Fantastic dual security cam
I’m fully imbedded in the Tapo ecosystem using their doorbell cameras, security cameras and lights and this camera fully lives up to my expectation. The Tapo C645D stands out as one of the best I’ve installed. The duallens setup is the real star here and something I haven’t had before. The fixed 2K ultrawide lens gives excellent coverage, while the pan/tilt telephoto lens locks onto detail with impressive clarity. Being able to monitor two areas at once feels like having two cameras in one.
Setup was quick and painless, and the app makes everything straightforward. Motion tracking is smooth and reliable, and the smart detection for people, vehicles and pets works without needing a subscription, which is a huge plus. The onetap smart focus is surprisingly useful too, just tap the wide view and the zoom lens instantly centres on that spot.
Night performance is strong, with clear colour footage that doesn’t wash out detail. The solar panel is a great addition and even with typical UK weather, it keeps the battery topped up enough that I’m not worrying about charging.
One of the main reasons I like Tapo is that there is no requirement to pay for a subscription service. Just pop a micro SD card in and away you go.
Build quality feels solid, the IP65 rating gives confidence outdoors, and integration with Alexa/Google Home works exactly as expected.
Overall, this is a feature packed, dependable camera that delivers excellent coverage, sharp video and hassle free power. For the price, it’s outstanding value and a big step up from many single lens alternatives.
Impressive All-in-One Security Camera
I’ve been using this solar-powered security camera for a few weeks now, and I’m genuinely impressed with how well it performs. Setup was straightforward, with clear instructions and a simple app connection that had everything up and running in no time. Installation was just as easy, and I liked how securely the camera mounts while still being easy to remove if needed.
The video quality is excellent, with sharp and detailed footage during the day and solid performance at night. The dual-lens setup provides great coverage, and the motion tracking feature works reliably, following movement smoothly across the area. It’s reassuring to be able to check the live feed quickly, especially when alerts come through.
Battery life has been very good, particularly when the solar panel gets decent sunlight, although positioning does make a difference. Even so, it helps reduce the need for frequent charging. I also appreciate the flexibility of using local storage with an SD card or opting for cloud storage at a low cost.
Overall, this camera feels well-built, feature-rich and dependable. It offers great coverage and ease of use, making it a strong choice for anyone looking to improve home security.
Solar panel needs full sun, not just daylight, but still slows down battery drainage
Easy to set up. Mounting easy.
I’m north facing so solar panel isnt as effective as I’d like.
Fantastic reaction time, fantastic colour video. No need for expensive cloud storage at all. 128g sd card plenty big enough, sold separately.
Support is brilliant, how quickly it will be in updates-time will tell.
The camera excels during daylight hours, while nighttime recordings are acceptable.
Software enhancements are necessary.
I’ve conveyed this to support.
My sole reservation pertains not to the device itself, but to the insufficient sunlight and the building’s architectural design, which restricts solar exposure.
I proposed the concept of a Tapo USB-C Y-splitter featuring one male connector (for the camera) and two female ends (one for daytime charging via solar, and the second for a power bank or charger).
This configuration would guarantee an uninterrupted power supply.
A Tapo splitter is crucial because, apparently, a controller is required to prevent power from flowing back into the solar panel and damaging its cells.
Essentially, it would facilitate one-way power transmission only.
Should you find this potentially beneficial for your setup, please reach out to support.
Currently, I’ve been informed that no one else has made such a request.
If a greater number of individuals express interest, they might proceed with its design and production.
This apparatus would operate continuously (1, 5, 10, 20-second photo intervals).
Tracking is nice, with hub H500 opens basic face ai and back up.
All will be improved with every update.
Additionaly I requested couple improvements ( different settings for day and night ,etc).
Great system.
Had a few security cameras in the past, must say this is the best I have ever had. Good value for money great spec, picture quality superb day or night, tracking camera works brilliantly. It has been in use now for over a month and everyday the battery is at 100% due to the solar panel even though it’s not really sunny out. I am so impressed that I purchased another over two weeks ago. Because of the coverage these give,it has replaced 4 aging ring cameras and gives the same coverage. Easy set up and app. I am paying
for cloud storage which is also cheap but you can put SD cards in if you don’t want to pay
Approx 3 a month. All in all the best system I have ever used.
