    Very good chainsaw
First of all, do not use ‘aftermarket’ batteries, they won’t last. I have a few 4ah original ones and they do the job. The pictures show a 7 meter tree that broke in the middle in a storm. It did take multiple batteries and charges, but in the end it got through a job that a tree surgeon quoted twice as much as the cost of the chainsaw for .. it literally is already paid off. Yes it leaks a bit of oil, but they all do. On the plus side, it easily cuts the 30cm diameter quoted, and because of it’s small size goes into narrow spaces and cut this 40cm trunk.
Definitely worth the money and highly recommended.

I bought this battery for my lawnmowe
I bought this battery for my lawnmower. I am a little disappointed as I had hoped it would stay charged longer than it does. I am reconciled to the fact I need at least two of these to comfortably cut my lawns when the grass has grown a few centimetres. I’m sure most lawnmower batteries are the same. This is the price we pay for the convenience of going cordless. I will be buying another shortly.

    Pretty effective chainsaw!
The work of removing storm damaged limbs from the garden trees became easy using the saw. I didn’t count the number of cuts per charge but I certainly got quite a few.
Being battery operated it is light to use. So far I am very happy.

Word of wisdom: the end of the instruction shows to empty oil tank to the small canister provided with it (DON’T THROW IT AWAY!), follow that to the letter. Otherwise you’ll have oil spills everywhere. My other Black&Decker chainsaw on pole holds oil much better. Ryobi: field for improvement, hence one star less.

Battery powered tools like this has tendency to be quite weak and not being able to do harder jobs. This one is surprisingly performant and if you follow guides of cutting so the chain is not pressed it cuts like hell. It’s not suitable for a full size tree, but deals well with arm thick branches. This comes at cost of battery draining. I have 3 working Ryobi batteries, but only 1 Lithium+ model and only this one works with that chainsaw. Older type would start unloaded, but will not cut – not enough power available. Keep that in mind in planning your battery use: 2.5Ah battery was enough for about 20 thick cuts.

At the price (149) I’m satisfied with the product, however, at original price it would be way too expensive for the capabilities and limitations.

Powerhouse Battery for My Ryobi Collectio
As a big fan of Ryobi tools, I’ve come to rely on the RB18L50 battery. It packs a serious punch for tackling projects around the house and yard. Here’s what I love:

Impressive Power and Runtime: This 5.0Ah battery keeps my tools running for a long time, even the power-hungry ones. I can easily finish most DIY projects without needing to swap batteries.
Compatibility is Key: The ONE+ system is brilliant. This battery slots into all my Ryobi tools, from drills to saws.
Feels Well-Made: Solid construction, and I trust it to handle the bumps and drops of regular use.
Fuel Gauge: Love the 4-stage indicator lights so I always know how much juice I have left.
Minor Wish: Maybe a slightly faster charge time would be nice, but that’s just getting picky.

Overall: If you’re invested in the Ryobi ONE+ system, the RB18L50 is an essential addition. It’s a reliable and powerful battery that makes using my Ryobi tools even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

I know ryobi gets a bit of stick but it does what it does. My ryobi impact wrench does not compete with my dewalt one but it’s smaller so fits into spaces in my car that I couldn’t get the big one. The same goes for this chainsaw. It won’t compete with better ones and definitely wouldn’t come close to my stilh petrol one but it’s very convenient with no fiddling with carbs and mixes to get it started. It rips through firewood no problem and doesn’t take up much room in the car. Another bonus is that it’s very quiet compared to my petrol one so I can collect firewood from the local woods without disturbing anyone. It does absolutely tank the 5ah batteries that I have if I’m using it a lot but for basic pruning etc it’s perfect. If you just want to use it at home for chopping lots I’d recommend a 240v one however but for portability this is great.

    Bad product packaging
The battery came in an impenetrable plastic pack which took twenty five minutes to get into, blunted my scissors, damaged my jumper and my hands. Its a battery not nuclear waste! Much as I like Ryobi stuff, I had to dock a star here.

    Quality tool.
Hi. Purchased this as just the tool as plenty of Ryobi batteries and tools in hand. I found the tool light and comfortable in use and it went through the logs with ease. The build quality is typical of the brand and faultless. Not used a chain saw b4 but this tool gives confidence right out of the box. Would recommend.

    Reliable Ryobi
There are cheap copies of Ryobi batteries but you probably get what you pay for. It’s difficult to give 5* for longevity and battery life until you’ve used them for a long time. Value for money? They’re expensive.

I think as long as you manage your expectations on this product and don’t expect to become a Lumberjack overnight, you will be very happy.
Quickly and efficiently pollarded two weeping willows that were blocking out light at the rear of my property. Cuts through like butter, I used the 5.0A battery from my Ryobi hedge trimmer. No issues and loads of battery life left after the job completed. A great addition to my small Ryobi collection and for a least half the price a tree ‘expert’ would have charged me to deal with these trees and I now have a great little chainsaw. For those giving negative reviews on it’s ability I suggest you buy the appropriate tool for the job. A 500 Husqvarna might be more appropriate

    Long lasting
This is an absolutely essential upgrade over the 2ah or smaller batteries included in most starter sets. High draw activities such as cutting with an angle grinder used to leave me charging half way through cutting a single pipe with the 2ah. This 5ah barely even notices.

The built in power gauge is really convenient too.

    Genuine and long lasting
I have just got into the Ryobi eco-system and my main go-to batteries were 5ah for my Team Yellow tools. These batteries are substantial in weight but not overly so, size is slightly more than the 2ah but you are getting much more run time and power.

Ryobi chargers supplied with tool kits are generally 1.5 or 2 amp meaning this battery can take anywhere from 2 to 3.5 hours to charge from empty. There is a 5amp charger available which would allow you to charge this battery in 1 hour from empty which I would strongly recommend.

The only downside about Ryobi batteries which I do not like is the exposed – / + terminals which could become shorted. A protective cover to prevent this would be a nice addition and are available to 3d-print, though Ryobi supplying a few with each battery would be better.

I’ve tried un-branded copies previously but they didn’t last, whereas my Ryobi One+ batteries just keep going.
This 5Ah battery was on promotion at around the same price as the 2.5Ah battery, so it seemed to good to pass up. I thought it might be a little bulky, but (although a fraction heavier) it’s the same size as my 4Ah batteries.
Very happy with the price, performance and (hopefully) longevity.

This is well made and easy to maintain. The ONE+ battery concept is a long overdue idea. Have 3 other Ryobi battery powered units (drill, extended chainsaw branch lopper and leaf blower) all of which came with a battery and a charger. All batteries have different Amp Hours (Ah) ratings and all fit the chainsaw that wasn’t supplied with a battery. The chainsaw, like my other Ryobi tools, are as well made if not better than my old tools that they replace (some of which are highly rated names).

The saw is brilliant and makes light work of cutting through logs – I’ve used it on 6″ dia logs.
You cant use it out of the box unless you have also bought some bar & blade oil. A shame there’s no heads up in the literature. Otherwise this is a great bit of kit.

Good battery but this is now old stock
I have one of these ‘Ryobi RB18L50’ 5.0 amp and its a good battery compared to other 3rd party of similar capacity it is slightly heavier and probably using higher quality cells.
However, this is now old stock on sale, as the current 5.0amp battery sold by Ryobi is the RB1850X, different design and more expensive, but maybe more durable if they have not sat in a warehouse for x amount of time.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersYou'll be surprised how good this is.
I already have a petrol saw for work on thick logs.

The only poor reviews on this seem to be from people who thought they were buying the power of a petrol saw, but driven by battery .

I have a lot of wood that is about as thick as your thigh, or less, from trimming trees, and occasionally thicker.

This is perfect for the job of trimming the trees and then sawing into ca. 16″ lengths.

It cuts half the speed of my petrol saw, and that’s not a bad thing if you’re working in tight quarters or at awkward angles.

Working single handed, I can easily get about an hour and a half work out of an original Ryobi 4Ah battery.

Not sawing all the time, of course, but positioning for cutting, throwing into wheelbarrow etc.

Lighter to use than a petrol saw, but don’t forget helmet, boots and chaps! It’ll still cut your leg off, even it is battery.

Assembly and maintenance is very easy a well. Just check the tension every half hour of cutting, and check the saw oil level. It keeps well lubricated.

Get a file (and handle) for it, and a quick swipe every hour or so at the angle indicated in the chain, and it’ll cut quicker.

Replacement chains and bars very easy to get, and cheap as well, but *do* learn to sharpen your chain!

    Happy and safe sawing!

Expensive but puts all the cheaper pattern models in the shade. Provides better and longer power and charges faster and feels more substantial than the couple of replacement ones I bought a few months ago that last nowhere near as long as this. Cheap ones are OK for short jobs but if you want to do a decent job getb the proper battery it pays back over time

Easy to put together. Only quibble was chain arrived kinked and took some time to straighten, it was not damaged in any way. I would wear gloves though when fitting as the blades are quite sharp. Instructions are helpful, but I found it easier to watch a video on YouTube. You do get oil but only the bare minimum, so I would purchase extra if you are going to use it a lot. It does leak oil, mostly from the chain, so I would check the oil level every time before use. I would also spray the chain with wd40 for wood sap. Keep the chain lock and cover on when not in use and you are good to. Always wear proper clothing, gloves and eye protection.

    Costs more initially
I have a large number of Ryobi One+ power tools so I’m obviously a fan but I always baulked at the cost of the genuine Ryobi batteries and so purchased a number of pattern ones from Amazon. While initially they did the job and gave me a good stock of batteries over time they have started to fail or lose charge. Each time one fails I replace with a genuine Ryobi equivalent and the difference is remarkable. Tools like the leaf blower have more power with a genuine 5amp than with a clone 5 or 6amp and it’s the same with impact drivers and drills.
Clones are good to get a stock of batteries but in the long term genuine works out cheaper.

I love the Ryobi one+ range, have multiple gardening tools available from them and I’m slowly replacing my tools when they wear out to join the range. The simplicity of the plug and play is fantastic and the tooling is of high quality. I already had 1 of these batteries and while the charge time is great, it doesn’t quite cover all my garden jobs (30 foot long Laurel to cut) and a reasonable sized front/back garden to mow. 2 is more than sufficient. They are very expensive though and there are cheaper alternatives available, while they’re not recommended for use, if I require another one should the lifespan on these batteries start to diminish I’d be tempted to try them owing to the cost.

Then when I got the genuine ryobi battery the charge last at least 4x longer the power output for such as sanders is definitely more.. When I i used it on my belt sander you could here the difference and it never stopped and started like it did on the nongen one
