Ring Fit Adventure (Nintendo Switch)

Mod 2 a

Level-up your character and yourself!

In Adventure mode, defeat enemies with attacks based on over 60 real-world exercises as you traverse more than 100 levels in over 20 worlds. As you work through each level (and possibly work up a sweat), you’ll earn experience points and collect ingredients to craft health-restoring smoothies.

Mod 2 b

Jog, Sprint, and high knee

Between fights, you may encounter some unusual methods of transportation such as squat-powered launch pads, waterfalls to paddle board up, and more! For more surprises, stop by towns and visit the General Store to get workout clothes that increase your attack and defence stats, or take on additional missions for super effective items.

Mod 2 c

Want to compete with others?

Pass around the Ring-Con accessory and select from 12 mini games: break boxes with gusts of air, craft pottery using squats, and more. If you’re looking for a more formal workout, you can create customised workout routines, mixing exercises and mini-games to help break a sweat. You can even track your performance with some estimated stats by using the Joy-Con (R)’s (sold separately) built-in IR Motion Camera, such as your heart rate and the amount of calories burned from your workout. This way, you can make sure you’re hitting your goals.

Mod 2 d

Go the extra mile!

You can even take the Ring-Con accessory with an attached Joy-Con controller (sold separately) on its own – without a Nintendo Switch. While you’re sitting at work or at a bench in a park, you can press and pull the Ring-Con to gain reps. Then, you can later sync the Ring-Con with your game to convert the stored reps into experience and in-game items for your character. Stay motivated and reap the rewards, both in and out of the game!

With the price, your probably expecting a really high quality product and I can say that in my opinion nintendo did not disappoint. This includes a RPG styled game that really makes you break a sweat and works out particular muscles BUT also includes a section that acts more like wii fit in the sense that you can do particular workouts and the game helps you to make sure your posture is correct (etc) or it allows you to jog etc. This is great for working out and keeping you motivated to do so which is the main purpose as well.

If you are still curious check out IGNs review of the game on youtube (type ring fit adventure IGN review)

Very well designed, easy to use bit of kit. Great range of exercises and difficult levels. The game has proved quite addictive to my son – the motivation to do more exercise and grab those achievements is quite something.

We’ve had it 3 months now, and more exercises are being unlocked, which provide reasonable varierty, but i’d like to see Nintendo add some more content in future.

This game is great. Gives a proper workout that gets your heart going and you can feel the next day for sure, but doesn’t feel like a workout when you’re playing it. You get lost in the game while you’re playing it so doesn’t feel like a chore. The tracking of movements is great and the game controls really well.

Not as good as I expected it to be, but you cant always review a product for someone else. Just because I dont like it, doesn’t mean you wont. The concept is great, the way it works it superb. We just dont use it as much as I thought we would. Kids find it boring, and I would rather go to the gym. Other than that it’s a good item. 4*.

Before I had this game I was a lazy oaf, now after hours on hours of playing I am a shredded, pure muscle, 2% body fat beast.

10/10 recommended if u want to be in better shape than people who do CrossFit.

Be warned, the game may kick ur ass but if u believe in urself u can achieve that dream body u always wanted.

Wow! This is one of the best investments I’ve made in a long time. Grabbed after Xmas to help shift some of those gained pounds. Yes it’s on the expensive side but if you use it regularly and stick to it, hopefully you’ll see results.

But its not just a video game. You have exercises you can do under different sections and theres also yoga! You can also make your own exercise set list.

If you do want to play through the game, it’s like an RPG. Gather coins for costumes, fight monsters and boss battles and lose weight at same time. Or gain some muscle!

I like that the stretch sessions at the end are tailored to what parts of your body you’ve focused on whilst using the game. And yeah, you feel it the day after! It also has a heart rate monitor in one of the key cons and you can share your journey with others.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this for my 8 year old son, purely as he wanted it for his Christmas present.

He played with this a bit for Christmas Day however he struggled to get the hang of it, he didn’t have the strength to squeeze the controller enough to activate the squeeze function.

He did enjoy the games however and there was plenty of variance in the games.

This game is suitable for all ages however I would recommend for ages of 10+ due to the strength required to control it effectively.

I know its simed st the fitness people but this is also great for the family. The mini challenges (I think thats what you would call them) are our favourites. We love competing against each other. The ring you use is very strong and durable, and its accurate when playing. Leg strap is a one size fits all – its a comfotable fit from the younger kids to thier dad. Overall It is a little pricey for what it is and what it does but it got all the family laughing and playing together and you can’t really put a price on that. its an excellent family game.

My son and I coincidentally bought each other one. Both of us use them daily he uses his at a high difficulty setting, I use mine at a mid level. Best of all is that my Wife on seeing us “playing” has joined in using my Switch. She currently uses it on the easiest setting but is already improving greatly.

As you play the game you aren’t really aware of doing the exercise with plenty of on screen warnings to check your bot doing to much and stay hydrated :). Only negative is the 5 minute video you go through when first using the game. You can postpone it until the end of the first level but it gets you in the end. It does at least give you the background to the game play.

Great fun. The difficulty levels are also excellent as is the option to choose your exercise. I have a bad back so its great to be able to leave out the exercises I cant do.
It loses one star because the ring swipe to the side to select movement is often either not responsive or too responsive, meaning it cycles through the options before you can select.
Its annoying but still workable. Still worth the money and makes exercising fun.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersLong-term boxing fitness player here. I run around 25k per week and wanted something to do upper body that didn’t involve expensive gym fees and the hassle of getting changed etc.
Boxing served a purpose, mainly for me stretching and getting my arms working, and 4 months in I decided to try ring fit.

Initial impressions were that this started development on the Wii, but it took a very long time to make it to market and hence here we are on the switch. It makes sense, this would have taken an incredible amount of testing and refinement.

Once the rather silly story part is done and you get cracking, I’m surprised to say the workout is really rather good. I had to stick with it, the first two weeks didn’t really engross me that much, but once the RPG elements, music, skill tree and power ups (smoothies) were introduced it really scratched my gamer itch.

I’ve always said that gaming doesn’t actually achieve anything – you play for hours, finish a game, watch an invariably pants cutscene and it’s over. Job done. Net gain is zero, just entertained for however many hours.

This is different. I get the game buzz, but am constantly achieving something. The entire game is based around resistance training with the use of the ring, and core workouts to strengthen your body as a whole. Making a smoothie? You’ll have to compress the ring for that. Navigating the stage selection screen? Turn the ring to move. Jumping over a gap? You’ll have to squeeze and hold.
And all the while it’s burning calories and giving you a workout.

Once I was hooked, I’m now doing it in-between runs. I select a mixture of workouts, which you’re forced to almost due to the different enemy types. And currently the Russian twist and boat pose are my go-to for battle and abs/core workout.

To put things in to perspective, yesterday I did 90mins and was aching after. This morning I am a wreck. And that’s on difficulty level 22. This is changeable as well. You can also change the jogging on the spot for the traversal levels, so that it’s quiet and less impactful on the floor (or neighbours). Nice touch.

Currently at level 92 I’m a little concerned it’ll all be over soon enough, having to revert to the rather dull sets, making it more of a chore. But I’m hoping there will be some replay value, extension or DLC on its way.

Overall Nintendo has really done it, a fun game with enough depth and a great workout.
And no I’ve tried as hard as I can and I cannot break the ring, just make sure the joycons are charged, as they vibrate lots so run out quicker than you’d expect.

Having injured my back 6 months back, I gained a fair few pounds and lost a lot of movement and feeling in my leg.
After back surgery, I knew it would be a long haul back to recovery and getting back in the gym.

Ring Fit however, has not only made getting back into fitness possible for me, but also enjoyable.
I wanted to work out with it every day, even if I wasn’t allowed.
It gave me good bite sized workouts that were not just strength, but balance and posture.
It got me all sweaty and the old heart going.

Was very impressed with the heart rate check, it was very accurate as I had my garmin running also, ring fit had me up to 140+ bpm often.

Can’t thank it enough, came at a perfect time and has helped me both physically and mentally throughout these months!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFirstly I hate exercise videos, find workouts boring and if I do go swimming or enter a gym I’m always a bit self- conscious. I am also not that into gaming. So why Ring Fit? Well for one it was convenient and a lot cheaper than a gym membership. Plus, I thought it might get the family moving even when the weather was bad. So after two weeks. Both children are still playing it about 30+ minutes a day. It is also a great hit with their friends and more miraculously I am still using it! The mini-games are fun, the adventure mode is excellent, even if I’m not that gone on the overall story, (the villagers are a bit annoying) but, I have been steadily increasing the difficulty levels to the point I know I am getting a decent workout. I would definitely recommend this for people who don’t believe that fun and exercise can regularly go together. You will be surprised how much you end up doing.

This has really helped me get fit during the very wet winter we’re having. The adventure mode has kept me going back for more, the mini game are good fun when friends come round. It also gives well rounded advice regarding diet and regular exercise. For someone who is trying to get back into exercise I would highly recommend, for someone who is already going to the gym regularly I’m not sure they would find some benefit.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersRing Fit Adventure is a brilliant way to become more fit and lose weight.

I’ve had the game for just over a month now. I’ve lost nearly a stone (with the addition of eating more healthily, which playing the game inspired me to do), and my usually spongy upper arms actually have a little muscle to them now.

The Ring equipment is sturdy and feels like a decent bit of kit. The game itself is a little shallow story-wise, but we didn’t come here for the story, did we? It features a wide range of excercises and is very customisable when it comes to parts of the body you might want to focus on. Also handy is the difficulty you can set for yourself, and while I originally started out doing only 8 reps of each exercise before moving on, I’m now at 16 reps after ticking up the difficulty every other day(ish), and I’m nowhere near the top difficulty setting.

Ring Fit Adventure is interested in helping you to get fitter in the right way. It cares about your posture, your pre and post-stretching, and keeping hydrated. If you’re nervous about going to the gym, this is the perfect alternative for working out at home. This can be the regime that finally clicks, as I know it was for me.

Golden Review Award: 278 From Our UsersNot gonna lie, am an overweight nerd who wants to get fit and I’m somebody who finds the gym gets boring quick and am not much of an outdoorsy person, but I’m a huge gamer so something like this appealed as I don’t mind childish looking games.

As a fitness game, it’s great, it gives you a good and varied work out and it works you into each work routine and provides good fitness and health advice along the way. You also have the option to practice certain workouts and also a variety of mini games to beat your own (or a friend’s) top score. The way the Adventure part of the game is designed works well to keep you in a good work out with the feeling of achieving goals each time you make it to the end of a level.

As an interactive game, it works nicely because the controls are very responsive and of course you run to move, which means if you’re not lifting those legs, neither is your character. It works as a nice warm up before you getting in monster battles. Monster battles are more designed to a mix of muscle and yoga-based workouts whilst the bits in between help with your cardio.

The difficulty level can be adjusted to your fitness level. Meaning if you’re unfit as me (and I am very unfit), you will be eased in, still break a sweat but not feel like you’re about to keel over. Though I cannot comment fairly on the hardest difficulties for anybody who is fit. There is also a nice touch, there’s a silent mode that adjusts your workout so that you don’t disturb anybody who might be in the room below you. It also has an alarm to remind you of your workout schedule even if your Switch is turned off. You can even do workouts with the Ring Fit with your Switch in standby mode so you can still record what you do if you so decided so you aren’t confined to just the game. They’ve definitely put an awful lot of thought into it.

As an RPG and it is an RPG and I’m an RPG gamer so I’m gonna weigh in on that. It’s “okay”. The Adventure feels very much gauged to young kids, yet at the same time I don’t think they’re the target audience, but I suppose at least it’s accessible to people of all ages. The character called “Ring” is very annoying and I’d probably have hated him as a kid too, but I can appreciate the workout based puns at least, as somebody who lives on bad puns. Drageux looks like he’s on steriods and the story is very cheesy and very basic. It’s not going to win any prizes for story or characterisation.

However, in terms of mechanics, you’ve got a fair number of the basics you might expect from an RPG, you’ve got a battle system, you’ve got items you can use, you’ve got a shop where you can buy and sell stuff, you’ve got gear, you’ve got levelling and stats, you can customise your skill loadout and you have crafting. Your skill loadout choice is meaningful, because there is a rudimentary elemental weakness system in the battle system (based on colours) and different skills offer different potencies and scope in attack.

I think the RPG element to it I think demonstrate the kind of depth a game using this control system could have. To that effect I hope the RingFit is not a one-game type deal. I’d be interested in future games that take it the next step further, mask the “fit” aspect more to have a more detailed in depth RPG element to it as the foundations are there. Then it’d feel less like you’re playing a fitness game, but a game with plot and elements to drive you to move on. I feel like if we were to see something take that direction, it may trick more gamers into exercise. I think something like Final Fantasy Mobius could be adapted to this control system because it has a linear progression between fights like Ring Fit Adventure has, it has turn-based battles that work on interactive input (in Mobius’s case it’s the touch screen, but that could be adapted). At least this is the kind of potential I see for the controllers.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got this for my girlfriend, and it’s the only switch game she plays. We both love the game and we have a great time doing our daily workout (we are both kind of competitive so we are constantly trying to be at a higher level than the other). The game is very original and really makes you sweat.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThought that this might be a bit of a gimmick, how wrong was I! Really does give you a work out at the same time as being fun. Myself, other half 10 yr old son and 7 yr old son play this and take turns. Rather than the boys getting up and playing games they did fitness for an hour this morning.

I will update after a week or so of using it. Brilliant so fa

Golden Review Award: 347 From Our UsersTo preface this I am fairly fit: I’ve got a decent diet, I cycle, run and walk every weekday and rest at weekends. According to my Apple Watch I do between 90 and 150 exercise minutes daily, burning between 800 and 1200 calories. I also love RPGs and bright colourful graphics in my games. So when I say that Ring Fit Adventure is both a really fun game and a decent workout, hopefully you can trust that I mean it.
In my first session with Ring Fit I calibrated the Ring Con to my strength and fitness level, as well as setting the intensity of workout I wanted (I went with Intense and I think ended up with 24/30 on difficulty). I then logged a 30 minute workout, built up a decent sweat, could feel it in the muscle groups I worked and in (according to my Apple Watch) burned 199 calories. But the best thing was I didn’t really even notice I was doing it. Jogging through the first couple of stages felt really immersive with movement feeling very fluid and responsive. The “battles” in which you do damage to cute cartoony enemies by doing exercises repeatedly (at first you have squats, over head press, knee-to-chest and maybe a couple of others to choose from) are really enjoyable and push you to hit the rep count with satisfying feedback on screen.

Is this game going to make you an Adonis? Probably not. Is it a replacement for intense gym workouts? Again, probably not. Is it a really fun way to burn a few calories, get a decent workout and tone up, all while enjoying a colourful, bright and at times very entertaining game? 100% absolutely!

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersKudos to Nintendo for once again coming up with a way to keep us lazy slobby gamers moving! I was quite intrigued by the whole concept of Ring Fit Adventure, and reading early reviews made me think that this might have something that other ‘game console fitness’ programmes might lack. “Ring Fit Adventure” mixes in simple exercises based on resistance, cardio and muscle movement but uses the genius game mechanic of fitting all that around an adventure game.

Once you’ve set the device up (which couldn’t be easier – though I would say NIntendo needed to make it clearer which way round you held the ring at first!) you’re ready to ease into the warmup, the challenges proper, then the cool down afterwards. The sensors in the Switch Joy Cons are used to good effect, both on the ring and on a strap-on holster on your leg. With plenty of feedback from both, and the ring being surprisingly resilient despite being made of plastic, you will feel like you’ve had more of a workout than you might expect.

Several developers have done similar things in the past (EA actually did a pretty good job with a resistance-based system for the Wii some years ago) but this feels like a bang-up-to date and fun way of using your Nintendo Switch to get fit. The games are pretty cheesy so if you’re not a fan of Nintendo’s style of game it might not be for you, but it’s great for family fitness, offering a bit of something for all abilities, body shapes and strengths.

Spot exercises and multiplayer fun add to the whole package. If you really devote some time to it, and build it into a fitness regime I think it’ll really work. Time will tell whether the kit can stand up to the amount of punishment you put it to in the game part of the challenge (I was paranoid I might snap the ring or that it might become work-hardened and ‘slack’ over time) but so far it feels like it’ll last a good long time before that happens.

It’s brilliant!!! Way better than expected. The ring-con itself is great quality and an intuitive accessory to exercise with. It’s a fantastic idea snd a fun way to exercise. It’s good value too ehen you consider the high quality of The ring con and leg strap. Really glad I bought this game!

My ring con adventure arrived today and I am really pleased with it. The controls are very intuitive once you get used to them and the motion detection is excellent.

I wasn’t sure how much of a work out this would be but I definitely worked up a sweat playing the first few levels. You can change the difficulty level depending on your fitness making the exercises attuned to your level.

From the first look it’s not the most exciting RPG game but as a way to make exercising way more interesting it’s excellent.

Highly recommended as a more interesting alternative to the gym!

Golden Review Award: 88 From Our UsersWe fell in love with it immediately. In one day, four people in our family were set up on this ranging from 6 to 75 and we all enjoyed it. Yes, of course there was a bit of cursing at the screen as none of us are that athletic, but the fact that exercises could be set based on our fitness has made it very useful for all of us. A lot of other games are nearly as expensive as this, but don’t have any health benefits at all! Invest one month gym membership fee on this, and I certainly guarantee you won’t regret it.

Tip: start with mini games to get familiar with the game first, otherwise the extensive tutorials may delay the fun for the family.

Golden Review Award: 125 From Our UsersThis is classic Nintendo. To somehow manage to squeeze a playable adventure game and make it fun while at the same time raising your heart rate is a great feat. Make no mistake this is not a gimmick. Anybody can play this from an fitness level and background. If the adventure game isn’t for you, you can simply use the Ringcon and leg strap with standalone exercises.
I go to the gym and run and i can assure you, i was thoroughly impressed at the workout this release gave me. Will definitely be using it everyday, even if it’s only 5-10 mins at a time.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersTurning fitness into a game isn’t a new concept, but most of the games I’ve tried in this market struggle combining a safe, efficient workout with engaging gameplay. Ring Fit Adventure is Nintendo’s answer to that.

The game comes with a leg strap for tracking lower body movement and the Ring-Con, which tracks the upper body and functions like a Pilates ring. Many of the activities involved require pulling or squeezing it. I don’t consider myself to be in the best of shape, but I had no issues with how much strength needed to be applied to get the ring to register an input. If you do find it too much, you can adjust the amount of pressure needed. In fact, the game does an okay job of allowing you to customise the level of exercise to your own comfort. The game also has a step by step stretch period before and after any activity, with frequent reminders to take breaks and drink plenty of water.

The game comes with quickplay, which is split into a bunch of set routines. Minigames. And the most surprising inclusion for a fitness game. A story mode. It’s a turn based RPG. You jog around predefined obstacle courses, high stepping, rowing and jumping to get to the end of each course. And it wouldn’t be much of an RPG without battling, so you also encounter enemies and bosses along the way.

Fighting and defending are done through exercise. You select an exercise during your own turn and the better you do, the more damage you inflict. Defending is done by holding the Ring-Con against your abdomen, which is easy enough. You choose your own setup before getting into combat, so the exercise you’ll be doing in combat is mostly left to your own interests. The game does an okay job of instructing you on how to move your body, but it isn’t perfect. It can’t accurately track posture or form, so you might find yourself straying a bit from what is intended. But the game does remind you to stick as closely as you can to what they instruct to get the most out of each routine.

The RPG design here is simple enough that most people should understand what is happening, it never becomes complex or demanding in that way. It is primarily a fitness game after all. That being said, employing strategy can make fights quicker and less tedious.

I’m not a fitness expert or personal trainer, so I can’t say for certain if Ring Fit Adventure is a better alternative than your personal workout or gym session, but at the very least it has been a fun way of keeping active. I can fit in a solid 20-30 minute session and I always worn out. Will the game give you a 6-pack and steel thighs? Probably not. But it doesn’t need to. It’s a fun, casual way to exercise and be active and it succeeds in being that. If you’re like me and aren’t that active on a day-to-day basis, this game can easily fill that void. I’m enjoying it a lot. I recommend it! However…

I’ve seen a few people online asking whether this game can be played in handheld mode. The answer is yes. I don’t recommend it. Naturally, you’ll have to keep a fair distance from the Switch due to the nature of the exercises involved, and the smaller screen makes it difficult to focus on what you’re doing. I don’t think Nintendo intends for anyone to seriously attempt playing the game this way, but if you’re outdoors and have a sudden, uncontrollable urge to play Ring Fit Adventure in public…I mean, you could. Is it worth the annoyance of trying to find a suitable surface to prop up the system, eye strain and questioning looks from onlookers? I’ll let you decide. (no seriously, don’t bother).

So where does that leave the Switch Lite? In a similar position. Except this also comes with its own unique set of headaches. Because the Lite model has no joy-cons, you’ll need to buy two of them to work with the Ring-Con. Ring Fit Adventure will *NOT* work without them. And they aren’t cheap (roughly 65 for a pair). They also can’t be charged on their own, so you’ll also need a charging dock for them (also sold separately). It’s not a viable option. The best way to experience Ring Fit Adventure is with the standard Switch model connected to a TV.

Golden Review Award: 56 From Our UsersReceived this on the day of release – great service from Amazon, and 5 less than i expected!
I work out with a maxi climber and kettlebells so i’m fairly fit and wanted this because it looked great fun and would get me moving on my non-exercise days and help me burn a few extra calories…Turns out I was half right, it is great fun but on my first outing i burnt 168 calories, according to my Fitbit, which was a lot more than i was expecting! I’ve only done the set up and the first stage and i did set it to a fairly challenging level so this may not be true for everyone. The ring is a lot harder to press than I expected and I really felt like i’d done a workout when i’d finished, which is a good thing. As with all exercise aids, you get out of it what you put in, and make no mistake, this is first and foremost about exercise but it makes ab crunches so much more fun when you’re beating up a dragon in a leotard at the same time…Here’s hoping Nintendo are already working on a sequel!

Seems pretty gimmicky to begin with but really does give you a pretty good workout while also edging out that little bit extra. It tells you if the squat you’re doing should be lower as you use your exercises to fight monsters in your path. If you’re on the fence about this one I’d say go for it, you won’t regret it! (just make sure those joycons are charged before it arrives)

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersOkay, so yes I have only had this since yesterday, but it is a well executed system. Don’t be put off by the ring con; it’s actually very intuitive when you get used to it. Game play is in stages, like Temple Run style but very replayable and nice to look at. Work out seems effective – there is a range of options to tailor it to you and guided warm ups. Not much in the way of character customisation just yet but looks to be something later in the game.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPre-ordered and received on day of release – am absolutely loving it. I think Nintendo have done a great job of taking existing hardware and extending its functionality.

Once game is loaded, software updates, then switch controllers update then ring is calibrated. After that, there’s a brief introduction video to get you started and then you’re taken to the main menu.

There are quite a few mini games that are a great way to get used to using both the ring and leg strap (some of the mini games require only the ring, others require the ring and leg strap). There’s also the adventure game itself but I was so tired after spending an hour on the mini games that I’ve saved the game itself for another day!

There’s stats tracking as well as the ability to connect with friends online – I can see that I’lll be spending a lot of time exploring Nintendo’s latest offering. Can’t wait to try it all.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersLoads more than I expected.
The reviews online prior to release were mixed but I still wanted to try this as I’m trying to get fit. I’m not just using this, it’s alongside my gym and classes (and obviously for a bit of fun).
As with anything what you get out of this game depends on what you put into it. Similar to the Wii – if you wanted to you could calibrate it half heartedly so it thinks you’re weaker than you are. But you’d only be cheating yourself! It really can be a strong workout and a lot of fun. The battles remind me of pokemon, if you buy the game you’ll see what I mean.
When in the game the sensors detect your movement quite precisely, so if you need to raise your knees to climb stairs you have to do it! Same with the exercises, it knows and encourages you if you’re not doing it right. One of the good things about it is you can go at your own pace. Even when moving around the world in the storyline you can jog at your own speed.
The strap on my leg was a bit of a faff as it kept moving but once adjusted it was all good. Its very easy to get your head around and the customisable workouts are definitely something I’ll be doing alongside the main storyline.
I would recommend this game. If you’re on the fence due to what you’d get out of it fitness wise, go for it! The potential is there you just need to have the motivation to push yourself. The same as the potential at a gym but if you don’t use the equipment you wouldn’t get the benefit.
