Always used the plastic ones and have had 6 flaps split by my border collie as he rushes through, this so far has been excellent although im not sure if it will keep the cold out as it flaps and moves a bit in the wind

Having had a plastic framed pet door previously that fell apart over several years of high volume pet traffic, I decided to go for this metal frame model. Upon opening up the box, I could tell that the build quality was far superior to the door I’d had previously. It is sturdy and fits together easily and well. Once installed, the door really does look pleasing and it matches in well with our upvc door. It maintains a good seal to minimise draughts. It is relatively quiet when being used by our dogs/cats (whereas the plastic version we had was very noisy). The dimensions of it are also really good for our larger dog as it has a generous depth dimension; ideal for the build of our dog as she used to struggle with the squarer proportions of our old pet door. Overall; delighted with the door.

Fantastic !
Very good quality ! We are using it for over a year and is still perfect. Where I live temperature can go as low as -20 C in the winter but there is NO cold air coming trough this door.

An excellent product. Our Cockapoo puppy was scared of the old, noisy dog flap. This is whisper quiet and much easier for him to open. It’s perfect. We don’t even hear him going through it. We got large as he is growing tall.

I have now had to cut some thin sheet metal and bolt it onto both sides of the flap and so far so good!!
I’ve had one of these for 3 years and our old rescue English Bull terrier had it sussed within a couple of hours, she loves it!! We then decided to have a Miniature English Bull terrier puppy,she also got it and was therefore house trained within 2 months. The problem was she decided to chew the flap off so I got in touch with the manufacturer and got a replacement flap delivered for 15, she again attempted to chew this!! I have now had to cut some thin sheet metal and bolt it onto both sides of the flap and so far so good!!!

Gives dogs freedom to come and go
A good product which works well my two German shepards love it and their freedom to come and go as they please. It’s robust and a good quality the fitting instructions are clear.

This large PetSafe pet door was perfect for my 2. 8 month old boxers. It is a sturdy metal frame construction, the flap has a magnet along the bottom which holds it closed. It was easy to fit in my double glazed door and with a little encouragement both my boyz lrarnt how to use it very fast. I now have 2 house trained dogs that come and go as they please and house training happened really quickly after I fitted this door. This door has achieved exactly what I wanted and I like the fact you can get spares should the flap ever need replacing. Thoroughly recommend it..

If you have active dogs, this is the one that you MUST buy. It beats the Petmate into insignificance.
Good flaps
Two crazy Labradors fit perfectly through it, go in and out fine. Nice and quiet when they go through. You do need the tools they recommend but good quality dog flap.

fitting easy, but rigid closer snags arris rail between top and bottom panel. had to make 1/2″ spacer frame. no fun.

he pet door has improved the dogs life as he is free to come in and out as he wants. The door is really quiet and reasonably easy to fit BUT there is always a draft as the flexible door doesn’t fit tightly and you have to be careful if you have a centre bar on the house door that the locking plate will slide in. We have a bar on our door which prevents it from sliding up and down.

Perfec option to be installed in regular doors
This pet door is sturdy, and it makes no noise when the dog is going through it. The closing system is great as it keeps it shut so the heat doesn’t escape through it. The only thing is that I would have liked to have an option to buy such a pet door that would be appropriate for a very thin aluminium door, which is our case. We couldn’t have it installed properly because of this problema, and had to adjust it.
For other regular doors, this is a perfect option, I do recommend it.

Great product should have got one years ago! Easily installed and silent when used, has the added advantage of being able to be locked when we are all out of the house.

Easy to fit and strong
This was easy to fit with the included template, it is also very strong to the extend that my two larger than average douge de Bordeux are able to bound out and in with no problems. Was not sure before purchase that this would be the case but was impressed when I saw the construction as this is made to last. Replacement flaps can be bought too which is a definate bonus as once fitted is there to stay. Best dog flap I have seen and considering quality is good value. Would highly recommend for big strong dogs

Fitted this flap to my internal door, now my dogs can go in and out as they please! Seems to cope with draughts very well, but wouldn’t recommend for fitting in a door which recieves strong wind directly. Overall does work well and makes looking after dogs much easier!

The heavy-duty plastic flap is VERY quiet, barely makes any noise at all when dogs enter/exit. However, unless you are VERY accurate with the measurements, the flap does not fit snggly. The draft proofing either side does help, but in a strong wind, the plastic flaps bends & therefore lets a howling gale through.

This is a very robust dog flap. Big enough for Labs & large Springer Spaniel, but also light enough for Jack Russell. It is not entirely draught-proof, but only flaps around when the wind is in a particular direction and very strong. The closing slide in security panel is made of thick plastic, I would have prefered it to be metal like in the bigger size of dog flap, but it seems strong enough. Overall pleased and much better than the plastic-framed dog flaps that my dogs destroy.

We have 2 German shepards, very active. We have this door for about a month. The door seams to be working just fine. Flap closes well. We live in Portugal and now is summer, so we just need to wait for the winter to see if it keeps cold from getting in.

bought this so that we can leave the dogs in when we go out, great aluminum frame, and fitted really easily, only problem i had was with the plastic screw type bolts it came with, have had to replace these with metal ones within the first week.

I brought this product after doing a lot of research, I am very happy with my choice and my research skills. I only have one slight problem with it – It is supplied with plastic bolts not steel. I have left a 5 star rating because I understand why, (I think). I guess the manufactures of this product would prefer to supply you with steel bolts but understand that most people will fit this door themselves – when using metal bolts as I did you must drill the holes in your door in EXACTLY the correct place (you get a template). Supplying plastic bolt will allow the person fitting the door to make slight errors in “bolt hole” positions – the plastic bolts flex quite a lot but are weaker. If you buy this product and you want to fit it as best you can spend a few pence on some steel bolts.
The Plastic bolts problem aside – It is great value – The plastic sleeve that you use to “lock” the flap could be easily kicked in and is by no means secure. For most dogs owners this is only a problem when you dogs are not at home, right.
Personally I have 2 shepherd/collie cross dogs that always want to be outside, no wait inside, oh oh outside, so they are happier now – If you care about global warming (thanks a lot Al Gore) you may wish to consider the savings in heating costs you will make by not opening and closing a conventional door all the time. Other reviewers have mentioned that their dog has broken the plastic flap and recommend changing it to a aluminium one. Crazy! The plastic one is quiet, draft proof and water proof – works fine. If you feel you will have problems with your dog eating/chewing the plastic door I would say – Train the dog!
This is the second of these doors that we have purchased (for a second door), as they are far tougher than the plastic doors. My dog destroyed six plastic doors before we puchased these.
Our lab/german shepherd cross ate our last all plastic dog flap (the flap itself and the frame too) so we bought this to replace the eaten one. It is far far quieter than the noisy old one which was a real unexpected bonus. We didn’t buy the aluminium flap for this new one, we just installed it with the soft rubbery flap which comes with the pack. Although it is far quieter, one downside is that almost immediately it has started letting in a draught because it bends in the middle. It’s nowhere near the draught we had when we just had a dog “hole” (when the old flap had been eaten!) but a noticeable draught does come in. I would advise anyone thinking of buying this flap, due to their dog being destructive, to buy the aluminium flap because our dog has quickly chewed the soft flap already. Because the frame is metal, he has not chewed the frame and we plan to replace the soft flap with the aluminium one which should eliminate the chewing although we can’t say whether it will eliminate the draught. Overall I would say this is a good product but if you have a destructive mutt, buy all metal!

Sturdy dog flap, now have a year. Easy to clean and my GSD has no problem going in or out of. Only prob is I had mice in house last year, for first time and I am thinking they came in through dog flap!!!But product isfit for purpose so…………

Very good product, easy to install! My Japanese Akita loves it! The insulation is ok, good for what it is!
quite straight forward to fit but metal bolts would be better than the plastic ones supplied. we have a uvpc door which means the slot down cover will not fit without removing the lower panel. we fit the cover if we are leaving over night. while the flap is magnetic is is easily blown by the wind not good ifs its raining as well. overall its not bad as you dont have to keep getting up for the dog. Tip for training your dog, throw treats either side afer ten minutes or so they get the hang of it.

Great product making easy access for my young labradors and also an elderly one. Does not let in much of a draught as the flap seals veryefficiently. Would recommend it to anyone with large dogs.
Not quite as advertised.
It does NOT have an Aluminium door. It has a metal FRAME but the flap & the security closure are plastic.
Apart from that easy to fit & looks very neat.
I have a one year old female German Shepherd that fits through the large size door no problem. It was easy to install and is very sturdy. My only down side on this product is the “safety” screen, it is made of hard plastic but could easily be broken with a kick (not that I tried that). I can fit in through the door myself, which did help with training the dog how to use it!
In comparison with other similar products I would recommend it.
