Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWhen a piercing alarm went off the other day I had no idea what it was… something in the kitchen was ringing, but what?? Then I found it, long forgotten, the CO monitor has sat unattended on a shelf for 5 and a half years. The display showed CO was at 200ppm. The gas engineer I called out to look at the boiler tells me I could have been unconscious in 10 mins.

It’s really good to have a digital display. On opening door and windows I could see the CO levels go back down to zero. And on closing the door I could see the CO climbing again to 20, 25 ppm…

I’m ordering another one now… (well, the new/current model) as the existing monitor has a layer of kitchen grease on it. Seems a small price to pay for safety.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...5yrs later it saved my life

Known brand, reasonably priced, works straight out of the box. Our chimney sweep mentioned it was a good brand so all good so far
Only had it for two months so no idea of longevity hence 4 stars.

I purchased this product because I didn’t have a Carbon Monoxide Alarm. This particular product is very light and easy to install. In fact no installation is required as it can be easily sited on top of a cabinet. What I particularly like about it is that it is reasonably priced and suitable for placing in a confined space. I would definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of buying this sort of thing.

Connected smoke and heat alarms are now a legal requirement. My electrician installed the kit and I had already purchased this one. It does not require installation, it is a stand alone unit. She said that it was an excellent unit, at a good price and stylish.
It sends out a light pulse to let you know it is working. For peace of mind it is priceless.
    Highly recommended.
The markets are flooded with cheaper options, some may not be of the required safety levelI won’t take a risk, what price do you put on safety equipment?

A carbon monoxide detector is an essential safety precaution if you have a gas fire in your living room. It will let out a shrill noise if your chimney gets blocked, for example by a bird’s nest. Although this is very unlikely to happen, it is better to err on the safe side! This carbon monoxide detector has the advantage that it doubles up as a room thermometer, which is useful if you are trying to control your expenditure on gas! The drawback with this unit is that it cannot be opened and the battery cannot be replaced. The battery lasts about 7 years and the unit will start to bleep forcing you to order a replacement from Amazon.

Easy to install, stands well on the book shelf. Looks good, can’t comment on battery life as only had them a little while, but hopefully good. Bought to replace old monitors that we’ve had for about 7yrs.

I got this to replace my last detector that kept alarming for no reason ( i have a back up downstairs) so I ordered this one for the display as well as the alarm. I have had fire angel products before and they are very good. Would recomend this unit. It sits next to the boiler cupboard looks nice.

I got this item as it is now essential for the renewal of the Boat Safety Certificate. The engineer who carried out my test likes this type of display as it gives warning of lower levels of CO than is triggered by an audible warning alone.

I’m about to buy a replacement for the one I bought early in 2015. After almost seven years of use the battery is still okay, since buying this monitor we have only bought CO2 and smoke detectors with sealed batteries. It is comforting to know that we don’t have to keep replacing batteries, and as sensors only have a lifespan of 7-10 years nothing is wasted, and we don’t find ourselves in a situation where we have a functioning battery, but the sensor has failed. We have tested that the monitor works on a few occassions, perhaps not as often as we should have done, though the battery has been tested on a regular basis. Looking at what is currently available I don’t see anything better, so have ordered an identical replacement.

I bought this to replace previous model purchased in 2012 which has just failed having out-lived advertised battery life. I can vouch for it’s longevity then. It sits unobtrusively on a shelf. Omits a loud ring when tested and I sleep easy at night secure in the knowledge that it is doing its job. I like the display which can also show the room temperature. I have no problem with recommending this as a fine security product.

A very simple product and easy to install / use. This is the second one I have had, the previous one having a dying battery. This is my main criticism in that the battery does not last the claimed 10 years and is not replaceable, in common with several Fireangel products. In fact, anyone handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron could change the battery. The only reason I didn’t is because I could only purchase batteries in a pack of 10 so it was cheaper to replace the whole alarm!

Difficult to be positive about something {2 of} you are forced to buy when you don’t particularly want to.
Have a gas boiler which is separate from any living area and an open fire.
But the alarms are not expensive and are easy to install and understand.

After my last gas boiler service the engineer advised me I needed a new CO alarm. British Gas wanted 67 to install a new one so I decided to buy this one instead. It’s very simple. Just remove the little bit of plastic strip and it works. Screws are supplied but as I don’t have a drill I used Gorilla Tape to attach it to the top of the door to the boiler room. This is not recommended to attach it to wallpaper. The instructions for use are very clear and simple. As it has a digital display you can check the reading easily.

I needed a device that gave a visual percentage reading of CO as I use a portable butane fuelled gas fire to heat my home. I too wanted a device that was made & sold by a UK manufacturer that carried all the relevant safety certification to conform with UK health & safety regulations. I wanted & needed that assurance to have the confidence in the unit to be able to detect CO at a very early level before it became toxic & a danger to life so I could start to ventilate my living area before it was too late.

This unit does all of the above.

Wasn’t sure about this item as has never bought one. On arrival I realised I would need to make some holes in the wall as it needs to be held up by two nails/screws. Holes in the wall…something else I’ve never had to do. However, I had also bought some Suguru in the same parcel and thought I’d try to make some “nails”. And what do you know? It worked:-) The boiler engineer came round the other day and asked if we had a monoxide alarm and I pointed up as he then proceeded to push the test button on it. Holding my breath I waited for it to fall away from the Suguru nails….but no Mr boiler engineer was happy that it worked and I was happy it stayed on the wall.

A great carbon monoxide monitor. I’ve been using it for about a year now and it works (you can test it by running your car for a minute in a garage with the door closed, but just for the test, then open and air asap!) and seems strong enough to carry around and use where you want.

Like some other reviewers, the first one I was sent was faulty out of the box. It read high levels of CO almost immediately and the alarm went off within hours of activation but the emergency gas man could find any CO. He said it was not uncommon for alarms to be faulty out of the box and even the brand new 2000 monitor he had picked up the day before had been faulty. Anyway, my replacement came quickly without any hassle and it’s working fine. It’s small and more discrete than my old one. My advice, if you buy one, is to activate it in the morning when you’re going to be home all day, so that if it does go off because of a fault it won’t happen at bedtime and you won’t have to stay up waiting for the gas man (which is what happened to me!) .

I’ve always had smoke alarms in my house for many years but after talking to a registered gas fitter who recommended I also use a carbon monoxide alarm as I have a gas fire and gas cooker, he told me you cannot smell Carbon monoxide and if there was a build up of the gas and you fell asleep there is a chance you would wake up ever or you could suffer serious long term physical damage, this unit makes a LOUD high pitched noise to alert you so I decided for what little they cost safety comes first and they do last for quite a few years as well!

After a little mishap with leaving a battery charger on overnight to try and resurrect an old car battery (top tip, don’t do that in the kitchen), it was time to invest in an early warning system that would warn of his next bout of stupidity. I’ve learned the hard way that Carbon Monoxide alarms also detect Hydrogen, Brucey bonus.
Amazon offered a great price on a range of alarms, I chose this one as it has a digital readout of the CO levels which is a nice feature. Amazon delivered super fast as usual, and within minutes both alarms were activated and functioning, couldn’t be easier. I put one by the boiler and one by the log burner, it’s been nice to see that both are reading zero CO.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is the 3rd one of these that I have bought – 1 being for a relative. Nice little piece and easy to set up and use/read. Has a green light which flashes once every minute to let you know that it is working. Unfortunately one of ours malfunctioned shortly after we bought it – the loudness of the alarm is very good and I’d say would wake up even the heaviest sleeper. Ours was blasting through the house and a red light was flashing rapidly on the front. We immediately opened all doors and windows and contacted the emergency number for potential carbon monoxide leaks. The house was found to be safe as were our neighbours and it was put down to a simple malfunction. I did have the alarm positioned right next to a vanilla reed diffuser though and the alarm smelt very strongly of vanilla. The engineer said he didn’t think that would be the cause but could not rule it out. Just a word of warning there for when you are placing your alarms. Overall I would recommend these to all.

We have used a multifuel stove for a year, but 2 weeks ago our CO detectors both sounded their alarms! We have one in the kitchen (gas boiler) – this model & the other in the living area (model with no display).
The experience was in all honesty, quite frightening & explained why I had felt so unwell for about 3 days. Without the 2 Fire Angel detectors, all 3 of us plus 4 pets might eventually have become a statistic, without even realising it.
    Solution:
    1. Stopping use of stove
    2. Replacing front room detector with this model with digital display/visual early warning
    3. Contacting stove service/repair engineer, who is due to visit
If you have a gas or solid fuel appliance, these really are a must. I can only speak from personal eperience & hopefully that explains all.

Visually the device is very pleasing to the eye. Build quality is excellent. It can be fixed to a wall or can freestand. Apparently the battery (built in) should last about 7 years; after which, you are encouraged, for safety reasons, to discard the unit and purchase another one. The display is clear – as is the instruction manual. The alarm 86db is loud enough, providing that there is not too much background noise.

Test each week is strongly advised by FireAngel.

Instructions to place for fitting are clear but some households will find it difficult to place if wanting to hide. This is a sealed unit, there are no batteries to change (or forget to change). I think it’s a 7 year life then you have to buy another.
As much as I hate sending devices to landfill unnecessarily when it comes to safety products like this, I’d much rather renew it with a complete new device every seven years than run the risk of relying on an old or faulty unit.
It does have a little LED on it that flashes every now and again so need to bear that in mind if it’s going in a bedroom or near a TV.

Arrived promptly and was well packaged. Easy enough to install with simple instruction. I bought the one that does not need replacement batteries and is expected to last at least 7 years. I hope this is the case. The only thing is the alarm is not very loud and as it’s in the integrated garage I’m unsure if I’ll hear it if it goes off. The smoke alarms are very loud so I expected this to be similar. Otherwise doesn’t seem bad value for money.

Highly recomend this model as it gives you a metric to measure background level CO levels, not just a basic alarm.
I got 2 of them, acting as double-checks for each other cos CO is not something to mess with, not that I don’t have trust in the device.

Not made in China, hooray. Getting the device on to 2 drilled and plugged screws is dependant on how accurately you can drill. I always find one hole is off centre which makes mounting harder.
Seven years battery life so will not have to do this for some time. My last one did 7 years and 9 months.

Only got it yesterday but seems decent enough. Nice clear display with either temperature or CO content. My only complaint came from when I tried to mount it. I intended to screw it to the front of one of my kitchen cabinets. Pre drilled the holes, started putting the first screw in when the head snapped off leaving the body of the screw stuck in the cupboard. The second screw did exactly the same. If you want to mount this anywhere, do NOT use the screws provided.

Cant comment on durability or effectiveness because I’ve only had them for a few weeks and they are a safety precaution.
Top marks are for the styling and LCD display.
Fire Angel are a top brand in this area.

Nice looking piece of equipment but the thermometer is not accurate, reading 4 degrees from correct, so only 4 stars, but then again I am more interested in its intended ability.

This is a life saving device. It is very accurate and everyone should have a few of these in their home. I like the digital display so I can see if there’s any trace of carbon monoxide and I can sort it out before the level gets to dangerous.

I live in a block of flats and one flat had a boiler that was intermittently emitting carbon monoxide. The gas company and fire brigade came out on 4 different occasions and could never track down which flat was the source. Thanks to the display on this detector and it’s ability to record peak readings, I was able to isolate which boiler was causing the problem. I strongly recommend spending a little more to get the digital display.

Used to monitor CO while camping as I use a lot of petrol/paragon lamps/cookers. Perfect bit of kit, constant read out of CO in parts per million and it can be switched on and off via the activation tag. With 7 years battery life this bit of kit should last me for the rest of my camping life.

I really like the fact you can see the level of fumes in the room, mine has stayed on zero with an open fire alight. There is a test function that shows how quickly the numbers can rise when its exposed to fumes. The temperature display is also a good feature

Excellent monitor, which picks up on the smallest amounts of CO in the atmosphere. Used it in our campervan, where it gave clear, accurate readings of issues relating to the leisure battery ‘gassing’. Gives you a good indication of the extent of the problem, even when levels are not high enough to trigger the alarm. Much more useful than versions which don’t include a digital readout. Highly recommended.

I have used fire angel alarms for years hence this choice. I was pleased to see it given a replace date as many people do not realise that even with a functioning battery they cease to function after a few years

I have mine on the side of a cupboard, as shown in the photo (read the instructions about where it should / must not be positioned). It’s next to my smoke alarm and I think that for what they are, they both look fine. I think this brand makes the nicest looking and most straightforward products.
I would recommend this brand and this product.

    Looks fine

Had it 7 years (bought in 2013, and will need probably changing before this year is over), not only has it been faultless, including warning me when I charged my car battery in my room one time, unknowingly aware of the fumes that causes, it also has proved to be a great battery. Additionally I also use it as my house thermometer. 100% recommend this, even if it cost 3 times as much, an absolute life save

Seems to do what it says, nice and compact and attached to the wall without issue with supplied fittings. I have carried out a test using an incense stick as mentioned in the instruction and device went out as it should.

Unable to comment on battery life but a previous version of the fire angel detector lasted the time specified so hoping for the same.

    Small and Sturdy

Ok so I won’t really know if this works unless it actually works so this review is really only going to put a couple points out.

The switching from CO display to temperature is annoying as you have to press the ‘test’ button which obviously emits the alarm sound. So don’t think there is a simple button to change displays !

Temp on mine is overrated by 1 degree so it’s not far out when compared to room thermometer

One other thing – they should really have given a simple double sided foam pad install option as it’s not really something I’d like to screw to the wall..

Other than that it’s a good unit and hopefully will work when needed to !

Looked at lots of carbon monoxide alarms before setling for the fire angel CO-90 as i especially like the digital display and the ease of fitting. Backplate makes it easy to install and the digital read out is easy to understand rather than just lights and checking manual to see what they correlate to. Good products and good price

bought this a few months ago as the previous brand in our house just kept running out of battery too quickly, this sits on the window in the kitchen and is great, nice and loud for the test alarm and gives real time temperature of the kitchen.

The device has a 7yr self contained battery, and the old one has passed its 7 yr life span. The replacement will be held in reserve pressed into service, when the old one displays the battery warning sign. I will possibly post a further comment when the original one gives up the ghost. Its nice to have a device, that does what it says on the tin.

A must for home safety in my home so this is a great buy. There are cheaper ones out there but for CO detectors, price is really immaterial. safety comes way ahead of price. I recommend this. Easy to set up. An easy test mode and it can be deactivatd when not required (so read the maual before throwing any items away that come with the detector!)

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis gets a which best buy, (important, because there are some out there, even on Amazon, that are frankly dangerous, in that they don’t report dangerous levels of CO) It wasn’t overpriced either.

It does have a display which helpfully displays temperature most of the time. This is handy, because if there’s sufficient Carbon Monoxide about that you are going to pay attention to this alarm, you really shouldn’t be hanging around reading the CO PPM ( Parts Per Million) display., making it otherwise pretty pointless. But it displays temperature too, so that’s OK. (although for the cautiously curious, it does allow you to ‘test’ it – if you attempt to do so, please do it outside!)
So pleased with it. Sealed for life battery – that apparently lasts 5 years, which is also good as this is the expected useful life of the CO sensor or indeed, any CO sensor -they get ‘poisoned’ eventually, and will no longer correctly reflect the CO level.
That’s tedious, as you need to replace them – but this ‘sealed for life’ approach means that it won’t let you carry on using it after it is no longer safe to do so. Remember folks – carbon monoxide is odourless, colourless, and binds to the blood cells better than oxygen – so it kills real quick, and it takes a long time for the sub lethal effects to pass.
If this thing squeals, get out, stay out – don’t muck about..
