The concept of the folding lock is relatively new. It was developed to join the benefits of two traditional locks – the “Chain lock” and the “U lock”, both have weaknesses as well. The Foldy compact is a good, solid bike lock and is easy to use. It comes with 3 keys and a code that you can register and you will be able to get keys copied in the future, if needed.
I’d read comments, before purchasing, about the weight of the lock. I was surprised to find that the lock wasn’t as heavy as I thought it would be and, to be honest, it’s negligible if you’re going to attach it to your bike frame. However, if you are going to be putting the lock in your bag, then I don’t think it is any heavier than other locks, in fact, I think D locks are heavier.
Ease of use: Once you have got used to the lock being akin to one of those plastic toy snakes that wiggled when you held it out, you can easily thread the lock through the back wheel around the post you are securing your bike to and lock it. I also use a steal cable that I thread through my front wheel to secure and have no problems.
I did find that I had to lean my bike as close to the post as possible (not use my stand as I usually do), but it’s no biggie I’d rather have a secure bike.
When unlocking, just be careful when pulling the Foldy back through the wheel. I have found that on some occasions the lock has made contact with the chain and I have ended up with oil on my hands. However, that is not the fault of the lock, as such, but operator error! The Foldy easily folds back to its compact state and slots nicely and securely in its holder.
The holder can be attached in various places on your bike frame with either the velcro straps or where the drinks holder usually goes. The bolts and straps both come with the lock.
The keys and the locking mechanism are solid, operate smoothly and I am reassured that my bike is safe when locked up (of course this also does depend on the surrounding area).
I would thoroughly recommend this Secure Silver Foldy compact lock.

I feel moderately safe using this lock.
A little awkward using them your first few times. I carry 2 on my bike. They feel strong enough to be dangerous. Linking together is easy. I have recommended these to others. I also use one to secure my generator to my deck.
If you have a nice bike that your not planning on unknowingly donating to someone, this is a nice lock to have on hand. Personally I recommend 2, you never know what your locking options will be.

Showed up, looks great. However… the included keys won’t unlock the lock. Since I have some familiarity with the use of keys in locks I should be able to do this. If not, they should include instructions, like how airlines tell you how to use a seat belt. If I can’t unlock a bike lock its utility is quite limited……. what a disappointment— we shall see if my email to their customer service gets answered.
In all, an unexpected bummer for a lock this expensive.

So after accidentally dropping my old lock down a storm drain, I bought this. A year on I am still delighted with this lock.
Initially, I had some worries about the “open” holder (my previous lock had rubber fastener to hold the lock in the case), but even on the bumpiest roads the lock stays in place.
The length of the lock was also a concern, but it is perfect to attach to railing, bike stands and such like (although probably not anything huge)
It is also much kinder to the bike. My previous lock damaged the paint on the bike with frequent use, I am not sure what the coating is on the lock but it is really kind to paint.
I use this lock in Singapore, so it regularly gets exposed to torrential rain and is exposed to an incredibly humid environment.. it has never failed me.
A year on it and although not cheap, it is seriously worth it.. It is used several times a day and still going strong!

I have more then one lock on my bike and this one is the most handiest. I have a thick frame on my bike so I can easily lock the bike with this. It appears strong.

This lock is great! I love the option of being able to attach it to a water bottle mount or to use the velcro straps to make it easy to take on and off the bike frame. It seems extremely strong and the foldy lock website offers videos of just how strong it is, as well as several youtube lock breakers. While it's called "compact," it's still fairly large and probably isn't going to fit in your pocket, but the ease of attaching it to your bike and the peace of mind that it isn't just a basic cable lock definitely makes up for that. Spend the money and keep your bike safe. This lock is worth it.

Was looking all over the internet for a reliable, relatively thief proof lock that wasn’t ridiculously heavy and could be mounted nicely on my bike. This one checks all the boxes.

Oh I love this. Lovely sturdy holder attached using the screws in the frame for bottle holders. Really sturdy. No rattle. Dead easy to open and wrap around the wheel and a bike post. Was slightly longer than expected. So neat and doesn’t take up all the frame space on my bike when it’s in its holder. Only issue may be if you have it on an upright frame you won’t have enough room to slide it in/out before hitting cross bar. But mine’s on the diagonal bar so it’s ok. Last issue is just general about why they make keys so big and long these days?!

i love this lock. wish it was a tab but bigger but i wanted compact and light weight and it totally is. i lock my fat tire to the frame and leave it at the beach without worry. locking the frame to a sign/post is great too.

Sturdy, convenient and reliable. I live in the city where bikes are stolen daily - my old one was stolen last year when a thief cut through the lock. I dont have any concerns about theft with this lock, and I love how easily it attaches to the bike frame for easy transport. Very solid purchase!

After searching a lock, I settled for this one, and I’m glad I did. The quality seems top notch. The lock is buttery smooth, unlike many other locks. It’s very strong for it’s size. No lock is really impossible to cut through, but a quality steel like this can easily stop someone with a medium (24″ bolt cutter)..which is usually the max size thieves carry. There are heavier locks, but I believe that the best lock is one you actually have with you all the time. I also have a kryptonite with thicker steel, but I usually have to leave that at home since it’s so much heavier to carry. Only thing with this lock is that the radius is not huge, for my 27.5 mtb, I can lock the back wheel and frame, but not the front wheel and frame..it’s a few inches short.

This is great very solid, quite heavy but not too heavy. Using this on my ebike and does the job. I did a lot of reading and these are pretty good silver rated.

So who gives a hoot about how nice it looks…… Well let me point out here that this lock feels strong, but is strong. It not only feels secure but is secure. It’s also neat, petite. It’s everything you would want in a bike lock…..and it looks good too…. I think I failed to mention that earlier….. I have one little gripe though… . And thats the holster it comes with which you affix to your two wheeled wonder. Its secures itself to the bike with velcro straps….. Now I am not sure what a thief would want with a bike lock holster without the actual bike lock, but still, for the price of this bad boy I would of thought they could have designed a more assured holster which would be impregnable when attached.

Really like this product. The feel and heft of it creates a sense of security locking up with it.
Quality of construction and materials is evident. The flat structure makes it a little hard to maneuver around poles and angles, but does give a solid lock up.

The good points include: great quality build, not overly heavy, minimal low-profile design, super-smooth folding, great carrying bracket that bolts directly to your frame and is tight/no rattling. The only possible bad point might be the price. I'm locking a Trek X-Caliber 7 Mountain Bike, which is valued at about 110,000円, so I didn't mind spending a bit extra. Think about it like this: You just bought your dream bike, you then buy a cheap lock hoping to save money after spending big on the bike. You take it out for a ride, lock it up, go into a store, come back out, and your bike is gone, and the "cheap lock" is lying on the ground, cut in half...Spend the extra 6000円 so that doesn't happen. On the street, I use it to lock my back wheel and frame to an immovable object, in conjunction with a Kryptonite Disc Lock Reminder, which I wrap around my front wheel, then lock the other end to the Foldy Lock, itself. For longer lock-ups, I use the Foldy Lock on the front wheel and frame, and a Kryptonite Keeper 785 Integrated Chain for the back wheel and frame, which I lock to an immovable object. Rock solid lock very compact and actually not yo heavy considering the construction of it.
It has a couple if mounting options either direct to a bottle holder mount or with two rubber backed straps you can mount it almost anywhere on your bike with out damaging the frame or having lots of rattles.

BEST BIKE LOCK EVER. Most security for the weight, most portable and easy to use. Best capacity and ability to use around larger poles. Best fit into the holder. Fantastic blow your mind Audi like keys. All bike locks should be this good, even the ones that cost double, that I’ve bought time and again stupidly until I discovered this vastly superior product. Time to buy stock in Foldylock I gotta go call my broker.

Pesantuccio, ma ci sta… uniche pecche direi la lunghezza non adeguata se il palo robusto o lontano, non ci si arriva e le bretelle per attaccare il supporto sono corte (nel mio caso dovevo metterlo su una e-bike che ha il telaio spesso perch il vano batteria) appena 25-30cm al massimo…direi che 40-45 sarebbero state pi adeguate.

Very heavy, but also easy to carry using the frame holder, or in a pocket. Feels very secure.
I don’t know how to explain it other than to say it feels like this product was designed for left-handed people.
I have used U locks for years, I’m accustomed to having keys in right hand, lock in left hand. When you do that with this product, once you wrap it around your bike the slot is upside down from where you want it to be. Difficult to explain, but it continues to annoy me over time.
Also, the plastic cover for the lock cylinder fell off after a few months of light use. No big deal, it still works without it. Still though.
Otherwise, it’s a fine product.

Well made good quality bike lock. Compact and sturdy but a quite heavy.
1-Good holding mechanism unless you need to use the straps provided.
2-Very easy to use, locks nicely without forcing on 100% of the attempts I tried
3-No scratches on the bike frame
4-The key type is such that does not suffer when it gets rusty, unlike my kryptonite locks (both useless for that reason)
5-Not heavy
6-Somewhat cool to carry on the bike
I know it is not as safe as the U locks but carrying a 2kg lock sometimes is not possible.

I don’t have waterbottle fixings on my bicycle, so had rto attach the holder to the frame with the Velcro straps.
My only criticsim of the product is that is does tend to twist around whilst cycling.

i like the sturdiness of the lock which hopefully scares bad guys away from my bike at the time of my school

Great lock but be cautious with dirt. If the mount gets dirt inside, the lock can be a pain to remove. Other than that I like it.

This is a quick review I will update but initial response is very sturdy and looks well build. Use is easy but have yet to test locking to a pole,etc yet. Weight- it is not light but lighter than most gold secure ulocks and chains.

Its not the lightest folding lock but if you mount it to your bike you will not notice it, it needs a good mounting system. But otherwise its the beefiest lock I've owned.

I’ve only used this lock for a week, so my opinion may not be worth much.
1. My new bike has not been stolen. So, that’s a definite plus.
2. It seems well constructed as advertised. If I wanted to steal my bike, I would not be able to break this thing with any tool that I own. I don’t own any steel cutting tools. So, I’m not a bike thief. Another plus.
3. It is relatively light weight and connects nicely to the seat post. Another plus.
4. Long enough to wrap around slim post, but not a Sequoia. You might need two liked together. I live in Texas. No Sequoias, but we do have big oaks. Minor issue. No points.
5. Key and lock seem high quality. Not a locksmith, but looks formidable.
6. If you park next to a guy who locks his bike with something he used with his Huffy, you should be ok. They’ll look at your “bite me” tough lock and look at his Hopalong Cassidy lock and take his bike. Like I said, I’m not a bike thief, but that’s what I’d do.

The only drawback for me was that although it's about the same size as a standard U-bolt lock, if I want to lock the frame and rear wheel of my e-bike to an object, it has to be something fairly small, like the size of a stop sign pole. The standard size would gives more locking options but it isn't rated as high. I ended up going with the Pedego version of the FoldyLock, which is much bigger and unfortunately about $30-$40 more. It also is more floppy like the standard size. Wish they made this version in a longer length. It would provide better security, be easier to use, and provide more locking options.

It felt like overkill for India [our bike-thieves haven’t yet reached the level of sophistication of the UK or the US] but after reading the reviews for Foldylock, one couldn’t quite resist the security it offered. Looks great, weighs a ton, and puts the mind at rest about warding off the covetous-eye.

I've had 4 bikes stolen over 18 years and have tried tempered steel bolds, etc. This is a really sturdy lock, and the flexibility of the links makes it more user friendly with the various places you will find to lock your bike. I highly recommend this lock.

Check the fit! My frame has a sloping top tube and the lock can’t slide into the holster when mounted on the bottle-studs. So, I have to use the velcrostraps (included) around the toptube ‘hack’. Too bad lock doesn’t just snap in to an open frame from the front for better fitting to all bikes.
Feels heavy in the hand because of density folded, but weighs same as a 20 year old u-lock this is replacing.
It’s easy to open, unlock and lock. But it’s really not that light. I put it in my bag on my bike rack. It won’t secure a wheel and frame and pole. Much too short for that. But it’s incredibly secure. No way it can be broken, so your bike will be safe.

This is the best bicycle lock that I have seen. It is very sturdy and it would be very difficult for someone to cut or break. I like that it folds up and easily attaches to the bike frame. The length is reasonable, but I wish it was at least 1 foot longer. Very easy to attach to the bike frame with both the screws and the Velcro. Also like that three keys were provided. Expensive, but given the construction and the value of my bicycle, worth the cost.
Easy to use - love the compact design and still feel safe locking up my (not-shiny or too expensive) bike in Brooklyn. I especially love the holder. I've installed mine on the lower part of my bike where a water bottle could go. This allows me to still throw the bike over my shoulder for easy carrying up and down stairs.

After our bikes got stolen twice, I decided to get this lock to keep our bikes from getting stolen again. This lock is great! It’s super strong so I don’t think there’s a way for anyone to cut/break it, it folds nice and small and comes with a holder I can just attach to the bike and comes with 3 sets of keys plus a duplication code which is great since I have the tendency to lose things. I’m really happy with this product, it is totally worth the price if keeps me from replacing another bike!

i put this on my WABI CLASSIC ... it's heavy enough to effect the bikes weight ... its attachment is solid & does NOT rattle ... it is easy & convenient to use ... i ride low end urban areas and the FOLDY is the best deterrent that i have found ... if it's weather proof over time it will be a great optio

I originally purchased this because the reviews seemed good. I was very surprised when it arrived! This lock is real well made! Surprised with how solid it is. Has a bit of weight to it which I was not expecting. Finish is excellent and smooth operation. I needed a lightweight lock for quick trips into a store or restroom break but dang, this is not a cheap lock! Highly recommend! You will be surprised like I was!

I went for this one for its good looks, high security and promise of rattle free riding. Well two out of three it seems, I have a stealthy looking matt black bike and this lock in black is in the same vein and matches well. Under certain conditions it does rattle though, not a lot but enough that I can hear it but on my bike I have hub gears and a belt drive so sometimes this little rattle is all that I can hear and for this reason I have to mark it down one star. I guess I will have to try padding out the holder or similar to eradicate the rattles, if it had genuinely been rattle free it would have received 5 stars. That said I would not necessarily want anyone with derailleur gears or chain drive to be put off by my review, I doubt they would hear any rattling above the noise of their gears/chain/freewheel ticking.
As an edit to my original review it would be great if one could purchase an additional separate holster for fitting to a second bicycle. Many of us have two or more bikes or in my case would like the ability for my wife to borrow the lock when she goes out on her bike. I know replacement holsters are available in the US but I can’t seem to find one in the UK.

Excellent product however one of the gromits is missing and can not get a replacement through amazon only return the entire product which I don’t want to do.
Not the lightest, but still portable. Not sure how secure it is, but it's not as easy to break as the other lock of the same kind. I usually have 2.5 locks on my bike if I intend to leave it for a long time. This is a good backup lock, more portable than those giant U locks.

Excellent bike lock which is easy to store. The rivets are well constructed and strong and is more manageable than a D lock. This lock is worth the investment for any expensive bike.

Very happy with the lock but it arrived with a 2.5 cm long black rubber frame spacer protector missing, little thing to moan about really.

I was shopping for a bike lock and Kryptonite locks seemed to big. I wanted something small and light. I then saw a bike locked up with a foldylock. I was sold! Installation of the bracket was quick and easy. Screws into the same holes for a water bottle, and screws were included. The lock feels durable and secure in the bracket.

This lock is great. I’m a city rider on the streets almost every day. The rattle of my old u-lock drove me nuts. When attached to the water-bottle mounts, this lock is silent. It weighs about the same as the u-lock and is far more compact. It is much easier to thread through the rear tire, around the frame, and the object you’re fastening to than a u-lock. It is elegantly designed and gets a Solid Secure Silver rating – same as the lock I used to use. I don’t leave my bike outside overnight, but for locking up my bike while out in the city, I have great confidence in it.

Convenient Lock
It is really a convenient way to carry a lock without bringing a bag or back pack.
Of course there is a trade off between size and length of the lock.
But for most of my use, locking short term, while grabbing coffee or a bite to eat, it’s great.
I ride a lot and had tons of locks Other folding locks . This lock just out beat them all. It easily show it been well thought of to the smallest details . From the smooth functionality and the high quality key mechanism to the ways it being packed .Great job and thanks you for a great easy to use secure lock that will probably keep me riding for long time .
