Our Story
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford, (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports.The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country; specialising in all levels of dog training, offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.

Worthwhile produc
Bought this to replace a lighter / cheaper tape training lead. Much prefer this one as it feels more like cotton, slips less through your hand, has a good weight to it so drapes on the ground and doesnt get knotted up half as easy as the cheaper one.
Because of the material and weight too, its so much easier to keep it organised when out on a walk / not get in a tangle.

This is the second long-line I have purchased and I’m really pleased with it. It’s super lightweight which means my 7.5kg Daxie can have it trail behind him without it weighing him down and I can easily carry it without the weight being burdensome. It’s durable and easy to wash. It’s made from fabric and not “washing line” material like so many others.
The only thing missing for me is a hand loop: it just ends. This is not the end of the world; we just knotted one in so that it’s easier to hold.
Perfect for practicing recall or for catching the dog when he does a runner!
Good longline for training
I brought this having used other Company of Animals products and being impressed. Although it serves its purpose it is a thinner lead compared the the company’s standard Halti leads, making it more uncomfortable, and your hands susceptible to rope burn if your dog suddenly rushes off/chases. I feel it could benefit from a loop on the end or something to act as a handle. I use with gloves for better grip.
Light but chewable!
Light enough not to bother our dachshund puppy when out. I would have liked something to hold at the end, like the loop on a lead – this just comes to an end. It also lasted two weeks, before the naughty sausage chewed right through it!! Back to the drawing board…

Was perfect for my puppy to practise his recall & also to help teach him not to run & jump up at every person he saw. Is still useful when meeting horses & cows in the forest so he’ll get used to them
Excellent quality
We have a very small 2.5kg yorkie and the 10m normal recall lead is light enough for her. I wanted the extra length so didn’t go with the lightweight version as it was only 5m.
She absolutely loves the extra freedom it gives her over the park.
I would definitely recommend.
The clip is sturdy, but I have also added a screw carabiner for extra security.
Well made easy to use
I use this all the time as my dogs recall is not that good ,lasting well will often just drop it and let her run around. Have had it for a few months is lasting well.
Very good value for money
Sturdy long line, material feels pleasant and not too abrasive. That said, it is still possible to get a skin burn should the dog pull this line at speed through your unprotected hand.

We have staffy with poor recall and as not nylon no rope burns from pulling unlike other training leads. Strong clasp too and have recommended it to others who love them.

Best thing I brought. I got this to recall train my cocker spaniel . It’s got to be the best thing I’ve brought for him. Generally he’s good but if he see I rabbit or bird etc he will run for it even if I shout him back. With this lead you still have the lee way to grad him before he’s gone to far. Gets really soggy when he’s ran through streams etc but the safety for knowing I can get him if I need to is great. Highly recommended to puppy owners. Easy to wash and hold when bunches up.
Excellent safety and training tool for dogs
Excellent product but gets very heavy when wet as it soaks up the water. A large puppy/dog would probably be fine with the weight but a chihuahua less so! These lines are a really useful tool and to be honest I think more owners should use them. If your dog does not have 100% reliable recall it’s much easier to hold a long line than chase down a dog who is going where he is not wanted or it’s not safe.

A great piece of training equipment for any stage…but especially useful when we had a foster dog that we were getting to know…and needed to keep control of at all times. Clip seems on small size but it seemed strong enough to manage our 30kg plus dog…

Gave the dog more freedom but took some winding in it got wet dirty and trips people up if puppy runs back and forth

I have a 7 month old miniature dachshund who weighs 4.6 kgs and whilst recall training is the perfect lead weight for her. The clasp is lightweight and not clunky too.

This is a nice light lead, a good length and can be washed. Ideal.
Great long line which is kind on your hands and also light to carry. As for the dog trainer’s advice, I added lots of knots at regular intervals so that it would not slip under my feet or in my hands when trying to stop the dog running away whilst attached to this, and even with lots of knots in it’s still very long. It keeps my young dog who’s not good at recall out of harm and gives her some freedom in the park

Great recall lead. No handle though so I sewed one by looping the lead at the end, obviously this helps it not to slip out of your hand while the pup/dog is running away from you!

Very pleased with this leash. I am useing it now for 5 months almost every day. It is soft in the hands and makes looping up and giving out easy and allows a secure grip, with and without gloves. The clip at the end of the leash is safe and doesn’t erode.
Although it soaks moist of the grass or rain and gets heavier in wet weather it doesn’t loose it’s good grip. I definitely recommend it and would buy it again.
Fabulous training tool
his is a great line for training pups and young dogs. It’s not too long and easily washed.
I’m using this with my Rottweiler pup (7 mths), leaving it loose so I can catch it quickly
if necessary.

Good, strong line. My only criticism is that the material gets wet, heavy and smelly and needs to go through the machine to clean. If it was made of a wipe clean material it would be so much easier given the purpose of the object will inevitably mean it drags along the ground constantly.

great lead for recall training with my puppy who is 4 months old
Does what it says, it takes a bit of practice to reel in and out as the puppy runs back and forth. You have to remember to call them back before they reach the end of the length and you must use a harness not a collar. Puppy seems happy, after successful off lead recalls from 9 weeks, he decided that running was the best game ever -away from us – so after a near trauma, we are using this until we can rely on his recall. He is a 18 week Border Collie. I am tempted to get another for his mum, who has only been with us a very short time as she has recall but is easily frightened.

Good and strong I use it daily with my 35kg plus bulldog cross and no problems
Long line is great and does it’s job but only reason didn’t give 5 stars as I really think they should come with some kind of manual rolling system (obsiously not like an extendable lead which has constant tension on it) I have made a make shift roller holder for it but do think something like this should come with it so your hands don’t get covered in mud in the winter months!
A worthwhile and inexpensive training aid.
Excellent as a tool in teaching and reinforcing recall. Easy to wash and dries quickly. A good grip. Just make sure that you tie a large knot near the end of the line which will help you to step on the line and teach the dog to return if it’s having a mischievous moment and not returning when called. I have recommended this to several people. I no longer use on a regular basis but keep it in the car boot in case it’s needed.
Great long line for recall training – used it a couple of times now including in class. I love how long this one is, allowing my dog to really feel like they are off-lead which is the main point of the long line! Arrived very quickly as well which was very good.
As for it’s strength, I only have a working cocker spaniel so she isn’t very strong so can’t really make that call of whether or not it could hold a bigger dog. I have to say it does look sturdy though!

I was expecting the lead to have a handle, it doesn’t. I should’ve read the review questions and answers first. Width of lead is 2.5cm a bit narrow perhaps. The included training guide is just a few sentances but its pretty obvious how to use it anyway. Seems to do the job though so have given 4 stars just think the description and measurements could be more accurate.

Good strong line, just one warning ....
This is a good strong line. One warning, if you use this while walking your dog and they suddenly run after something you could get a very nasty rope burn on your hand (I did) so be aware, either wear a glove, drop the line or get a handle attached which is what I have done. Other than that it is fit for purpose.
I bought this for my dog who enjoys freedom when walking but also loves to chase rabbits so being on a 10m lead is as free as he is going to get most of the time! I had a different make but found it knotted easily and this make is softer and almost padded so does not knot. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to give the dog freedom whilst being on lead. I now have FIVE of them for all the options of walking – as we enjoy muddy walks so always have one in the washing – and yes, they wash up prefect too!
Great Long Line
I bought this long line as my 5 month old English Springer Spaniel pup’s recall has started to falter, and I needed to ensure I nip this in the bud as quickly as possible. Long lines are useful for this, as it means the dog is not able to ignore the recall – you retain control. They are also useful for getting your dog used to staying around you and not straying too far away when out and about.
The product came swiftly, and was sent via the Royal Mail’s signed for service.
The product itself is great quality. I’m not at all concerned about the longevity of the product, it’s tough well constructed and will serve its purpose. I have mostly used the line in wide open spaces (fields, beaches etc) with minimal issues. The only downside I have come across is when using the line in fields with high (~1 metre) thistles, when the line rubs against them some of the spines go into the long line which can cause a bit of a shock when pulling the line in. That said, I can’t take any marks away from the line for this… it’s simply user error!
Its worth noting that the end of this line does not have a loop/handle. This is not an issue with the product,simply tie a handle in with an overhand loop knot – […]
In summary, the product comes exactly as described. Great quality, simple construction and no fuss. If you are after a 10 metre long line, look no further.
Effective when used properly
Well made and super comfortable. Do read up about the PROPER use during training as this will ensure good results. It’s not a ‘yank the dog back’ device!
CLIX the right boxes
Been/is a great aid in training and for giving my pup a bit of freedom on walks whilst still having control. Unless you are more than 100% sure that your dog will come back to you or won’t endanger itself or others this long line gives your dog freedom and you a piece of mind. Ok I have to keep coiling it back in but in regular use you end up doing it without thinking .

Good quality product. Strong but light. Not yet used for training but have tried it out indoors and puppy movement not impeded by weight of line and no tangling issues so should work fine when training outdoors.

All in all this product is great. I imagined it would be longer but that is my mistake. It could do with a handle on the end but I have tied a slipknot in the end as a handle so it is not a big issue. It’s a very strong and sturdy lead, just what I need for my doberman/husky puppy and she had great fun running around the park on it. Also it arrived right on time which is great.
If you have a reactive dog - buy this long line!

Husky loves i
I was looking for a longer lead for my husky. Being a husky he is very active, but also (being a husky) tends to run away. This lead is a good compromise and lets me train my dog to come back while keeping lead loose but still in my hand.
Does not have a handle, but one can be easily made by stitching. Soft but strong material and quite light for its length. Does not tangle while using. You still have to be careful because it can still burn your hand if your dog is heavier or suddenly runs and pulls.

I recently adopted a dog from blue cross and needed to teach him recall chose this and wasn’t sure if it would be long enough as they had huge leads at the centre but this is great, he doesn’t go to far and so far comes back when called! The only gripe I had is there is no handle in the end of the lead, it just stops would be nice to have a loop at least.

Durable and so worth working on Recall in a field with my 5 month old Chihuahua. He had the time of his life running around with more freedom, didn’t recall him much as came back to me to make sure I was still on the end of the line.
This is my fifth long line in seven years. I use it daily to walk an unruly large dog that was never taught recall by the original owner, so it takes a battering. The time I replace is when the buckle looks as if it is going to break. This would have got 5 stars but for the weak buckle/clip. There should be an option to have a more robust/heavy duty clip/buckle. As now fed up will this constantly breaking.

Brilliant, well made, stands up to being pulled over rough terrain, washed numerous times and still looks good. Used numerous times with pup for woodland walks so he gets a bit freedom but we can easily grab/stand on line when goes too far or other dogs/people approaching.

Served its purpose but in retrospect found it difficult to reel in as it is so long. I feel a shorter lead might be preferable to avoid getting wrapped around objects such as posts or trees; also it gets very muddy and wet if used outside so difficult to carry home. Best used in a long garden.

Good quality product with a nice feel on the hand. I have put a small hand grip onto the end just for peace of mind and it’s great for letting a young pup have a bit of freedom to explore without loosing control.
I use this lead for my kitten. It is an excellent way of getting her used to the area of my garden, without the chance of her getting lost. But she is supervised at all times.

Great for an older deaf dog
Bought this for when we look after our daughters dog. She’s getting old, very deaf so can’t hear us call her. This lead gives her plenty of freedom to do what she loves best…..sniffing around all over our local dog field. Definitely recommend.

ha.d this a while and only just used it recently after dog had car accident – gives her a bit of freedom without the freedom. So not using as intended as she is now trained for recall. Lovely and soft for my hands and arms as I have to take up the slack whenever she is close and let it out when she has a little run. Goes well on her harness which has a loop mid back and stops it getting tangled in her legs as it would on her neck collar.

Great purchase
Fantastic product. Used this to recall train my lurcher puppy. A nice strong line, good quality fabric and the length is fantastic. I always seemed to be carrying spare line as this seems like it goes on for ages! Only thing that would make this better would be for it to have a proper handle stitched in professionally, as I had to tie the end to make a makeshift handle.
