufy app and access the recordings directly from the SD card (via wi-fi). You can also get alerts, control the camera angles or simply access live view etc. via the app.
However, one of the main advantages of connecting this (or other eufy cameras) to a Homebase 3 unit, is that the Homebase unit can help bridge that distance between your router wifi signal and the camera location. The disadvantage with this solution, is that you end up with a very noisy unit due to the fan in the Homebase 3… but that’s another story.
Whichever way you connect this.. the good news is that either option is subscription free.
From a functional point of view, the C37 has good pan and tilt viewing angles – but it has no optical zoom, therefore not really a PTZ camera. It can automatically track with AI and it has good night vision clarity. We find 2K resolution on eufy cameras to be totally exceptable.
Reliable and easy to set up
This was fairly straightforward to install and connect, and the app setup did not take long. Once running, the video quality is clear both during the day and at night.
The motion detection works well and sends alerts quickly. It is useful for keeping an eye on things without needing to constantly check.
The build feels solid and suitable for outdoor use, though not overly heavy duty.
Battery life seems reasonable so far, depending on how often it is triggered.
For the price, it offers good value for money compared to some higher priced alternatives.
Overall, a reliable and easy to use security camera.
eufy Security eufyCam C37,2K Solar cam
I’ve got many eufy cams dotted around the house so was excited to try this one to cover an annoying blindspot on the side of my house. Setup like with all eufycams was quick and easy, and linked to my home hub via the app via the code scan. The app functions are intuitive, allowing me set up detection zones and privacy areas, which helps cut down on false alerts. The 2K colour night vision is excellent to see and works really well, even in total darkness, and the spotlight picks up details like faces and license plates clearly. So nice to not have to see black and white night footage any longer.
The solar panels are a great addition. The mounting bracket was a bit limited, as I couldn’t attach the panels on top. The retaining clip also doesn’t lock properly, it slides off with minimal pressure, which is a bit concerning as it’s in a spot where someone might try to tamper with it.
Other than that, the camera performs well. The AI tracking is smooth, and even though it’s at the edge of my WiFi, the app responds quickly. I’ve had no issues with the footage quality or the local storage setup. It’s a solid camera for the price. The mounting hardware could use a bit of improvement, but I’d only knock off half a star for those negatives.
Another Fantastic Eufy Cam
This power assisted Cam from Eufy arrives boxed with UK socket and instructions plus mounting bracket and even a USB-C solar panel too for keeping the cam’s rechargeable battery online.
Setting up the cam is a breeze and especially if you already have the Eufy Homebase installed as a part of your setup otherwise there is an option for storing the images in the cloud or SD-Card.
The cam itself is powered via an internal rechargeable 6700mAh battery that already comes with 40% power although to full recharge it back up can take several hours.
Also the mounting bracket can be used inside the home or outside as the cam is IP65 waterproof as well although I do question whether the cam is fully waterproof and so would advise placing it under the house soffit for protection or similar location.
The Eufy app is faultless as always to use everything you need for setting up the cam or adding it to your current setup. You can also simply scan the QRcode at the base of the cam which starts the install process through the EUFY software and within a few minutes it is setup and ready to use.
Once installed the cam will appear in your device list and can then be used for motion activation or directing viewing through the camera.
The camera image is very clear and supports IR for night time viewing plus it supports PTZ 360 degree viewing in 2K.
There is 2 way audio and facial recognition within the software which works really well at picking out a familiar face and identifying them immediately.
The cam is ideal for detecting any movement from cars, pets or humans or alternatively setting it to detect any movement at all as well which is ideal if you keeping a pet inside the house or a child in a separate room and you wanted to be alerted immediately via your iPhone or Android.
Construction of the cam is made very well in white plastic and has a bar scan code on the base should you wish to import it by that method, either way Eufy make it simple and easy for any user in a robust solution.
The outstanding part of the cam though is the current price which is outstanding for a weather proof PTZ cam with this many features that works so well.
Overall I have used Eufy home security for many years and absolutely love using it every day. This is a fabulous and easy to use cam for your Eufy environment running on Wifi 2.4 and 5GHz and works perfectly.
