One of the biggest advantages of these T-bar steering wheel locks is just how quick and convenient they are to use. They’re compact enough to slip under a seat when not in use, yet highly visible once fitted, making them a good visual deterrent for opportunistic thieves. Realistically, at around 20, you shouldn’t expect bank-vault levels of security. Like most steering wheel locks in this price range, their primary purpose is to make your vehicle a less attractive target rather than being completely undefeatable. The bright yellow finish and the way the lock sits prominently across the top of the steering wheel make it very obvious from outside the vehicle, which is exactly what you want from a deterrent.
The lock comes with two keys, and both operated the mechanism without any issues. I did find this particular lock a little graunchy when locking compared to another T-bar lock I’ve owned. It isn’t as smooth to operate, although I suspect it will loosen up slightly with regular use. It still locks securely, so it’s more of a minor niggle than a real problem. This one also seems to be a little finicky and doesn’t always close fully and leaves a slight gap which is a little annoying at times.
Even so, what I particularly like about this style of lock is that it isn’t especially fussy about steering wheel design. I’ve owned several BMWs with slightly raised steering wheel hubs, and some crossbar-style locks simply don’t fit properly. This T-bar design is much more accommodating, fitting my steering wheel without any issues. Overall, it’s an easy-to-use, compact steering wheel lock that offers a worthwhile visual deterrent. It may not be the smoothest locking mechanism I’ve used, but it’s quick to fit, stores neatly under a seat, and should encourage most opportunist thieves to move on to an easier target.
