After seeing the Amazon reviews, I bought three of these to replace my previous Carbon Monoxide detectors which were nearing their end. You install the batteries and are ready to go. Instructions are crystal clear and the noise is LOUD. I have kept it as a free standing detector instead of wall mounting it. The only downside with that is the real possibility that you might inadvertently press the test button and end up listening to the noise. Happened with me twice already!

Taken on trust as no CO to detect – or is there. How do I know if it’s working as it should?

It’s in the lounge next to our gas fire, which I might add is new. I like it cause it’s small and is inconspicuous..
Our last one was a plug in, like this one better. Would recommend..

I prefer the smoke and CO alarms with replaceable batteries as have been caught out by ones with ‘7 years sealed for life’ lithium batteries which then last just a year or two. You then throw away the whole item just because the battery ran out. This item has powered up fine with the supplied AA batteries. I’ve no way of knowing if it will alarm if CO is detected, I’ve no way to test that. The self-test button works fine. I’m happy with the product.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt’s super easy to set up, but oh my giddy aunt, get some earplugs before testing the noise on it! PIERCING. Louder than my fire alarms. Worst noise ever. But it works, and that’s what counts.
Also: don’t place near cooker, it will go off when you click on the hob (if gas)
don’t block the back or front of it, it will go off (needs ventilation)
don’t put close to where you cook at all if possible, the build up of grease and steam water residue will make it go off.

My gas man pointed out that my old one was out of date, they only last so many years and I hadn’t looked at it for ages. Just because the battery works doesn’t mean the carbon monoxide sensor does!!! So got this the next day. Good price, loud noise.

Easy to set up as not hard-wired. Can be set freestanding on a shelf so very easy to fit as no need to drill into the wall or ceiling unless you choose to. Good value too when I bought 2 to help us comply with the impending change to Scottish legislation on smoke and CO detectors which, unlike most legislation, looks like it will apply to all existing and new houses and not just new ones after the regs become law.

Never used one before, however, as our boiler is getting older we felt it important to have one, particularly as it is housed in an airing cupboard in an occupied bedroom. It was easy to test and install as there are 2 options – a wall, or freestanding. Having checked with our heating engineer when boiler was serviced, he approved my plan of placing it on top of the wardrobe approximately 2 metres from the boiler, where it now sits.
Alarm is very neat, and makes no noise, well apart from when it would need to, and having tested it, it is very loud!
Item was also very reasonably priced.

Purchased to replace an expired one and I’ve had Kiddie products before and always found them to be reliable. Modern looking and discreet on a white wall. Good price.

Best part was hiding the old one in the back of my brother-in-law’s pigsty of a builders van. Old ones beep every 3 minutes so he had hell of a job finding out where it was under 5 years of trash and tools.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo, first of all I’d like to point out that it says on my order list that this was handed to the resident. It wasn’t. It was left in front of my front door where anyone could have picked it up and walked away with it and I would never have known it was there. So, thanks useless delivery driver.

Now that’s out of the way, the Carbonmonoxide Detector. So, it’s easy to setup. Take it out the box, put the three supplied batteries in and it beeps at you a few times. After your initial panic that you’re about to die, grab the little ‘Quick Setup Guide’ and read through and learn the beeps were good. After that, if you’re mounting it to a wall, mark out your holes, two drill holes, pop in the Rawl plugs (Yes, I spelled that right. Go check!) and hook your unit on it. If, like me, you live in a rented house and holes in walls = bad, then just pop it on a cupboard or something not too far from your potential death source ie boiler. Then, it just flashes once every 30 seconds. Job done.

I hope I never need it and that this was a ‘waste’ of 13 but do you know what, it brings peace of mind. The flashing isn’t so bright that it wakes me up, but bright enough that when I’m getting dressed I notice it, which is all I need to know it’s still alive. I am not looking forward to the day the batteries die, as it apparently beeps every minute or so and the laws of sod say that this must happen at 3am in the middle of winter!

It was a lot easier to fit than most similar units as you can use the back panel as a template to make sure the fixings are in the correct. The units self test worked perfectly

Very easy to install: it stands on top of a cupboard next to the boiler. Clear instructions. Loud alarm. Robust. Had a boiler service just after “installation” and the engineer tested it a said that it seemed to be a good piece of kit.

I don’t know what to say on this one, the batteries are in, it tested well, and the light flashes every few seconds to show me it’s working. I am supposed to fix it somewhere between the boiler and cooker but that means the ceiling and then I won’t be able to get to it to change batteries or test, so I’ve stood it on the window ledge(non opening, so no draught) I hope that’s ok.

Golden Review Award: 126 From Our UsersI don’t know about the rest of you folks, but I find it really helpful the many QUALITY REVIEWS I read about products on Amazon. That is what keeps me writing well-thought out reviews, as your many QUALITY REVIEWS have been of GREAT BENEFIT to me again & again. Thank you.

Now for my Review Of the compact KIDDE CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM that comes with a 7 year warranty.

I was quite wary (i.e. unsure) about getting another Carbon Monoxide Alarm, as many reviews of Carbon Monoxide were either EXCELLENT, GLOWING REPORTS or very negative ones. So I decided to read a lot of the Carbon Monoxide Alarm Reviews and ANALYSE the results. (i.e. break down my understanding of what they all meant)

The KIDDE Carbon Monoxide Alarm seemed to get a mix of both positive and negative feedback. However, having carefully considered its feedback, I decided it was worth considering.

The Compact KIDDE CARBON MONOXIDE Alarm is indeed very compact weighing approx 200g (0.44 ounces) and its dimensions being Width * Length * Thickness 7 * 12 * 3 cm 2.76 * 4.72 * 1.18 inches.

It hardly takes up any space and although it comes with screws to affix it on a wall or ceiling, it has a ready-made slot on the back of the alarm to enable you to hang it on a hook or nail that’s partly recessed into a wall.

The Carbon Monoxide Alarm comes with instructions and Three “AA” Size Batteries. It’s really easy to remove the cover to the battery compartment on the back of the Alarm. You just gently slide it down in the direction of the arrow and then put in the 3 * AA Batteries and then slide the compartment cover back on carefully. It’s important to note of course that it’s the actual Alarm Unit that comes with the 7 Year Warranty and NOT the batteries!

You’ll probably need to change the batteries once every 7months to a year depending on HOW OFTEN the Carbon Monoxide Alarm sounds.

[I say this as I’ve had a few KIDDE Carbon Monoxide Alarms in the past with at least two at any one time. Also, I believe that after about 5.5years or so, depending on HOW FREQUENTLY the Alarm goes off to alert you, the unit will need to be replaced as the CO Sensor inside the unit stops working!].

And VERY IMPORTANT: WHEN YOU FIRST PUT IN THE BATTERIES, THE CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM MAKES TEN RAPID BEEPS, WHICH STARTLED ME A BIT. I should have read the instructions that came with the unit more carefully.

You’re also advised to write in the date ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT, the date you installed the Carbon Monoxide Alarm & the batteries, as both the Unit and the batteries have a LIMITED LIFE SPAN. I installed mine on Sunday 26 July 2020 and wrote that date on the Carbon Monoxide Unit. I think it would be easier to write down the installation date with a marker pen.

AND REMEMBER to TEST the unit AT LEAST once a week and PREPARE for the loud 85 Decibel Screeching Sound.

Some Carbon Monoxide Alarm Units require you to vacuum their insides once every two to three months. I LIKE IT THAT THIS UNIT DOES NOT APPEAR TO REQUIRE THIS!

Some people have complained about their own Carbon Monoxide Alarms received being manufactured a few years before they received them. The two I received were MANUFACTURED ON NOVEMBER 9 2019.

Thanks for Reading and Hope you’ve Found MY REVIEW HELPFUL…

An Excellent Decently Priced CO Alarm

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThere’s really not a great deal to say about this. I guess I have to take it on good faith that it’s working well and will protect me if there’s a problem.

Hopefully, it will just sit there and work away in the background – and for 99% of people who buy this, they won’t ever be aware that it’s there. So, because it’s one of those ‘install and forget’ pieces of kit, there’s not much more I can add.

It looks good, it feels well made, and I hope to God it’s doing what it’s supposed to do. From my point of view, I’ve got it installed high up in the room (not too high – there’s some decent guidance provided in the leaflet), it’s out of sight and I really want to try to forget it’s there. So far, so good.

I suppose the only way I’ll really know for sure that it’s working is if it sounds an alarm. In the meantime, all I’ve got to go on is the reliability and trustworthiness of the manufacturers name. And that seems OK to me.

  79. Anonymous says:

Ok so there no full digital display, but there are 2 coloured LEDS and a test button. What more do you want, are you going to sit looking at it for its whole 10yr life? Comes with an initial set of alkaline batteries. All’s cool; just hope it works 🙂

  80. Haley8113rfrst says:

     United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Not a lot to say about this, since it seems to work fine, and is priced well.
It doesn’t have a digital display like the more expensive ones, which can then show even non-dangerous levels of CO.
However if you just want a cheap and cheerful basic detector, this should serve you just fine.
