Up and running in 30 minutes
I eyed up the box for a few days before taking the plunge and opening it. I had watched a you tube tutorial from Abi’s Den (she has one of these and lots of great videos) and tried to tie up my threads to the existing threads, but they didn’t pull through. I then followed the tutorial and after a bit of fiddling I managed to get the machine going, only to sew the most beautiful hem ever! I’m sold, I don’t think my sewing will ever be the same again! Shame about the cutting tray, why wouldn’t they include that?

Never used an overlocker before so was nervous about which one to buy. The reviews seemed good so bought this one.
It’s very, very user friendly. It’s easy to thread, very reliable and is just what I wanted.
I’m not very good at sewing stretch fabrics using my normal machine so I wasn’t able to use them until I had this. I’ve since been able to make lots of cute dresses for my little girl in practical jerseys, but it also is much faster and the seems are more secure on all fabrics.
I haven’t tried anything other than the standard four-thread seams but the info is all there in the manual so will hopefully be brave enough in the future.

Brillant entry level without the fuss, it’s quite simple to setup and has a compresive set of instructions provided. Small and well built, it’s made of high quality parts, which I expect from Brother
Being hyper critical, I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t clearly label the order on machine for threading, this just ensures you read the instructions first. Its price is a little expensive considering historically it’s been lower by about 30-40 percent

This overlocker replaced a 30 year old machine which cost five times as much!
This machine works perfectly, was delivered quickly, extremely well packed and is excellent value for money. The accompanying DVD is excellent, particularly for someone who is new to an overlocker – they can be quite daunting.
Easy to thread and use.
Delighted with my overlocker. This was my first time buying or using an overlocker so I wasn’t sure if I could manage it. The instructions and colour coded threading were great. Threading seems a bit daunting at first but it went well and I’m very happy with my purchase.
I bought this in an Amazon offer at 145 so hang fire if it’s more than that; the price should do a downward jump at some point. My review and ratings are based on the lower price point, where it is excellent value for money. It’s a real pain to thread if you don’t know how, and a CD is a pretty old fashioned and often impractical method of supplying an instruction manual. YouTube to the rescue and it solved all my frustrations. Key is to move the knife out of the way and slide the lever across. That done, I carried out a number of tests and it pretty much did exactly what it was supposed to do with no fuss. The end result was pretty professional. You will need practice to work in straight lines but the foot pedal was quite responsive so it didn’t run away with the work. This machine is, by design, a one trick pony, so doesn’t have a huge array of adjustments and is very quick to grasp (after threading). Niggles: would have preferred a paper instruction manual, the dust cover is a flimsy bit of plastic, accessories are not the highest quality plastics. You’d struggle to beat the price for a respected brand machine though, hence 5* at 145. Buy a proper bag to keep it in.

I have never used an overlocker before but have wanted one for some time. This machine is perfect for my needs. I found it easy to use right out of the box and easy to thread, which was a pleasant surprise! It did come ready threaded but I snapped one of the threads while I was pulling the new threads through. The user manual is great and really easy to follow but if you do get stuck, Abi’s Den on YouTube has the same model and she has a great step by step video of how to thread the machine from scratch.
I have used it on lots of different thicknesses of fabric and the stitch has been perfect. Also you don’t have to purchase the big cones of thread as the stand will hold both cones and smaller spools of thread, so you can use what you already have.
All in all a really good overlocker for the money. I have had mine for over a month now and it is perfect for dressmaking.

I have been into my sewing on and off for about ten years, but never had I used my own overlocker. I decided I wanted to make my creations look a bit more professional so purchased this overlocker. When it arrived it looked quite daunting, however it was really easy to follow the instructions and guides for threading, and my makes are now finished professionally!

Very happy with this purchase. It arrived well packaged with DVD and manual. No thread, except a few lengths which are prethreaded for demonstration. After studying the instructions it was not too difficult to set up. I was delighted to have it threaded from scratch and working within half an hour or so. Not bad for a first go. I can now change threads in 5 minutes. Hurray. Obviously it takes a little investment of time and effort if you haven’t used an overlocker before which I hadn’t but I was pleasantly surprised how straightforward it was to thread having been a bit intimidated by overlockers generally! The coloured threading guides are a big help as is the manual booklet. The lower looper is the trickiest bit to thread but has an ingenious sliding lever which makes it much easier. It took a few practice goes to get the hang of but I was soon overlocking confidently on fabric ranging from thin cotton to thicker corduroy and trouser fabric and I’m pleased with the results so far. Stitching looks neat and professional. I don’t find it too noisy at all but I sew in a room away from the family. Slightly noisier than my sewing machine but not a bother to me. It may be a basic model and there are more expensive ones with more features but this one does what I want to do with no fuss or problem Glad I bought it.

Sewing clothes? Get an overlocker!
As a first time user I am really impressed with my overlocker. It’s not too big so it’s easy to store. Easy to thread. (I was expecting a nightmare!) There are clear pictures in the manual and coloured guidelines on the machine. It makes a huge difference to the finishing of my clothes/alterations. Also impressed with Amazons 0% instalment plan. I was reluctant to spend a lot of money straight away on something I thought was not essential. I was wrong! It is essential! And spread over 4 payments made it seem like less!

After looking around for ages I decided to go for this Brother overlocker as my first venture into using one. The price was good, and there was an interest free installments option too, which made it even more attractive. The initial threading was a bit tricky (I don’t think this model is any worse or better than it’s competitors in this aspect, they are all a bit fiddly) Thanks to Youtube I managed to find a video of how to do it and off I went. The machine is great, not too big or too fancy for my needs. I have had to purchase a bin to add to the machine, which should come as standard in my opinion as you end up with off cuts of fabric, threads and fluff all over otherwise, but given the price, I can see why it probably wasn’t part of the initial deal. Overall I’m really pleased with the machine, and would certainly be happy to recommend it to other sewers.

I have toyed with the idea of an overlocker for some years and I wish I had bought one earlier. This machine got good reviews and I have found it easy to use and I love the results. My seams are beautifully finished! The machine came ready threaded and I just had to attach the new threads and pull them through. I decided to thread it up anyway and the DVD instructions are excellent. There are directions printed on the machine too to guide you.
The machine is quite small and doesn’t take up much room so I can keep it next to my sewing table and just move across to do the seams. I haven’t explored any other techniques I can use it for yet but it is a good machine for a beginner.

Super little overlocker bit loud but it’s fab you don’t get cotton with it but it’s treaded just tie on your thread and pull through very easy to use

I like the overlock a lot it does the job and helped me with my final collection although it did unthread sometimes but I notice if you thread it once over and allow the right standard settings then it will be fine.

Firstly I love Brother sewing machines. They are reliable, reasonably priced and last for long time.
This overlocker is an upgrade for me. I love the style and it works like a dream.
It is simple to thread, and is a quieter machine than my last one. It gives the perfect finish to my garments.
I would recommend this machine for all levels of sewists, and believe me if you have never had one and think you don’t need one… once you have one, you will soon realise what an important asset this machine is to your sewing room.

Well, it took me ages to actually pluck up the courage and buy an overlocker. My greatest fear was that I would get frustrated with learning to use it and threading it and then wouldn’t use it. I didn’t want to end up with another piece of unused equipment! How wrong I was!! This is a great machine. Its so easy to thread. It comes pre threaded with loose threads (not full cones) and I’d read many reviews suggesting that we tie those loose threads to full cones, then pull them through to make threading easier….no need! I actually found it easier to just follow the diagram on the machine and thread it myself. It sews great and I’m really happy with my purchase.
I, like some others, was unfortunate with my first purchase in that a small cover on the front was broken. This is a cosmetic piece and doesn’t affect the working of the machine at all. I do agree though that it looks a bit unsightly without it. However, Amazon replaced the machine very quickly for me so all is well. Theres lots of on line tutorials to help with the machine too. All in all, a great machine at a great price.

I am very pleased with my new overlocker. I have never had one before as have always been put off by the threading involved. Reading the reviews on this one it seemed it would be fairly simple to thread and it is. Once you have done it once, then it is no problem. There is a guide on the machine showing exactly where each thread goes so you cannot go wrong. The machine runs really well on a variety of fabrics from really thin, slippery fabric to heavy cotton. The price is amazing and I would certainly recommend this great machine.
I returned the item and am trying a replacement…it arrived with the test overlock sew patch you get that showed there was a thread jam…and the threading itself was jammed…looped twice around the lower looper arm, which cause a looping over the lower loop giving five or six threads sowing….so it was a reject item or a badly reconditioned item. It sewed ok …the threading was super easy..i did it do many times to try getting rid of the double looping when itnstarted tonsow….but the fabric jammed into the tread every time because of the extra looping which meant the sewing was wrecked trying to free the fabric and so I gave up trying to find a sweet spot for the the tension and rethreading…. in case that was the cause….when i decided to change the needles in case that helped and i couldnt for love of money remove the left needle…even with pliers!…. i gave up. Sent it in for replacement….lets see…. I am beginning to suspect Amazon is now selling faulty, rejected or reconditioned items. Then you have to lug them back to the post office to return them…..oh…and amazon got me to buy a four year maintenance….but it comes with a 3 year manufacturer guarantee!! So does Brother drag their feet repairing unless you have bought a maintenance insurance policy to rev them up? I will wait for my replacement and see if this is also a dud and in fact Amazon is selling duds.
Two days later….It was replaced and the replacement works like magic. It chains before and after just as its supposed to. Dreadful LED light. Yes it is basic, yes it is easy to thread, yes it does its job. Yes it was a great bargain!

Good overlocker. I initially had problems threading but the instruction dvd helped.. once i was set on it was smooth.. makes my crafts very neat.. have used it for a few months now and does the job perfectly well… it doesnt come with a fabric tray for cuts fromkl overocking..

Bought this for my wife as an emergency machine. Delivered the next day and was set up in a no time. The DVD was useful and the machine is perfect. Ideal for any overclocking job. With the right accessories it can do much more. Plus its a lightweight machine.

I’ve used overlockers for many years but for some time I haven’t been happy with the machines I had. Then I inherited my mother’s old warhorse and after many hours of bad words, I decided hand-finishing and French seams were the way forward. This overlocker has changed my view entirely. It is (relatively) easy to thread, it is reasonably quiet in use, it doesn’t go on a walk all round the work table and it makes a very neat job. It is equally at home on satin, cotton, tweed (yes, I sew a lot), silk organza and dress net. A bit-catcher would be helpful but I don’t find it’s worth paying extra for that.
I brush out the machine at the end of every sewing session, usually morning and evening. The fibres make quite thick ‘felt’ pads if you leave them and that’s the way to misery. The machine comes with a good instruction book and a DVD. It is already threaded with four miserably-short threads; the easiest solution is to remove them and thread up again from scratch. I’m very happy with this machine. A friend has a top-of-the-range job but I prefer mine. It gives such a clean, professional look, it’s quick and it’s easy to use.
Looking at the machine to thread you think OMG.. But it’s easy. Bit noisy but least the neighbours will no I’m alive…lol

The Overlocker came ready threaded, which was a big bonas, as threading is tricky and has to be done in order., made easier by directions printed on the machine. I haven’t tried all the available finishes, but the basic 4 thread stitch gives a very professional finish.
This is a good quailty machine. I am familiar with overlockers but it is a bonus that the machine is already threaded and has colour coded threading.

If i could talk to this machine i would say “Where have you been all my life?”. It is brilliant i have found a new love of dress making, i am not daunted by the insecurity of not having a garment finished correctly or without that touch of professionalism. It is so neat and tidy, and very straight forward to thread. The manuel is very helpful as well as the dvd step by step guide to everything , . I would say that it is the best purchase i have ever made.
