It is a very neat design with easy to use settings. I have been using it in a conservatory where we have a damp problem in one corner. It extracted a lot of water in the first couple of hours and has continued to do so. We can see a big difference in the area of damp. The conservatory has also been warmer. It is not heavy – I am 75 and had no trouble carrying the parcel into the house and unpacking it. It is also not very noisy. So far so very good! It can easily be moved and think the clothes drying system would be useful.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersCan be easily moved from room to room provided you make sure it is switched off and the fan has stopped before you move it. But the lead on the machine is very short. Once you have your head around the controls its very easy to control. How much water it removes from the atmosphere depends on the humidity in the room/ s, the maximum we have extracted in 24hrs is 4 litres ( 2 Tanks full). We had a particular problem with a built in wardrobe in our bedroom which is next door to the bathroom which does not have an extractor fan and no wall to put one in! the wardrobe backs on to a very cold wall often used to get a lot of condensation. This was dry after setting the DD8L to extract the damp for half a day. Another advantage is that the air distributed after drying is warm ( about 8 degrees higher than that drawn into the machine) This is the first dehumidifier we have owned so can not compare with other makes/models.

Appears to do the job, but now wish I’d bought one with a display that tells you the level of humidity, so you have an idea how it is doing.

Using it for the loft. Very effective. Only downside is no drainage tube. I had to pay over 12 on MEACO website.
Having said that it is a very good product – buy it!

Very pleased with this product . Porch at front of house was getting quite damp because of condensation on windows . Not now , problem solved with this product . No complicated instructions , very easy to use . Just plug in and press a couple of buttons according to setting you require. Definitely worth the money.

I read the Which? reviews and did lots of online research, and it was a no-brainer to go for a desiccant dehumidifier rather than a refrigerant type. Rated as a Best Buy several times; easy to move the DD8L around, smart to look at and sucks loads of moisture out of the air (and washing!) Great purchase; highly recommended.

Have previously had a dehumidifier for many years which I use downstairs throughout the winter. Purchased this item for upstairs as was getting moisture inside windows in the morning. Very pleased with it. Easy to use and like the fact it cuts in and out to maintain correct level of moisture (which my existing one doesnt do). Has option to dry washing (I use my old one for this and it works very well). I have my new one running all night and dont find the noise intrusive but if you are a light sleeper it might wake you when it cuts in if you have your bedroom door open as I do. It is easy to turn around to empty the water tray. Very pleased with my purchase and no more condensation on windows.

Amazing! In just a few hours it removed 4 liters of water from our apartment. This dehumidifier is incredibly powerful. We tried small ones before, experiencing almost no benefit whatsoever. Now I can finally see the end of the damp and mould era.

I live in an old 2 bedroomed Edinburgh flat with metal framed windows that every winter attract massive condensation and inevitable black mould buildup (and I’m allergic to it, gives me asthma). In desperation, I did some research and found this dehumidifier was recommended. Since using it I can honestly say it has transformed my life. After the initial dehumidifying week when I was collecting nearly 10 litres a day, it settled down and now I wake up every morning to completely dry windows and no mould growing. My morning asthma has completely gone.

I have one machine in my hallway – and it does all the rooms.

This is an absolutely brilliant device – especially as it includes a clothes-drying option.

If I could give it 6 stars I would.

Don’t waste money on small or cheap de-humidifiers as they don’t work.
This machine does it all, wish I bought it first!

I have a timber built summerhouse and was starting to get a bit damp in there and eventually found a few spores on furniture in the corner one day.
After a big clean and buying a couple of 35 & 70 de-humidifiers the condensation was still a problem so I read every river and googled as much as I could until I found this one.

In less than 24hrs on the medium setting this machine pulled almost 10litres of water out of that room (4m x 2m).
I left it on overnight with timer and the next morning I didn’t have 1 but if condensation.
I wish I had bought this machine first.

I don’t usually write reviews but this has exceeded expectations.
I bought this after moving in to a house that wasn’t aired well in 2016 (4.5 years) , or heated in all rooms.
Since, I’ve used this for many leaks and after wall paper stripping or when the house was decorated over winter and it needed a helping hand.
I’ve had it pulling 16l per day on full fan speed in one of the rooms where builders hadn’t weatherproofed adequately after removing a section of roof.
I use it a few times per month in the winter when you can’t air the house and it’s never let me down, includes all the features you need and easy to use.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersWe moved into a house that had not been ventilated properly, with some rooms smelling damp. It also has a ‘lean to/conservatory’ that had a lot of condensation. It has taken about a week using the dehumidifier for 3/4 hours a day for the damp smell to go and it has been brilliant in the ‘lean to’ in preventing condensation. We couldn’t believe how well it works and how much water collects in the reservoir. Very happy with this purchase.

Started to get some condensation recently in the garage on my gym equipment so did a fair amount of research and found this brand highly recommended and this type of dehumidifier being suitable for the purpose. It works in cold weather and seems to do the job. It hasnt had to be left on for more than a few hours at a time and the water doesnt fill too often. Obviously this will be put to a proper test in the early months of next year but with the cold mornings recently its served its purpose so far.
Not too noisy and does produce a bit of heat also – which being in the garage is also welcome.

We’ve had quite a lot of rain lately and trying to dry washing without using the tumble dryer has been nearly impossible.
My cousin said she had one of these which has a laundry setting on it, I have to say that in the last 6 weeks we’ve been using this it has proved itself invaluable.

Great item – but be aware: 1) there is no readout/ gauge (you’ll never know the *actual* humidity), 2) you can’t set in 5% increments (there’s only 4 settings – inc 50% or 60% but not the 55% I want), 3) it’s not as quiet as you expect, and it heats the air too, 4) a very small tank, you need to empty it every single day – no good if you go away for a weekend, let alone longer.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersNeeding to replace a different make of dehumidifier, I read the Which? Magazine Feb 2019 test report on dehumidifiers with great interest and learned about desiccant dehumidifiers. The Meaco DD8L was a Best Buy and appealed to me as it has a laundry setting – just what I needed in the flat I’ve recently downsized to. I can confirm that this really works efficiently and dries laundry quickly, leaving it soft, and is economic to run. It’s easy to move the DD8L around, to empty the water tank and to clean the filter, which doesn’t need replacing as with refrigerant dehumidifiers. It looks good, too, and really is an all round Best Buy! Highly recommended.

Excellent dehumidifier that efficiently takes moisture out of the air. The auto settings work well, switching it on and off as required and it’s reasonably quiet as well. The laundry feature is good for hanging wet clothes up indoors Be aware that this is a condenser rather than refrigerant based unit so the air it expels is warmer than the ambient air temperature (in my experience only a few degrees warmer – but haven’t properly measured it). For me that’s actually a bonus in my house which is hard to keep warm, but if you have issues with needing to keep the temperature down as well as the humidity, then you may want to use a refrigerant model instead.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHaving initially looked at the cheaper end of the market for dehumidifiers I finally decided to purchase two of these for a damp problem in a tenanted two-bedroom flat. One of these dehumidifiers alone would probably have solved the problem but the two working together decreased the drying out time very considerably. They are very well made and are almost silent in operation. I would thoroughly recommend this product and suggest that any concerns over excessive electricity usage are unfounded.

Golden Review Award: 29 From Our UsersOur top-floor flat was recently identified as having a major problem with condensation due to a lack of ventilation in the kitchen and bathroom, which led to unsightly mold growth in various rooms. The recommendation was to purchase a de-humidifier and after researching this online we decided upon this model as a WHich magazine ‘best-buy’. I cannot praise it enough as it has eliminated the damp from the flat after running it solidly for 3 or 4 days. The amount of water it takes out the air, is remarkable and I would have no hesitation in recommending this product. It can easily be lifted in one hand and re-positioned anywhere in the flat. We were advised to place it in the hallway just outside the kitchen where the majority of the condensation was coming from, and there it sits happily doing it’s job very effectively. We empty it of water in the morning and let it run all day, or until it decides that the amount of condensation has reached a certain level, before turning itself off. On the recommended setting, the noise from the de-humidifier is negligible but when set in laundry mode, it is quite noisy, but closing the door behind you solves that. The air filter catches a lot of fluff, etc., so needs to be cleaned once a week or so. Cleaning of the filter could not be easier. Our problems with condensation are now solved thanks to this particular de-humidifier.

This is brilliant! I did some research and read a lot of reviews on dehumidifiers, and found that I needed a desiccant one as they cope far better with cold temperatures. I wanted this for the conservatory as I had put up wooden blinds, (mainly so that the birds didn’t hit the windows!), and was a bit worried when black mold was appearing on the side that faces the glass. There is a small radiator in the conservatory but not enough to keep it warm, and there are several large plants giving off moisture. On purchasing the Meaco, I was amazed at the amount of water that it sucks out of the air. There are several fan speeds and settings on this machine, and you can set it for constant, or 1-4 hours. On constant it switches itself off once the ideal moisture content in the air it reached. There is also a setting for if you are drying clothes. To empty the water well, you pull it from the bottom, at the rear of the dehumidifier. There is a lid over the well with a hole in to pour the water out. As far as effectiveness is concerned, I was able to brush the mold off the blinds after a few days. I now put the dehumidifier on for an hour a day to keep any damp away. Brilliant item.

I have a 2 bedroom end terraced house, which gets very very bad condensation on all windows of the house. I bought this product a month ago and I must say I am very pleased with it!

Although it does not clear ALL windows in my property, it does prevent the condensation from forming upstairs if I put the humidifier on the landing. Also, I do not have to put my heating on upstairs as it brings out lots of heat which helps my heating bills considerably.

As it does not clear all my windows in my house, it has halved by problem so it’s still a really good product!

Undoubtedly a superb product. Bought it to keep the boat dry over the winter as the previous compressor based one had died. After coming back from a 2 week holiday into British weather, the washing was taking ages to dry, so I suggested we give the Meaco a trial run… Well, it’s so good I think I’m going to have to buy one for the house. It dried washing in a couple of hours. It’s easy to use, and easy to empty when not “plumbed in” – and it’s easy to “plumb in” with the included hose.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe love this machine. It is sooo effective and we would have been lost without it! It is not cheap, but it does a good job. We have soo much laundry and this keeps use alive during the winter months. I have it on every time I do the washing and I can see the difference in how quickly/slow my washing dries with and without the machine.
Our last machine broke after just two seasons, but we believe this was due to the neighbours doing some heavy construction in the building which we think blocked the machine as our entire flat was cover in tiny leyer of white dust from the construction. We replaced it with the same model and is great! We had it on last winter and will be using this time again. will post if anything changes….

6 months in and this thing is still working great! – use it every day and get 2 buckets of water from it. its great for keeping allergies at bay as dust mites take water from the air. If there is little moisture – no mites!
it does do the job when drying clothes, however it tends to make them too dry and difficult to iron. – a good backup for a rainy day though.
its probably worth it just for the heating part, we use it instead of the heating its miles more economical – only problem is you cant use it to control humidity in summer its just too hot!.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersOn the plus side: works extremely well. I had a very humid ground floor Edwardian flat, with serious condensation problems on the windows, rust in the back boxes of electrical sockets on the external walls, peeling wallpaper with black mould underneath,… I tried passive moisture absorbers, which did nothing. This machine extracted about 4L of water per day, bringing the humidity down to 55%, and completely removing the window condensation. Being a dessicant design, it works well regardless of temperature. It’s also great for drying a rack of clothes in winter: stick it in a closed room, turn it up to max, and your clothes will be dry in no time.

On the minus side: it eats a *lot* of power. Your electricity bills will shoot up when you start using this. Now I’ve dried out my flat (over several months), I just use this during late autumn/early winter, when condensation is at its worst. In spring/summer, you’re much better off opening a window. Other designs (i.e., non-dessicant designs) might be more power efficient. It’s also not great at detecting when the target humidity level is reached, and keeps running until the air is a lot dryer than the targeted level.

Can’t praise this dehumidifier enough. Expensive but worth every penny. The atmosphere in the room changes with its use and becomes warmer and dryer. So after a couple of days the dehumidifier does not need to work as hard and goes into standby, but checks the air every half hour. Even emptying it isn’t too much of a hassle either. :))

Has been an absolute life saver over the winter and so good it’s changed my mind over getting double glazing. This type of dehumidifier is not good for getting rid of humidity in hot summers days as it will increase the temperature significantly. A compresser dehumidifier would be better for that. But working at cool temperatures it transforms a small cold uninsulated house.

  51. FerdinaVandiver says:

You will be surprised how much water gets collected in a day. I hate that the water container is at the back so it’s not convenient when it’s time to empty and the power cord always gets in the way. Surely a design error. Be careful when handling the water container because it gets heavy and the handle at the middle is awkwardly designed.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI had my doubts whether a dehumidifier would do the job in our house which suffered from fairly bad condensation on the upstairs windows and front door, as well as some pretty bad damp patches that have gradually appeared over the last year, its an old house and not very well insulated, decided to go with this Meaco dd8l dehumidifier after doing some research of various makes and models. As i said i had my doubts whether this would help with our situation but i couldn’t have been more wrong. We placed the unit on the landing and ran it on the highest fan and humidity setting for 3 days, after a few hours on running it on the first day we could notice the upstairs wasn’t as cold as it usually was, the air was definitely dryer (initially we were emptying the tank up to 3 times a day), by the second day there was no more condensation on the windows upstairs on the mornings and by the 3rd day there was no condensation on the front door, we then changed the setting to the lower fan and recommended humidity setting (the one with the thumbs up icon), the unit started to go into sleep mode then as the humidity level had been reached and now it just comes on around once an hour to check the air and if all ok it goes back into sleep mode after about 5 mins, if not, the fan will run until it reached relative humidity again. Its a fantastic unit that really works, our upstairs is no longer a few degrees colder then the rest of the house and condensation and damp have vanished, highly recommend purchasing this.

However, this what I have to use initially. The wire at the bottom of the unit comes in the way of emptying and loading the water tank. This could have been designed better. Overall quite pleased so far on the performance of the unit.

Does exactly what it is designed to do – reduces RH in damp conditions. The only problem is it does raise the temperature in the room quite a lot which will be fine during the winter but a bit overpowering during the summer. Not too noisy but some people probably couldn’t slepp in the same room when its running. No burning smells as described by some. Water collector is easily removed for disposal.

    Absolutely fantastic.

Probably too small for a medium 4 bedroom house (if you were using this to keep the whole house consistently dry), therefore more suited to 3 bedroom or smaller. Absolutely great at drying clothes / laundry due to the output of a few extra degrees.

Really good piece of kit. It is quiet and effective – so effective that my house plants are shedding their leaves – they preferred the damp atmosphere of our basement room sunk into a Welsh hillside. It does need emptying fairly often, however, but I guess that’s confirmation of its effectiveness.

Awesomely efficient, slim and compact. Not as quiet as I expected but overall I think this is an excellent product. I am amazed how much water it extracts every day and it has helped massively to tackle the damp walls in our house. Very pleased with this product and would recommend it unreservedly. It was also delivered within 24 hours of ordering.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWe felt the difference in a couple of days. The Meaco is quiet on its lowest setting, and powerful on its highest setting. We like the fact that warmer air comes out of the dehumidifier – it helps heat the room in this cold spring weather. It took a couple of weeks for the general humidity in the house to go down but now the whole house is warmer and feels drier and more comfortable. The problem room (brick and glass sunroom) went down from 75% humidity to 45% and has stayed there for several months. Excellent result. Finally we can sit in our sunroom without getting cold and damp!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThe delivery of this product ordered direct from Meaco, was fast and very efficient. It was well packaged, and very simple to set up and use. Just basically plug in and go. We decided to purchase this product based on the fact that family members had owned for several years a Meaco de-humidifer which worked great.

We have recently moved to a bungalow, which is incredibly well insulated and has been suffering a lot from condensation on the inside of the windows, especially on these cold mornings we are having. Our bedroom is the worst, first thing in the morning when we get up the window is soaked. I know opening windows is an option, but not such a good one when it’s freezing outside.

We decided to invest in a de-humidifer, but which one?, there is so many on the market. We knew Meaco was a good make, and initially purchased a normal compressor dehumidifer made by Meaco, it worked perfectly but seemed to make the room cold. We thought that it would make the room warmer, but all it did was blow the air around making a draft. It definitely removed the moisture from the air, but we wanted one that warmed the air too. We did a bit of digging and found we should have bought a ‘Desiccant’ model, not a Compressor. the desiccant model warms the air as well as removing the moisture. They are slightly more expensive but are so much better in my opinion.

We contacted Meaco direct through their contact details on the Amazon page and we explained our predicament and asked if we could swap the unit for the model above which is a desiccant de-humidifer. The chap said yes no problem, “you must re-package the one you have now in all its original packaging and box”. He said the Delivery driver would bring our new De-humidifer and take the one we have now away at the same time, so basically a swap, we just paid the difference in price between the cost of the two units. True to his word the driver came 2 days later and brought us the DD8L Meaco model……it was fantastic service from Meaco, especially considering it was our mistake in the first place buying the wrong one.

The DD8L is a great little machine, and it does exactly what it says it does, and it warms the air too – fantastic. There is not a day that goes by in autumn and winter when we haven’t used it. We no longer have any condensation issues, unless I have been cooking and forgotten to switch it on. We keep it in the kitchen most of the time, and I flick it on when I am cooking, especially pasta, potatoes etc which causes a lot of steam, and our hob extractor is not the greatest.

When we first purchased the machine we had it running most of the day, just until it removed the moisture problem that we had, however now we find it’s only necessary to switch it on once a day for a while. The cost of running the unit is negligible really, especially as it acts like a little heater too. It’s not instant heat, but after a while it definitely takes the chill off on a cold morning or afternoon.

The other great feature of the DD8L is the clothes drying option. We don’t have a tumble drier we find the Meaco works great, we put the clothes on an airer, and set the unit going in the smallest room we have. It takes it a while but it definitely dries your clothes no problem. It has two other settings too, and it automatically cuts off when the humidity level is reached, so it will not keep running and running. The water holding tank is a good size, plus you have the option, and the pipe to attach, to allow it to run into a drain if you need that option.

We have loaned it out to family members after they have had a water leak, and I have to say I missed my little Meaco when it was away. After a few days our condensation was back, and I was desperately in need of its return. A great product that I wouldn’t be without, we should have bought one years ago. As for the company Meaco, they are spot on and I would definitely recommend both them and this product.

Really pleased with this product. We have a damp bedroom problem in the main bedroom or rather did have. Wallpaper peeling and black mould starting after we had decorated the room.) It’s damp no longer and it looks after the whole house as well. It’s very quiet and I can sleep with no problem when it’s running near the foot of my bed.

Brilliant de-humidifier! Not noisy at all, very efficient, the amount of water we had in our atmosphere was insane and the dehumidifier keeps on top of it. It dries my washing the same day! Brilliant purchase. The antibacterial setting is brilliant as I have a young baby, and it turns all the bacteria in the air into dust!!

We did a lot of research before buying this product and I have to say it’s worth every penny. We put it on for about an hour in the morning and about 2 hours in the evening. Our house is bone dry! We have it in our main bedroom, but leave the doors open and it will take care of the whole up stairs. Very happy customer!

Got this in an outdoor garage that sits semi underground – the exit hose is run to a drain and the unit has been running for a couple weeks now. The garage has dried out and now shows no sign of any damp. Because of the exit temperature of the air it is also warm in there too. So far so good.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersMy workshop is an old stone barn built into sloping ground. Pretty much unheated, it’s always cool and damp, but the last few winters, surface water has actually been coming through the stonework and running across the floor. So depressing! My tools were rusting, paint wouldn’t dry and I was desperate. Previous dehumidifiers have not been very effective, but I saw that this dessicant type is supposed to work at lower temperatures, so without any great expectations I thought I’d give it a try. Wow! Every few hours the tank would fill up. I couldn’t always be around to empty it, so I put the machine on the mezzanine for some height and fitted the tube supplied as per instructions to bypass the tank. So easy. The 2 metres of tube supplied neatly fits into garden hose to carry the water a further 3 metres out of the building. Although (until I dig a moat) water is still sometimes coming in, the main working area is dry and comfortable, and actually warmer! After a couple of weeks I don’t know yet what it’s doing to my fuel bills, but I’ve turned it lower now so I reckon it’ll be worth it anyhow.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersI have been using this produce for a while now and now feel I can give honest feedback about it.
My house suffers from ‘condensation damp’ since new Double Glazing was installed a few years ago, painting over it was ok for a while until we got to late Autumn/Winter when drying clothes in the house was needed and so the mould would reappear…until now!
I live in a large 3 Bed Detached house and as long as the Dehumidifier is positioned in the correct place (bottom of the stairs) it will clear the whole house of condensation so no more wet window sills in the morning! It did take about 4 weeks on continuous 24 hours a day full power use to get the house down to normal humid levels but since then it just works when it needs to (in fact we are surprised when it does need to work now).
Leaving it switched on 24 hours a day it ‘scans’ the air every hour for a few minutes and then ‘decides’ if it needs to be brought in to action, if not then it goes back to ‘sleep’ until the next ‘scan’ happens. It has a few settings but the main ones are ‘full power’ which is advised to be used when first bought and will switch off when the house is 40% humidity, a ‘standard’ setting-this will bring the house to around 50% humidity which is correct for this Country then switch off and a setting which is for drying clothes in the house; this can be timer set too.
Overall, a brilliant piece of kit which is better than expected!

For the short time we used this it was obvious it was a quality piece of kit, but after a couple of months it started to cut out for no reason. We would have preferred to talk it through with the supplier but there was no online option to do so after that time period so we had to return it. If we could have talked to the supplier we would probably have opted for a replacement.

Small, lightweight, yet effective at removing water from the atmosphere. We’ve only been running this for two days but are really impressed. We were warned it may be noisier than some other dehumidifiers but so far it’s not a problem at all. The real bonus is it’s weight though, for an older couple it’s so easy to move around. We’re happy.

This dehumidifier arrived at my door one day earlier than I expected and it could not have been more timely! It was the day the weather changed and we had a series of sudden, heavy showers. I knew the cellar was damp – which was the reason for ordering the dehumidifier – but I was unprepared for the gush of water that seeped through the walls causing a significant pool of water. But, by then, the humidifier had stood for an hour (as per the instruction booklet) and was turned on, chugging away, doing what it does best. It blows out warm air and makes a fair amount of noise but as it was in the cellar, I don’t find it intrusive. In fact, the noise was helpful because I could hear when it stopped and needed emptying.
In the first twenty four hours, I emptied the reservoir three times and it was full again by the morning. But the cellar felt warm and dry and there was no further water on the floor. Now, I guess, the dehumidifier is sucking moisture out of the rest of the house as well.
So this model is doing its job, efficiently and effectively. I have no idea what it’s going to cost to run it as it’s only been in place for four days. But, it has already ,add a big difference.
Why four stars and not five? I think I would have benefitted from having a larger reservoir. This is not the smallest model available, I deliberately chose a model with a larger reservoir. But, having to empty it so often is a pain. That said however, it is easy to empty and easy to replace and the minute it goes back, the dehydrator chugs back into action. It is small, easily portable and has clean lines of design.
I have no idea whether this model will have a long life – it has a three year guarantee – so I’m hoping that it will prove to be be long-lived. It’s certainly making a big difference so far.

This is excellent at reducing humudity in the home. Actually bought this to bring a condensation problem in my loft space under control, which it did brilliantly. We now use it to dry clothes which aren’t suitable to put in the dryer. A god send in winter months when you can’t hang washing out side. We simply put the washing on airers in the conservatory and put this into laundry mode. Dries woollens in about six hours and stops your house being full of humidity.

Bought this as I couldn’t stand the steamy window and condensation. This dehumidifier is recommended by Which and also gets a lot of great reviews here. So far, it has been absolutely amazing. I am impressed with the amount of water it can collect. The mould hasn’t come back since I started using it. Will need time to judge on built quality but for now I really love it.

Though I have no benchmark standard this dehumidifier has completely cured streaming window condensation throughout our 3-bed semi. It is left on all the time, at night the fan reduced to a slower, quieter speed. We tried shutting one of the bedroom doors once to check and the condensation was there in the morning so we know the DD8L is the catalyst for complete reduction. Highly recommend it.

I started researching dehumidifiers to see if that would solve our damp problem after my wife bought some bulbs for planting, stored them in the kitchen and they went mouldy. Although generally expensive, it was obvious that you ‘get what you pay for’. I researched Meaco and was undecided between a couple, but then I looked at the video about the DD8L on the Meacon web site, and was sold! We have a 3-bed semi without central heating. During the winter our house is heated with 3 gas fires that provide sufficient, targeted heat. Over night we do develop quite a lot of condensation. Within 6 hours of plugging in the Meaco, dead easy to operate, the water container was full. Emptied again before we went to bed, it had filled again by the morning, but no condensation! Even the back door, which has a metal band across it that’s always wet was dry.Now into the third day the house is definitely dryer and condensation is virtually non-exisitent. Time will tell, but this looks like the best purchase to remove all of the residual damp throughout the house. I would highly recomment the DD8L.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersHeavy on the electrickery, but very efficient.

I noticed some people had said they didn’t understand the key on the buttons. They are logical, although I could understand why there may be slight confusion, but nothing to warrant saying other than an excellent dehumidifier.

It is working wonders. On average sucking 6 litres of water out of our house a day. It would be more, but it relies upon being emptied.

Noise wise, on full blast it’s pretty noticeable, but now on the low setting, it’s just a little background noise.

    Full marks!

Bought this for use on a boat through the winter. What a difference it has made! Where clothes & bedding sometime felt damp this has now gone completely. In the first few days the amount of water it was producing was incredible at around 8L per day. After a week or two this went down to about a litre per day. Even lockers that sometimes smelt musty are now fresh and dry. It’s compact, very quiet and produces ambient background heating that raises the temperature by 6 or 7 degrees and so ideal against light frost! I would recommend it to anyone.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersBought this for a north facing conservatory over winter with a relatively flat roof. This works at low temperatures – not all do. The instructions say leave on constant, and it will switch itself on and off when needed. This it does and we needed to empty it first thing in the morning and before going to bed.
It worked great, no condensation at all and created heat as well so the conservatory was actually reasonably warm all winter.

(for info we have a 20 year old bungalow, with new PVC windows and a new conservatory with glass roof -no blinds)

The water tank is not big and is not in a great place (electric cable right beside it), if you are away overnight unless someone can empty it, it will only work until full, which in our case over the very cold was about 12 hours. It does have a continuous drain hose, but not any use in the conservatory

Got our electricity bill in the other day and there was no difference in the use from this winter to last winter so that was good news.

Very pleased with this dehumidifier, it is quite unobtrusive and I was amazed at how much water it collected when used to dry a few items of clothes.

We bought this to use at the start of the season in our caravan, not yet tried it but based on the performance so far I would recommend it as I do not envisage it struggling to cope with a larger space.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a very good buy. Didn’t give it a full 5 star rating because of a couple of annoying glitches. One is tray sensor – often when you remove the tray when full of water, the dehumidifier starts up again. It should, in line with other products be “clever” enough to know when the tray is out for emptying. Also, the controls could be improved by making each setting totally independent of each other, regardless of which order you press the buttons in.

That said, it works fantastically well for removing moisture efficiently (our abode was often around at 80-100% humidity), and the laundry option is great for drastically reducing drying time for clothes. It also has a useful side effect of raising room temperature to a cosy level – ideal for draughty rooms. Light to carry between rooms, and slimline as well as being quite a subtle presence make this product seem less industrial and quite domesticated. The filter is very easy to access and clean, and the tank water level can very cleverly be seen from either front or back of the machine.

    Highly recommended.

liteweight works brilliantly in my other french house, also heat produced acts as frost protector upstairs when it get’s really cold.starts and stops with night rate tariff on electric timer plugtop so is cheap to leave running 24/7.this is the 2nd unit ive purchased. last yr temperature dropped to – 13 c.inside the house.recorded on a max.min mercury thermometer despite 600mm +stone outside walls.this 2nd unit will be setup in downstairs bathroom piped for continous drainage mode.my old french house has dampness due to roof design and pevailing wind so unless lived in and constantly heated a solution had to be devised..the anglophiles who winter it out still had frozen pipes etc. even though they have stoves and heating.ive recommended it to a family who have damp problems in their french holiday home nearby in their granny annex in the basement/cellar which was tanked out and refitted by a local builder .when the weather is really wet, ground water ingresses regardless of the pumped drainage system . leaving it damp.compressor machines do not function at all in this situation.

Been using this for an hour a day in a bedroom, it’s been taking out around a litre of water a day, so that a litre of moisture not sticking to the windows or walls.
On low speed it’s quite but not enough to sleep with, gives of a smell which is not unhealthy but a little strange.
Have also bought a digital humidity meter to keep an eye on how the unit lows it down when on, room is at 72% on a damp day and will reduce that to around 65% after an hours use, did run it as a test for a few hour and got it down to 55%, so seems to work well.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAn excellent piece of kit. I read all the reviews regarding other dehumidifiers on the market which all had very poor reviews, this model had the highest reviews of them all and for good reason.
I switched it on straight out of the box and within a few minutes there was water in the bottom of the tray, within 3 hours of running on medium in our north facing bedroom the tray was full and the room felt warm (it’s quite a large room). In the 2 days we’ve had it we must have emptied the full tray 4 times and that’s with it just running during the day.
I’m a light sleeper and live in a rural location with no noise at all at night and therefore i wouldn’t like to sleep with it in the same room with it running, even on the low setting, for other people it would be ok I think.
It’s dead easy to use, lightweight easily moved to different parts of a large house and isn’t visibly noticeable at all.
I bought it as we had a bad damp problem in this north facing bedroom and it seems to have dried this up in two days.
It looks pretty well made and robust enough to last.
I know it’s early days but My wife and i are thrilled with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Bought the Meaco Dehumidifier to cure a wet window problem( yes to much cloths drying indoors),after a few days I noticed all the windows are now no longer dripping wet, this is after emptying the water tray a number of times.
I then did what the manufacturer recommends and put the meaco in a central place which is at the bottom of the stairs in my case, since then I have noticed all the house seems to get to more or less the same temperature, it use to be very cold in the hall, stair’s, and landing.
As far as niose yes it is a little on the noisy side when at full belt but hey its doing heck of a job and onces the damp settles down and you set it on the thumbs up setting you just forget about it and leave it to regulate itself, up to now i don’t think its come on through the night except for the fan doing its half hour check of the humidity.
Great product would very much recommend this to anyone *****.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI’ve been having this for a month or more,
and it’s performing its job smoothly and efficiently as expected by other reviews.
I’m not giving it 5 stars for a few reasons.

    PROs:
    – Very efficient, I didn’t believe it was so true that you can actually leave it in the middle passage of your flat with doors open and the condensation just goes away everywhere. Ok, I’m dumb, but you don’t believe it until you see it.
    – The air filter is very easy to clean with your vacuum cleaner set on minimum speed. VERY easy.
    – A good set of options. Well, with a few more it would be perfect, but it’s good enough for this price range.
    – Efficiently drying your clothes indoor both by sucking the humidity and sending out a warm dry air flow, which if put directly under your clothes does the trick very quickly.
    – Sending out warm air in a One Bedroom while working, if your flat is well insulated, almost makes it unnecessary to use the heating system. It’s mid-December now and we only used the heating system twice and just because of guests, so what you spend in electricity, you actually partly save in heating.
    – Comes with a ionizer, you can feel the air more crispy and healthy, or maybe it’s just my imagination?

    CONs:
    – Not that silent, but still less noisy than its compressor counterparts.
    – As many already said, the water tank is quite small and needs emptying several times if you’re running it 24h. Of course it will stop when full, and you can use a discharge tube to use it continuously, but I don’t have the right place/setting to use that function in my flat unfortunately.
    – When removing the tank, which is often done several times during the day when working non-stop, you have to wait a few minutes for the vent to stop to make sure there is not too much further dripping from the discharge duct. I learnt this the hard way finding several times a small pool of water on the carpeting after coming back with the emptied tank, before I understood why.
    – No room humidity indicator, no display. The previous De’Longhi compressor type I was using was cumbersome, not that efficient and died soon, but had a fantastic display with all indicators. I guess you need to buy a hygrometer separately to be sure of the effective room humidity. I think this dehumidifier is not good in cellars where a specific humidity and temperature has to be maintained.

We live in a 200 year old property with 18″ thick walls and a serious condensation and damp problem.

We have to dry washing indoors as we have no outdoor area to facilitate.

We have had this machine now for over a month, the damp and condensation problems have gone completely. The machine is still extracting around 3 to 4 litres per day!

I am not sure what the running costs are and our property means the machine rarely switches to ‘stand by’ but to be honest, whatever the running costs it is worth it!

The new one is absolutely BRILLIANT the first day I put it on I was amazed how quite it is, it started taking 2 ltr a day for the first week a week later it is taking 1 later per day and getting less and less as time goes on the humidity is now down to around 42 rh and stays around that my home now does not feel anyway as damp. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this product it’s GREAT.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis Meaco DD8L Dehumidifier could not be any better it does all it says in the write up about it.
I have another dehumidifier a good make and to clear the condensation from the living room windows I had to direct the warm air on to the window and move it about to do all the window. It only did the living room but had no effect at all on the windows upstairs at all. This little darling Meaco DD8L is situated in the same place as the other one was, I no longer have to move it about now and it clears all the windows in the living room and upstairs too. (I live in a three bed roomed house) I am over the moon with this dehumidifier.

This is a great little machine. We leave our caravan for eight months and it could get damp. This machine works really well in checking the humidity on a regular basis and staying on when needed. We have set it up to drain through a floor vent so the water collection tank never needs emptying. This seller was also very impressive, I ordered this machine just before we were leaving and they got it to me in one day for no extra charge. Fantastic. I would recommend.

I live on a barge part of the year and have seen this and other dehumidifiers in action. I have used three older models of Meaco dehumidifier. All of which have been good but this latest model seem to work the best and use less electricity than it’s predecessors. I used one at my house to dry out the plaster in a utility room that had been flooded after the washing machine upstairs leaked.
It works so well I now don’t use my tumble dryer. I just put my laundry on a clothes horse and the dehumidifier dries them nicely. The fact that it works at lower temperatures than compressor dehumidifiers is a big plus.

We already have a Meaco DD8L and were so impressed with it that we got another one – the first one working in the laundry room, the second in the bathroom.
Neither room has ventilation that can keep up, especially after a shower or when drying washing, so the dehumidifiers are essential and certainly make light work of the problem.
    I would highly recommend them.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have been using the dehumidifier for about a month and so far it has been excellent. It is being used on a boat and is ideal, because its operating temperature is much lower than a compressor dehumidifier. It also kicks out some heat which is an advantage for a boat. So far the tank fills up after 2-3 days which is not a problem, and the noise is not too bad.
Running cost is OK, in a month the dehumidifier has cost about 9 to run set at 50% RelH, although it does depend on the unit costs of electricity. Ambient RelH is 80%.
    Overall very pleased.

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersI don’t write too many reviews. I only bother when I feel an item is really good (or bad!) I am happy to say that he Meaco DD8L definitely falls into the former catergory.

My wife and I own a small 25 foot cabin cruiser and spend a LOT of time on board (much to the chargrin of the marina owner who keeps dropping unsubtle hints that we really ought to go home at some point!). This year the horrendous weather conditions have helped to create a rather unpleasant situation aboard, namely condensation. We have found that after several days of continuous occupation, the interior cabin’s soft furnishings felt damp, cold and clammy and that black mould was starting to form on the hard surfaces of the walls, windows etc. The boat had also started to smell decidedly musty due to to the fact that the endless days of driving rain have prevented us from opening the windows and letting the breeze blow through.

After speaking to a couple of old timers who informed us that condensation was the probable cause of our woes due to the amount of time we were spending on board, I did some research and decided to take the plunge and buy the DD8L. It has been in operation for only 48 hours but the difference is already astounding.

When the box arrived about 48 hours after purchase, I opened it to find a neat, smallish unit that looked well constructed. As I had read the reviews on Amazon prior to purchase, I was not expecting a set of instructions to be included, and knew that they were available online for download should I need them. I didn’t – the control panel is so simple and self-explanatory that my 6 year old could work it out. I took the unit straight round to the boat, plugged it in and switched it on. I had a couple of jobs to do and so pottered about for half an hour. Before I left, I checked the tank and was amazed to see that a fair bit of water had already been collected.

24 hours later, we arrived at the boat and I eagerly opened up to see how much water was in the tank. The first thing I noticed on entering was how much fresher the air smelt in the cabin. After feeling the curtains, bedding and cushions I found that the horrible clamminess was gone and everything felt dry. I saw that the water tank was full and the unit had turned itself off. After emptying the tank, it switched back on and away it went again. As we were spending the night on board, I monitored the dehumidifier throughout the evening. It ran for approximately an hour before clicking into standby, periodically coming back on for about 15 minutes before going back into standby. Later I cooked a meal and made a couple of cuppas, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the unit seemed to be extracting the steam from the cooking and kettle as it was being generated. The boat windows stayed condensation free and the hard surfaces stayed dry. We got into bed whilst the unit was in standby. Unfortunately it woke us up during the night when it clicked on, but this was due to the fan being on the highest setting. I turned it down to the lowest, and we had no trouble dropping back off to sleep whilst it was running in this mode. In the morning I was once again amazed when I saw that all the boat windows which would usually be running with water were bone dry, despite the fact that they are single glazed and the outside temperature had gone down to only 2 degrees during the night. My wife and I both agreed that despite being woken up by the unit, we both felt more rested than usual due to the freshness of the air in the cabin. I don’t know whether the ioniser feature is responsible for this, or if it is just due to the fact that the dehumidifier itself has purified the air, but whichever it is, it is very welcome.

I have found only one small negative. When I moved the unit whilst it was running, the rotating element seemed to catch on the casing causing a rattling noise. I found that if I tilted the unit forwards and then replaced it back on its feet the rattling stopped again. I probably should have turned it off before I moved it, so I’m not knocking any points off for this.

I am extremely pleased with the Meaco DD8L. It’s not the cheapest dehumidifier on the market, but for boat use I think it is absolutely perfect, and the performance so far has been nothing short of staggering. I am planning to leave it running over the winter with the supplied hose in place so that the unit can drain continuously, I will update this review once the results are in.

5 very well deserved stars for this one!

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersDon’t be put off by its small size, it is a massive dehumidifier in a small shell. It has a variety of settings: Fan: low, high and laundry. Mode: Max, normal, min and laundry. A timer 1hr,2hr,4hr and 8hr. Plus an Ion mode.It also has a very clear and easy to see tank level.
    Pros: Its easy to use
Easy to house (due to it’s compact size)
    Very efficent (shockingly so!)
    Lightweight, so easy to move.
Looks good too rather than the old square clunky ones we had before.
It’s cheap to run but produces heat as a by-product. 🙂

Cons: It’s tank is small. I find it fills up I run it for more than 4 hrs. So I can’t see how it could be used on a boat in the winter (as suggested) as you’d have to return every day to empty the tank.
It tests the air to see if it should extract any moisture, so really it should be left on, however the fan is fairly noisy as it circulates the air. As I said on the pro this produces a small amount of heat and almost no electric being used.
Although I like the option of setting it for a few hours I’d rather be able to set it to come on about 5/6am to combat condensation early in the morning. Instead I have to set it running for a few hours late at night.

Having said all that, I would not be without it and if mine were old and worn out I’d by another one immediately without hesitation. I have had many others and this IS the best I have ever used. A really good buy.
