Fabulous fire which arrived promptly and really brightens up the room with its realistic flame effect. I am very impressed both with the looks and performance of this fire and have no hesitation in recommending it.
I love the look of this fire, it certainly makes an attractive wall. The only thing I would change is the highly reflective glass which means the room is reflected in the fireplace and detracts from the overall effect of the flames which are extremely realistic.

I built my stone fireplace 45 years ago and was unaware of the standard opening i.e. height. Consequently when I stopped using coal I couldn’t get an inset electric fire to fit the opening. I finally took a chance and bought this freestanding fire from Amazon.I just wish I had done it years ago. It really is the business.It heats the room very quickly if the central heating has just switched on and is a focal point. Top class
One thing I must mention. My wife thinks the brass effect is too “brassy”. Although I find it fine. Somehow I think my next chore is to find a way to dull the effect.
I can no longer have an open fire in my cottage and this is just perfect to create a cozy feel. I have central heating so I have only tested the heat output, I use it more for the fire effect. Definitely worth the money I would say.
Ordered this fire after reading the reviews and I’d also seen the exact same fire in my local fireplace shop for 100 more, so I decided to order of Amazon and I was not disappointed the fire came quicker than expected and is just perfect, just one thing I read in the previous reviews was to wash the coals first so I did and this does need doing as they are dusty and just like real coal marks your hand. When our old gas fire was removed we had a gaping hole – this electric fire fits nicely covering the hole and is ready for action if we need it later in the year too, recommended (we have barely used it to just check it works as it’s now warm weather, so mainly marked for appreance and ease of fitting, here).
A lovely fire with great heat output and a realistic flame effect. Looks and feels to be of high quality. Sizing exactly as listed, and delivered in quality packaging that ensured the fire arrived in pristine condition. Only caveats are the remote and the associated red LED on the fire. The remote needs to be directed right at the LED on the fire to make it trigger the fire as intended. The LED is permanently lit as a red blur approx 5cm in diameter when the fire is turned off and this provides an unrealistic effect. I’d like to be able to disable this feature while still allowing the remote to work, however I have not found this possible so far. Apart from this minor issue this is another high quality electric fire from Dimplex that I would certainly recommend.
Was disappointed that it’s plastic as the fire I replaced with this one was cast iron. However, it looks great and we use it for the light mostly. It’s noisy when you have the heat on so if I had paid full price for this I’d have sent it back. We got this from the warehouse when they had an extra 20% off so it was a bargain.
When we first switched it on (just the flame effect) there was a terrible rattle. We looked inside and saw that the spindle which turns to make the flame effect hadn’t been assembled properly so as it was trying to rotate it was hitting everything in the way. We popped the end into the hole where it was obviously supposed to go and it’s as silent as a mouse.
I love almost everything about this product, it looks great and it warms my room very quickly. That was even a minimum setting. It is handy having the remote I just wish I could have just a little more control and switch light on without the heat et cetera with remote
We would say that we are very happy with this Dimplex Heater although we very rareley use the Heater Settings as we use the Gas Central Heating System for the general house heating requirements.
We have installed the Cheriton Freestanding Optiflame Electric Fire into the Lounge Fireplace and use the flame effect which is very good and provides a a very friendly warm looking atmosphere
This product arrived promptly, and looks good in our fireplace, have not used the heaters very much, just use the glow of the fire which makes you feel warm and cosy, would definitely recommend
I would also add the delivery service by Hermes was excellent, the item was ordered on the 4th of Feb and delivered on the 6th of Feb two days ahead of the estimated delivery date.

good fire the only problem is the use of real coal which attracts small children to play with it and they then require their hands etc cleaned and the fire does not so good without the coal
I do not like the real coal, its very dirty. it sometimes falls off so be careful.
The dog keeps taking a lump of to eat!
As said in the info this fire is for occasional use, so do not buy it if you want to use it all the time.
It has proved invaluable and warms the whole of my quite large sitting room (28′ x 12′) more than adequately. Four stars because the reflective panel behind the flame effect looks naff ( it also reflects my hearthrug and furniture) and just detracts from the otherwise very realistic effect. I guess the panel is what assists the flame effect, and a matt black background wouldn’t work. They need to get the boffins on solving it. Otherwise good product for the price.

I love my fire. It took me a while to choose an electric fire suitable for my living room but when I found thus one my search was over. It didn’t disappoint. It’s perfect for my living. I had to do was take it out of the box and place it on the heart; add the coals and then plug the cable into the socket and switch it on. Amazing flame effects and a lot of warm from the two settings. I am very happy. Thank you
I didn’t know what to expect but the fire looks really good. The flames are very realistic. It’s also really handing to be able to give the living room a blast of heat without having to put on the whole central heating system.
Wonderful service ordered Wednesday night delivered Friday morning.The fire was very well packed in good sturdy box.Placed straight into our fire surround and it’s looks very smart.A lot of comments have been made about the noise the flame effect makes but this one is silent and much quieter than our old one. The flame effect comes with led lighting and also has a thermostat and remote control.The finish is perfect with no scratches or marks. A great fire at a superb price

Easy installation, unpack, place in position, switch on! A convincing flame effect and silky replaceable bulbs. Size covers a standard fire opening.
The remote is simple but makes life very easy for mum to switch the heater on and off. It got her through the recent ‘Beast from the East’ cold weather spell when the condensate pipe from the combi boiler froze and knocked out the central heating for a day.
I honestly can’t fault it for looks and functionality. Time will tell how long it lasts but I’ll be happy if we get a couple of years out of it given how much use mum gets out of it.

Quality fire, purchased for an elderly relative living in a flat and gives off a good amount of heat even on a 1 bar setting.
Nice touch with the coal surround supplement.
The fire also has a remote control which is great for the elderly as they can switch on from their armchair etc.

I am a tough customer with high expectations for all items I purchase. This item is seriously fantastic. I will admit I am a big fan of Dimplex products. The brand has always been outstanding. Do note I use this in a room much larger than it is rated for (double the recommended size room) and it is excellent, aesthetically and for supplementary heat.
Lovely coal and flame effect. No bars but convection so very safe for kids and elderly. Heats room quickly but a bit noisy because it is so powerful. The remote control for on off is great for couch potatoes like me!

Not too intrusive, especially when the TV is on. As you’d expect you can hear the fan when using the heat settings but the flame and coal effect is good and I am looking forward to using it on colder nights to add a sense of warmth and at Christmas when the hearth is decorated.

The Flame effect is very good and with real coal.
The negative side is the Brass effect grate looks plastic and it is. The other problem is the noise levels when running the Fan.

Looks good, very quiet no noise using just flame effect. Black edge and brass fret are plastic doesn’t matter once in situ good looking fire. Received well packaged with very quick delivery. Bought for our dad’s house to replace old gas fire, but we will be purchasing one too to replace noisy electric fire.
i. Hermes delivery is v. poor. Delivery man claimed parcel was placed in an outhouse. But it was left outside near a conservatory in the rain. I was home and the delivery man did not knock on the door or ring the bell. Hermes was not very interested and suggested I take this up with Amazon. I have done so.
ii. Although assembly is fairly easy, the lack of clear instructions does not help at all. Also, how does one replace LED bulbs without buying an expensive maintenance contract in which you pay more to clear the cost upfront immediately rather than by direct debit over a period of months?
Assuming the product will last four years, would it be cheaper to get a new one every three years?
Having said all of that, the fire looks good, seems to work well, and Dimplex have a good name and I hope the product lives up to it.
It’s just what I wanted. It fits flat to the fireplace and you simply plug it in and turn it on.
It looks very realistic with just the flames flickering. Very cosy.
There are 2 heat settings. The heat comes out from the top and soon takes the chill off a room. The heater comes with a remote control which enables you to turn it on and off from your chair.
I’m really pleased with it and would recommend it. Good quality and a great price.
so pleased we didn’t go down the more expensive route of a Gas appliance.

We are 80 so a friend arrived this morning to unpack the fire and position it.
We all complained at the noise so our friend undid the two front screws.
The spindle that turns the fan had come out of position, (photo) see the lug fitting on the left.
(We also used the old coals from our gas fire to make it a lovely warm looking fire)
Only some fan noise but it doesn’t intrude, really warm on low setting. Worth a buy…
After buying other fires from else where and sending them back I settled for this one. This fire is fantastic and much better than expected for the money. It is solid built with brilliant real flame look and real coals. The fire comes with a remote that switches on all parts.
Once against the fire place it looks amazing. I strongly recommend this fire.
The fire is perfect and fits flush to the chimney opening from the previous fire. This model has the LED lights and looks great but not as bright as I would like. The heater itself is ok and heats up the room well in a short time. This fire really is the focal point in the room when the flame effect is on and just gives out a cozy feeling. All in all highly recommended.
bought this for my elderly mum to fill in the gap after her local housing association decided that her gas fire was no longer serviceable. This is just the job, however the controls are situated under the hood, fine if you are fairly dextrous, not so good if you are pushing 90!.
Apart from that minor niggle, it looks the part, with the flame effect being particularly effective.
Sits really well and quickly throws out effect heat. Coals are ‘real’ and a bit messy consequently but look good. Slightly noisy when running the fan only without the heater – have tried to adjust levelling but makes no difference. We have an open log fire during the Winter months so this is a tidy and effective alternative for the chillier Summer days/evenings.
Really pleased I chose this Dimplex product. I had to replace my GCH and have the gas fire removed, so I needed something that would sit flush in the existing hearth. The Cheriton blends in perfectly, looking like it’s always been there. Possibly the nearest I’ll get to going back to an open fire. Love the real coal and the fact that the flame is yellow and not red, making the fire look more authentic. Another bonus; I received my fire 2 days earlier than expected, Would definitely recommend you consider this fire if you are loking for a new one.
So easy to install, only takes a few minutes. Looks good on my grate. No noise with just the flame effect, and only a low hum with one fan on. The flame effect is very good and gives a cheerful glow and even makes the room feel warmer. You would need the heating on as well in cold weather, unless the room was very small, but it does a good job and looks nice. I am pleased with it.
Just finished installing it (piece of cake – if I can do it anyone can!) . Belts out the heat (little bit noisy at the 2KW setting but then fan heaters always are, and you’ll soon want to reduce to the much quieter 1KW setting when you get too hot, anyway!). Flame effect is so realistic (although I don’t know how the coals can be dusted when the time comes to do it? Buy 3 more bags of them I suppose; no big deal every couple of years). Top quality build (a bit weighty but that goes with the ‘quality’ territory?) In short, one of the best things I’ve ever bought. GO for it and you’ll never stop thanking me! : – )

The perfect fire for our living room as the old boiler was taken out and the chimney blocked off, it is free standing so it sits on the hearth and looks beautiful.
The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that its not too warm, it has 2 heat settings but the heat blows down from the top canopy and seems to take ages to heat the room, but it is certainly better than no fire and it makes the room look more homely

The flame/ coal effect is very realistic and I have not used the heater yet , but I tried it to make sure it was working properly and the heat was fine for me and the two settings seem to give enough heat.

This fire looks really good in our living room. The flames really warm the room up. We have not used this fire for the heat (as we use central heating), only the flame effect, so cannot comment on the heat created. Only turned it on for the heat to make sure it worked, and yes it did, although with a slight smell, which is expected from an electric heater when first used. Will update review if/when the heat source is used.
Good price and delivered quickly. I was a bit worried about the noise made by the fan heater on this fire but it is of an acceptable level and barely audible if the TV is on. The heater is efficient and the flame effect works well except the mirror at the back reflects not only the flames but the carpet and the feet of anyone in front of it. We were going to use this in our lounge but put it in the dining room instead as the reflections aren’t as noticeable. We have, in fact used a Dimplex stove type electric heater in the lounge as the mirror in this is recessed in the body of the fire so the reflection problem is lessened.
Fire arrived on Mon 28th Sept as promised. Knew it would be good from reviews but exceeded
our expectations. Beautifully packed so was undamaged. Washed real coals and when dried ,assembled and switched on. Absolutely lovely and glad we picked this model

I had exactly the same fire before and i loved it till the motor went on the flame effect side so i decided to get a newer version. I have only bought it for the flame as i miss that not having a real fire. It certainly makes the room feel more cosy especially on cold snowy days !! T he heating side works well also. Handy if you want to heat the room for a short while without putting on the main heating. Some people have complained of this make been slightly noisy although mine isn’t. Would recommend this to anyone thinking of getting one.
I am delighted with this fire. No installation needed, it simply plugs in. The flame effect is very pleasant and the natural coal is quite different from the old plastic-coal-and red-light-bulb fires. This is in effect a fan heater, it blows out hot air and the fan makes some noise but not to an annoying level. It might not be suitable as the only heat source in a large room, but I would think most purchasers would want it as a secondary source in a centrally heated room. It’s fine for this purpose, it covers the open fireplace and the flame effect looks good even without any heat switched on. It arrived promptly and undamaged. Can’t comment on bulb replacement as we haven’t had it long enough. Definitely recommended
The fire is very easy to fit. In fact you don’t even need a fireplace. You could put it against a flat wall and plug it in. It can be a little noisy when you are watching the tv. One drawback is you cannot have the fan heater on without the flame effect which increases the electricity consumption. The flame effect is very good though.
This is my 2nd Dimplex fire. Replaced last one which I have had for some years.
Much cheaper than the first did look round for a different one but prices were far to high
and we only use this for the glow, which is so real looking and makes the house looks real
cosy. So looked on Amason ordered it 27th December was given 30th for it to be delivered
tracked order was even given a time. Cannot fault Amason or DPD sent a came when on
time would recommend this item. Love it.
We bought this fire for its looks and flame effect. We weren’t disappointed, the flame effect is amazing. One tip though, don’t tip the real coal straight from the bags onto the fire like I did. There was quite a lot of coal dust in the bags so I had to remove the coal again to clean up the coal dust. There is a plastic glove supplied for handling the coal (which I found after I got my hands covered in coal dust).

If you want a fire to go up against a wall & to look like a real fire then this has to be the perfect choice.
Guests ask me where the chimney is as it looks so real! The Optiflame effect is so real & the base the coals sit on looks like real red hot coals by using a flame effect too, in fact there are 2 moving effects, one showing “flames” going up the chimney & one showing glowing red coals, difficult to explain but the most realistic electric fire i have ever seen, although the fan heater is nice to have, I purchased it for the flame effect, and I would 100% recommend it, also as it is freestanding, it can be stored for the summer. Incredible value for money too!
I bought this to replace an old gas fire which had died. The flame effect is excellent and the fan heater warms the room through very quickly, though it is not a large room, it has to be said. I like the fact that you can have the flame effect without the heater as it makes the room look very cosy. The only thing I am not sure about is how easy it will be to replace the bulbs as the base looks a bit fiddly to take off. Just hope the bulbs last a long time!
Unfortuneately this fire was not able to be delivered to us in Tenerife because of it’s weight & size. However the reason that we ordered it, was that we had already had one back in the UK. They are a very well made unit, look effective when lit and not too bad when not.The blower unit in the fire is a two speed fan and operates efficiently and quietly. On the high setting it also puts out a large amount of heat.
I recently had an old back boiler and old fashioned gas fire removed. British Gas actually advised replacing with an electric fire as no connection or servicing required.
After studying loads of reviews I settled for the Cheriton.
GOOD POINTS – Well packaged, easy to assemble, which only involves placing the coals. Simply place fire against the wall, plug in and away you go. The fire glow is very realistic, makes a lovely cosy focal point. The switches, i.e. for fire glow & heater are just below the canopy, so not too much bending down to reach.
BAD POINTS – The black surround is plastic. The panel where you see the “flames” is glass, which is reflective, so if you are sat opposite the fire you can see your feet. The blow heater is noisy. Very dirty coals which are many and quite small. Tip… Do wash in soapy water first as they are very black & dusty.
OVERALL – I would have given 5 stars if there had been a choice of surround colour…I would have preferred dark brown. The fan heater wasn’t so distracting…not good if you are just sat reading, but OK with the TV on. Better if you just want a focal point rather than full time heat. A note enclosed about the dirty coals would have been appreciated!

The real “live” coal effect is very realistic though the shimmering flame is a bit ethereal.
However certainly the best in the price range – and Amazon’s discount is by far the best way to buy.
It says “freestanding” but it could be hooked onto to a couple of screws in the wall for extra stability.
Also the fan is a bit noisy if you use both heat switches (2kw). However the light heat effect does give out a very small heat (from the bulbs?) with virtually no sound.
Very nice looking fire with a comforting flame effect which can be used without the heat. It has a substantial black frame which I thought may be overwhelming but it isn’t, it just helps to make the fire look more of a feature. Fitted nicely against a fire surround and marble back panel/hearth that I bought which had previously held an inset gas fire. The size of the Dimplex meant the hole in the back panel was covered nicely. A good buy.
Just outstanding both value and delivery. See this in a shop near me and found it on amazon for 40 cheaper with the deliver. Order done day and received it the next so outstanding. Looks good and ideal for what we wanted but don’t expect to heat a larg room with it. We just needed it to stand in front a open fire when we was not using i
I agree with all the other 5 star reviews: Realistic flame effect, easy to install (apart from the real coal), simple to operate, looks good. The fan is audible but TV volume makes it fade into the background to become insignificant. Recommended as a back-up to main central heating when it’s not cold enough to have the full CH on.
My Mums gas fire was condemed and she felt nervous about replacing it with another one. She needed something in its place so we ordered this to sit in the grate opening . It was a little “tarnished” on the gold grate (couldn’t be bothered sending back) hence 4 stars, but it does look good especially when the coals are lit up. The fan heater throws out good heat, yes you can hear it, but it is a fan heater and not a major problem and with the central heating its not on very often anyway. It does the job making the house “feel cosy” and giving the room a central point.

Nice flame effect and virtually slient on effect only mode, which is good as the last one I had hummed a bit. ‘Wash the coals before using’ was a good tip another user left. Heat output is good too, still quite a quiet fan, wouldn’t use it much though as it is more for decoration. if fitting into a fire surround and hearth as I did, it is a bit big around the outside, and you don’t see much of the granite now which is disappointing. Be sure and check your measurements. If using stand alone then that wouldn’t matter. For the money this is an excellent product.
Having never used our gas fire for years we decided an electric flame effect fire would be practical and look nice too. This fire matches up to all our expectations. It sits beautifully on the marble fireplace and gives a warm looking, inviting glow to the room. As advised by another reviewer, I washed the coals first before laying them in the grate. An excellent fire at a great price. Highly recommended

If i could rate this fire with 6 stars i would its brilliant,I took it out of the box and it was in place and working in less than 5 minuites. It took longer to clean the coals and place them in the grate.
The optiflame effect on the fire is extremely realistic.
There were bad reviews about the quality of the finish of the brass,but this is due to the aging affect on the brass grate in my opinion and does not look out of place on this fire.
This fire also has 2 heat settings of 1kw & 2kw even though the advert only states that its a 2kw fire.
If you are looking for a an electric fire that looks like a realistic coal fire and is extremly quiet this one is the one for you.
After searching shops, dealers and the internet for a number of weeks for a freestanding fire that was just large enough to cover a hole where a fireplace had been removed, I had almost given up hope and was resigned to having to get a builder to brick up part of the hole and make it good.
Quite by chance I saw this very nice looking fire on sale in a shop window, and knew that whatever its dimensions were, it was just what we were looking for, it turned out to be the Dimplex CHT20. My delight at finding it was just the right size was great. I purchased the fire which fitted perfectly onto my hearth and is much admired by everyone.
We bought this primarily for appearance. You don’t get thermostat control at this price point, but you do get a pretty good flame effect, and a nice looking fire. Better than a coal or gas in many ways, because you can use it with flame effect only even if the weather’s hot, without making the room too hot. Comes with real coal, but I wouldn’t recommend lighting it! The heating can be useful if you’ve been out and the CH been off all day – you get a good instant blast, but we didn’t buy it as a heater. The surround of this one is larger than most, one of the few that would cover the hole in our existing fireplace. It doesn’t need a recess.

Cheriton.it arrived the next day as promised and from box to toasting my feet only took
1/2 hour. it looks great and with the central heating is adequate for the odd cold
night. we also saved 30 on the price at Argos! Ps your hands will get dirty,
but how realistic is that!!
The Fire itself looks very classy and I have to say that I am very impressed, I love it and cannot fault it. Everyone who has seen it says how lovely it is. I bought it to replace an old tired gas fire that no longer worked and the this fire has changed the look of my room so much, it is a pleasure to sit in there in the evening now. I would recommend this fire to anyone for the look, the quality, the flame effect and the ease of installation. By the way the flex is 1.5 meters and comes from the centre bottom of the fire and can go left or right.
