The battery came in an impenetrable plastic pack which took twenty five minutes to get into, blunted my scissors, damaged my jumper and my hands. Its a battery not nuclear waste! Much as I like Ryobi stuff, I had to dock a star here.

There are cheap copies of Ryobi batteries but you probably get what you pay for. It’s difficult to give 5* for longevity and battery life until you’ve used them for a long time. Value for money? They’re expensive.

This is an absolutely essential upgrade over the 2ah or smaller batteries included in most starter sets. High draw activities such as cutting with an angle grinder used to leave me charging half way through cutting a single pipe with the 2ah. This 5ah barely even notices.

The built in power gauge is really convenient too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long lasting

I have just got into the Ryobi eco-system and my main go-to batteries were 5ah for my Team Yellow tools. These batteries are substantial in weight but not overly so, size is slightly more than the 2ah but you are getting much more run time and power.

Ryobi chargers supplied with tool kits are generally 1.5 or 2 amp meaning this battery can take anywhere from 2 to 3.5 hours to charge from empty. There is a 5amp charger available which would allow you to charge this battery in 1 hour from empty which I would strongly recommend.

The only downside about Ryobi batteries which I do not like is the exposed – / + terminals which could become shorted. A protective cover to prevent this would be a nice addition and are available to 3d-print, though Ryobi supplying a few with each battery would be better.

Surprisingly good saw. I haven’t used it much, just for trimming but it’s fine. Only tricky bit is fitting the chain. I’ve other chain saws and none are as fiddly as this one. But hey, it works well.
