The Wireless Go II is east to use and delivers great quality sound.

Purchased these after we used ride wireless go, & found that we needed two external microphones.

Simple to install. Take out of box, charge, plug in receiver, & turn on microphones & they just work. Perfect for merging two sound channels into single stream.

Quality of sound is amazing in comparison to internal / built in microphones on cameras. Provides professional quality sound over built in microphones.

Now have perfect sound quality for church mass live streaming.

    Cannot recommend highly enough.

Only one down side which is instructions on how to mute / unmute microphones could be much clearer. Ended up having to Google it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive, sound quality amazing

Before I start this review, I have read a few of the other reviews and felt that, if you are wanting to use this kit for your endeavors, you will need to understand your set up. Effectively, the difference between a TRS and a TRRS Jack.

A TRS jack is the standard style jack with 2 black rings around them, they can be used for earphones and dedicated mics. A TRRS jack has 3 black rings and can be used as both a mic and and earphone.

Most Laptops, Macbooks and mobile phones will have the one input for the machine and so it is ok to assume that the jack supports TRRS.

But this is where the Wireless Go falls, as the patch cable given is designed for the high end camera market, where the mic jack is dedicated, hence they will use TRS. To get this to work with a single jack product, you will need the SC7 patch kit (pictured)

If you are happy to use this set up, then that is all you need, the Rode mic on the wireless go is sufficient for you to record with. Albeit if you have a USB-C only input like my phone has, you’ll need a USB-C to 3.5 Jack module (Example pictured). I was told with my Samsung that only the official version works, but I found that not to be true.

Things only get complicated if you want to use your own lavalier mic. Most lavalier mics will be TRRS, which means you will need the SC3 adaptor to plug into the transmitter (pictured).

However, whilst I purchased the official Rode Patch cables and adaptors, you don’t have to, I found you can use the patch cable supplied with the unit, a split mic/headphone cable for mobile phones and a fairly cheap USB-C adaptor (pictured).

Hopefully those solutions will help you get your particular setup running first time.

As for the unit itself, I feel that it is well worth the money once the initial fiddling and setting up for your particular setup is done. I have not tested the range, but as I wanted to use this for unboxing videos and standing piece to camera for my You Tube channel, I needed something where I wasn’t wired to my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, as I was moving around in front of camera.

This system has shown to be perfect for that need and therefore, for me, is Five star,

So, why the dropped star? Whilst I applaud the minimalist approach to packaging, I think, as this is aimed at the smaller production unit/one person production price range, they really needed to explain about TRS and TRRS. Rode is a pro mic company and I think in this case they may have dropped the ball in their communication about the product.

Plus, knowing what I know now about TRS and TRRS, whilst I understand that the patch cable in the box is TRS for the cameras that use it, not knowing about the TRRS separate patch cable until I was trying to troubleshoot is Rode’s fault totally, there should have been (at least) extended product manual with the pack.

That been said, as most decent Lavalier mics are TRRS, having the adaptor into the transmitter be TRS is puzzling to say the least.

So if you are looking at this and the Wireless Go 2 is well out of your price range (like it was mine), hopefully you will know the extra stuff you need to set up.

Cameras and Deskstop/high end laptop PCS can use TRS (The pink jack).

Mobile Phones, Laptops and Apple Products use TRRS.

If you are patching to a sound recorder, can’t help you there. 🙂

As long as you understand your connections, this kit is absolutely brilliant.

Used it for video recording on my phone. Not upto scratch, so bought this, no problems at all. Kind of wished I bought the rode first.

I simply can’t believe the negative reviews around the Go 2. Paired with my GoPro 9, the sound quality is breathtaking. Simples. There is also so much you can do to tailor the exact sound you want and even more flexibility when editing through the Rode Central app. Not the new kid on the block but with so much experience in this field, stick with their history and experience; go with the Rode. It’s an absolute game changer.

I have tried the cheaper synco mics and have returned them and instead bought this one. I had two versions of synco both stopped working within days so I do think its worth paying more for rode. However there are areas the cheaper model did better.

With this rode mic – you get a transmitter, receiver, sound muffs x2, usb wires to charge x2, a fabric pouch.

The fabric pouch is small and while it’ll hold the transmitter and receiver fine, you cannot fit everything in it. Synco had a bigger hard case that fit everything so I wish rode had done similar.

The rode mic comes with a wire to attach to the camera, but for me my camera doesnt have audio jack so I needed a wire for my laptop. The rode mic didnt come with this, but fortunately I realised this after ordering and only had to wait a day for my TRRS to TRS wire to arrive. Once this adapter arrived and I plugged it in, the rode mic worked straight away with no problems.

I tested the mic walking around my apartment and it didnt cut out at all. In places you can hear my breath but I should be able to fix that in post. The sound is really clear and better quality sound than the synco (which wasnt bad). Well the rode works so thats a start.

The instructions with the rode are very minimal. I had to do research to find the adapter I needed to buy for the laptop. BTW this wire came with the synco so no extra cost with that.

All in all while there are areas rode fall down with this, the quality of sound is fantastic for the price and thats what matters. The synco was attractive at half the price but its good to no one is the system is faulty (two versions broke on me in days). Its early days with the rode but i have higher hopes.

Is it worth the money? So far, yes.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUsing a macbook pro 2019 to run OBS with Rode Wireless Go II input via usb-c works great. I tried a few combinations using the audio cable that came with it – this cable works fantastic to add another mic to input into one of the wireless transmitters, but not so good to use for the receiver. I have tried the other Rode audio cables and found non that work so great connected to the receiver but the usb-c connection (WOW) that sounds great. Its a bit of trial and error, but the microphones work incredibly well for the price. I was recording a church session with one mic on the Deacon and the other in the Church for the participates. The Deacon walked out of site, into the back of the Church (behind a few walls) and the recording continued to pick him up.

I word of caution if your getting into wireless mics like these, remind the user that they are wired and everything they say is being recorded even if they go into the bathroom….

I own a few of these and they do preform very well indeed. However with this last purchase the unit had a fault. I contacted Rode tech support and they confirmed there was a issue with one of the transmitters. So I returned it to Amazon. Over all, with all the units I have I have to say they work very well, I guess it was just bad luck for me on this occasion, but Amazon’s no messing about returns policy made it easy to return.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve now used this kit at four weddings and I have to say it’s superb! Audio is good and clear. It really is excellent value for money too. It’s a bonus too that the transmitters record the audio as backup. Furthest away I’ve had the receiver is about 75m and the audio was great. Would highly recommend!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe product was new and well packed. Rode worked straight out of the box. I would advise everyone to download software from the Rode website and then connect each device one by one to the computer using the attached cable USB-C-USB-A. Why? I did so and immediately new update popped out and I downloaded it. This is why is important to connect each device separately because each one requires its own update.
The software also gives us a lot of information about battery status and more. I did not do play with it setting in there. All I did was charging them.
I will write how I use it and how it works.

They are very light, but when you teach dance online and wear a t-shirt, it might be not so comfortable.
I bought a long time ago cheap lavelier mic Audio-Technica. I didn’t expect it will do the job very well.

My wife uses a laptop and it was always a problem for students on the other side of the globe to hear her when she was a bit away from the computer. With Rode Wireless Go II one doesn’t need any more special cables to connect to the computer. The attached USB-C-USB-A cable is enough. Rode will be immediately recognized and ready to rock’n’roll. We use Cisco Webex Meeting Live and it works amazingly well. In the Webex, you choose in setting the mic to “Wireless Go 2” and Voila!
( I would like to add here that the Rode receiver connected via USB will be always self-charging ).
Now her students in the studio hear everything super good regardless of distance from the computer. There is no need to buy external speakers for the laptop in the studio as we initially thought to do. Thanks to Rode.
Also, I thought to buy an older version because it was cheaper and I thought having 2 mics is unnecessary. I’m glad that I paid 100 euros more and bought a new model. First, no need for more cables to use with pc for live stream, and secondary we had already a case that one mic run out of battery during the lesson. What you do then? Grab fully charged another mic, turn it on and continue. Simple like that.

In the end, I want to add that I was afraid to connect and charge directly to electrical contact. I couldn’t find any answer on this subject, so I took a plug from my iPhone and tried. It worked and nothing blew up.
I have not tried outside yet.

I hope it helps you to decide on the purchase.

Couldn't be happier. My first wireless mics.

I’ve tried a few mics on my Sony camera but this beats them all. If you don’t mind the little transmitter box in view on your blouse/shirt etc then it’s all you need. Don’t bother with the extra plug in lavelier mic – just use the transmitter unit with its built in mic – the quality is unbeatable, nice crisp clear high end and rich warmth to lower range . Highly recommended

Really the headline says it all. I live in a rural area so can check the line of sight range easily. It says 80 metres – they jest, say 40 metres to be 100% sure, further than that, especially with traffic and buildings is unreliable. Of course I may have a faulty unit? Annoying I can’t connect this to a phantom powered camera and use he power to keep the RX charged, I am making up a converter plug to connect. Battery life is NOT 7 hours unless units are side by side. 4 or 5 hours is more reasonable. Charges slowly, perhaps 3 hours or so.
Would I buy again? Certainly the sound quality sells it to me and the small TX makes hiding it easy.
    Questions?

Good sound, sensitive pickup and no dropout issues so far. Using within a church as backup mic for presenters that can’t stay behind the fixed mics, or turn round to comment on something on the screen behind them (rather than look at the monitor in front of them). 30m range and fine, so not anticipating any issues outside, beyond my one niggle – the fur windshields supplied won’t stay in place. Don’t need them inside but may need use use my Smartlav and its well attached windshield outside; not a major problem, though.

Bought RODE Wireless Go on basis of recommendations (quality of performance and ready to go out of the box)
My order didn’t work: mic to receiver – yes: but receiver to iPhone 8+ ‘not a peep’. Phoned RODE office in London to check if it was user error (No I hadn’t forgotten you need a different SC7 cable for iPhone – annoying though it is that you do!) RODE Engineer said Faulty send it back we’ll replace it & here’s a form if you need it – that’s top customer service. But Amazon wanted to go one better when I called them ….. Julius (shout out for him) apologised that I was having a problem, ordered a replacement while we were talking and sent me details for the return by carrier.

You probably guessed it – Replacement worked ‘out of the box’ – It’s a 5* review from me AND 5* too for customer service by RODE and Amazon. Thank you. M

A great little wireless microphone and receiver. Simple to connect to all kinds of equipment – have used it with Android phones, desktop PCs all the way though portable sound recorders up to analog and digital mixing desks. I keep it in a small pouch with both the transmitter and receiver, and can take it along whenever I need to plug into an amplifier or PA when lecturing, or recording video or audio narration.
Lovely digital quality, good user interface showing battery levels and audio signal. Now I just need to save a bit more to buy the twin pack for those times when I need to interview someone and for them to have their own microphone. USB C charging too, which means it uses the same as all the rest of my kit, so only have to carry one type of cable.

Brilliant idea to make the clip double-up as a camera mount. The microphone clips onto the flash-gun mount on top of most cameras.
Very good sound quality with adjustable gain.
Receiver has small screen showing battery state of BOTH it and transmitter – nice design.
Can use more than 1 transmitter/receiver pair on a shoot.
Battery-life very good on 1 charge at about 5 hours.
    Very pleased with them.
Pricey, I think, but you get what you pay for.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersOn top of the amazing features, portability and quality of the first model, Rode have added onboard recording and the latest firmware update allows recording when not connected to the receiver. This means you can go out with just the 2 mic/transmitters and they will record onto their internal memory for later retrieval on the new Rode Central App. They can either record for 7 hours at broadcast quality or 46 hours normal quality.
And of course, the biggest advantage is there are now two transmitters so recording interviews is now possible.

For quick and easy very good clean audio at low budget and prosumer level these are excellent.

Making community video about 12months of Covid, and I began in Lockdown 3. Interviewees are understandably reluctant to meet in enclosed spaces or get too close. Allowing them to clip the transmitter mic on themselves and off we go has made the impossible possible. Currently have interviewed over 40 people and the sound has been pretty good on every single one. Especially as I have had almost no control of the environments we are shooting in.

I believe the GO II is even better.

Great sound quality, battery life and it is small, but the windshield for the built-in mic is too fiddly and comes off too easily.
The mic will charge when it is on but it is not possible to use it like this as there is very loud buzzing when it is connected to a power source.
It would have been nice if the case was a little bigger so it would accommodate the mic, windshields and cable without so much of a squeeze.

I have the Rode Filmmaker and Shotgun mics and was recently introduced to the Rode Wireless Go kit from a video producer we work with. They’re a superb solution that avoids lots of training wires around your subject, just allowing the tiny combined mic and transmitter unit to be clipped on to clothing (Rode also do a magnet set for attaching if required). The Transmitter unit also has a mini jack socket if you wish to attach an external mic instead of the built in one, such as a lav mic or for using a shotgun on a boom without the trailing cables.

The Receiver unit is the same size but contains a small OLED screen giving status of connection, battery and mic level. The unit slides on to a camera hotshoe and there’s a mini jack socket output on the side, with short cable (TRS) in the box for hooking up to your camera’s mic input.

The units pair instantly out of the box and connection seems to be good so far in tests. We used for approx five hours and battery level was just under half, so these seem like they’d last a day of use.

Having been a big fan of Rode products for over twenty years, I’m not surprised that these are excellent audio quality for a great price, but this unit exceeded my expectations – this set punches well above its weight given the price and ingenuity of the kit.

  37. Edgar9160o says:

    I love this mic.
    – It’s rechargeable and shows the charge for both units on a little screen on the receiver, so I don’t need to worry about unknowingly running out of battery.
    – It shows the levels too, so I know everything’s working.
    – Sound quality is great.
    – It’s cheaper than equivalent radio mics.
But it loses points because the dead cat is held on with nothing but hopes and dreams. It constantly falls off. The new version of these has a much more secure fitting.

Brilliant, affordable and versatile wireless solution.
Seamless set up. Decent sound quality.
Have tested with headphones direct, zoom digital recorder via XLR to TRS adapter and Sony camera direct. All good.
Inbuilt mic surprisingly good, but for flexibility can be paired with input from external standard lav, shotgun, boom, handheld mic etc (although may require adapter cables.)

I was going to buy a dedicated lav mic to use with this, but remembered I have a Rode Smartlav mic lying around. The Smartlav has a triple sleeve connector for use with bidirectional smartphone headphone sockets (remember them?) And isn’t natively compatible with the input on the Wireless Go transmitter input, but luckily Rode sell an adapter (Rode SC3) which converts output to standard TRS which I can confirm works a treat.
9.99 is expensive for tiny cable, but cheaper than a new mic. I’m sure much cheaper alternatives could be sourced / made though.

Only thing that may be a disappointment to some, is that the Wireless Go is a single paired set of transmitter and receiver. The receiver can only handle input from one transmitter. So not ideal for situations with more than one subject. On camera interviewer and interviewee for example.
You would need multiple paired Wireless Go sets and a mini mixer to achieve something like that.
If you do need a multi feed option, I would avoid the standard Wireless Go and instead pick up the recently released Wireless Go 2, which comes with 2 transmittes as standard for about the price of 2 of the standard sets.
But for now this is fine for my needs.

Very compact microphone, ideal for wireless interview recordings etc. Got it at a good price when reduced, although there is a newer model out now with two transmitters that might be an option. Works best indoors, can be used outdoors over a decent distance also but only in line of sight (ie don’t wear it in your back pocket when facing the camera as the signal may drop out). The wind sock on the built in microphone is not the best design as it pops off easily but I’m not using it that much so not a problem. otherwise very pleased with it!

Its so easy to set up and pair and comes with everything you need in the box, the charge on each unit lasts considerably well and the sound quality even on Zoom is really good. Great product at a reasonable price from a reliable company. There are some limitations to its use as it works on the 2.4Ghz bluetooth band, not allocated radio mic. frequencies, so interference could be an issue under circumstances that Rode are entirely open about in the blurb. Great for the budget conscious amateur using small, prosumer cameras.
I’m using it, cautiously, in a professional setting where the small size, light weight and long battery life are a big advantage.
Single criticism is the useless wind gags provided for the built in mic on the transmitter. Falls off very easily despite (I u understand) having been modified to prevent this. Get a plug in lav. mic. for it.

The lapel clip on is small enough to not get in the way and the sound quality of the mic is very good. You can also input an external mic if you want to and the battery life lasts at least 6-7 hours (takes no time to charge). Purchased this to give me something light and versatile to take around with me for video conferencing either on my Macbook, iPad or iPhone. Also purchased with the view of doing some videos either using my iPhone or Canon M50. It comes with what is needed to get set up for use with a dedicated camera. However, disappointingly you need to purchase additional cables to connect it to a laptop and iPhone/iPad. This will set you back another 30 and can be abit confusing knowing what to get as they all look the same. Despite this, it ups the audio quality alot and gives alot of freedom to use them in a variety of manners with lots of different devices. Would recommend the RDE Microphones Interview GO Handheld Adaptor as then turns it into a portable desk mic when paired with a stand. Adding up the accessories mentioned can add to the overall cost. However, if just using what you get out of the box it still provides great quality audio and flexibility.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery easy to set up and use. I use it mostly with laptop (with supplied lead) / tablet (with appropriate TRRS cable for tablet). Used mostly for video conferences and live streaming where the camera/laptop are on the other side of the room, but for decent sound, this is quick and easy to set up.

The internal mic is fine, but for a more professional look, I also have the RDE Lavalier mic to plug into this.

I have never had any issues with sound quality, and it’s a high quality product.

Two small criticisms I would have:

The remote mic unit could use a mute button. (It has power ON/OFF) but a quick mute button would have been a nice touch for conferences/live work, especially if you need to do a quick switch between presenters, taking the mic off one person and put it on the next person without having to mute in software or on the sound desk.

Other is… non-user replaceable batteries. For such an expensive product, I would prefer there to be a battery replacement option. Once the batteries stop being new and awesome, this limits the lifespan of the product, unless there is some way to send it back to get internal batteries replaced.

Superb design and quality engineering. Its so tiny and cute you feel like buying it just for its looks, but don’t let the cute looks fool you as to how good these units are. Surprisingly long battery life despite its tiny size. Pairing them up and using them is the definition of simplicity itself. Just switch them on and you are ready to go. Love them. The clip on wind dead cat is useless. It keeps falling off as it’s very difficult to attach.

Sound quality is fine if you are in direct line of sight.

Very easy to use and quick to set up.

    Would recommend.

I bought a Ride dead cat to reduce the wind noise.

I am a yogi and a yoga teacher and needed a mic for sound quality.
It wasnt the easiest to search mics as theres many to choose from?

My worry was the Feed back concerns re sound when speaking. Battery as well.

Needed a device that you could stand on your head and not worry(movement) it wouldnt fall off or tangle .
Ive not used this long’ however I am so far very happy!!!
I think the price is fine as often a recommendation is think why a device is so cheap? “Its normally a catch”

Tested: Tested going out the room and recording sound and I heard mysef as if I was in the room so very happy there.

If I bend my head down I only sounded lightly deaper in my voice qnd dudnt hear muffling so sound quality for me is good.

I did buy the extra mic which cost 50 and attaches to my top with ease and the external connection cord from rodes which works on my android phone perfectly.

    Im very happy

I bough these to shoot Yoga videos as the camera’s mic was picking up too much stray noise. The difference that using the Wireless Go makes is night and day. No external noise and really great clear audio from the instructor. A must for anyone who is serious about shooting video (especially YouTubers). I use them without an additional Lavellier Mic as the inbuilt mic is more than good enough quality.

I’m very happy with the Rode mic set-up that I received and would recommend it to anyone who needs a home mic recording system. I am not an audio expert, but the directional mic filters out all the unnecessary background sound from the busy road that I live next to. I did find it expensive (160), but I suppose you get what you pay for.

Unfortunately when the original kit arrived the digital read out from the receiver didn’t work so I sent it back to RODE. After a few tests and within a couple of weeks they replaced it.
The second combo works fine. The sound quality is good and I like the rugged design. Also in these covid times it is easier to clean the mic block rather than have a fiddly mic on a clip.

The tiny fluffy wind shield is good but it can detach quite easily so beware.

Wow, wow and wow! Did I say wow?

A pretty much essential item for any videographer, filmmaker, blogger, podcaster etc.

Incredibly easy to deploy, great sound from the built-in microphone or even better with a decent TRS connection Lavalier microphone.

Excellent battery life, easy to recharge and can be used for all sorts of audio applications.

Don’t bother with cheaper alternatives, this works out of the box and will likely delight you.

The new supplier redesigned wind socks fit very well and reduce gentle wind noise very successfully.

Should you wish to use this with a mixer or recorder with XLR input, also purchase a RODE VXLR+ adapter. The PLUS adapter model is important, as it reduces the recorder or mixer’s Phantom power down to a low voltage. The receiver will otherwise be damaged if Phantom power is accidentally used with an adapter without voltage reduction.

I had purchased a low cost wireless lavalier system but returned it immediately because the sound quality was dreadful. I went ahed and paid more for the Rode system and it is truly superb. The sound quality and range between the transmitter and receiver are great. Just don’t forget to mute sound if you need to visit the bathroom during a zoom meeting !!!

Super light. I would like the battery life to be a little longer than the 6 hours or to be able to get refill so that it can cover a full day of say 9 h-10 hours.

The Rode SmartLav+ mic connects perfectly, but the built in mic is very good, too.

Remember, that you need to connect the receiver to some storage device.
The package comes with a TRS to TRS cable. This may be sufficient to connect to a camera.

I bought additionally the the package the Rode SC7 TRS to TRRS Patch Cable to connect the wireless mic to your laptop or mobile phone. That works perfectly.

I am a yoga teacher, teaching on Zoom at the moment and bought this to improve sound quality, The sound quality is great, and it’s easy to use. It clips on firmly and I forget it is there. There is one little block that plugs into the computer, and one that clips onto my T-Shirt. The computer immediately detected it so I didn’t need to do anything to pair them up. The instructions that come with it are a bit poor, and I found I need to buy two additional cables in order to use it with my laptop for Zoom – they are the USB to 3.5mm Jack Audio Adapter, and the REYTID Colled SC7 Cable (grey to black ends). The cable that is supplied is no good for my purposes (I am not sure what it would be good for). Luckily I found a good you tube video that explained the cables, shared by another lovely yoga teacher. Once you have the right cables, it is super easy to use. You just need to remember to charge both ends up every now and again (charging cables not supplied, but any standard charger will do).

I had cheap wireless microphone , which was taking so much battery and sound quality was awful . After doing the search ordered this microphone which is very good indeed . battery life is very good up to 7 hours , my case it last around 6 hours . Recording quality is very good , however if you are placing the mic very close to your face like on neck then you have to speak little loud otherwise it will make a distortion . Rod claims the distance is 70 m I tested this up to 80 m with no obescticlas and there was no drop of sound . Setup is very easy and it fits very well on most scenarios . Overall I am happy with the purchase it worth each penny .

Product is great. Lovely, small compact modules. Currently own two of them for two hosts of weekly video content, batteries have never come close to running out on a full day’s shooting.

Only room for improvement is the signal – please pay attention to other people’s warnings, the distance is totally fine but a thick coat can be enough to block the signal between the RX & TX. We currently host and film our videos as a two person job due to covid restrictions, so a few minutes spent prior to filming doing some sound checks often eliminates any issues with signal. Can often find a suitable place on person or out of shot to have the transmitters where they have a solid signal, and if you have dedicated camera operator or someone who can monitor audio it will be no problem at all. Just make sure you don’t waste a whole day’s shooting by not double checking your audio using these bad boys!

This is my second set of Rode Wireless Mics and for the price, are hard to argue with. The onboard mics are not the most amazing sound quality wise but adding in a lavelier mic improves it ten-fold.
Versus a more expensive option which may come with added costs such as radio wave licensing; these are great value and Id reccommed to any small or mid-sized YouTube

So I have purchased a few microphone options in the past, including many Rode products. This set however, is the best yet. It’s a really simple plug it in, switch it on and it works setup. I have been using them non stop for the past few days and it’s not perfect but it’s very good. So far the best run and gun microphone yet and as an added bonus, it has amazing sound for what it is. This is without using the lav mic (Optional) – it just works great for budget sound.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOrdered the Rode wireless GO and the accompanying Rode lavalier mic to go with it. The first one wouldn’t charge and was unusable. However a replacement unit was sent immediately and a courier sent to collect the faulty unit to be returned. No quibbles, no problems.
The wireless GO works brilliantly, you can use the on board mic, or use a lavalier mic, and use the transmitter as exactly that – a transmitter. On the receiving end, there is a 3.5 mm jack output, and the unit ships with a TRS lead to connect to your camera or other recording device. If using with an iPhone as I am, you need to get a TRS-TTRS lead from Rode (SC7) and use it with the iPhone jack-lightning adapter as the shipped lead does not work. I opted for a 3.5mm jack-lightning adapter from Saramonic which works fabulously and is much less cumbersome to carry and use.
I have had no issues (not that weren’t my own fault at least!) with any recording levels.
My use is mainly for video live-streaming and recording audio for a radio show that I have a slot on, and I can’t fault it. With a phono-3.5mm jack adapter I am also confident that I will be able to use it with my PA system.
It matches my Shure MV88+ for sound quality.

A great idea and so easy to use – charge them up and make sure they’re paired then off you go. Okay, it has problems if you want to walk a long way from the camera with the mic on your chest and your back to the camera but for me, why would I do that? I once used it for a Zoom meeting in one room and went to the kitchen to make a coffee and it still worked because everyone heard the kettle boiling so it seems fine to me. It’s a great design with the receiver fitting a camera hot shoe or clipping to a strap etc and the mic can be clipped to your shirt/blouse, still working under a jumper etc so people can’t see it. Battery life seems good but if you use it with Zoom I’d make sure it’s fully charged if you have long meetings. It’s a bit expensive for a Zoom microphone to be honest, but if you have other uses for it then it’s great not to have to mess around with leads and wires. If you’re a budding YouTube creator this is a great accessory in my opinion.

I use this when videoing myself giving talks to small groups. I use an iPhone 11 with ProMovie app for camera control (recording can be started from Apple Watch, not possible with built in camera app and possible to lock focus as well). I needed a TRSS cable as the TRS one supplied is not suitable for iPhone’s 3.5mm jack adapter. Sound level is high but I edit this down in iMovie when editing the result. The RODE receiver shows battery state of transmitter as well so easy to see when charging needed.
Pity sound couldn’t pass through the USB port (like Zoom recorder) as audio jack leads and lightning adapter wouldn’t have been needed.

    Highly recommended.

Within my working range 5-20 meters from receiver, absolutely clear and interference free reception/quality recording.

Another upside: As opposed to wireless UHF mic systems (which may require registration in certain countries or worse, operating uhf bandwidth may be jammed/blocked in certain countries) whereas the RDE Wireless Go operates globally on 2,4 GHZ bandwidth).

For MacBook Pro and Air recording: Please observe: you will need an additional TRS to TRRS Adapter (3.5 Audio jack) like the RDE SC4 which worked fine with MacBook Pro. With a MacBook Air this simply didn’t worked while both the MB-Pro and MB-Air have exactly same configurations (OS, Midi, Sound-in etc etc). For the MB-Air a different cable i.e. a “3.5mm Y Splitter Cable (Headphone- Mic Splitter Adapter) was required.

Using it for Vlogging, voice is Clear up to few meters with out walls or blocking objects. With walls and blocking objects in between receiver and transmitter, it gives broken voice which makes sense and Rode does not even claim to have clear recording with blocking objects in between. Over all product is nice with room for improvement. At this stage I would say getting rid of cable and having a wireless Mic and Transmitter which you can put in your pocket easily is Amazing. I like the product.

Video recording generally needs a separate microphone as the camera mic is often rubbish or not in the right place. A wired mic is an option but at some point the wire will be found to be not long enough or so long it gets knotted up on everything in its way.
This is a very very small, neat and reliable method of getting your sound direct to your camera or indeed anywhere else that has a 3.5mm mic input socket ie laptop, PA system, external recorder you don’t want to carry or be seen.
    It’s a great system, recommended.

    Awesome audio set up

Golden Review Award: 66 From Our UsersThis is a good little mic if you’re a dance teacher with a MacBook looking for a mic to teach online over Zoom in lockdown.

But it has been MEGA frustrating to set up.

First I tried to plug it direct into my MacBook. The mic comes with a cable to plug into a headphone jack and that had seemed perfect for me. I have a MacBook Air so only a USB-c input and a headphone jack. Given I needed to charge the laptop at the same time, plugging into the headphone jack had seemed useful.

Yeah, that doesn’t work. If you plan to plug into your MacBook it turns out you need a 4 pole headphone jack. Most headphone jacks are 3 pole. I contacted Rode and they responded quickly to let me know I need an S7 cable to connect to MacBook – 4 pole to 4 pole.

This should be made clear in the listing and there should be an option to add that cable, or get that cable instead of the standard cable, Rode! MacBooks are very common!!

    So I got that cable.

Now I could plug it in, but now new issues presented.

First up, my MacBook didn’t recognise the mic as a separate input via the headphone jack as it would do if using the USB connection.

That in turn meant that once the mic was plugged in I could no longer hear my students on zoom, nor my music. And I couldn’t select microphone as input and computer as output….because the MacBook didn’t recognise the mic as a separate device.

By this time I had also discovered that Zoom will not accept 2 inputs. So you can’t play both your music from your computer and a mic together at the same time and output both to zoom.

Initially I experimented with an app that allows you to put 2 inputs together and output to zoom as a single output. But turned out the levels cannot be adjusted, so the music was too loud and the mic too quiet.

At this stage I talked again to Rode and they quickly responded to advise me to get a splitter so I could run a stereo off the headphone jack too, to hear the music.

    Yep, that’s not the solution.

Because you need to input your mic and music to zoom. You need to be able to hear your music and your students. But you don’t want to hear your own voice. And you need the ability to adjust relative sound input levels of all these inputs and outputs to get the right mix.

And that means you’re going to need is a mixing desk.

Specifically a 2 bus mixing desk. I recommend an 8 input 2 bus mixing desk from Behringer.

Guess what this mic is not set up for?

    Mixing desks.

I plugged it into my new mixing desk and it just wouldn’t work.

I called my friend who’s an electronic engineer and used to do sound engineering when we were at student tv together at uni. He advised that the issue is that mic is designed to plug directly into a camera or phone. Mixing desks are expecting a very different type of input from a mic. It simply won’t recognise your Rode Go when plugged into a mic channel.

In the end we worked out a solution. And actually this solution is perfect.

Because there is a way to plug your Rode Go into the mixing desk and get the right set up. It uses the input/output channels that are normally used for the USB connector box. And that actually allows for a better set up than you’d have with a normal mic on a 2 mic channel mixing desk because I have been able to rig it up so I can hear my students too on zoom and I don’t know how you’d manage that with a normal mic taking up one of the mic channels. You’d probably need to buy a larger more expensive sound desk so you have more inputs.

Anyway it’s taken about 6 weeks and an extra outlay on top of this mic of about 150 for mixing desk, cables and USB connector box to sort what I wanted!!! But I am finally there.

This is a bit of a lengthy review but I hope it helps you avoid similar pain and frustration if you’re trying to do something similar.

I also hope it’s been helpful in describing the limitations and usages of this mic. If you’re connecting to a mixing desk for any purpose other than mine, you’re not going to want to use this particular mic. Again, this should be made more clear in the listing.

And finally I hope this help Rode. Their customer service help was responsive (via fb messenger) but they didn’t really seem to know what I wanted to do or how I wanted to do it. I guess before lockdown they probably weren’t dealing with lots of dance teachers using their product with zoom. So while their feedback was always prompt, in the end it simply wasn’t helpful and I had to work it out alone. Without an electronic engineer for a friend I’d have ended up returning this mic!

I was looking for a wireless audio recording solution (I was using wired lapel mics into a Zoom H1 recorder up until now). I found these and watched a few YouTube reviews so took the plunge and ordered a pair. I was initially disappointed when pairing these up with the Zoom – the Receiver seemed to pick up a low buzzing/interference. I think it’s do to with the proximity of the unit with the recording device. Either way, after some further research I decided to ditch the Zoom recorder altogether and plug the Receiver directly into my Sony A7iii. The unit is tiny/lightweight and fits perfectly onto the camera hotshoe. Lo and behold, the interference was gone. I can only conclude that there’s an issue with using these devices with an external recorder, so it’s something to watch out for if this is how you run your audio set up. Either way, I’ve found using these to be simple, hassle free (the units auto tune into one another, so no more searching for free audio channels). The only other issue is that you must have the Transmitter and Receiver in a clear line of sight with one another – failure to do so breaks up the signal and you’ll get a break in your audio. I shoot talking heads so this is not a problem for me, but if you’re planning to mic up a subject from a distance or if your subject is turning away from camera, this may not be the best solution for you. Otherwise, for a wireless mic solution, at the price, it’s been perfect for me.

The transmitter is very small and has a microphone built-in so there doesn’t have to be any extra outlay on a lavalier microphone. However if you want it to be even more discreet – it works great with the Rde lavalier mic. They seem very well-made and appear to run for quite a few hours on a single charge. I haven’t tested the range but its more than adequate for a typical interview scenario. All the charging leads etc. are included.

A NO BRAINER ESSENTIAL PURCHASE – DO NOT LOOK FOR CHEAPER OPTIONS and DO NOT THINK TWICE –

I needed a mobile microphone system and this is what the doctor prescribed – With the COVID19 Pandemic and everything gone to Teams I needed something more decent than a laptop microphone, something which could help me to move around without drop in sound quality and also use with outdoor recordings with my dSLR. This also works fine with PC (literally any computer) and just now finished recording a podcast and hearing the results – its phenomenal particularly as was recorded at a new venue which had not sound shielding and somewhat noisy at times – literally no noise was recorded and great quality through and through (satisfactory to my ears) – unbelievable !!!

    So PROS

    1. Great audio quality (This is a relative term i very well know as i play music and am not an audio specialist but i do know when i hear a clear sound) –
    2. The smallest system in the world – two small squares – no wires no clutter – vvv light weight – has replaced my computer microphone too
    3. There are 3 or 4 levels of microphone level control (only just read in manual – havent tested) – but for me is not really needed as it automatically regulates and even has memory for usage on systems – (I usually like manual things but dont feel the need with this)
    4. The RODE screen monitor is brilliant for audio levels as well as battery charge
    5. Further xpansion ability but using MICROPHONE GO to covert into field microphone or use RODE LAV GO (or something its called)

    CON (small)
    Battery change requires a specialist

The APPLE of MICROPHONES – perhaps not highly specialised (aka studio condensor microphone in a sound treated room) but most adequate for the amateur, novices or even perhaps pros looking to be mobile (as they tell me on You tube)

Very good piece of equipment, the wireless link works perfectly, no latency and a relatively long transmission distance – I would say up to 20m. The battery capacity is sufficient enough for my purposes, I usually film 1-2h a day. The only disadvantage is, that you can’t connect a second receiver – meaning capturing an interview with two people in front of the camera wouldn’t work if you wanted to use personal mics. In these cases you need to use a shotgun or a more professional wireless solution, anyway, I never experienced any transmission or connection problems, simply switched it on and it works.

Nothing – these are legit, awesome, great sound quality (for what they are – c’mon, it’s not a 5 grand Neumann microphone so be realistic) set of highly dependable wireless mics with more features (3 step gain control) than most. A genuinely usable built in mic which can be purposed in a variety of ways with the jack to add your own choice of lapel mic. Charge via USB-C, onboard display showing levels, connectivity and remaining battery capacity. Absolute pair of bangers, if you need a wireless set up that’s affordable, dependable and of more than adequate quality for any online content and, to be fair probably broadcast quality (*would have to check if they are on the list of BBC approved hardware, but you know…) microphones then these are your guys.

I spent ages reading reviews before buying these.
Granted they aren’t the cheapest but they really work well.
I use them with my iphone for live online classes and the sound quality is brilliant.
I did read some reviews that say if you turn your back to the receiver they don’t work.
I am yet to experience this.
I’ve even left the room with the receiver in and gone two floors down and still been able to pick up the microphone (monitoring through airpods) so I can confirm the receiver is excellent.
So happy I invested in these and paired with the clip mic they are a fundamental part of my kit now. Thank you

Wowser! Brilliant kit that needs no license! The mic works extremely well and will be used mainly in conjunction with my Canon kit and dji gimbal (when it arrives). The down side where I deducted a star is that it came with no user instructions so had to sit watching YouTube videos and experimenting with the buttons. One thing that evaded me was how to brighten up the Rx screen so I could see it in the sun. The ON/OFF switch does exactly that and hold for 3 seconds to toggle ON/OFF. However if you press once quickly it then toggles the default AUTO DIM/BRIGHT. However, the wind muff on the transmitter falls off when nudged and the clip connection needs to be better.

Excellent and I will be buying another set soon so I can conduct interviews without having to hold and share a mic.

I bought this a few weeks ago, and now I have it up and running correctly it’s an amazing little kit. I bought it for filming via a smartphone, but didn’t realise that the connector lead that comes with the kit doesn’t work with a phone (you need a SC7 cable for that, which you need to purchase separately). Now I have the SC7 cable it works perfectly with my pocophone (or any other smartphone I’m guessing) or ipad. It’s so easy to use and super light. I use it for filming yoga videos, so the fact that I can wear such a light pack is great. It didn’t work with my standard lavalier microphone, so I had to purchase a Rode one to ensure compatibility (bit annoying) but now I have it all working it’s fantastic. The sound quality is excellent and the range of the device is super. Battery life is also good.

VERY simple set up and seems to work well as long as you have line of sight (suppose that will rarely be a problem in most circumstances).

Was frustrated that it did not come with the cable/connector to allow it to connect to a phone. Had to buy this seperately which took another week.

Looks like it will be very good for video recordings and live broadcasts. Was hoping I might be able to use it for social chat and conferencing but because you plug into the earphone jack you get no sound. Tried a bluetooth speaker as a work around but it didn’t work very well.

It is a very funky little bit of kit.

Great little wireless mic kit that connects instantly & automatically.
Love the convenience of it. It is small and you do not have to use an external lavalier microphone as it has one built in to the transmit unit.

Also I love that it charges via USB C, this makes my life easier, as most of my gear charges via the same cable.

I would highly recommend this product for recording pieces straight to camera.

Also if you want to you can use this product for making other devices wirelessly transmit audio. For example a great use case I have done is; making my wired headphones wireless for when monitoring the audio from my DSLR mirrorless camera.

I would advise not using this mic for live events when sound needs to be projected i.e. via a PA system as the latecy is high, so there is a delay from when the subject is talking and to when their voice is heard from your speakers.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI already possess the Rode Filmakers Kit which I have owned for several years now and has worked flawlessly for interviews and other media projects, but I was after a true wireless system for making outdoors sports videos etc where lavalier mics can often get caught up or become disconnected. I have been using the Rode Wireless Go for several weeks now nearly ever day in a multitude of different scenarios and conditions, I have not been disappointed.
Line of sight is fairly critical with the Go compared to the filmmakers kit and once you have lost it you usually lose the sound completely but if you maintain the line of sight I have had no problem with it over distances in excess of 150 yards.
Fortunately most of my work takes place at usually less than 20 yards away from the camera and I have had no issues so far even when I have worn the mic under several layers of clothing.
Battery life is excellent and I have filmed with it for projects nearing the 7 hour supposed limit with no problems, I love the fact that the units are rechargeable and I have also charged up the units on site via a portable battery pack when I have been incombered with time constraints or have simply wished to film and record for longer.
The units come pre set and just require charging, small, discreet and light weight they are an excellent product.
If I hade one dislike it would be the dead cat microphone covers that come with the unit, they can have a tendency to easily come off but if you don’t film on windy days or prefer to fit the Rode Lavelier Go Professional grade wearable microphone to the unit this is not an issue.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI run a youtube channel (leon angus) and this thing is the best mic I’ve ever used. for the money, I don’t really think you’ll get anything better.

    here’s why

Other mics are great and have good sound too, but this is RODE (no 1) and 2 it’s so small that it can fit in your pocket.

No need for those big packs to clip onto you, and you can use this with a lavalier mic too.

With the lavalier, you just plug it into the box that usually acts as the mic on your body. That was you can clip it on your belt or in a pocket and have a lavalier setup too.

Even if you need for 2 people at once – on mic then just place box near the both of you can your done. Or you could hold it near a mouth and done. Best mic on Amazon by far!

Super small, excellent sound, really easy to set up and use, and fantastic after sales service. I have two of these and after I bought the second one I realised that the first one I had bought a few months earlier was not working exactly as it should. They are supposed to pair automatically out of the box but the first one I bought did not. It worked fine sound-wise, but you had to press a button on them both to get it to pair. No big problem, but I contacted Rode anyway and they said send it back. They replaced it for free in 3 days! I have used the mics many dozens of times for interviews, often in really noisy environments, and they work incredibly well considering how much they cost. They don’t have any bells and whistles, but I like that – I just pin it to the interviewee, plug it into my camera or sound recorder and I’m ready to go. Fool proof. If you are making a big budget production for the BBC, get one that costs 10 times as much. Otherwise use this – you won’t know the difference! Only one caveat: as has been mentioned elsewhere, they record sound a little “hot”. Just take care with the input level on your device. Nearly everything I have recorded has been good “straight out of the box” and the ones that were a little too hot I have corrected in post without distortion.

Rode have a great reputation for microphones. This is both for construction and sound quality.
This is a simple and cost-effective way to get good quality audio for your video recordings. With the transmitter being so small it can be easily attached to the lapel of your talent’s clothing to partially conceal it. Alternatively, you can use a traditional lavalier mic and put the transmitter on the talents belt etc.
The transmitter and receiver come already paired to each other and setup are as simple as just switching on both units.
The gain can be adjusted to suit most camera inputs.
The only problem with these units is that the radio frequency band they use requires the transmitter/receiver to be clear line of site especially if the distance between them is over a few metres. If the talent turns to obscure the line of sight between the two units the audio is most likely to cut out. Overall the ease of use and sound quality go along way to earning the 4* review but they are not suited to the most demanding needs of high-end amateur/semi-professional work.

Best investment i’ve made this year sound quality is brilliant after minor adjustments to both the go and my cameras, i’ve seen reviews about the audio dropping when you turn your back on the receiver, not had this issue yet, but in the wireless go’s defense it does state that it’s line of sight and i knew about this before i purchased it.

I do a lo of interviews at certain events throughout the year, and I’ve always been a bit frustrated with the traditional wireless mics as they take so long to set up, asking people to thread the wires through their clothing feels inappropriate. Enter this new system which is so small with a built in moc that I no longer need to do this.
Also if you are carrying everything in your backpack then this product is much lighter than the traditional system.
Sound quality I was worried would not be as good but after t=using them in a recent video the audio was just as good as my traditional Rode wireless mics.

Straight out of the box, powered on, recorded. Easy!! The sound quality is just what I need. I’m not heavy on film etc, just small intro videos so this is enough for me. But THEN I realised I had a CANON 6D… with no audio out port. The Rode Go ALSO has no output expect for going direct into the camera. So.. my tiny set up will now be a bit bigger and more expensive than I anticipated but hey… I need to upgrade my camera anyway next year. I can cope for now with the visual metering on the LCD.

Used this for my EOS DSLR and mirrorless cameras to capture audio from people on and off-camera when making movies. Nice sound with the built-in mic on the transmitter, love that you can plug in a mic too.

Super easy to use, literally switch on and go. Nice clear indications of battery level in the transmitter and receiver shown on the receiver on-camera. Batteries seem to last pretty good so far.

These are so simple to set up and use.
My only issue with these was my own human error. I forgot to monitor the sound and set the gain level on my first try. MAKE SURE YOU MONITOR YOUR AUDIO PEOPLE!!!!! such a noob effort.

I have had no issues with connection so far and I have used in crowded areas and reasonably long distances.
I will report back if that changes as I use them more.

Absolutely astounding value. I love you Rode!!!!

    So cheap So easy

I love this item from Rode – it’s freed me from the camera, and delivers great sound quality when recording videos for youtube, etc. Both units are really small, light and the clips mean they are easy to handle – I leave the mic unit on the top of my shirt pocket when I am out and about.

The one minor downside is the brightness of the screen on the main unit – on sunny days, I’ve struggled to see the display, and consequently wasn’t entirely sure whether my mike system was on or off.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is really a great product. Like really great.

It’s just a shame that after 1 month we experienced very loud static noise like there was a fault. No, it was not the Auto Gain within the camera. It was statis noise like there was interference. We tested this out in various locations, with all the same results. Eventually we declared it was faulty.

As an additional note, we did not expose it to the elements or use it much for it become faulty.

Amazon still issued us a replacement very quickly. We will see how this version fairs, I will update in a month.

To conclude: brilliant product IF it works and is not faulty.

I absolutely love this microphone set I have recorded a hundred YouTube videos using this microphone. I have been getting a lot of comments people saying my audio sounds really good. The size is really good you could put them in your pocket. The battery life is very impressive It lasts a long time. The microphone is a bit hot so make sure to go in your camera setting and turn the levels down otherwise the audio will clip. I highly recommend this product.

Good battery life and audio quality.

I have being trying to find a non expensive wireless mic that actually work. Rode it is usually more expensive that other competitors with the same specifications but in this case I am really happy with this product.

Golden Review Award: 24 From Our UsersI’m totally gobsmacked by the quality and shear simplicity of this mic not only that but it’s mega tiny too, it lasts a full 7 hours on a single charge with constant use it didn’t even drop signal in my flat through very thick Victorian solid walls some 10 metres away, the inbuilt mic is really good too, I’m just about to order Rode’s SmartLav+ with an adaptor for use with my Panasonic GH5, the reason I bought this is I’m going to film a mates wedding at the end of June and this is so tiny he can just put it in his trouser pocket and I can attach the tiny lav mic to his tie and not worry about the audio quality from a few metres away. So I give this an award of 11 out of 10 😉 Highly recommended

Golden Review Award: 216 From Our UsersI’m really impressed with this mic and I expect it to fly off the shelves. It’s great for YouTubers.

Although I have only owned this for a couple of days I have still been able to fully test it for my needs in different environments. The sound quality is very clear and competes well with my Rode VideoMic Pro and RODELink Filmaker Kit. It’s so small and versatile that I expect I will use this more than my other mics. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge and I have had approx 5 hours of use from it in 10-20 minute intervals and there is still plenty of power left. The battery indicator seems to only display empty, half full and full, but considering the unit and screen are so small, this is to be expected.

The transmitter, receiver, dead cat/wind muff and cable all fit into the pouch which is smaller than my hand. I can keep this in my camera bag and not even notice that it’s there until I need it. I will use this for both interviews and vlogging.

If you’re shopping for mic to improve your audio for online videos, this is the one! You won’t find a better quality mic at this price. Thanks Rode, great job!.

    SERIOUS Game Changer!

Golden Review Award: 54 From Our UsersThis is very well designed. The kit is small so perfect for run and gun shooting. The interface is simple and gives the perfect balance of information and simplicity. The sound quality is very good. The frequency response from the built in mike is good, especially if you place it well. If you should add a lavalier it does add to the flexibility to disguise the TX. Having tried two 3rd party lavaliers with the Rode Go I did pick up some low level RF interference – repositioning the cable eliminates this. I might put a ferric core on the cable to avoid issues.

Update: after two months of use I am loving this system. For normal interviews it is fine – and is much easier to rig on talent. But it comes into its own for documentary style shooting. I have the TX clasped to my camera ready to deploy in the middle of a location, stick on a table or near a group to pick up sound whilst I am roaming a room for shots. It is small enough not to be obvious if caught in shot – so I doubt I’d be using a traditional mike kit in such a flexible deployment mode. If I have a reservation is the need to keep an eye on battery levels. If you should let it deplete to 10% during a shoot you have to plan to recharge and that either means stopping or running from a USB power pack (which is fine as long as you plan to have one!)

Update 2: after 7 months of use this is a must have. The battery concerns are not a problem – I carry a powerpack and at lunchtime I just give both RX and TX a top up. If, in worse case scenario the battery level drops to 25% you can always run either whilst in use from a powerpack- which is no bigger than a normal TX belt pack. I have not had a single shot spoilt by transmission interference – which can’t be said of traditional UHF transmitters.
