Ergonomica, di semplice utilizzo, ha suscitato la curiosit e l’interesse di tutti quelli a cui l’ho mostrata.

I bought this device to trace a building walls humidity since the humid part of a wall will have a lower temperature than the rest of it. I found that the numerical readings of the thermometer show this difference in tenths of a degree Centigrade but the color display of the device is not accurate enough. May be I should choose a device with a higher level of display FLIR TG165 Spot Thermal Camera accuracy but theese do not fit my budget.

I like it. Bought it to look for cold air coming through certain areas in my home. I use it more to look at my dogs and ghosts that may lurk in the darkness.

A good price and product for a less powerful Thermal Imager. I use this in my investigative work in old homes and in the woods. Easy to learn, and easy to download saved images into a computer with the supplied USB connecting cord.
Im Gert befindet sich ein leider nicht wechselbarer LiIon-Akku, bei dem man nur hoffen kann, dass er die Lebensdauer der brigen Gertekomponenten erreicht oder berschreitet.
Im brigen tut das Gert das, was es soll, und arbeitet sehr zuverlssig, um z.B. Wrmelecks an Tren und Fenstern aufzuspren.

Great tool, very handy in our frozen bakery plant. I can very quickly check insulation, leaks, air curtain performance, product cooling effectiveness, electrical component condition, and on and on. It is one of the best new tools that I have purchased in many years.
good image and useful at short distances. Spec is 10 meters max which seems a little over the top. Features are good and simple to use. Some slight image deviation on temperature so gave it 4 but catches up in a couple of seconds

Werde diese Rezension in zwei Teile gliedern: 1. Meinung, 2. Anleitungen.
1. Meinung:
Dieses Gert ist perfekt. In dieser Preis-Leistungsklasse erfllt es alle Anforderungen. Meiner Meinung nach sollte es in keinen Haushalt fehlen und in Industriebereich berhaupt nicht!
Es kommt mit 8GB SD-Karte, die werdet ihr nie voll kriegen weil die Photos ca 77kB gro sind. Die Batterie hlt unglaublich lang(8stunden sicher wie angegeben), falls Sie die Kamera tglich fr ein oder zwei Photos haben, hlt der Akku die ganze Woche oder mehr.
Auf Flir Seite gibt es ein Software ist aber nich geeignet fr die TG165, vielleicht das andere SW das etwas kostet… leider.
Auflsung: Gut genug! Habe schon mit professionellen Flir Wrmebildkameras um ca 5000 gearbeitet und fr Problemsuche wrde ich die TG165 immer wieder kaufen. Die Gerte in hherer Preisklasse sind Professionelle Gerte die in spezifischen Bereichen spezielle Anforderungen erfllen mssen(z.Bsp. Gasemissionen bei der Verbrennung, wo man die Temperaturen ber das ganze Gebiet kennen muss). Fr Problem suche und einfache Temperaturmessungen macht die TG165 das Perfekt.
Gut sind die zwei Laser Punkte die uns genau zeigen in welchen BEREICH zwischen dem Wir messen.
Die TG165 ist kein Spielzeug oder Gert mit dem man sich die Temperatur auf der Stirn messen sollte… man knnte es machen aber es ist fr professionelleren Gebrauch gemacht.
Die Bewertungen hier auf Amazon sind viel zu schlecht wegen schlechter Nutzung des Gert. Die TG165 macht genau das was man mit ihr macht, und bei IR Strahlung gibt es sehr viele Parameter im Hintergrund die man bercksichtigen soll.
Fazit:
1A Gert, man muss nur wissen wie es anzuwenden.
2. Einige Anleitungen um es richtig anzuwenden und Sie dann nicht Rezessionen schreiben das es “teilweise” Perfekt ist.
-Emmissionskoeffizient:
werdet Ihr fast immer falsch haben um die T auf 0.2C genau zu messen, weil das ein Koeffizient ist der abhngig ist von Material, Oberflchenrauheit, Verschmutzung der Oberflche… 0.95 ist manuell eingestellt was eine gute Nherung fr meiste Objekte ist um es auf 0.5-2C genau zu messen. Bitte sucht im Internet nach dem Koeffizient falls Sie unreallistische Messwerte kriegt. Das wird euch in einen Bereich von 1-2C genau bringen.
Um nach einen genauen Koeffizient zu suchen, knnt ihr das Objekt/Oberflche auf eine bekannte Temperatur aufheizen z.Bsp. Metalen Kochtopf mit siedenden Wasser = T ca 100C. Man stellt dan den E_Koeffizient in der Kamera so ein das die Messung ca 99-100C entspricht. Metal z.Bsp. zw. 0.10-0.30.
-Wrmebrcken:
Mann kann die schn sehen, und auch messen.
Im Haus funktioniert es Problemlos. Auen mit einigen Physikalischen Einschrnkungen. Sie Sollten nich den Himmel im Bildbereich haben! Es ist kein Strahler und es weist eine Temperatur von -270Grad, deswegen ist die Auflsung schlecht. Ihr wollt messen Wrmebrcken mit Differenz von 10C habt aber die Max Differenz bei 300C… wird nicht funktionieren. Wollt ihr Fotos machen mit Himmel msst ihr in die hhere Preisklasse gehen wo Sie den Temperaturbereich whlen knnt. Lasst euch von Flir beraten. Aber so lange Sie die Wrmebrcken von auen messen und aufpasst dass der Himmel nicht in Hintergrund ist, funktioniert es super.
-Was nicht funktioniert oder wie es umgehen:
Glas und Metal spiegeln die Strahlung! Ihr werdet auf dem die Temperatur von der Strahlung von Umgebung messen, oder noch besser/schlechter, Sie werden sich selber drin sehen und messen knnen. Deswegen weist ein metales nichtbeschichtetes Kochtopf bei 100C eine T von Umgebung z.Bsp. 20C.
Sie knnt es umgehen so das sie auf die Oberflche(falls technisch mglich) einen schwarzen Elektroisolierband klebt und die T auf dem messen. Hat genauen E-Koeffizienten weil der schwarz und nicht poliert ist.
-Glatte und polierte oder glatt Beschichtete Oberflchen knnen auch eine kleine Spiegelung aufweisen deswegen bite acht geben.
Die Alle oberen Anleitungen gehen auch fr die Kammeras in hheren Preisklasse und deswegen knnen Sie sehr tief in die Brieftasche greifen und immer gleiche falsche Messungen kriegen wie auch bei TG165.
Die TG165 ist ein sehr gutes Gert fr Fehlersuche und Temperaturmessungen(sehr genaue falls sie genauen E-Koef. und Distanz bercksichtigen).
Ein Bild z.Bsp. Heisswasserleitungen im Boden suchen. Leckagen knnen von hei- wie von kalt-Wasser gefunden werden.
Hoffentlich hilft es vielen bei Ihrem Einkauf, Benutzung und auch besseren Erfahrungen.

Hace unos pocos aos las cmaras termogrficas eran prohibitivas. Pero con estos modelos esta tecnologa est al alcance de cualquiera.
No es estrictamente una cmara termogrfica, ya que la escala de colores no est calibrada. Es un termmetro infrarrojo que mide la temperatura del centro de la imagen (el rea queda marcada con dos punteros lser) y adems ofrece una imagen que, insisto, aunque no est calibrada permite ver diferencias de temperatura. Adems puede salvar las imgenes en una tarjeta micro-sd. Aunque, a diferencia de una verdadera cmara termogrfica, graba solamente una imagen y no los datos termogrficos del sensor.
Esto es trememendamente til para comprobar circuitos electrnicos (un condensador electroltico ms caliente que su entorno es un buen indicio de que sera conveniente sustituirlo) y cuadros elctricos. Un contacto o fusible caliente en un cuadro elctrico nos indica que la conexin es deficiente y con el tiempo fallar. De hecho en la industria es frecuente llevar a cabo estas inspecciones de manera preventiva.
Aun con sus limitaciones es muchsimo ms til que un termmetro infrarrojo sin cmara. Y permite hacer bastantes de las cosas que permite una cmara termogrfica aunque, eso s, con menos precisin.
This is one of the most useful tools I’ve ever had for fixing things around the house. For now, it’s helped me find a cat that somehow managed to climb between two floors and then got lost and went quiet (thanks Amazon Prime for shipping the camera within a day!), and find a flexible duct that some unwanted pests had chewed into and was leaking into the basement ceiling (I had spent several months trying to find where the leak was, and the accompanying awful smell).

Very nice tool for the price. I shot the cat with it and it was really weird looking: the cats eyes glowed orange-red and his body was kind of an off blue. The cat didn't seem to mind, and I had great fun. Anyway, I use if for my HVAC work and am very pleased with it. Having the imaging along with the temp just can't be beat. PS: I didn't hurt my beloved cat - he is alive and well and suffered no ill effects from the infrared gun. :)

Einfach zu bedienen. Fr eine schnelle Aussage kann ich das Produkt empfehlen. Die Temp.skala kann nicht eingestellt werden – daher macht es die Farbdarstellung etwas schwierig. Durch die Temp. anzeige im Fadenkreuz kann man jedoch die Wrmeverlustpunkte genau lokalisieren. Die erzeugten Fotos sind relativ kleinformatig – wenig Auflsung.

Es ist keine super hochwertige Wrmebildkamera aber fr den Heim- und Hobbygebrauch ist sie absolut ausreichend. Fr diesen Preis habe ich keine hherwertige Wrmebildkamera gefunden. Das Zubehr ist sehr gut, sogar mit Speicherkarte
Bellissimo strumento. Mi molto utile in ambito lavorativo anche ad alte temperature. Non ha purtroppo il case quindi rimane sciolto e bisogna prenderlo a parte ma per il resto perfetto.

Estremamente facile nell’utilizzo. Ha servito ad individuare flussi in condotti di scarico utlizzando acqua calda. E’ servito anche ad indviduare le zone critiche ai fini dello scambio termico, nelle ante di portoncini. Piu’ che sufficiente per un utilizzo nel fai da te o per utilizzi saltuari.
Estremamente facile nell’utilizzo. Ha servito ad individuare flussi in condotti di scarico utlizzando acqua calda. E’ servito anche ad indviduare le zone critiche ai fini dello scambio termico, nelle ante di portoncini. Piu’ che sufficiente per un utilizzo nel fai da te o per utilizzi saltuari.
L’ho comprata per l’auto e il fai da te in genere e, pur essendo tra quelle pi “economiche” (quelle professionali partono dai 1000/2000 euro in su) fa bene il suo lavoro. Rileva la variazione di temperatura SUPERFICIALE degli oggetti animati e non con scala in gradi Celsius o Fahrenheit anche ad una decina di metri, seppur ovviamente con i contorni non molto definiti vista la grande distanza, fornendo colorazioni diverse (di solito il pi caldo in giallo) e permettendo di salvare foto degli stessi su scheda micro sd inclusa. Lo schermo ha una frequenza di aggiornamento veloce ed sufficientemente grande, luminoso e definito. Il case in plastica di buona qualit e in gomma. La batteria ricaricabile permette un’ottima autonomia (penso nell’ordine di mezz’ora e pi, non l’ho mai adoperata per lunghe misurazioni) e pu essere prolungata collegando la camera ad una batteria esterna per cellulare attraverso la porta micro usb (io uso una batteria Ravpower). La consegna stata veloce e la confezione arrivata integra e ricchissima di cavetti.
This is a really nice piece of kit. It picks up all kinds of heat signatures and anomalies where you would not expect. Some Electrical items clearly produce significant amount of heat which shows up on this. You can also see where heat is escaping and where cold air is seeping into buildings. This is one device I would recommend. It does what the more expensive thermal devices does. Good product at a reasonable price. Quick delivery.

Love this camera. Works great. It’s not a 2000 dollar product so don’t expect this email results but it’s a real eye opener on heat loss in a house. I almost lost my mind when I first got it and realized how much money I’m wasting on poorly insulated walls. Windows without blinds are a huge culprit. You can’t imagine the difference until you see it in person.
I met my expectations. It’s helped me diagnose a/c problems already. It’s so much easier to use to find problem areas.

I’m not sure if my husband does either.

It is surprising just how many times I have used this Thermal Camera since I purchased it. I have spotted and repaired insulation leaks around the house. Taken it to work so we could diagnose a welding machine. I have even diagnosed a circuit board failure on one of my cars as well. It is not perfect as I even tried to check the temp on the oil in my Turkey Fryer. When I did this the camera screen just flashes and it is difficult to read the temp. Most likely because it is a fluid? Had to switch to my regular thermal temp gage for that application. Nevertheless I am glad I bought it and recommend it to anyone who has a need for it as it is well made.
While at the price, I am constantly looking for other uses for this thing, it does quite well at what I bought it for. I can finally feel my fingertips again. I was using my fingertips as temperature sensors for electronic components. This thing does a much better job as there is no 1-2 second delay followed by curse words. There might be an occasional curse word as I scramble to find the power supply to quickly unplug it the board I am scanning with it, but the burning sensation in my fingertips is gone.
While at the price, I am constantly looking for other uses for this thing, it does quite well at what I bought it for. I can finally feel my fingertips again. I was using my fingertips as temperature sensors for electronic components. This thing does a much better job as there is no 1-2 second delay followed by curse words. I have found poorly insulated ceiling space in my kitchen and living room, and a somewhat large thumb sized hole at a major air duct trunk connection in my attic for my heat pump forced hot air.
I also found my air handler was not a well insulated as I would like, so I’ll be adding external insulation in the future. A couple of hours of carefully walking around the house revealed a lot. It helps when the outdoor temperature is very low (below freezing) and the indoor temperature is about 70F. Recessed lighting in the kitchen is leaking air/heat too. I’ll have to convert the fixtures to LED so I can insulate the space above the light fixtures.
I debated about this tool or the Flir ONE that attaches to a phone, but for a few dollars more this is worth it.

So awesome. I’ve found numerous air leaks around windows, doors, ceiling, chimney, etc. Would have never found them without this product. I love that you can save a photo to the microSD card for later viewing. A great product.

Works as advertised. Useful in finding/diagnosing cold spots around my house, and from outside, it helps to see what part of the house is radiating the most. I've even found I can use it to help find studs in the wall.

Preis Leistung super. Lange habe ich fr mein Hobby (Kfz & Haus) eine erschwingliche Mglichkeit gesucht ansatzweise “gnstig” ein Art Wrmebildkamera zu bekommen. Diess Thermal Thermometer deckt meine Belange voll und ganz ab. Warmehotspots am Kfz suchen, Wrmebrcken um die Fenster in Haus. Heizungsrohre usw… Ich finde dieses Teil absolut super.
Wer mehr will oder eine hhere Auflsung bentigt sollte etwas tiefer in die Tasche greifen.

In any case, I really like this camera. I do have two minor complaints but considering the price range I don’t think they’re a big deal. I would definitely buy it again and recommend it to friends. Although, if I had an actual use case for this in a day job I would probably save up my money and buy one of the bigger models.
GOOD:
– Solid construction and feel. It feels sturdy in my hands and it looks pretty sweet.
– Hand strap included which is nice if you plan on using this for more than looking at things on a workbench.
– Accurate. As far as I can tell the temperatures are accurate (using the screen readout and aiming reticle).
– Can transfer images using the USB cable or by removing the sdcard. I like that I can do both because it gives me greater flexibility and I can use a larger sdcard if I want.
NEUTRAL:
– The framerate is somewhere around 15-20 frames per second (definitely no more than 30). Doesn’t really interfere with the intended usage of this camera but it can be slightly annoying when moving it around quickly.
BAD:
– There is no included lens cap or case. I can’t imagine anyone not wanting at least one of those two things to protect their camera. I’m not even sure if they make lens caps for this particular model.
– The temperature color scale is always relative to what’s visible on the screen. This is particularly annoying when you’re trying to compare differences in temperature between several points. The screen always shows a temperature reading in the top-left so it’s not impossible to do just annoying. I can’t imagine it would be that hard to implement 1-2 options in the camera’s menu that would allow changing this behavior so I don’t really understand why it’s not included.

Easy to use. Showed me right away where the cold spots are in my home. I don’t have to wait for a contractor to determine the problem areas. It is now a less expensive fit project.

Have not really done much with this yet. Having used thermal imaging cameras for the fire dept, this one is a step down but it is still a Cool Toy, and certainly great for work if I needed it for that. Be aware that you can’t change the battery yourself. For the few times I will use this, that could be a problem. There is a video on the internet where a guy totally destroys this unit to access the battery.
Also, there is no confirmation when you format the card. Accidentally push the button and all of your files are GONE!

Works great. Have found several poor electrical connections on contactors using it, that would have been missed without it.
Also easily spots missing or poor insulation in ceilings and walls, to show customers why some bedrooms are not as cool as others.
Was not sure how this would work out for the money I paid, but as usual you get what you pay for and it is fantastic. The definition is more than enough to review my home and identify which part I need to work on to increase my overall insulation. I found all sorts of weird things going on and places where the summer heat was radiation into my living space. It helped me identify why one room was hotter than the rest and now my hose is nice and even. I have used this for other applications but mainly on my home.

Great tool but it did not meet my needs. The details was not good enough for me. But if you want a starter imaging IR this is the tool for you.
Kann sich sicher nicht mit vielfach so teuren IR-Kameras messen und wie der Name schon sagt eher eine visuelle Erweiterung eines IR-Thermometers. Man sieht klar welchen Punkt man mit dem IR-Thermometer anvisiert und ob man den gewnschten heissesten/kltesten Punkt auch wirklich misst, erkennt Temperaturverlufe, Wrmebrcken usw..
So lsst sich z.B. erkennen ob eine Bremsscheibe gleichmig trgt und sich damit beim Bremsen gleichmig erwrmt, ob Khler berall durchstrmt werden, Heizkrper zu Hause, Wrmebrcken am Haus lassen sich finden usw.. Die geringe Auflsung bedingt natrlich dass man diverse Aufnahmen machen muss und ggf. per Bildbearbeitung zusammenfgen muss, aber das bisschen Mehraufwand steht in keinem Verhltnis dazu was Kameras mit hoher Auflsung kosten.
Fr den gelegentlichen Gebrauch also eine klare Empfehlung in der Preisklasse.
I was going to buy a 1000 dollar FLIR but found this one. This does everything I was looking for. It helps find the cold air spots from poor insulation but also find hot spots in your fuse box. For fun you can also use this to find moles under the grass. The capture image feature and laser guide is handy to have also.
Works very well. I’ve used it to trace electrical circuts across printed circuts and relays, diagnose HAVAC leaks and check my coworker for ebola fever. Can’t be to careful !

Ich habe diese Kamera zum Aufspren und Bewerten von Wrmebrcken angeschafft.In Innenrumen funktioniert das tadellos. Der Sensor besitzt eine ordentliche Auflsung fr diesen Zweck Aussen sieht das anders aus, da sich die Messspanne nicht fixieren lsst und sich immer an der hchsten und niedrigsten Temperatur im Bild orientiert. Ist der Himmel mit im Bild, sind alle anderen Bauteile nahezu unbrauchbar. Hier wrde auch die Auflsung nicht ausreichen.
Weiterhin fllt die solide Verarbeitung des Gertes positiv auf, man glaubt ihr die angegebene Fallhhe von 2 Metern, auch wenn man das nicht unbedingt testen will.
Die gespeicherten Bilder liegen im BMP Format vor und sind leider nicht zur nachtrglichen Auswertung geeignet. Man muss sich also schon beim speichern Gedanken ber den Messwert machen und das Fadenkreuz darauf ausrichten. Die eingebauten Laser helfen dabei.

Ich wrde mir das Gert jederzeit wieder kaufen. Das Problem mit dem Messbereich knnte wahrscheinlich durch ein Softwareupdate behoben werden (Wunschdenken) aber ich denke das Flir dieses Feature absichtlich weggelassen hat um sich von teureren Gerten abzugrenzen.

Manual doesn’t address whether or not you can leave the unit plugged and charging all the time you aren’t using it. This is OK for some battery-operated devices and very much not OK for others.
You can use the unit while it is charging, but you have to turn it on first and then connect the USB cable. It will not turn on if you are already charging.
Haven’t done it yet, but depending on which *authorized* distributor you buy from, it looks like you can get a free TG165 case or other FLIR item. Not sure if this works if you buy from authorized distributor where the order is fulfilled by Amazon, but I will soon find out. The FLIR website lists the authorized distributors; then go to the distributor website for details.
It shuts down if you do not press a button. The default is 2 minutes but you can change the time or turn that feature off, as I did.
If you are in a situation where the laser pointers might hit someone’s eyes (such as using the instrument near other people or a pet) you can turn them off via the menu.
After you first charge it and before you use it, copy the manual from the instrument to your computer. Otherwise you will blow away the manual when you delete images.
If you download the manual from the FLIR website, which requires registration, you get a 36MB self-expanding compressed file that includes a couple of dozen different manuals in various languages. Took a while on my slow connection.
There are other files besides the manuals in the compressed file. Not sure what they are.
Per the FLIR website, the current firmware version is 1.5.3 which is what came in my unit.
The just-announced $700 FLIR IR camera has the same IR sensor resolution (80×60) according to the FLIR website specs.
I was a bit torn on how to best review this product because about 2 years ago, I purchased the FLIR i3 thermal imaging camera http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0074YLFMC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So, first things first. I opted to compare and contrast the two products because some buyers might be tempted to use this versus the other larger FLIR models…that would be a mistake and I will explain why in a minute. Next, I opted to evaluate this product as a stand alone rather when providing the review ranking.
Okay, so as far as the comparison…FLIR lists this product as an imaging thermometer and the FLIR i3 (and subsequent models) as a thermal imaging camera. While initially that might seem like semantics, there are important distinctions which should assist the buyer in making an informed decision. This is truly a thermometer that happens to have a visual screen while the other is an imaging camera that happens to be able to differentiate temperature. To put it another way, this thermometer will provide a quick glimpse via the screen but the resolution is insufficient to use in detailed or large applications. The compact i3 model is a bit larger, lightweight and a bit more than double the price…so, which do you need? Of course, the answer largely depends upon your desired function and what you plan to do with it but in general, I’d say you can safely assume this model (the imaging thermometer) will work well for applications such as mechanics/motor vehicle repair and maintenance or spot checking a known leak location. On the other hand, if you intend to do a bit of “detective work” such as locating an unknown leak in a large house etc…I’d absolutely go with the i3 or above (and having owned and used the i3 for 2+ years, I’d probably dish out a bit more money and go with a larger model. The i3 is a budget minded model – it works well but the screen and resolution is a bit too small…it gets the job done but I find myself wishing I’d gone larger).
Okay, so now back to this imaging thermometer. It is a nice, lightweight model. Unlike many other FLIR products, it did not come with a case which was a bit annoying. Aside from that, former FLIR users will find a familiar patterns for buttons and device structure. FLIR makes a fairly intuitive product. A standard usb and micro card allows easy storage and distribution of the images – also easily acts as a before/after comparison and ability to zoom for a better look. As others have noted, the battery is locked – ie, not user serviceable without voiding the warranty and undergoing more headache and hassle than one out to be required. FLIR does have a decent warranty and builds a reliable, useful product suitable for a wide variety of professional needs.
An imaging IR Thermometer with a display screen makes finding hot components much easier. It really gives you a much clearer picture of what is really happening with a component. I have used this on circuit boards to find trouble spots. I have used it on mechanical equipment to find bad bearings. I even used it in my basement and realized I need to insulate my hot water pipes, baseboard heater pipes, and do something about the heat loss around my windows and doors.
This imaging thermometer even allows you to save the images to included 8GB Micro SD card so you can upload them to your computer to stury or email them to others. This comes with a charger and USB cord to keep everything charged. The thermometer has a nice, rubbery grip to it so even with dirty or greasy hands it should not fall. Overall this is a great tool for diagnosing problems caused by heat.

Not bad for what you get. The screen should have you looking at ‘5x’6 area for heat leaks or heat build up. Comes with a charger and battery, 8GB microSD and instructions. The booklet doesn’t indicate charging time or expected battery life. After a bit of use it was turning off on its own even though I had charged it for a couple hours. You can switch the screen to several imaging modes one of them looks just like the view that Predator sees from the movies and seems to be more effective than the B/W and default setting. When you hold the trigger you get a dual laser pointer and the unit takes a snap for later use which you can then delete or save. This is great for locating heat loss spots and lowering your heating bill.
I am not going to compare this to other imaging IR thermometers, as this is the first unit of this sort that I have ever used. I can report however, that in my application, the TG165 would have paid for itself in one day of use.
I live in a 130+ year-old house that has seen many renovations by workers of varying skill. Insulation is spotty and we know the house leaks heat. In some locations, you can feel the cold coming in, and we had assumed the worst problems were around the back door on the bottom level and the front door a floor up. Thanks to the TG165, we know that the vents in the front of the basement were at least as bad a problem, and fixing those was a lot quicker and easier than fixing the doors would be. I estimate that we will save over $500 on heat in the first year alone.
The unit is easy to use, the main challenge is going to be keeping it out of the hands of my kids, who think it’s a very entertaining toy.
My husband does home maintenance work, so he has a whole arsenal of tools he uses and work that he does on houses for customers. When I showed him this device, he could not be more thrilled. He started going all over the house and testing everything he could find, and has been using it on site of a job that he is doing on an older home.
WHAT IS THIS DEVICE LIKE?
This is a small gun like tool which has a screen about the size of a small cell phone. The button you use to turn it on has to be pressed for a few seconds, so it is not going to be too easy to turn on by accident. On the micro SD card that comes with the machine, there is a PDF copy of the manual and some other files and images. You can connect the gun to a desktop or laptop via USB port and print out the manual, which is just over 30 pages. You can also find the manual PDF on the web site should you accidentally erase it. It also has a lanyard of sorts which slips through a slot on the bottom so that you can loop it over a tool belt or belt loop. The lanyard has a handy clip on it so that you can release it when you need to use it and then snap it back into place without having to un-loop it every time you want to use it.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
This will give you a pretty good idea of temperature of things, but it depends on how close you hold the gun. For instance, when testing something thick such as a body of water (as in a fish tank), you will get different temperature readings depending upon how close you are to the tank. The point that the gun reads the temperature varies throughout the area of the water, so you will get different readings.
I realize that this is not for testing fish tank temperature, but the same holds true for things with larger mass. This is more for precise smaller area to find heat or cool leakages, in other words, variance in temperature that should not be there.
I will say that I was relieved to know that my fish tanks are all the same temperature reading despite the inexpensive thermometers being a bit more widely varied in their readings.

CAUTION
When you are updating this device using the USB port, you have to be relatively computer savvy. My husband tends to struggle a bit in this area. He is more of a hands on type person. The site is a bit difficult to maneuver around to find what you want to see and can confuse some. When we tried to update to add a rainbow color spectrum, we had to cut and paste the files from the site onto the device via USB port. Once it is there, you can open the text file to read instructions. It tells you to press buttons in a certain order to make the update happen.
Unfortunately what it DOESN’T tell you is that you have to unplug the USB cord first before trying to get the upgrade to happen. This led to some frustrations and an erased microSD card which took me some time to restore the things on the microSD card. Had my husband known what to do, it would have been more simple. Perhaps I can save someone else the frustration.
THE BOTTOM LINE
This is a very handy gadget which has a LOT of uses. In the line of work that my husband is in, he is finding new things to use it for every time I talk to him. He is looking at walls, plumbing, heat leaks, weak spots, the list goes on. The thing that we were both very disappointed in is that there is no lens cover or carrying case to protect this device. For the price, they should include this. The manual should also be included instead of making you print it. I realize that is how things are done these days, but it still seems that it should be included. For the price, it is a decent little device, as I know that most devices of this nature are far more expensive. I know that this device will come in handy for my husband and around our home. If it came with a case and/or at least lens cover, I would give it five stars.
If I could, I would give if four and a half stars instead.

There is so much to love when you are given the ability to see through a different lens. This Sci Fi gadget is just plain fun for me. I first saw this on the belt of my plumber who used it to show me where water was leaking in and I have wanted one ever since. It’s so simple to use the directions (which I’ve included) are just two tiny pages. For starters you plug it into your wall or usb power adapter and wait a couple of hours for it to get fully charged.
Then you hold down the return arrow button ( I know, right?) for about 3 to 4 seconds and it powers on. then in an instant you are looking at the infrared version of your space where White is Hot and black is not and the spectrum inbetween is pretty intuitive where orange/red are the warm objects and blues and blacks are cool. You can change that setting on the on screen menu to be any combination you want.
There is a “Trigger” that you can pull and it releases two laser lights to show you what you are looking at and it puts a picture on the card or in memory and will either store it or erase it based on what you do next. (Not doing anything will erase it. Before you know it you’ll be walking throughout your house trying to see some warm glow behind the walls – like a mouse!!
If you put your hand on a wall for 3 seconds and remove it you can see your hand print clearly on the wall. This thing is so cool that I hope you don’t spend $500 bucks just to look at walls. You can instanly spot trouble areas throughout your house and if it fits in your budget you will be thrilled that it is in your tool arsenal.
