Heavy duty steering lock.
Picked up the ekszdgu steering wheel lock for that bit of extra security to my car and I’m really pleased with it. The lock looks and feels solid. The metal construction gives it a strong durable feel which gives me peace of mind knowing my vehicle has that extra protection. Once installed, it prevents the steering wheel from turning properly, making it hard to drive away. Installing it is really simple. You wrap it around your steering wheel, then click the end into your seat belt lock. The unlocking is quick release. This also comes with spare keys which is always useful in case one gets lost or misplaced. The thing I also like about this lock is that it’s visible through the windscreen due to its bright yellow colour and that alone can discourage opportunistic to break into the car.
A Metal SeatBelt is far more SECURE
Excellent item, so much better than purchasing one that has a PLASTIC SEAT BELT LOCK as they are flimsy and not what I would be a secure Steering Wheel Lock!
As they say you can get a better offer that is more secure than onethat is flimsy!
Nice bright yellow locking device, goes around steering wheel and into seatbelt, nice and strong
I bought this steering wheel lock because car theft has become more of a concern, with thieves increasingly able to access vehicles without keys or forced entry.
Having something visible that signals extra effort required felt like a sensible precaution.
The lock is made from ABS plastic and steel cable construction. It fits around most standard steering wheels without any fiddly adjustment and at 72cm long it covers the wheel adequately. It is light enough that using it daily does not feel like a burden, and when not in use it fits in the glove compartment without taking up much space. The surface is smooth and has not marked my steering wheel during regular use.
Fitting it takes a few seconds. You loop the cable around the wheel and lock it in place. Two keys are included, which is a practical detail since losing the only key to something like this would be a real problem.
Being straightforward about its limitations, this is not going to stop a determined thief with the right tools. The protective sheath over the cable can be moved aside, which means the cable itself is accessible to bolt cutters or a cordless saw. That is a limitation shared by most locks at this price point, and it is worth being aware of before buying.
What it does do is act as a visible deterrent. A thief would need to break a window, deal with the alarm and then cut through the cable while hoping no one nearby notices. That combination of noise and delay is often enough to make a car a less appealing target than one with no visible security at all.
For the price it is a reasonable and practical addition to your vehicle security rather than a complete solution on its own. As its bright yellow and stands out a mile off, will hopefully deter thieves as it will be a hassle to remove compared to cars without one fitted.
All you do to remove it is push the hey into the top and it releases the seatbelt lock, no buttons to press etc, very easy to use as you not pressed against the lock if it was on the side.
Good deterrent for a sensible price
I got this steering wheel lock for my wife’s small car to add some security to it when she leaves the car at our local park & ride and any other car park when she uses. I was not confident that it would be suitable because every safety lead we have bought to go in the seat belt socket to hold our dog’s bed securely hasn’t fitted the front seat belts. They all fit the rear seat belts but the front ones in her Hyundai are different. They appear to be non-standard. I was pleased to find that this steering wheel lock DOES fit the front seat belt sockets in her car!
Fitting the lock is simple – just pass it through the steering wheel and click it into the seat belt socket. I found opening it slightly more tricky until I eased the front seat forward slightly to give me better access to put one of the three supplied keys in and turn it to allow the release button to be depressed. I made my wife practice a few times so that she won’t be calling me from a car park saying she cant unlock it!
For the price, I thing this lock is a sensible and worthwhile purchase. I don’t think it would protect the car against a determined thief with appropriate cutting equipment but it should frustrate a casual thief. Even the fluorescent yellow covering will likely cause such a thief to pick a different car to steal!
A visible and practical deterre
I live in a very low crime-rate area, but even so, we still get the occasional car stolen so anything that could help prevent the loss of my vehicle has got to be worth a try.
This steering wheel lock is highly visible, due to the fluorescent yellow sleeve, so it’s an immediate deterrent before anyone even tries to access the vehicle (though it’s available in red and black as well, if you want something a little less obvious).
It’s dual protection due to the fact that it prevents the steering wheel from turning and also prevents the seatbelt from being used.
It’s very easy to fit. Simply thread it through the steering wheel then pass the seatbelt lock through the cable loop, and press the seatbelt lock onto the seatbelt socket until it clicks. (If there’s too much slack, because of the seat position, and the wheel still turns a little then simply adjust the seat backwards until the cable is taut).
It’s universal and should fit any car or van (I think a vehicle would have to be pretty unusual for this *not* to fit), as it extends up to 17.3″.
To sum up; it’s highly visible, very strong, easy to attach, detach and store and excellent value for money (especially considering how much your car would cost to replace!). I definitely recommend.
