Bought this carbon monoxide detector for the car just to put my mind at rest that no exhaust fumes were getting in. It works well and I like the fact that it has a display that shows the level of any carbon monoxide that might be present. It was interesting when I drove through a tunnel in the car and it did detect a small amount of car monoxide from the other cars that was within safe limits. This then reduced to zero after I left the tunnel. It was reassuring to know that it works though

This is a very neat alarm which stands on the windowsill near our gas fire. The dial is easy to read & you can alternate it to tell the room temperature if you wish. It is ideal if you don’t want to drill in to a wall and as it is sealed for life there is no messing with having to change batteries.

Really like the temperature feature and love the live monitoring display – it tells you exactly how much (if any) carbon monoxide is in the room. Only slight quibble is that the noise switching display from carbon monoxide to temperature is very loud. It still monitors whether in temp display or not. But this is a far superior product than big standard models.

I purchased 2 of these items, 1 for the area of my home where I have a propane gas fired central heating system, the second for my garage and workshop which has a portable butane heater.
Both devices were easy to fit and give a clearly visible display of any contamination.

Easy to set-up and they work which is the main thing. They also double as a thermometer and I’ve found it interesting seeing the temperature of the room vary next to my open fire. Put the CO meter next to my father in laws open fire which often spills smoke and it was interesting to see the CO ppm measure increase then dip back again. Useful if you just want to know that CO is leaking below the typical alarm levels.

Much more reassured by having a digital read out. Bit confusing as where is best place to put it. Says not within a 1m of the boiler but mine is inside a cupboard so have had to install outside on the landing. Seems from researching that it should be at eye level in any room other than where the boiler is, or at least that’s my understanding. Only had it a month but all seems well so far.

Life saver. Literally. So grateful we had it in the house as it alerted me to the danger of a leak while we were all fast asleep in the house. Windows open, kids out of bed at 2am and dialled “Smell Gas”. Fire brigade responded and thankfully due to the alert everyone was safe. Well worth the additional premium to get a digital read out as we could monitor actual rising / falling readings on the device. Recommended.

An essential safety device for all households with an open fire/wood burner/ gas appliances.
The CO2 alarm is very easy to install by just pulling the plastic tag out to connect the battery and follow the instructions on where to put it. (I attached it above the door using heavy duty velcro pads). The alarm is very loud and has an easy to read display which constantly monitors CO2 levels and room temperature.
This model is a Which? best buy and is a great price on Amazon. I feel safer using my wood burner now that I have this alarm installed.

Time will tell whether they actually last seven years but buying through Amazon you don’t need to find an old receipt to make a claim if they don’t!

Seem well made. I like the readout, gives peace of mind. You can test them in an ultra sensitive mode and blow out a match nearby. I also like that you can have them showing the room temperature.

They stand on a shelf or you can wall mount.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought one of these 7 years ago and it has sat there silently, gently flashing every 5 minutes or so, indicating 0 CO on the digital readout. I went to a friend’s house the other day and found hers (different make) in a saucepan of water on the draining board because its battery had finally gone flat and woke her in the night. I was amazed it was still working although it had been under water for 12 hours. Anyway, I ordered her a Fireangel because I can’t fault mine: I’m not dead yet! The new one has arrived and it is possibly nicer than the old one – it has a few extra functions that I hadn’t noticed on mine, such as a thermometer (yawn!) and also a sensor test mode, where you can test it by holding a joss stick near it (I only briefly read her instructions. I think in test mode, the LCD shows you how much CO the joss stick is emitting, but the alarm doesn’t go off). Also it doesn’t flash, which is probably a good thing – it just has a little intermittent symbol on its LCD display instead to show that it is working.

Now after 8 years mine clicks every 5 or 10 minutes when it’s cold, so the battery is probably low and it’s time for me to buy another.

We all know the annoying chirp an alarm gives when running low on battery, especially when it starts in the middle of the night. I wanted a solution that would mean an end to changing batteries. I can’t comment on the 7 year battery life yet as I’ve only had it a few months but I’m hoping this really is ‘fit and forget’ for several years.

The unit itself is smart looking and not too chunky. It gives an interesting historical read out, but since I’ve had no positive readings, it shows a zero graph. But it is reassuring to know that you could see if there had been any potential carbon monoxide readings. You can set the unit to constantly display the temperature of the room which is a useful feature. It also came with a thoughtful battery disconnect tag, which you can insert to take for unit away on holiday if you are packing it in a bag.

Carbon monoxide is a silent killer and this is a very smart investment.

    Vital for every home!

It seems good quality for money. The thermometer is accurate as the reading tallies with other devices such as hive.
I think it’s useful to see the exact reading of carbon monoxide for reassurance although I have never seen it over 0 yet.
The alarm is loud when testing. The instructions for placing the alarm could be a little better. Overall it seems a decent product that you can leave in place and not have to concern yourself with battery life etc.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersLast night I had my 2nd carbon monoxide leak in a week. I purchased two detectors and both alarms sounded and at the same time also indicated the level of carbon monoxide in the air. Last week was my first leak and only one alarm sounded. I can only assume it was because it was badly positioned. I repositioned it the following day. I am very pleased to have purchased these alarms which have probably saved my life. What I also liked was that I immediately opened all of the windows and I was able to see instantly the level of carbon dioxide diminish via the screen. I then felt safe enough to go back to bed leaving the windows open. Had I had an alarm without a screen i would have had no way of knowing that it was safe to go back to sleep. Next steps: buy another Fireangle detector for a bedroom and replace my faulty woodburner!

Prompt delivery at a good price
The unit is very easy to install, fits onto two fixing screws which are supplied.
Very easy to use, unit scrolls between carbon monoxide level and a temperature display screen.
7 year sealed battery life makes it fit and forget until it’s due for replacement.
    I would recommend this product.

I needed a replacement alarm and this was great value for money. No more changing batteries, although I find that the batteries in these sort of alarms do last a long time anyway. I didn’t attach it to the wall, it’s able to stand near my appliance so I don’t have to worry about drilling holes. There’s a few different options like room temperature etc but I just leave it on the display that tells me if it’s detected any fumes, luckily it hasn’t.
You can test if the alarm is detecting carbon monoxide, instructions are in the manual and this should be done on a regular basis to ensure the alarm is still working.
    Great price and great quality.
Hope you found my review helpful

Despite my husband telling me our oil boiler gets serviced every year and we therefore don’t need one, I bought it for peace of mind. It has a Zero reading, which of course is what we hoped, but it is there in our utility, easy to read if anything changes. For the small amount of money, I thought it was well worth it.

Have had one unit over 7 years and needed a replacement could not recommend enough and that you can either fit to a wall or simply place on a counter, would recommend this item as it may be a little expensive but it could save you and loved ones their life. Would definitely recommend.

Recently triggered off by charging a vehicle battery but before process of elimination was done, called the gas helpline, isolated the gas and confirmed co2, yet when boiler was services found out the alarm was triggered by charging a battery on boost, at least we knew what the issue is and the fact it detected co2 as the gas board confirmed.

Dont hesitate buy one and you won’t be disappointed, and could save you or your loved ones lives.

I mean, I suppose at this point I have to say that the product is good. I am alive and have not died from carbon monoxide poisoning. However, my continued existence is probably more down to the fact that my boiler hasn’t spewed carbon monoxide everywhere rather than the purchase of this device.

    Well done boiler manufacturer.

My life, little Fireangel, is potentially in your hands. Not that you have hands. My life, little Fireangel, is in your sensors.

Bought these to station around the house. Whilst not the cheapest, its a rated name and a good deal for the set i got.

Instructions were clear, the battery internal so you literally pull out a tab, and off it goes. These ones also tell you the temperature in your property which i thought was a nice touch. Mounted waist height, and so far running a dream without issue. Good product from a trusted brand.

My British Gas service engineer gives me a black mark on his boiler service report if I don’t have one of these in the same room. He says I should have one in every room with a gas appliance..

This is a neat and unobtrusive device.

It’s not possible to actually test whether it goes off if there’s carbon monoxide in the room, so I’ll take it on trust.

I hope I never hear it go off!

I wanted one to replace my existing one looked around at others liked the idea of a display. Easy to set up easy to operate looks ok green led flash’s regularly test it ever week seems to be fine. Over all happy with it.

I bought the twin pack of these so that I could give one to my parents and keep one for myself. My parents have central heating and have installed it about two meters away from the boiler, where as I have an open coal burning range so though I’d but these to monitor our houses for problems with carbon monoxide.

The unit looks modern and is quite stylish to look at, the display can be changed to show either ambient temperature or CO levels with a push of the single test button. The alarm is very loud and has a flashing LED warning that lights up the front of the display.
The unit comes with a sealed battery that should last for a couple of years, the display occasionally flashes green to show that the battery is working correctly (this may be a problem if used in a bedroom).

I think these are some of the best looking detectors that I’ve seen and were very reasonably priced. Worth every penny for a bit of peace of mind.

Not only was this easy to fit but looks smart in position in our lounge with a really useful temperature display. It’s also worth noting that the device has been tested and certified by the British Standards Institute and bears the trusted Kite Mark. Overall very pleased. UPDATE>>>> I purchased this in May 2019. In February 2020 one evening my wife and I were watching TV with the gas fire on when the alarm suddenly started to sound and the graph on the device was warning of dangerous levels of CO in the air. I turned off the fire and vented the room. It turned out we had a faulty seal on the fire!!! This is certainly money well spent 🙂

We already had an interlinked fireangel carbon monoxide alarm but I don’t like that it doesn’t tell you the exact ppm so I bought this one for added peace of mind. I bought this Fireangel Carbon Monoxide Alarm to replace a previous alarm that had passed its use by date. This is a lovely little alarm with a simple, easy to understand display which not only shows any urgent issues but shows peak points for any detected Carbon Monoxide. It’s super easy to use and test and the instructions are simple. The alarm sound is really, really loud so you can feel safe knowing that this will definitely wake you up if there is an issue.

We have purchased one previously and it has been O.K. This is the fourth unit we have bought as our relatives have several house all of which need Carbon Monoxide alarms. In one house two of the detectors have not been commissioned yet as the property is unoccupied at present. I would perhaps purchase a mains operated unit next time by the same manufacturer.

In March 2019 bought 4 of the Fireangel CO detectors (CO 9D model) one for each bedroom and one just outside the kitchen, and last weekend we had a rather alarming (pun intended) incident where the alarm went off showing 41ppm (apparently toxic level). It caused us a panic, we did as instructed (opened windows, turned off gas supply, turned off hot water heaters etc), but oddly putting one of the other alarms in the same location, it didn’t go off. Since it was only 2 months old, we assumed a faulty device. I contacted Fireangel and they immediately offered to replace it and agreed it was faulty. They were super about sending a replacement straight away without any fuss. The units are low profile and blend in easily, unobtrusive, and give us peace of mind. Highly recommended!

I bought two. They are fine. Simple. cheap. Does what it says on the tin. But. This product has two display modes CO ppm and temperature. I would like to display temperature as a general rule. The only way of changing the mode is to press the ‘Test’ button. Annoying in itself. But it then changes back to what ‘it prefers’. On one of the alarms that it temperature. On the other it is CO ppm. Why? Minor point but slightly frustrating!

Surprisingly compact device with clear, easy-to-read instructions & directions for installing, looks like it does the job! Given it 4 stars as only had limited time to evaluate but feel a lot safer with having this in the house, constant reminders from our Annual Gas Service Engineers motivated me to purchase this despite our boiler being in tip-top condition, but it’s always that ‘just in case’ scenario. Also it is portable which means you could take it on holiday if letting a cottage or villa, etc. Really good value therefore.

I bought this as an extra safety feature for the house. We’ve all read about terrible accidents with CO. It is well built and boasts a 7 year battery life. Straight out of the box it reads: 0. I guess that’s very good but how do you tell if it’s actually working or not giving a false reading? I suppose the fact that I’m setting here typing out a half sensible review probably means that the zero reading is accurate enough…or is it????

Not prepared to take a chance on the safety of myself and my family, I decided to get a slightly better alarm which gives readings as well as an alarm. Very loud and the screen showing the readings is very reassuring, especially since our boiler is in a bedroom. Highly recommended.

I bought this to replace a previous detector that had expired after the usual seven year fixed lifespan. It is very easy to set up and use, but some care is needed to put it in a appropriate location, as with all of these products.

The detector has a useful display that shows either temperature or current carbon monoxide level as extra reassurance. In use ours constantly shows zero, but it did indicate a low reading when I tested it with a CO source.

I like the fact that it has an internal battery designed to last the lifetime of the product. So hopefully we won’t be woken in the middle of the night with it chirping for a new battery.

im doing a camper conversion so liked this as you can see when only a really small amount of (is it carbon monoxide?!) was present in the van, not large enough to ‘alarm the beep only alarms’; it showed us there was a leak somewhere back into the van from the diesel heater fumes
FAR BETTER than the beep only versions, just makes me feel SO MUCH BETTER seeing the digital read ou

I like the LCD display on this one, it makes things a lot easier to work out. My last monitor’s alarm went off and didn’t adhere to the stated pattern of beeps so I couldn’t work out what was going on with it and assumed the worst. Turns out it was simply shouting about being at the end of it’s useful life. So the LCD screen that will display a message as well as an audible alarm won me over this time round.

This CO detector is ready to go. the battery lasts seven years, so I dont have to worry about it running flat. Very easy to set up,as long as one reads the little instruction manuel. Placing it where? was a bit of a poser, but decided in the
kitchen on a high shelf, two meters from the combi gas boiler. Tested the alarm. Everything working OK.Will test every week and a circuit test will be done once a year, both simple to do.

I have three of these in my house. One, i purchased a few years ago, and 2 I purchased from Amazon. I have one by the gas boiler, one by the log burner and one at the top of the stairs. Ok they are a little more expensive than the cheaper products but I think the fact it shows the current ppm count makes it worth a few extra quid. I also like the fact I can stand this up on a shelf near the log burner rather than mounting it on the wall or ceiling.

All in all a quality made product for a reasonable price.

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersI am happy with my purchase. I was doubtful due to some of the review stating that they have rested the product but it does not work. These people cannot have read the instruction manual fully as it clearly explains How it works and where to place the alarm. The tests mentioned by other reviewers are unfair.
I love how these come with wall attachments and they can also be freestanding, as shown in my photo. This is a great feature as it means I can take them with me when visiting hotels/caravans etc.
The manual is informative and simple to understand and wrtten in English, not translated. It is clearly intended for The British market as there is British rested safety advice and telephone numbers of the UK Gas board etc.
The test is loud so I have every faith that this will work well to wake me up.
The screen is reassuring as you can monitor the co2 level against the reference in the manual.
I hope you found this helpful.

For the price (17) this is amazing! But comparing it to other Co alarms you should note:
Its not the loudest alarm out there.
It has an annoying light that flashes brighter than my other alarms.
Build quality (if this even matters) isnt great.

But it does work perfect as tested myself with some known sources of Co in a room where I expect 20ppm, this detector did climb to 23.
Also the alarm did ring in a slightly smokey environment from Co at higher levels. So for its price it’s 5 star but compared to some other detectors 4 star.

I ordered two units to replace old life expired units and received them 2 days later so cannot fault supplier.
The detectors themselves are well made and do just what is claimed in terms of sound level on test and if required show room temperature. The fact that they can be deactivated by re-inserting a safety device means that they can be moved about externally from house to house and then reactivated by removing the security device. Sealed battery is an advantage since it has an advertised life of 7 yrs and should avoid the need to replace batteries frequently as others I have owned required. I trust that it will do its job although I hope that it will not be needed. Time will tell how good it really is.

Bought this on a lightning deal and got a really good CO alarm for my money. I keep it in the living room near my multi-fuel burner. The unit combines a standard CO alarm, including the usual lights and siren, with a digital readout which can show either room temperature or CO ppm (this is handy because it lets you know if any combustion gases are leaking into the room, even at low levels, allowing you to tackle a potential problem before the ppm reach dangerous levels). Great reassurance at a very reasonable price.

It supposedly does what it’s meant to – measure carbon monoxide in the air. So far I’ve had none even though I’m lighting fires most nights. Is this a good thing? Well no carbon monoxide is good right? I’ve no way of telling if it’s working so I assume it is. If I did in my sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning, you’ll know that it doesn’t work. Doubles as a thermometer although annoyingly I’ve to press the alarm button for it to switch to the thermometer mode.

we moved into a house with a woodburning stove. The house has some damp and after a few days of lighting the fire we weren’t feeling wonderful. Wondered if it was the damp but changed the stove seals as well and checked we were using it correctly. We still felt a bit rough and then saw the monitors. It registered zero for a while but then one day it went off – the CO had risen rapidly for no apparent reason. Whether this is what happened previously and led to us feeling the way we did we will never know, but we are glad to have made this purchase and reassured that should a sudden spike happen again we will at least know and can ensure we are safe.

This is a bit thicker than usual wall mounted alarms but I like the clear display and long life battery. Bought this one for my sister who would not hanged batteries in things if faulty so no concerns about having to do that with this one. The clear display is great a corridor thermometer too. The alert is clear and loud and flashing red light on the test ring too should hopefully do the job. While its hopefully never going to be needed it’s another of those essentials we all have to have.

Update – still working finr., But purchased another to replace my 70+ Pyronix alarm co2 detector after it failed after only four years. Rather than spend the same I bought this for less than 20 with a 7 year battery too. Worth the loss of app use for the savings.

Seems to be well designed, although I’ve not seen it with a non-zero reading yet. The temperature display is a nice extra, and it is useful for showing a ‘missed’ warning too. The ‘cumulative exposure’ reading seems like a great idea, reacting more quickly to a more dangerous level of CO (whilst still indicating that there is a potential problem). Well designed test mode too.

I recently purchased a second one of these as the recommendation was to renew after 7 years.

The old one still works fine and the new one is installed right next to it BUT the temperature readings are very different. (the older one reading 6degC higher). The postion of the two devices was reversed after a few days, but the variation continued.

I then introduced our greenhouse mercury max/min U-shaped thermometer (the sort you can accurately read on both the left (upside down) and the right) and left it there a couple of days. That one gave me a reading bang in the middle (ie 3degC above the new one, and 3degC below the old one).

The enclosed leaflet states that the temperature reading is accurate to + or – 2degC. Basically it gives a rough guide, but don’t hang your hat on it – 5degF either way is a lot imho.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersMy parents needed a new CO monitor and I urged them to go for the Fire Angel as I have two of these in my own home. Yes, you can buy cheaper ones but then you need to have the discipline to keep changing the batteries every year – after all the monitor is no good if the batteries are dead. With this one you get a sealed unit with a battery that lasts 7 years – so one less thing to think about throughout that time.

The unit is small and neat and comes with good instructions. Hopefully you’ll never need it but if you do, it’s good to know that it lets out a powerful blast of sound if you are in danger.

At my father’s suggestion, I’m going to pop one of our monitors in my luggage for my upcoming holiday. Staying in Air BnB properties in countries with lower safety standards than we might expect, it seems like a sensible precaution and these monitors are small and lightweight.

Golden Review Award: 72 From Our UsersThis is a handy little unit that will either fix to a wall with the supplied screws and plugs, or stand on a shelf with the built-in plastic feet. I liked that it was a sealed unit — so no messing about with AAA batteries. It has a claimed functional life of 7 years. This makes allowance for the recommended weekly alarm test. The instructions suggest that battery life may be longer than this, but the unit itself needs replacing in 7 years.

It is 5″ x 3″ and a little over an inch fat. The display has two modes — room temperature (?) and Carbon monOxide (CO) ppm. It only registers CO levels of 10 ppm and above.

From the instruction book: 35ppm is the maximum allowable concentration for any continuous 8 hour period for a healthy adult. The alarm sounds when 50 ppm is registered for 60-90 minutes. It sounds a bit sooner if the levels are 100 ppm and within 3 minutes if exposed to CO concentrations of 300 ppm or higher. 300 ppm is only life-threatening after several hours exposure.

The instruction book encourages annual testing of the sensor with a CO source (they suggest an incense stick) held under the sensor. You put the unit into a special test mode by holding down the test button.

To use you just pull out the clip that prevents battery discharge and it’s up and running. Then place the sensor between 1 and 3 metres from the potential source of CO. I have some old gas appliances so I wanted to make sure they were ok. The gas fire in the living room registered 0 ppm after several hours use. The kitchen was a different story. With two rings and the grill in use it registered, momentarily 13ppm, but stayed at 10 ppm for most of the time the burners were in use. While no CO would be best, the fact it registered small amounts suggests that it is functioning as required, so I’m quite happy with it.

Portable- shelf-worktop mounted so can be taken with you, even if in rented accommodation, staying with friends or relatives? or going on holiday? B&B’s, Holiday apartments? student accommodation?
I bought 2x (upstairs-Bedroom and downstairs-by boiler) and may buy a 3rd to go in my overnight travel bag (always got one wherever I stay then)
Can also be fitted to the wall (screws & wall fixings supplied)
They are down to an affordable price now so why take a chance?

This saved my life last night. The alarm went off at 03.30 this morning with a reading of 45ppm (45 co parts per million).
Codent (who have taken over from Transco) came out and capped my gas off.
I had already taken all the action i could to make myself safe before the gas engineer arrived. There is a very good chance i wouldn’t be here now without this tester!

Pleased that its a lot smaller than I expected. It has a wedge shaped piece underneath so you can stand it on a shelf without having to use a drill or fixings. It is light enough to use stick on velcro if you dont want to use screws.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersBought to replace an existing model which ran out of battery exactly 5 years after purchase with a five year guarantee, so hoping this will last 7 years in line with the current guarantee. Advantage of this over more expensive (and more heavily promoted) FireAngel models is that it records and shows level of CO escaping in ppm, rather than whether it has exceeded a safe limit – useful to know as very low level emissions are acceptable but could still need investigating.

This is a replacement for exactly the same model of detector I have been using for around the specified seven year product life (so long I have forgotten the exact date I purchased it) It has worked reliably through all these years and as designed recently started to beep to warn me it needed to be replaced. Great deign that ensures you replace it when required, unlike older plug in models that it was all to easy to forget to replace them when they were past their end of service life.

What I like about this particular carbon monoxide alarm is that it has been tested by Which magazine and it passed every test they put it through, which as you may know would have been extensive, you may be put off by the low price, but don’t be fooled! This alarm is just as good as the most expensive. Seven year battery gives you further piece of mind. Would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 91 From Our UsersI really like this Fireangel Carbon monoxide detector. I decided to buy it after seeing it in someone’s home. I like that it has a 7 year battery which is also the life span of the gadget. I got fed up of changing batteries in other carbon monoxide detectors that I had, and also not knowing if they were still efficient. I think this one is slightly more expensive than other detectors, but it gives you the current CO level in the room, providing there is any. Otherwise the reading is at 0. This gives you add peace of mind. It also tells you the room temperature. It comes with a very handy instruction manual which explains the different functions. It is portable and has a device to stop it working when in transit, which makes it very convenient to take on holidays. Very happy with this product.

Had this product 5 years. Testing now and then . Had no problems. Bought 3. 1 In The kitchen . 1 over each of the beds in each bedroom. Safety 1st. Red light flashing can be annoying but co2 is oderless, reasonably loud. So long as you don’t install long distance away you will hear it. This is why I have multiple ones installed. Never can be to safe when it comes to gas boilers.

Golden Review Award: 32 From Our UsersI renewed my carbon alarm from the same make because when I was having my boiler serviced, the engineer said that over a long period of the, they gradually get too dirty to work properly, so I chose this one as FireAngel was the make of my old one. It’s much better, more symbols, love having the temperature reading and a little green light flashes every five minutes to let you know it’s working. It says when the battery is running low a symbol will appear instead of that annoying bleeping sound. It’s a peace of mind that doesn’t cost a lot but a life saver if my boiler or oven ever goes wrong.

In trying it out the unit is easy to use , good loud alarm , no set up or complicated instructions , read zero in the house until its next to the running gas cooker which puts it up to 30 odd ( normal for it to do so ) I have now popped it out of the way on a window sill near the boiler and its happily not reading anything

The display is handy when you don’t want to wait for the LED light to flash, or press the test button. Shows you, via a line graph, how much (if any) CO is in the atmosphere. Turned up well within the specified time and both that I ordered work a treat. One downstairs and one in a bedroom above the garage where the boiler is. My one and only gripe is the delivery company Hermes who, walked past a car in the drive, up to the door and posted a card (without even knocking the door) saying the package was left in our bin! It just so happened our daughter opened the door and said, “we’re in!”

I bought this to make sure the log burner in the shed office I put in the garden wasn’t going to murder me while I work. I’m not dead yet, so thats a win.

On a more serious note, it has registered traces of carbon monoxide which were present while I had the log burner door open. It the CO level wasn’t enough to trigger the alarm, but it was good to see it registered on the display.

The thing that made me give it 5 stars was the alternative mode It has, which lets you see the temperature in the room its in.

Other info: the alarm is bloody loud, and it seems well made, and not as ugly as it could be.

Overall: Amazon offered at a fraction of the price of B&Q yet the same product.

Pros: The manual is actually quite good for mounting and commissioning it. We tested it with an incense stick and it worked as it should. Neat tidy device. It was the long sealed battery life that sold it to me.

Cons: Digits on display not very big. The reason you buy it is if you have a boiler in a bedroom so I’m not sure why it has such a bright flashing light that has the potential to keep you awake.

The CO Alarm is attractive looking and the readings are clear and easy to understand. I like the way that you do not have to have it fixed to the wall and so it is easy to take with you if you go away. The disabling pin is easy to reinsert and so it makes it easy to take with no chance of it going off accidentally. It is a must have, but one that you hope you never have cause to need!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersJust purchased this through Amazon, great price and extremely quick delivery. I don’t often write reviews, but after seeing another review regarding the temperature differences between differing digital thermometers and the fact this CO2 unit has one, I thought I’d try out my own testing.

I activated the Fireangel CO-9D in the kitchen. The temperature read out displayed 20 degrees C. By contrast, my 5 year old kitchen radio controlled digital clock with digital temperature display, indicated a full 5 degree difference higher than the CO2 alarm. After an hour of letting the CO2 alarm settle, the temperature display had not altered from the 20 degree reading, so I moved it to my airing cupboard just to check that the temperature sensor was working. It rose by 4 degrees C within a few minutes. I then decided to carry out an outside temperature test, so I moved the CO2 alarm outside and placed it on the patio table with the kitchen clock and my 16 year old Oregon Scientific weather station which is usually permanently positioned in the conservatory. I left the 3 units outside, all positioned facing the same way. After 45 minutes, the CO2 alarm registered 18 degrees C, which matched precisely with a very accurate weather station app on my phone that uses the nearest local weather station where I live and it also matched the temperature display in my car, which had been sat outside all day. My kitchen clock and Oregon weather station didn’t fair so well, registering an outside final temperature difference of 4 degrees higher than the Fireangel CO2 alarm.

All rather boring I know, but I can only deduce, that the temperature sensor components in the Fireangel CO2 alarm are far more accurate than my other devices, which as I pointed out, are considerably older than the CO2 alarm. One would therefore hope, that the more important CO2 sensor is equally as accurate and of course, I hope I never have to find out! So my point is, if like me you have more than one digital temperature device and they are all displaying different temperatures to the Fireangel CO-9D should you purchase one and you’re concerned at the difference in readings, if you can be bothered, I’d carry out a similar test to the one I did so you can form your own conclusion. I’m confident in my home testing, that my Fireangel is correct.

Asthetically, the unit is pleasing to look at and far better than the old CO2 alarm circa 2007, which I’ve just disposed of. For peace of mind, I’d recommend buying one, especially if you don’t get your boiler serviced regularly, i.e. annually, and I know plenty of people who haven’t had their boilers serviced for years citing the the old adage that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! which of course is not the best course of action! I had my own central heating boiler service just two weeks ago in case anyone is wondering! It’s also great that the unit is completely portable, just remember not to throw away the pin that isolates the internal battery when reinstalled.

I bought this particular unit as it generally has great reviews. Buying this unit through Amazon, was also considerably cheaper than many other High Street outlets. Anyway, I’m happy with my purchase.

Excellent device. I have one in my garage and it’s sensitive enough to trigger if I run my car engine for less than a minute. Yes, you can get cheaper ones, but there are strong rumours (from Which? magazine) that the very cheap ones don’t work at all, and many of the mid-priced ones need to be replaced after as little as a year. With a seven-year life on this, it’s much better value in the long term. I would say the alarm could be a little louder – it’s absolutely fine for me in the garage, but if you were relying on it to wake you at night, especially from a different room, then maybe it should be louder. It’s certainly nothing like as piercing as our smoke alarms.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersMy boiler recently developed a fault with the pressure dropping and therefore the central heating failing to fire up so we had to resort to using our gas fire in the living room (which is usually used less than once a year!) to take off the immediate chill. When we had it repaired the engineer mentioned having carbon monoxide testers with us having 3 young children in the house.

It is one of those things you think about and then forget in the hustle and bustle of daily life so I decided while it was fresh in my memory that I would order two. I have one placed in my kitchen by the door into the garage as our boiler is housed in the garage. And I have another near the gas fire in our living room.

So far they are both reading as 0 levels of CO. I decided to get Fireangel ones as these are the brand of smoke alarms our local firebrigade fit for us when we had a home safety check pre-kids! I’ll be having them come out to do another to make sure we have them in the correct places and to get an up to date home safety check now that we have 3 kiddies to worry about in an emergency too.

I needed to replace the British Gas supplied monitor as it reached its end of life. I wanted a cheaper alternative and also wanted a display to be able to see if there were any triggers when no one was home etc.

The product is well made and looks cool. I did find the beep when changing settings rather loud, but I can live with that. we tested it as per the instructions and it showed the presence of Co2 so I assume it works, it has shown 0 ever since, which is great. I won’t be able to update this review if it doesn’t work. however I have every confidence it would. so I have piece of mind knowing its working and there are no issues.

This can be mounted using supplied screws and rawlplugs or will sit neatly on a shelf. It needs about 2 inches depth of shelf to be used free standing as it leans back slightly. if used in this way and as it will be quite high it does mean that the screen can’t be seen at a glance but if within reach they can be checked if you want when doing your weekly test. It comes with very full instructions regarding the siting of the device which is important as there can be areas where air doesn’t circulate and therefore the sensor will not pick up smoke etc

End of last year the fireangel was showing/detecting low trace (non life threatening) of Carbon Monoxide in my sons room. I then phoned British Gas to come and check the boiler. Later that day it was found to be very slowly leaking carbon monoxide and was therefore condemned.

Who knows…. if we didn’t have one of these in my sons room it may have been too late before we realised the boiler was spewing toxic gas.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this to monitor carbon monoxide in a room which contains a gas fire. I liked the idea that it had a battery which should last the lifetime of 6 to 7 years – there are other devices on the market which offer lifetime of 10 years but I though that replacement after 7 years was reasonable. It is supplied with screws for wall-fitting but I didn’t really want to look at it so I have it free-standing on a shelf. I also liked the display of CO concentration in parts per million which I prefer to just having an alarm sounding. On receipt I found the instructions easy to understand and one of the first things I did was to set up the unit in its test mode and check out the operation with the recommended burning joss stick – everything worked as described which gave me confidence that it would actually operate in a life-threatening situation. The battery is activated on first use by removing a wire jumper which should be retained in case it is necessary to deactivate the device. I thought that was a good idea so that it could be taken away and used for example in holiday accommodation if required.

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersI bought this neat little alarm 18 months ago for my elderly parents and chose it because it had a 7 yr battery life and gave actual readings of the levels of CO. My dad has since passed away, leaving my 88yr old mum on her own. This alarm went off loudly one day and fortunately mum had the sense to call British Gas. Half an hour later a man with a CO meter arrived and informed her that every room in her bungalow was full of Carbon Monoxide (CO) at fairly high levels. Her gas boiler was fine …. the culprit was a generator standing on the drive near the bungalow used for 3 hrs by workmen that morning, clearly pumping fumes into the bungalow through the many air bricks at the front so that the CO seeped up through floor boards. Br Gas man was great, opened every door and window and stayed with mum for ages until meter readings back to normal. My mother knows this little alarm saved her life. Worth every penny 10 times over. You can’t smell or taste CO, it’s a silent killer. Without this alarm mum would have died in her sleep. Get one today …. for yourself and your elderly relatives.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis detector arrived promptly and was easy to set up, the instructions are really clear and I test it every week. All very simple and I would recommend it. Very useful to know that it is constantly measuring for Carbon Monoxide in the air and you can check back over weeks to see what measurements have been recorded if any. Our old tester just sounded an alarmand we are still not certain if Carbon Monoxide was present, for which we had to have the gas cut off, boiler tested and replace some pipework or whether the tester was faulty. With this one you know if lower levels of Carbon Monoxide are present before any alarm sounds at all.

Carbon Monoxide is bad news in the home, and so if you’re looking at this review you already know how important having a reliable detector is. The beauty of the Fireangel is that nobody can pinch the battery, so for its seven year lifespan it ought to be ‘tamper-proof’. It’s an attractive unit, with a little LCD display that (on mine at least) shows the same thing all the time – and you want this to be the case – i.e. 0ppm CO detected. That’s the happy place. If it’s reading something other than that, you may have a problem. Ironically, it’s difficult to determine just how sensitive its detection circuitry is, so when you buy a detector like this you are placing some trust in it. For that reason, I felt it best not to skimp, and would recommend you buy something like this – tried and tested.

What I like is that being a sealed unit it has a given lifespan. Those where the batteries can be replaced always leave that bit of doubt as to whether the’re really as effective after many years of use. I like the way it also warns of non dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, this has the advantage of proving that it works & allerting to the beginning of poptential hazzards. I purchased a Winston carbon monoxide meter that seemed to give erroneous readings after six months – which forced me to buy another model to verify whether the Winston was, in fact, alerting me to a dire situation or just erroneous.

Having received the Fireangel model I put it in test mode and burned some paper towel and it registered carbon monoxide. In addition several times when parking my car with the exhaust to the garage I’ve noticed the Fireangel detect carbon monoxide. Then return to zero when the air cleared.

I’m a lot more confident of the functionality of the Fireangel than the Winston. Thus I give this product a high rating as I want to encourage others to use a model that seems to work rather than take a risk on a cheaper product that very well may not.

These are really excellent and i would recommend to anyone; we have two.

One is in a bedroom where our boiler is installed and shows a steady, reassuring 0 reading. The other is near our coal effect gas fire. I had been concerned about possible CO and sure enough the unit showed a reading of 43! Fire was turned off and serviced leading to a reading of 0. From time to time weather conditions lead to non-0 readings so we turn off the fire and keep ourselves safe.

Turning on the fire for the first time this winter the reading was 23 so I turned it off. The next time it was 0 and has remained so.

The clarity of the display is excellent. No batteries is good too – they last for years and tell you when it’s time to get new units.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is an incredibly simple device. When it arrives, you simply pull out the plastic tab that isolates the battery and it works. Pushing the button switches the display between temperature and carbon monoxide measurement. The button also checks that the alarm is working. Locate the device in an appropriate place and job done.

The batteries are not replaceable, but the device is guaranteed for 7 years. This seems reasonable for the price, especially if you are lucky enough to catch it in the Lightening Deals as I did. But to be honest, if you have gas appliances or working fireplaces in your home, what price do you put on peace of mind?

Never bought a CO monitor before. A good unit if you want to see CO levels rather than just wanting an alarm to sound if CO rises. The alarm monitors how much CO over time and calculates accumulative exposure. That’s what I call sophisticated. It is also easy to set up and use.

It is a sealed unit with lifetime battery (5 years?) which starts only when you pull out the blank. Great to be able to see running CO levels (mostly zero of course) and room temperature if you want. Will also hold 14 day peak level which is very useful. We had concerns about the neighbour’s boiler outside our bathroom window, but no evidence of any problem as yet.

A small niggle is that to look at the stored history or switching to temperature display involves going through the combined function check with the mighty loud alarm test – good that the alarm is loud but the wife doesn’t like it when I do it. There is also a momentary bright LED flash every minute to indicate it is working. We had the monitor beside the bed and the wife was disturbed by the flashing in the night. It didn’t bother me and was a small price to pay for peace of mind while sleeping. Easy to fix with a piece of tape or move to another location if it bothers you.

I love this CO detector. Most importantly it actively shows the carbon monoxide concentration – unlike some competitor devices (First Alert) that only show the number if an alarm is triggered. I also like the fact that you can also show room temperature which is a nice value-add. And the alarm is very loud (unlike First Alert alarm which is pretty quiet).

The small negatives are the fact it beeps very loudly as you push the button to switch between CO detector mode and temperature mode – and the flashing light. I realise that the flashing light is there to show the batteries are still working, but it’s really annoying in a completely dark room. It’s the same flashing light that you will notice in most hotel rooms, so I guess most people find it fine – but I would prefer to stick to just that chirping bird noise as the battery gets low – or just flashing light when the battery is about to die rather than when the battery is fine. However, I plan to get round to painting some tip-ex on the clear plastic which will block out that light so quite easy to fix that problem.

This device was purchased after a careful review of all comments on CO detectors on Amazon, and I’m satisfied that this is the best device out there.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis item has dual functions namely a carbon monoxide alarm and a thermometer. I would have awarded 5 stars except the thermometer is only accurate within 2 degrees centigrade as confirmed by the manufacturer. Although the main function is as a CO alarm I believe that either the user should be given the means to calibrate the temperature display or the feature should be deleted. In its present form it is only a general indication. It is recommended to be wall mounted using the wall plugs and screws provided. The screws slot into the back of the unit. The spacing between the screws must be accurate (a template is provided) otherwise it will not hang on the wall. I suggest one plug and screw should be fitted first then a careful measurement taken to make sure the second plug and screw are going to line up in the correct position before drilling the hole in the wall. Apart from these comments it is a fine alarm, neat in appearance and should last for 7 years as covered by the guarantee.

Given 5 stars based upon products feel and appearance, have only tested the alarm as it hasn’t (yet) gone off in anger.
Seems well built and was easy to set up. Really needs to be fixed to something, rather than just stood up on a shelf. Very easy to set up, just pull out the battery guard and there you are. Nice size digital read out – only used if carbon monoxide present other wise gives a temperature reading which is handy. Supposed to last for 7 years on the supplied batteries, we’ll see (I always write the date installed on this type of item – anal I know). Very comprehensive paper instruction manual supplied with this item. Siren seems nice and loud as well as quite piercing, think anyone in the vicinity would be aware if it went off and difficult to mistake for anything else, fridge door open for example.

After thinking I could smell fumes from our multi-fuel stove in the living room, I wanted a small, discreet sensor to show if there was any carbon monoxide leakage. At first I baulked at paying 20+ when smoke alarms cost much less but these units are top quality and very well designed. They show clearly if you have even very low levels of carbon monoxide and store readings so you can review them. There is a built in alarm which thankfully in our case has never sounded, as there is no indication of CO leakage. I got two and put one near our oil-fired CH boiler and again no readings of CO. All-in-all, they are great for peace of mind and possibly a life saver.

There are various types of Carbon Monoxide (CO) detectors on the market, but this one has to be one of the best out there. Even the CO Angels website (an organisation campaigning to raise awareness of CO poisoning) have partnered up with Fire Angel to reduce the incidence of CO poisoning.

Gives clear instructions where to fit it. Looks modern and trendy, and even has a thermometer function so it can be the thermometer in your room as well. The digital readout is a useful feature as it will show you the reading. But one brilliant bonus is that it will record if it detected any CO in your absence. Have you ever wondered if CO could be building up in your property when you’re out at work or anything? It may be an early warning of a faulty system that you wouldn’t have known about if you weren’t there when it actually alarmed.

And there no battery to look after or worry about. So all you need to do is give it a periodic clean and test.

I recommend this item with one caveat: If you are going to put it in room you sit in you will have an additional consideration to complicate locating it in the room. It ‘strobes’ a single bright flash every minute or so from an LED to let you know it is working OK. In general this is useful conformation, but in a living room where it can be seen in your peripheral vision it is annoying. An obvious solution such as standing a card or object in front of it is not recommended as it can restrict the flow of air around the detector and impair its ability to function. I’ve resorted to turning it sideways on, but that means I can’t see the display, which includes a useful thermometer function.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have read most of the reviews and agree with them all about the product being good. I have given it a 5 star as i have no issues with the product, nor do i question its reliability. However, i am unable to compare it to anything else as i have never needed a CO detector before. I recently purchased a brand new flueless gas stove for my living room hoping it would be cheaper to use than my electric heaters. The stove burns off a butane gas cylinder hence my reason for purchasing this unit.
My friend has a detector but not a digital one. It just goes off if the levels are high so seeing a ppm reading on the unit can be un-nerving for those who do not fully understand levels of ppm.

The only error is the manual suggests a 65mm diameter for the holes (if mounting on a wall) but i would recommend measuring the distance between the holes in the unit as 65mm is too short

My only issue is that my ppm reading was 0ppm up to 3 hours after turning my heater on, then went up to 10ppm, then went back down to 0ppm. After an hour it went up to 12ppm then to 11ppm then 10ppm then 0ppm. This happens within a matter of minutes. I have no clue as to why that should be? Does anyone else have this?
