Our Story
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford, (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country; specialising in all levels of dog training, offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.
The primary drive for our company has always been to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and to improve animal welfare. The first and most famous product to be developed was the HALTI. Designed and developed by Roger, the HALTI was the first ever canine headcollar and has gone on to be the world favourite.
Today COA has suppliers, distributors and partners in over 60 different countries.
We believe that our products must improve the wellbeing of pets as well as helping their owners. For example, the HALTI Headcollar was designed to give owners effective control when walking their dogs without causing pain or damage to the dog’s delicate throat area. The steering action of the HALTI is so effective that it led to the development of the HALTI Harness, which works on the same principle of front control, but from the chest.

Was perfect for my puppy to practise his recall & also to help teach him not to run & jump up at every person he saw. Is still useful when meeting horses & cows in the forest so he’ll get used to them
We have a very small 2.5kg yorkie and the 10m normal recall lead is light enough for her. I wanted the extra length so didn’t go with the lightweight version as it was only 5m.
She absolutely loves the extra freedom it gives her over the park.
I would definitely recommend.
The clip is sturdy, but I have also added a screw carabiner for extra security.
I use this all the time as my dogs recall is not that good ,lasting well will often just drop it and let her run around. Have had it for a few months is lasting well.
Only used once so far but was recommend to me by my future boss I used for my family dog he loves it will be using on my work dog very soon… Might even buy a longer one for work dog there so comfy
We have staffy with poor recall and as not nylon no rope burns from pulling unlike other training leads. Strong clasp too and have recommended it to others who love them.
Really good our new dog can have a wander without us worrying about him not coming back

Didn’t care that I had to knot a loop for a handle, but seems sturdy enough and dog hardly notices it’s on.
Sent back as needs to be longer for my dog
Once you get the hand of it this works very well and is sturdy
Gave the dog more freedom but took some winding in it got wet dirty and trips people up if puppy runs back and forth

I now have two of these for training my Labrador. Great quality and work really well.
Good lead, We use it everyday for our dog (Husky) and it is very durable, even after few chewing on the lead it is still intact. Lot of different option with the clips to adjust the length. Highly recommended
worked really well for training, I just had to be careful not to tie myself up in it!

I have a 7 month old miniature dachshund who weighs 4.6 kgs and whilst recall training is the perfect lead weight for her. The clasp is lightweight and not clunky too.

This is a nice light lead, a good length and can be washed. Ideal.
Great recall lead. No handle though so I sewed one by looping the lead at the end, obviously this helps it not to slip out of your hand while the pup/dog is running away from you!

We love all the halti products. Unlike others this is padded so you don’t hurt you hand when grabbing it, dries quickly once wet and generally quality design means there’s no fraying

Very pleased with this leash. I am useing it now for 5 months almost every day. It is soft in the hands and makes looping up and giving out easy and allows a secure grip, with and without gloves. The clip at the end of the leash is safe and doesn’t erode.
Although it soaks moist of the grass or rain and gets heavier in wet weather it doesn’t loose it’s good grip. I definitely recommend it and would buy it again.
his is a great line for training pups and young dogs. It’s not too long and easily washed.
I’m using this with my Rottweiler pup (7 mths), leaving it loose so I can catch it quickly
if necessary.

Think this is really good. Well made and seems robust.
Good, strong line. My only criticism is that the material gets wet, heavy and smelly and needs to go through the machine to clean. If it was made of a wipe clean material it would be so much easier given the purpose of the object will inevitably mean it drags along the ground constantly.
A durable very long lasting training lead. Lightweight but very strong, works even on our very very strong Staffordshire bull terrier!

The perfect lead for training your puppy. Wouldn’t use anything else.
High quality thick line which helps me get my dog under control quickly. When it got grubby I put it in a net bag in the wash and it came up like new again.
Absolutely brilliant!! Still using this with no problems whatsoever,it’s still in tact and I’ve had the product several years. Easily watches in the washing machine causing no damage..

I was expecting the lead to have a handle, it doesn’t. I should’ve read the review questions and answers first. Width of lead is 2.5cm a bit narrow perhaps. The included training guide is just a few sentances but its pretty obvious how to use it anyway. Seems to do the job though so have given 4 stars just think the description and measurements could be more accurate.
This is great for training my new puppy and she doesnt get all tangled and doesnt hurt her if she gets her leg caught can get a bit soggy in wet weather but drys good recommend for training puppy or letting older dogs have a bit more freedom if hard to recall

This is a good strong line. One warning, if you use this while walking your dog and they suddenly run after something you could get a very nasty rope burn on your hand (I did) so be aware, either wear a glove, drop the line or get a handle attached which is what I have done. Other than that it is fit for purpose.
Well made and super comfortable. Do read up about the PROPER use during training as this will ensure good results. It’s not a ‘yank the dog back’ device!
I took my doggy out with this lead and it’s helped me train my pup to recall and give her good run with the comfort of her still being on a lead. (As I live near busy main road letting her of the lead isn’t possible) highly recommend this produc
Good quality product. Strong but light. Not yet used for training but have tried it out indoors and puppy movement not impeded by weight of line and no tangling issues so should work fine when training outdoors.
This is great to use if you have a dog who is still learning to listen to her owners!
All in all this product is great. I imagined it would be longer but that is my mistake. It could do with a handle on the end but I have tied a slipknot in the end as a handle so it is not a big issue. It’s a very strong and sturdy lead, just what I need for my doberman/husky puppy and she had great fun running around the park on it. Also it arrived right on time which is great.

Durable and so worth working on Recall in a field with my 5 month old Chihuahua. He had the time of his life running around with more freedom, didn’t recall him much as came back to me to make sure I was still on the end of the line.
