PLANT!T Perlite 100L Bag

This bag of perlite is more than enough for 50 litres of compost. Small bag is much more manageable than a big one. Does what its supposed to.
recommended.

Purchased this as hatching medium for my snake eggs instead of the usual vermiculite. Didn’t disappoint as the hatching rate was over 50% compared to previous year. Will use this in future plus it was good value.

Good product, hard to find in conventional stores such as Homebase.

This product arrived safely and was good quality and value for money. I would defiantly buy it again as I can’t find perlite on the high street at a comparible price.

it’s great. i use it for small pots in and around the house / balcony and it is lasting a very long time – plants seem to like the mix with it.

I wasn’t really prepared for how large this bag would be, when ordering. Compared to 100 l of vermiculite, the bag is quite a bit larger, although 100 l should be 100 l – maybe because the vermiculite packs in more tightly, not sure, anyway, this bag is simply huge. But had ordered a 10 l bag before, and got through it quite quickly, and once you work out the price difference, if you’ve got room to store it, it works out a lot cheaper to order the big bags. The perlite is medium grade, I would say, with a particle size of about 2 – 4 mm, although have not measured, so this is not precise. I’ve started using both perlite and vermiculite – many people ask about the difference between the two. My understanding is that perlite is better at providing aeration and drainage, although it doesn’t hold water like vermiculite does. Vermiculite also helps with aeration and drainage, but its main benefit is its water-holding capacity and the fact that helps to make nutrients available to plants – not sure exactly about the science of it. I use both now, often both at once, depending on the application. I tried to resist using them, as while both are not harmful to the environment themselves, they are both produced using very high heat, which is concerning from an environmental point of view. However, the “environmentally friendly” alternatives, such as rice husks, simply don’t perform as well, neither with regard to drainage, insulation (perlite also helps insulate plant roots against extreme temperatures) or water-holding capacities. I’ve found that for plants grown in pots, perlite is simply essential to ensure good root development for many plants. Overall, my plants are doing loads better since I’ve started adding perlite and/or vermiculite to my compost mixes. I also add mycorrhizal fungus to the root balls when first potting up, and previously, had never seen any difference – probably because there was not enough oxygen in the compost for it to take. Since using perlite, I’m pretty sure the fungus is “taking” (so colonising the root ball successfully) a lot more frequently than it was before – have often seen little mushrooms coming up a few weeks after application.. Will definitely be buying again, although this bag should last me ages, so not any time soon!

Be warned that this is a huge bag. Unless you are planting a lot of plants that need good drainage, this will probably be too much for your use.

Have used this product before just the job for mixing with compost for plants

It’s perlite and loads of it.
Delivered in original packaging with some external puncturing and tears which have had some parcel tape repairs to prevent further loss of contents.

Big bag and will last me ages, the bag arrived with a hole in it but it doesnt seem to have leaked too much !

Arived early, there was a small hole in the bag, and that’s the only thing that stoped me from giving 5 stars!

Makes your peat or compost go further and also helps to aerate the mix and improve drainage. Do not use outside on a wide day!

Extremely good value for money, especially if you have a lot of mixing to do with compos

Fantastic value especially compared to the 10 litre bags. It’s a bit dusty, but understandable.
I’ve made a couple of friends happy by giving them a bag full and I still have loads left for my potting!
The sack is reasonably light for the size of it and reminds me of a bean bag! (Please excuse the messy room, but the sack of perlite is in the grey bag (how it was delivered), on the left)

Mix with your compost and you never have to worry about clumps of soil or water logging again.

Thus stronger and healthier plants.

Worth the extra cost.

Excellent product. Everything planted with Perlite in the mix has sprung to life. Keeps soil open and hydrated. Great in our sandy soil. It is a bit dusty until mixed in soil or compost, straight out of the bag, so I recommend wearing a dust musk until it’s mixed.

A big bag but well packed and delivered promptly. I mix 25% in with multi purpose compost and have used half of it already. It’s clean with very little dust. My plants in pots and tubs seem to do better with perlite added than they did previously with just straight compost.
