I do not have an external electrical box to wire into, it went straight through the wall which was brick then thermolite, so the cable was a little shorter than I would have hoped for, but for most installations especially if you’re going into a box then you’ll be fine. At 20w it’s not the highest you can get, but I wanted to balance power use vs light required, I don’t need to light up a stadium and I was pleasantly surprised to find it was bright and spread of a much larger area than I thought it was, so 20w is for me at least a good choice. They make a 50w but I think for most installations that might be an overkill. The only thing I might criticise is setting up the timing and range of the sensor was very hit and miss and took me a few days to get it right.
Ideal light for a small to medium size area.
I purchased this for front path coverage to light up the area towards our front door – around 8m x 8m. It’s easily bright enough for this. Electrical installation was particularly easy, simply connecting LIVE/NEUTRAL/EARTH of the1m cable from the light to a supply cable, using suitable connectors. In my opinion this connection type is far easier than all previous lights that had small connector blocks inside the fitting, which always required awkward and precise wiring work!
The light settings worked fine to get the desired timings and sensitivity. The light has only been up for a few months so I can’t comment on long term reliability. But so far at least, it’s been perfect for the job and has my 5* recommendation.
Great value motion sensing floodligh
I ordered the ZHONGFA LED Floodlights Outdoor Security Motion Sensor Pir Mains Powered Light as a floodlight for my back garden.
It’s always useful to have a security light to deter would-be intruders and to draw attention to them if they happen to decide to climb into the garden uninvited.
It’s also nice to catch sight of foxes and other wildlife while they pay a fleeting visit through the garden.
The floodlight was easy to install, requiring only two holes to be drilled into the wall to put the rawlplugs. I did this with my cordless drill with hammer action and it coped well drilling 2 x 6mm holes into the brickwork when using a masonry bit.
I was replacing a previous filament light so the 230v wiring was already in place. It was just a matter of connecting the wires to the connector in the waterproof gland. The wires are pre-tinned so didn’t need ferrules to stop them fraying.
I set the Sensitivity and Timer controls to about halfway and the Lux control fully counter clockwise, so the light only comes on when it is dark.
I aimed the sensor device to the middle of the garden and waited for darkness. As soon as I left my back door into the garden, the light came on.
At 20 watts it was surprisingly bright, certainly bright enough to remove the cover of darkness from any intruder, but hopefully not intrusive for my neighbours.
I went to the end of the garden, about 15 metres away and waited, stock still, for five or six minutes for the light to go off. I took a couple of paces towards the house and the light came on, lighting me up in the empty garden and making me easily visible.
This light, at 20 watts, is going to be noticeably cheaper to run than the 300 watt one previously there with not a lot of difference in the usable light output.
For the current price of 12.05 it represents very good value for money.
