I really can’t say anything negative about this thing. I felt like such a geezer when I saw my kid using it for the first time- just impressed by it all. The shapes, the numbers, the spelling… He loves every category.

Once you get past setup and logging in, it’s lots of fun for the kiddos. It’s a great investment, because you can always add on with more games.

My 5 year old LOVES this. It’s perfect for the child who needs help with learning or for the child who is bored in school and needs to be challenged. When you purchase, the parents are promoted to download the parents app and you will get daily updates on progress.

Getting the app on the fire tablet in kids mode was a little challenging since it seems it’s a different app for each game but once playing the kids love.

Worth every penny. The start off was hard to download apps but once I got it going, it was super easy. I just downloaded the individual apps for it to work. Download the actual Osmo app and then individually download the apps and games you purchased. That way it’s all connected and works perfectly fine. Great way to challenge the kids to think and analyze. Love it!

My daughter (first grade) loves her Osmo system but in my opinion it’s a bit expensive, when there are some free educational apps out there. I’m interested to see how intuitive it is as her vocabulary expands. Also with the tangram game its FOREVER asking her to move the entire puzzle up or down into the viewing space no matter if she has the base up or down. Not sure what we are doing wrong.

My 7 year old requested this after playing with it at school. My 5 year old said he didn’t want to play a learning game. Then he got sucked it and loved it. Fun doesn’t feel like learning

I love this! My son likes playing with it and doesn’t know he is learning. It is a great way to incorporate more tangible things with a tablet game. My son likes to physically touch the shapes and then see it confirmed that he made it (an owl, for example) correctly on the screen and “fly away.” There are buttons along the way that ask if the task was too hard/easy to tailor to the child’s ability, so child may grow with the game.

The parent app is wonderful in that I can track his progress with the updates.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI love that my son enjoys playing with this and he is learning as he plays. I thought it might be too advanced for my 4 year old however, they didn’t have little genius set for kindle yet, but he’s doing great. We were able to use our own dry erase board for the masterpiece app as well and he loves mo the monster. I thought(explanation follows)it may be a little overpriced as the cards are like a laminated cardboard and could be easily worn but it’s new and a great concept. I love that they include the plastic storage containers which will help keep the cards organized and from getting messed up. I didn’t like that in order to download the apps I had to but a new kindle as the app wasn’t available on older models, however I picked one up on a deal so it wasn’t as bad as I feared. Over all I am very happy I made the purchase because my son loves playing with it and is learning at the same time. I also appreciate that the apps are free and not added purchases after paying for the setup, it makes the overall price more understandable. If need be I would purchase again since it is inspiring my son to enjoy drawing as well as learning to add, subtract, make words, etc. I also love that as he get older I can get other “games” to keep the learning going as he grows. Well worth it in my opinion. Great job osmo thank you!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe love Osmo! My son was first introduced to Osmo at school in the STEAM lab. He received the genius starter kit, the creative kit, detective/puzzle kit, and coding kits for Christmas (planned family gifting). I cannot say enough how awesome Osmo is! He has so much fun and is learning so much. When he is challenged, he is able to troubleshoot and figure out what his next step should be. Definitely worth the investment.

Nice gift for our 5 soon to be 6 year old. He’s engaged with it for decent chunks of time. The app isn’t intuitive for him so I have to get him started on it. One other drawback is that I have to use my profile and not his because it didn’t show up in his Amazon free time but that could be because of the settings I have for him.

My 5 year old was able to play with the Osmo kits at our public library (even though they recommend it for older kids) and LOVED the few games she tried out. I bought her the Genius kit to start off with. The numbers and tangram games are her favorites. I think she will love the words game more once she gets the hang of it. The masterpiece game is just not for us. The Newton game was fun but we are still learning. Over all we love the Osmo and look forward to adding more games to our collection.

Some basic info if you buy the Osmo Genius kit, it comes with *almost* everything you need to play the 5 apps that are part of the genius kit. Numbers, Words and Tangrams come with pieces which are included in the kit. Newton really requires a white board – dry erase board and pen. You can use paper but it’s easier with a dry erase board. We ended up using a white plastic lid in place of a dry erase board. Masterpiece you use paper I believe, you could probably use a dry erase board but since you are drawing paper and pencil or pen work better. Yes, you do have to download all 5 apps.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy 5 year old, pre-k, daughter LOVES her Osmo! We have used ABCMouse in the past, and honestly I’m a firm believer in ABCMouse, but I love that osmo is more hands on. My son (7) has not stopped playing with his Osmo since he got it. He received it as a Christmas gift from Santa to use with his Kindle. Aside from the small hiccup with our puppy trying to steal a number, he has been having the best time. His favorite game is Tangrams. All of the games are challenging and fun. Definitely a win in our books! I noticed when registering our Osmo that there are other games available that use the same tools that come in the Genius kit. This is an awesome addition and will be looking into purchasing others.

We gave this to our 6 yo daughter as Christmas present and she loves it (and so do I!). She has been working on her spelling and math skills by playing and having fun with Numbers and Words games. She loved drawing with Masterpiece, putting puzzles together with Tangram and finding the way to bounce correctly the little dots in Newton. On top of that, we brought Awbie too, and we’ve been having a blast playing this coding game. Great product so far!

I found this to be quite an interesting product, simple to set up (just download the various apps, setting up a user account just requires an email address):
    – comes with a stand and a mirror that attaches itself over the Kindle camera
    – has 3 “sets” of accessories – one for numbers, one for shapes and one for word applications
    – the games are very child friendly and I did think it was quite clever the software interacted with the user, using the tablet screen effectively but also ensuring the child focused more on the activity itself than pressing buttons on a screen
    – there is a parent app as well that can be used for monitoring progress – it’s a bit basic but does provide an insight into usage and progress.

    Key downsides?
    – you can’t use your Kindle in it’s case so you’ll have to remove it – this effectively rules out anyone using Kindles with cases that aren’t removable
    – although a couple of applications are free, there are (of course) ones that you need to pay for… which I think is a little cheeky, given the cost of this product.

But overall it will keep young minds occupied (in my mind good for 3-7 year olds although I haven’t explored all of the apps as yet).

    This Osmo Genius Kit includes:
-osmo base for for Fire Tablets
    -Stackable storage
    -40 number tiles
    -7 tangram pieces
    -52 letter tiles

    You can choose to play:
-WORDS- helps with spelling and learning letters
-TANGRAM-improves imagination, will teach your little how to build challenging shapes
-MASTERPIECE-so far my fav one. Develops drawing skills, super fun
-NUMBERS-that one really helps with mathematic skills
-NEWTON-games which are involving creative engineering (I presume this is more suitable for older children)
I also recommend to download super studio incredibles, super studio princess or super studio mickey and friends

All games can be found at osmo web (you will have to create an account, takes no longer than 5-7min)

Shame that each app has to be downloaded separately- I would rather have one app which contains all games in one place however, downloading is quick, easy and not a big problem at all.

I consider this toy as a very cleaver, educational, I love the fact that using a technology you can easily get your child to play and learn in the same time. I often see other kids just wasting their time with phones, tablets watching something without much thinking and I guess osmo is a brilliant solution to get your kid to play & work a bit, develop their skills in same time.

Costly? Definitely yes but worth every penny.
Product has a great quality, very sturdy, colours are nice, suitable for kids age 5+
(As contains small elements please be careful if any smaller kids are around)

I would honestly recommend this osmo kit to every parent!

This interactive kit is easy to set up and use, it’s a fair mix between today’s technology and using actual physical objects rather than just starring at a screen. It’s perfect for kids who are on their ipad alot and could do with coming back to the real world, or for kids who don’t have a clue about today’s tech and could do with a little introduction.

I can’t begin to explain how amazing this is! Everything seems to be done on tablets and phones these days, so why not start learning and doing something good and educational. This is brilliant, and much better than I expected. My child found this easy to use, following the instructions and physically doing the things and learning at the same time. It’s like a game to them, while secretly learning so many different skills. It is expensive and you do require an Amazon tablet in order to use it, but some things are worth paying a little extra for. The quality of this, the pieces that come with it, the fact that the stand extends to match your needs, is all worth the price. Ensure that you keep the pieces because some are rather small and if you lose them, that’s not a good thing.

  48. CeceliaJames says:

We have used other apps before for educational purposes and have often found them less interactive than we would like. This product although app based on the fire tablet is much better as it interacts with the pieces included for various games making this about more than just technology. this way it also encourages good hand eye coordination and pushes the child further i feel.
Lets be honest most kids hate to feel they are learning so this is a great way to learn, challenges and fun lead the way here and with its ease of use and sturdy stand this is a great kit for younger kids. The kit offers all sorts of games but mostly spelling and maths based which are fantastic.Once youve downloaded the apps needed from the store you are ready to go so if you have knowledge of setting up apps etc this is a piece of cake for you. the stand is well made and sturdy and holds the screen well and the pieces for the games are also well made. nicely presented and would make an ideal gift for a child who loves tech or like us for home school.

A lot of fun for my 3 kids and myself, It’s a great educational kit, the app is very simple to use and well designed. It feels very much like a game, but has cleverly designed educational features, just for a concern in general about young kids and the amount of time they spend in front of a screen, you need amazon fire tablet to play with. The only thing is Price is too high for such kit, other than that, I think it’s a great produc

This set is a very good way to get your child to use their tablet for educational purposes instead of just for playing games. The games themselves are downloaded from an online website once you gave created your profile. It would be easier just to have to download one app from which you could access all the games but you have to get them all individually. Once loaded they are fun but helpful for learning. My nephew especially likes the maths based one. The stand provided gives a good base for playing. So slightly overpriced but a very good way to get your kids learning via their favourite tech.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAlthough this version of the OSMO Genius Pack has been designed for use with Amazon Fire tablets it also works with many other devices – we’re also using it with an iPad 6th generation and it’s fine. For the price you don’t get much in the box but it’s beautifully packaged and well-made and perhaps much of the value is in the associated app’s you download (free) for your tablet. The stand is solidly made and can be extended to elevate the tablet higher if necessary. Along with the stand are three packs of games’ pieces – one each of letters and numbers and a set of Tangram shapes and there are dedicated Words, Numbers and Tangram games to play with them.

With your tablet safely docked in the stand you clip on the mirror attachment which redirects the inbuilt selfie cam down to point at the desk below and lets the tablet see what you place or draw in front of it. The games are well produced and slick and mostly work well. The Word and Numbers games are easy to play but keep you challenged – you place combinations of letter cards to spell out words or numbers cards to solve the onscreen puzzles. Some games are played against onscreen opponents or against the clock and they can be really fun once you get the idea. The Words game is supposedly suitable for players up to the age of 12+ but we found the vocabulary in the game very basic for that age. It seems the game is made more challenging for older players by reducing the number of hints given or speeding up the opponents rather than using more challenging words.

We had some trouble with the Tangram game, where you have to arrange the geometric shapes to match the pictures onscreen, because it struggled to see how our shapes were laid out. It could have been light reflecting off the surface of the pieces, we couldn’t figure it out, but it’s worth ensuring you have good lighting and a plain surface to play on.

The kit also works with other OSMO drawing games and the Einstein and Masterpiece games are recommended on the box. We’d also recommend the Monster game which is really fun and allows players to draw objects which then get imported by the friendly monster and used to tell onscreen stories or play games. You’ll need lots of blank paper to play it and a set of felt pens (or similar) but a wipe-clean whiteboard-style pad would work too. You can of course also buy the specially designed OSMO drawing board if you’ve got any money left after buying this kit.

If you consider this kit as an introduction to the OSMO system which then allows your kids to play a bunch of their games then it seems like better value. It’s certainly pricey but the games are mostly good and manage to be genuinely fun as well as educational.

It’s a brilliant idea and a great alternative way to use a tablet without constantly staring at the screen. Set-up was easy. Instructions were clear and the apps were easy to locate, download and open.

The included games are fun and educational. They encourage and improve dexterity and keep the mind active with lots of problem solving and thinking!

It all packs away neatly and easily back into the box too at the end. Great product.

I’m always interested in new developments in educational technology . I have Nine Grandchildren , keeping up is hard .

The Osmo Genius kit for Fire has 5 games included all of which help make learning fun . The games range from words to shapes , numbers and drawing …and the only thing you need to get going is a Fire tablet or iPad .

Each game has its own app , so after they have been downloaded you can play Offline , no need for WiFi . Just make sure you have a compatible device .

This will be a present for my grandchildren , something for the older ones to enjoy . Any game that makes learning Fun gets a huge thumbs up from me .

Included in the box are the base ( Not compatible with iPad ) the tiles for each of the 5 games and the mirror which slides over the camera and projects the images below .

I’m impressed so far , I will update my review at a later date when it’s been thoroughly put through its paces .

We have the kids Fire 7 tablet, and as the stand doesn’t work with the protective casing still on, I was a bit apprehensive in using the tablet unprotected as it only works this way. Thankfully none of the applications require much movement of the tablet, so the risk of damage was low. This does somewhat limit to it’s use on a tabletop, but that’s probably better in the long run, to use these devices again as though old-school desktops, than have the lacking concentration that comes with using one in front of the TV and other distracting stimuli.

I remember when I was a kid, there was a super lo-fi website that was full of educational games that I adored, so it’s a great age to get them in to games where they actually can learn something.

The thing I love most though is the dual-interactivity. It’s not all about doing everything on the Tablet – that’s more there as a guide, and there’s still the physicality of using the wooden blocks to recreate the geometric shape, or an actual pen and paper to draw with.

It’s impressively reactive, like with the shapes game, it can see with the camera that you’ve done it right. The responsiveness of the app itself is very impressive. The drawing one I was particularly blown away by. I don’t know if it teaches hand-eye coordination or what, but the fact that it uses almost like a VR hologram thing to teach how to draw, as a grumpy old person, I couldn’t believe the technology.

A great set for any kid just starting school. It definitely makes learning fun, and the app and the physical pieces have all been very well designed.

Its a great set for kids. Osmo is been used in more than 30000 schools worldwide, it’s not hard learning its fun and play.
Very easy to set up, everything included you just must have Amazon Fire tablet.
The base station holds the tablet in the upright position, at a slight angle, while the mirror piece slides down over the camera and redirects its view to an area in front of the screen where your child will play. For set up just create an online profile on the website, then download the apps for the games on your tablet, it’s a separate app for each game, then launch each game on the tablet and begin playing. Games are designed for beginner to expert levels, Shapes & placing in designs, problem-solving/early physics, creative drawing skills, counting with numbers/dice, letters, spelling & vocabulary.
Absolutely fabulous and highly recommended set.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersI got this for my grandson who isn’t quite five yet, he has a speech delay but is a bright little boy who picks up things quickly I’m sure he will enjoy this Osmo Genius Kit as much as my son and daughter-in-law will enjoy helping him learn with it too.

Opening up the box it all looks well made and nicely presented. The base is sturdy with non slip strips underneath, the red part is the bit that works with the tablets camera, it has a mirror inside to reflect the image below the base in front so it can see the child’s hands using the games number/letter tiles or wooden pieces for the tangram box, so clever. It doesn’t need batteries or mains electricity working from the tablets battery.

Setting up is straightforward, just go to playosmo.com to register (you’ll need your email) then go to your App Store to download the Osmo apps. I wish the apps were rolled into one app rather than downloading five, but it was very easy to do. Once in one of the apps just sign in with the password you used to set up.

The games are really nicely laid out with music and encouraging sounds when a child answers correctly with the tiles, I set up an account for my grandson and one for me but several accounts can be set up for family members or friends to play.

There are five games in this set,
1 – Tangram, a shape puzzle game to follow from the screen, fun and challenging, from easy difficult.
2 – Numbers, set simply to more brain straining maths but all set out like fun computer games, scoring points along the way.
3 – Words a spelling game like wise filling in the missing letters/words from the screen as you interact with the lettered tiles with various levels of difficulty.
4 – Masterpiece is an interactive drawing app using lots of ready made drawings to copy or even using your own photos or from a web search. The image on the screen is copied on a blank piece of paper in front of the base, when finished drawing, click on the tick box and it will upload it on screen and save it to your gallery, you can even email it to family and get it in the Osmo gallery for others to admire.
The last game – 5 is Newton another interactive app game with over 60 levels of creative engineering, starting with a simple bouncing or rolling of balls to gain points using a finger. Please see my photos of the various apps. There’s also an app for parents to download that monitors what game the child has been using on a Osmo, what they’ve achieved and for how long, including answers. An excellent app for parents not always able to be there with the child with work commitments etc.

There are lots more interactive games to download and purchase separately including ‘Super Studio Mickey & Friends’ ‘Super Studio Princess’ and ‘Super Studio Incredibles 2’ they would make great gift ideas to add to the Osmo Genius Kit.

I am genuinely impressed with this amazing Osmo Genius Kit for its fun approach to learning words, numbers, maths, puzzles and drawing enabling a child from five to twelve to expand their knowledge and enjoy doing so where learning becomes something to look forward to, growing with the child’s capacities as they learn. I certainly wish this was around when my children were in this age group in the 90’s. I also think this learning tool could be very beneficial to adults with impaired learning such as dementia, my late Father who died of dementia would have certainly benefited from using this, with help, to keep his mind active, particularly in the earlier stages, this is just my thoughts on it of course, based on my experience, not a medical opinion. Please see my photos, I hope my review helps you, thanks for taking the time to read it.

Very nicely done games that provide many hours of not just entertainment but education. Great for folks beginning to read and write as well as do basic maths.

This gives my kids something to do on their Kindle other than rot their brains. They are 7 and 11. This is a cool device. My kids like the word scramble the best. They compete against each other.

I just realized the Osmo cannot be used with Fire tablet plugged into adapter because the cord interferes with the mirror. I guess this is more of a design flaw on the Kindle, odd positioning of the power port at the top near the camera lens, rather than the with the Osmo product itself. Actually, come to think of it, it wouldn’t work with iPad version either because cord would interfere with the base.
My daughter loves playing the interactive learning games on the osmo. Just make sure it’s always charged up and ready if you don’t want an upset little one.

I bought this for my son for Christmas, he is 6 and he loves the challenges. He competes to create words and tangrams with Owla. It has helped him grow his knowledge and competitive spirit. Thanks for a great toy.

Amazing!!! We homeschool and this kit is the perfect addition to our curriculum. Both my 5 and 7 yo love Osmo time and my preschooler is adding and subtracting without manipulatives! This fun learning also gives them technology time on their tablets. My kiddos are extra well behaved when Osmo time is on the line. We have the genius and creative kits and will be purchasing pizza and coding jam this spring for our summer fun.

My daughter enjoys playing the games, although she steers more towards the princess drawing game.

I really wish this could work with the case. My daughter got a Kids Fire HD 10 and we have to pop it out of the case every time we want to use this.

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersI love this product, I really do. It is so much better and more fun than zoning out on YouTube (*cough* Ryan *cough*). My daughter is 4 and she got this for Christmas 2018. It has quickly become her favorite toy. She loves the monster (which is not actually included in this pack but is a free download that does not need anything special other than a whiteboard and dry erase marker) she had never been very interested in drawing and watching him pull her drawings up into the screen and interact with them is so exciting for her! Santa also brought her a super spiffy convertible easle/table with a whiteboard side that works perfectly with this. Good lighting is important so the camera can clearly see. She enjoys the other games too, but the Monster is by far her favorite. I feel much better about her screentime now that we have this because I feel like she is learning more than she would, even with ABC mouse. I am confident that this is a toy she will be able to grow into and enjoy for many years. My only complaint is that I can not figure out how to add the various games into the Osmo “home” app in Freetime. For now she plays it on my account on her Fire tablet but I think that is something that hopefully will be fixed soo

Fun games and learning at the same time, she loves it! It is very intuitive. No matter what level she chooses it notices if she is struggling or answering quickly and will adjust the difficulty. Her favorite is the Tangrams.

We purchased this for my 7 year old as a Christmas present- I would say that the age rating is off. Most of the activities are definitely at the lower end of her learning (at least with the included games) but she is having a lot of fun doing them. Its interactive and intuitive and she is able to navigate and do everything on her own. She enjoys unlocking new levels and its probably one of the best gifts we got her. Takes a while to set up as you have to download each “app” after downloading the Osmo App and setting up an account but once it’s done, kids can access everything through the main app.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersMy order arrived quickly and well packaged. The main issue I have is that there were no directions, aside from a card telling me what was in the package and a website link. For the price of this system, I would expect detailed step-by-step directions for set up and directions for each game included in the package. We have been using the system for two days and are figuring the games out as we go. We love the Numbers and Tangram games the best. I’m sure the Word, Newton, and Masterpiece games will be fun too once we figuring them out. You will need to download the free apps from the app store to play each of the five games. Also, the plastic boxes the game pieces come in are a great organizational tool; however, the containers are not well thought out. The lids are very difficult to remove, especially for children. There is an optional zippered case that can be purchased separately to store the pieces in, which would have been a much better option to include with the system. Hopefully the creators read reviews and rethink the two issues listed. This product has the potential of being a wonderful addition for hands-on fun and learning. We will figure the games out on our own (probably Youtube)…just feel this was an important item to omit.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersLove this thing. It’s creative, fun, and educational. It’s neat to see your drawings pop up on the screen. My daughter emails me her drawings all the time and it’s time lapse. The tangram game is a favorite! Can’t wait to add more games. Newton is fun also. The math/word games could use some work, they don’t hold the kids attention at all…

We got this for our son for Christmas. He tried the word game first. It was a little difficult for him. He is in Kindergarten and only just learning how to spell. He played a few rounds before it got too frustrating for him to play on his own. He tried the Tangram and drawing with Mo(we got the creative kit as well, for our daughter) They both love Mo! I know this will provide hours of fun, and they will be able to use it for a long time to learn more words and math!

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersThis product was purchased with a gift card. Easy to use. I had no issues setting it up with my account I had. My students were able to keeping using numbers from where they had left off, the same with words. I use this with my children ages 8,6, and 4. I also use this in my classroom setting which is K-5. I enjoy tangrams because I like puzzles. It was actually the reason I first purchased and became familiar with OSMO.

Golden Review Award: 107 From Our UsersWe have been osmo fans for a couple years now on the iPad. But the kindle fire is more economical for the kids to use so I am so glad they came out with a fire edition. We utilize the osmo games for homeschool with our 5 & 7 year olds.

The base is awesome with the extendable legs. When testing the letters, numbers and tangrams out while I set up a new kindle fire 7 all the games worked well. So far the games recognized the pieces well. We have issues sometimes when using them with the iPad version. I really feel so far it works better than with the iPad.

I look forward to the additional osmo games to come out for the fire so we can switch all our osmo game play to utilizing just the kindle fire.

The letters, numbers, and tangram pieces come in small stackable plastic boxes. Sometimes the lids stick a little when trying to get them off.

With this genius kit you can play the numbers, letters and tangram games but you can also use paper or dry erase board to play the monster, Newton and masterpiece games.

Great for kids and works great on the kindle Fire

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersWe purchased this for our 7yo for his birthday, he already had a Kindle Fire. We bought solely based on a pop ad. So glad we did. it allows him the screen time he wants while being interactive and educational at the same time. He sat and played for a solid hour after opening. We had no glitches or problems setting it up. I will definitely be buying more Osmo products.
