I bought this patio door security lock mainly to add an extra layer of security to our French doors that lead out into the garden. We’ve got a conservatory on the back and while the existing locks are fine, I just wanted something that would act as a visual and practical deterrent for a bit of added peace of mind, especially when we’re away.
The lock itself is compact and easy enough to get installed. It doesn’t require any complicated tools, and the buttons are straightforward — one to lock and one to unlock. The mechanism feels a bit light, but it clicks into place firmly and doesn’t wiggle once it’s engaged. I like that it doesn’t rely on batteries or alarms; it’s just a simple mechanical barrier that’s easy to operate.
The design isn’t overly bulky, so it doesn’t get in the way when opening or closing the doors. It blends in fairly well and doesn’t look too industrial, which I appreciate since it’s going on doors inside the house. That said, it’s not the strongest lock out there. It feels more like a deterrent than a serious barrier, so I wouldn’t count on it to stop someone determined. It’s more about delaying or discouraging rather than full-on preventing access.
For what it is, it’s a handy little addition. Ideal if you want a bit of extra reassurance without overhauling your entire door security setup. If you’ve already got decent locks in place, this works well as a secondary measure. Just don’t expect it to stand up to force — it’s best used as part of a layered approach to home security.
