Did what I needed. Bit heavy but it is fairly cheap. Great if you only use it once a year on a small area

Saves so much time and effort compared with using a manual pruning saw on a pole. Should of got one years ago! Not too heavy. The instructions aren’t great – I don’t think they even tell you to put chainsaw oil in the reservoir.

The pole is a useful length and saw cuts through branches easily. Easy to assemble and you should put lubrication oil in it.
Great for trimming low but out of reach hanging branches.

A bit heavy and un-balanced to use, but understandable with 10 foot reach. Cuts well in pruning branches, pleased with automatic oil reservoir.

Does what it says. Make sure you tension the chain correctly (use the black tightening screw) and also flip off the orange chain guard plastic tightener with a screw driver and give it a few turns with the spanner provided. Double check you have the chain the right way around and all good. Recommended for around the 100 mark or less

Great value for the price. Cuts well and will take off quite large branches (4 or 5 inch diameter) easily if you work up the branch) Reach not as long as some when extended, but perfect for a non-professional with a high maintenance garden.

Literally best money ever spent! After receiving ridiculous quote to trim our extremely tall conifer hedge, we bought this to do it ourselves, and its amazing! Very sturdy, cuts cleanly and quickly. Just keep an eye on the oil level, as it goes down quickly. Best item I’ve ever bought, what an investment!

Having only ever used and purchased petrol driven chainsaws, I was sceptical about buying this item, but needed it as the overhanging branches from railway embankment that ladders alone couldn’t reach. Worked perfectly, no problems, just keep oil topped up.

Used this to take 5 feet off a conifer in the garden. Don’t know how i would have done it otherwise without calling a tree surgeon. Easy to put together and after I had lopped the tree it made short work of cutting everything up so it could all go in the garden waste bin. Would be useful if the saw could be detached from the pole for some jobs but other than that good item.

Made light work of topping the tree

Better than I expected. No issues putting it together and having used it for about 30mins have had no issues with loose screws etc. I think some reviewers just haven’t put it together correctly. Cuts branches effectively but is very top heavy as you’d expect (that’s where the weight is concentrated), so imagine it would become a little unwieldy after extended use. 4 stars as it’s not as powerful as my petrol chainsaw, but that’s to be expected. Overall, would recommend.

I got this to prune an old and overgrown apple tree. The assembley instruction are not great but once you start all becomes clear. Not too difficult to manage when you get your stance right, bearing in mind that it is top heavy. The knob used to angle the saw head was very stiff and remains quite difficult to turn but that’s a minor gripe. The chain oil chamber is very small so you do need to keep your eye on it. All in all a good piece of equipment that cuts through branches like a hot knife through butter!

I bought this product for less than 100 following two quotes of around 500 to prune my overgrown apple tree. I made approx 40 cuts of branches up to 4 inches thick with no problems. Very pleased with my purchase. Removing cut branches from the top of the tree required some effort and should be considered in advance (I used a long pole).
Easy to assemble and clean after each use.
As others have stated, the instruction leaflet should have been updated to correct errors and omissions since 2014 publication date. Not good for a company like Black and Decker. In particular note that no mention is made of filling the reservoir with oil even if this should be obvious (most of their written instructions are equally obvious). There has also been a design change that deleted the locking nut 8 and hence makes the provided spanner unnecessary. The chain tensioning instructions are thus confusing as they cannot be followed.
I did not find the tool heavy and it was easily controllable at full pole extension.
I would not recommend the tool to someone that often requires to prune trees but it seems ideal for the occasional use for which I bought it. Note that I have not had reason to test it on branches thicker than 4 inches.

I was a little dubious in making this purchase having had bad experiences of similar products in the past. This has become a godsend since the beginning of the lockdown in March 2020. I have rejuvenated my garden and without a doubt I could not have done it without my hardy friend. Easy to assemble, maintain and clean and a real Terminator in the garde

Being an 83 year old I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew. I found that this was not so when I cut off branches from an Oak tree I have at the bottom of my garden, it did the job and letting the saws weight and little pressure it cut through the branches with ease, the biggest being 6 inches in diameter.

Wonderful chainsaw cuts through thick logs easily.had to use YouTube to assemble but once you realise to slacken off tension screw to fit the chain assembly it is simple.although in my 70s it is my first chainsaw and as long as you follow instructions and wear a visor feel comfortable using it and it is a top class product and would highly recommend!

    Can cut quite thick branches and telescopic pole is very handy. The only downside : it is heavy! God value for money i recommend;

  36. Anonymous says:

Brilliant product, more than happy with it. It cuts through small branches with ease, amazing telescopic ability – I managed to reach branches up to 4m up and still cut easily. As shown in picture it can cut through much larger branches like a knife through butter!! Had a look on YouTube for an assembly video as instructions weren’t too great.

I highly recommend buying chainsaw oil (generic is fine) alongside this product as the Chainsaw will require this to operate smoothly.

    Cons:

The nut used to tighten the saw chain & hold the cover over the components comes loose the more you use it. I had to tighten the nut by hand after every use when cutting branches thicker than 5inch diameter and after every other smaller branch. When the but gets too lose the cover will fly off and the chain and saw pieces also detach and fly off but just remember to tighten the nut every so often.

At full range the chainsaw can become quite top heavy and hard to cut with but under stable footing and a good grip still works well.

Would rate 5 star if these two issues didn’t happen.

Otherwise a great product for the price and amazing tool with surprising capabilities!

Brilliant tool but 2 minor issues!

Used it to cut down a birch tree approx 10 metres tall 100 mm thick That I was quoted 280 by a tree surgeon to remove.

Golden Review Award: 47 From Our UsersTo start off, I have a bit of a tool fetish as a tradesman. In fact, I cant remember the last time a paid less than 100 for a corded/cordless tool. However, I only needed something to help me reach some large tree branches in my garden which would allow me to fell the trunk using a chainsaw. So after reading some reviews I decided to give this one a go.

    Pro’s
    – Easy to assemble, took me less that 10 minutes out of the box.
    – Easy to use, great quick release action on the pole extension
    – Surprisingly not that heavy, even when fully extended. I didn’t use the shoulder strap once.
    – Will cut through thick logs with relative ease (see pic).
    – And paying 79.99 for it, great value for money

    Con’s
    – Make sure to buy chain oil! I forgot myself so had to pop to my local screwfix.
    – If you are planning on cutting some thicker branches, like myself, and have a few to do. It might be worth buying a spare blade as the one supplied doesn’t last that long. I used an Oregon Chain blade from Amazon, it was 11.15 and worth every penny.
    – Keep an eye on the chain oil level. It is a very shallow sump and runs out of oil quicker than you would expect.

Pointers to Remember (If your new to using this kind of equipment)
    – After a good few cuts, make sure to take the side plate off and clean out all the sawdust. It will help with oiling the blade and prolonging life.
    – And when using it, always make sure that you butt the bottom of the guide bar up to the branch. NEVER cut a branch using the front end of the guide bar as this is where the “kickback zone” is. Google kickback zone if you don’t know what it is.

Would I recommend this to a DIY’er/keen gardener. ABSOLUTELY!!!

Overall great value of money, it does the job very well, feels sturdy and safe to use. Why only 4 stars? The chain tension screw isn’t in the best place and makes life a little difficult, and due to the 800W motor, it does lack a little power (for my personal preference).

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value Pole Saw

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersI bought this pole saw to fell some quick significant limbs and branches overhanging my property. The instructions to set it up are very straight froward and for those that report that the build quality is poor or that the chain comes off are talking rubbish. This is a sturdy, well designed piece of kit which tackles branches of 6 inches or so very comfortably. At full extension it gets a little unwieldy unless you are using it vertically but once you have the chain bar resting on the branch you are about to cut, the tree will take the weight until you cut through. There was no oil in the box I purchased despite me reading somewhere it was included but I’d advise getting some good chainsaw oil in any case, and a file as you will blunt the teeth through use. Sharpening correctly has a knack about it but you will save a great deal of money by not continually replacing the chain. I got a good hour or so’s work felling and the chain is still sharp.

A very useful tool. I have about 400 meters of evergreen hedge which is over 8 feet tall, The tops grow like christmas trees to over 12 ft. This is very hard work and this little saw just eats it up. You need to be careful and keep the chain tension just right and the plastic cover often jams up with small twigs, but, keep it clean and it keeps going.

I have bought an extra battery; to always have lots of power, and have worn out two chains already, but the motor still runs powerfully. The chain teeth are quite small and it took a bit of looking to find a 3mm chain file. I’m glad I bought it, every time I take it out.

When i read the reviews i wasn’t sure but can say that those who moan about the chain coming off, that’s mainly down to wrong speed setting and lack of oil, as this has happened to me before on other chain saw like products. However this saw by B&D is very sturdy, well thought out and strong. It really has sorted out the branches from a overhanging tree from a neighbours garden, and with a cutting width up to 25cms it handles thick branches too very easily.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersA first class cutting tool that is easy to use. I only wish I had bought one earlier it would have saved me extra effort and time spent working a lot harder. Deliver from Amazon was nothing less than excellent. Regards Frank
