Fab piece of kit for peace of mind
Only gave 4 for accuracy and battery life. For accuracy sometimes there is the odd random GPS ping that’s miles out, but it’s obvious so gets ignored, also sometimes when ‘live tracking’, there a little bit of delay. But it’s great to see how far your kitty goes (they explore further than you think). On the battery life front, it lasts quite a long time (days) if you don’t do ‘live’ much, but if you’re anything like me and an avid stalker of your cat, live wears the battery out very fast indeed, could use it up in a day easy. But on the flip side, it charges fast so you can get it back on quickly.
It is big, but light. My cat would struggle to even wear a collar, but actually doesn’t mind this at all.
A game changer!
This has been perfect for my two cats, it helps remove any panic when they don’t turn up for dinner! Great, easy to use and the app is brilliant!
Piece of mind as know where cat is
My cat likes to roam about a lot and can disappear for days on end. The Tractive GPS tracker now shows me exactly where he goes 24/7. My cat is over 4kg and the tracker does look a bit bulky round his neck. It doesn’t seem too heavy though and he isn’t bothered about wearing it at all. I charge it up daily although it does last a couple of days at least. The live tracker drains the battery quite quickly so I only use this for short bursts when I want to fetch him in. He has lost the collar once when he caught it on a wrought iron gate but I was able to use the live tracker to find it. I initially thought there was a problem with the tracker not updating within the hour (although the GPS signal was working) but have discovered he has a favourite spot he sleeps in down the road for several hours every day! The app is easy to use and shows a lot of information. You have to pay up front for the subscription which would be easier to pay monthly and it would be nice to have a spare battery, so that I could swap it over straight away rather than have to make sure the cat stays in till the battery charges up again. I cannot find any spare batteries for sale – only for older models. The Tractive is far superior to my previous tracker which worked off a radio signal so you had to walk about trying to find him. It didn’t work if he was amongst the houses in someone’s garden, so quite often I could not find him and he kept losing the collars, so it was quite costly to keep replacing the tracker and buying new collars.
Very happy
Very good product. Accuracy of the tracker is great and I can always find my cat when needed (using in a town environment with good signal coverage). The accuracy can obviously vary depending where you are. App works great and is easy to use. History can be unreliable as the location can jump around abit when not using live mode. The heat map is better to see where he is spending the majority of his time. Only downside is the battery really. Maybe just because it’s a new toy and I’m checking his location regularly the battery is discharging faster than usual. I would definitely recommend a spare.
Very good recommended
Very good tracker, I have 2 of them for each of my cats. It’s great to know where my cats go and use the beeper function to get my cats in when I want them in.
Tractive Works Really Well
Tractive is an amazing product that makes it extremely easy to track your pet. The Tractive app is the icing on the cake as it has many options to focus on your pet & its whereabouts. Highly recommended!
Peace of mind
Great product for peace of mind to where your kitties are. One drawback is dependant on your area, network coverage can be limited and will have a lengthy period to updating the cats location, hence the 3 star rating for accuracy
New model is substantially bette
We originally purchased this model – the IKATI cat tracker which was a bit of a let down. Customer service reached out and sent us the new blue model which has substantially better battery life and improved features. Don’t get me wrong it’s not perfect but I would say it is now what I would expect given the reasonable cost. Even the collar it comes with now is far superior to that supplied with the previous model. Considering the development they have made I would have no hesitation recommending their products and will happily purchase future models.
Peace of mind
Our cat Harry – normally quite reliable in his routine – has recently started staying away from home for some unknown reason. We had, on a couple of occasions, reported him as missing and even put him on social media. Luckily for us, he had been staying in the area, and a neighbour had spotted him so we brought him home, however he has since done his disappearing act a couple more times, each time being found in the same area.
We didn’t want to keep him in as he is very much an outdoor cat, so we decided to get him a tracker. After a bit of research we decided on the Tractive GPS tracker.
After reading some reviews of the included collar being a bit weak we bought another collar to put the tracker on and so far, so good.
Tracker is easy to set up through the app, and offers a lot of features – with an annual subscription. We opted for the Premium cover, at a cost of 86 a year.
The tracker itself is fairly compact and doesn’t seem to impede Harry’s movements, but even so, when he is home we take it off him to give him some relief from it. The app is good with a lot of features such as live tracking, activity monitor and history, which provides a view of his movements in the form of lines and a heat map. There’s even a leaderboard so you can see how well your cat is doing in comparison to other cats in the local area. There’s also an option to switch on light and an alarm on the tracker through the app, in case your pet loses their collar (this has happened to us on a couple of occasions and on both times we located it easily which is testament to its accuracy). However there is a downside – if cat is indoors or in a built up area, the GPS signal can be bit weak or non-existent. The map on the app is also not as up to date as it could be, but it does the job well enough. The map on the Tractive website is certainly more up to date, but it’s not possible to use the live tracking and virtual fence at the same time like it is on the app. Speaking of virtual fence – this allows you to set a “boundary”, so that if your pet roams outside of this, the app will alert when they have the area, and again when they return.
For battery life, I have only given 3 stars here, mainly because Tractive states up to 5 days battery, when in reality this is around 2-3 days depending on how much you use the live tracking feature (live tracking increases battery life). I would have like a spare battery so that I didn’t run the risk of it running out of juice if Harry stays out for a bit longer than normal but after having been in touch with Tractive themselves, they no longer supply spare batteries, which I find really short sighted, so I drop a star for that. To help preserve battery life we tend to turn the tracker off when Harry is home (there is a power button on the tracker – hold it down for 3 seconds or so to turn on or off) and charge it every couple of days.
Minor niggles aside, I really recommend this product. The app has a load of features that are both genuinely useful and entertaining at the same time. Being able to see where Harry is when he’s outside is really fun, and gives us peace of mind. It’s also good to know that if/when he loses his collar, we can locate the tracker relatively easily. It allows us to let him out of the house secure in the knowledge that we can always locate him.
Brillia
I was concerned the collar would be too big and heavy and the battery life would let us down but I was very wrong! It’s lightweight and isn’t a burden for our little girl and the battery life is brilliant! It lasts over 5 days if you don’t use live too much. Absolutely brilliant piece of kit and I would never be without it now!!
Amazing record of cat travel
I did not use the provided collar because my cat slipped it off so easily. I used a waterproof flea collar which is quite sturdy. I only left 1 finger thick gap between the collar and the neck to avoid having to go and find it as well as the cat. Otis rather weighty for a small cat but great functions to save, share observe the history of travel and area of intense activity. Fascinating but now our cat does comeback to his new home so I am not sure whether I will continue to use it as she is pretty predictable about her territory.
Works very well
Actually very impressed with this after reading the mixed reviews. Turns out our puss was crossing the main road and travelling about a mile away. Went to find him and it was very easy thanks to the tracker. But we’re mortified that he was crossing the main road, so he’s now a house cat and banned from going ou
Gives peace of mind
It’s not 100% accurate but we now know which direction our aged Burmese goes on his wanders..gives peace of mind as he recently went missing before we got this collar ! It does fall off so maybe the design of that needs looking at but we are generally pleased.
Tracke
I’m very pleased with tracker I’ve bought for one of my cats that loves roaming, it’s brilliant to have peace of mind where he is. I wish the battery had a longer life because I can’t follow him for very long. That is my only down comment.
Peace of mind almost guaranteed
Have used now for over 12 months, our cat Pepper doesn’t mind the collar or the unit itself. For myself and my partner, it gives us the peace of mind of always knowing where she is.
Traction really gives me peace of mind
Tractive may not always be 100% accurate but its close enough and really gives me peace of mind knowing where my cat is and where I need to start looking.
Excelle
My cat is a wanderer and now I can track him and find him if he goes missing. He used to have away days and I used to worry if he had been run over by a car but now I can go and collect him and bring him home.
Exactly what we hoped for!
This tracker has been brilliant. Fact.
When it first arrived we were worried it was a little bit big and might impact our cats movement and freedom. We were wrong, it has no impact at all and she has no trouble wearing it.
The collar it came with is good quality but we changed for different collar by purchasing a separate clip from their website for around 15 (only available on their own website).
Easy to set up and the app is very user friendly once the initial set up is done. It is great to be able to see where she goes and how far she travels.
As with any GPS, you occasionally get the odd reading that is clearly not accurate but these are few and far between. You get a notification when battery is getting low (10%) which gives plenty of time to be able to get it charged again and depending on how frequently you set it to log their location the battery can last quite a while (we have it set to log every 5 mins, which is the most frequent, and charge it every 4/5 days.
Love tracking is very useful if you are concerned about where they are and has proved useful for us already. When tracking you can switch on a light and sound on the tracker itself to make finding it easy. This proved useful again when our little one decided to hide from us in the house and we couldn’t find her anywhere! Turned on the sound and we were able to find her in no time at all!
All in all, brilliant product, well worth the money and yearly fee (longer the subscription, the cheaper it is overall). Would highly recommend if you have an outdoor loving cat.
Piece of mind.
Bit bulky but other brands are the same. Good at keeping track of my Annie who is a wanderer. A second battery is on order so I can have one on her at all times. Charges quite quickly and accurate information on the app.
The Company sent me a spare battery free of charge so should be able to use the tracker for quite some time unless of course she decides to lose her collar which has happened before with our wee one. What she gets upto at night (her favourite time for hunting) is anybody’s guess. Would buy another one.
Sound feature is brillia
I am very satisfied with our Tractive. I track my cat constantly and I don’t worry about her anymore. Especially after clarifying her area, I can easily find her with the sound extraction feature. Also, when I send a sound signal while she is going far, she stops and turns back 🙂 I definitely recommend it.
A reliable choice for tracking your pe
I have chosen this tracker after comparing a couple of other brands (which shall remain nameless) based not only on Amazon reviews but primarily on their app reviews on Google Play (I use an Android phone), as this is the primary way of interacting with the device for most. So far, I can’t fault it. I didn’t realise there was a local and global “league” of cats’ activity, which is a nice addition to its primary functionality 🙂
There are bound to be some off the scale readings, presumably when the GPS signal is too weak and the device is trying to triangulate based on mobile network signal – these can be easily spotted, as the history map has ‘heat map’ showing most frequent locations, so if I have one reading 2 miles away I can assume my cat (his name is Purin, see the picture) would need a jetpack to get there. However, it did give me some goosebumps at the beginning. The solution would be to mark triangulated positions with a different colour on the map, so they could be distinguished from precise ones (GPS based) – perhaps an idea for some future update.
The device itself is sturdy, has a nice feature of detachable battery, so you can buy a spare one and swap them if you require. The battery life is quite good: the collar was active for about 2-4 hours a day and after a week there was still 30% charge left. In standard mode, the device takes readings every 5 mins I believe; there is also the “Live” mode, which would drain the battery in a couple of hours, but I only switched it on occasionally for fun – and it seems to switch itself back to interval mode after a couple of minutes, to save battery.
Overall very pleased. I’m taking one star off for:
– the included collar, whose safety buckle was not strong enough for my cat’s claws – he took it off the first day, fortunately in the house, so didn’t have to look for the locator in the bushes; bought another, 3rd party collar then – fortunately, there is an additional clamp included in the box, so you can use any collar you want;
– the light & sound function (designed to find the lost cat or a collar I believe), which doesn’t always work – probably due to some communication problems; the application, however, “remembers” it was requested and switches it on when it is available; this led to Purin running frantically about the house with the beeping/flashing collar around his neck, when I forgot I “requested” the function a couple of minutes before.
Peace of mind for loved pets
Very easy to set up and use, our cat wanders off for days at a time and now we can sleep easy knowing where he is. Accuracy is excellent and the app is very easy to use. Would highly reccommend
Brilliant tracker!
This tracker has brought the utmost relief. My beautiful Bengal was run over and lost a leg on a very busy road close to my house. The tracker allows a perimeter fence to be set up and alerts via the App notify me when he’s left the fence. I can run out and find him easily, as well as being able to see where his favourite hunting ground is from the history. It fits neatly around his neck however the clasp could be stronger as it’s come off when he’s hiding in bushes. Saying that, with the light and sound feature, it was easily found! I love it and would thoroughly recommend it. I never write product reviews but this is amazing and worthy of one.
Easy to use
I love being able to see where my cats are especially as one likes to stay out over 24 hours. But also worrying how far away one of them is going, but at least I’ll know which direction to look in if they go missing again (taken in by some well-meaning person!).
But as both my cats are just over 4kg the trackers are quite bulky on them and I think that is why they keep loosing them. We have permanently lost one after just a few weeks of buying them, as the battery ran out before we were able to retrieve it (due to thick bushes, a wire fence and a railway line). There is a newer model now available from Tractive where the gps is more accurate (which would have helped), but it is slightly bigger.
Peace of mind
Bought this for my cat due to moving house. Was a little unsure about how he would react to wearing it and the size, but he has been fine. He was used to wearing a collar previously (half the battle) and this device, although looks quite big, is lightweight and doesn’t bother him.
It seems very accurate and the battery luge appears good. I do put it on charge every 24 hours in case he goes walkabouts, but it is usually still on around 50% when charging. Overall I am very impressed. I was only intending on using it for a couple of months after moving, but I may keep it on him permanently.
Brilliant suppo
The support from Tractive is exceedingly good and they can’t do enough to help you.
The units themselves are quite small and the standard battery lasts about 2 days.
I have the extended battery and that is good for about 5 days.
The trackers are that good and the app is that good, i have one for each of my dogs.
For a bit of fun and to hide what they actually are, i have used some bow ties and hidden the trackers inside (still using the collar clamp so they are secure) – see the picture.
Also like the fact the battery is removable, i have several batteries and it is a two second job to swap them over.
Best thing we’ve bought in ages.
We have tried a number of different trackers but this is the best by far. We paid up front for trackers and membership so quite a lot all in one go but split over the year is not expensive at all, given the reassurance it gives us. We are able to easily find our cat when needed we’ve used it at night and he was exactly where it said he was and can check he’s okay when he is playing out in the day.
The app is easy to use and updates quickly.
The collar is fairly chunky given our cat isn’t massive but he seems happy enough with it on and has not stopped him bringing us home shrews so hasn’t slowed him down!! We take it off and put it on charge when he gets home and he’s happy to have it quickly put back on again when he goes out again so we’ve had no issues with charge. Really thrilled with it, does exactly what we want it too and even better than we could have anticipated.
Really intuitive and useful
Very easy to use, the tracker isn’t spot on perfect but it’s good to a few metres which is fine when he wanders too far to find him. I find the AR virtual reality setting the most useful. I’ve found myself getting competitive with the neighbourhood cats about activity levels!
It does look bulky but doesn’t impede him at all and weighs next to nothing
Probably worth i
This product gives me peace of mind that my cat hasn’t disappeared off the face of the earth completely. It isn’t pin point accurate, but you can’t expect it to be really. It gives you the general location of your pet which will inform you as to whether you need to worry, or not. One thing it has done for me is reassure me that he doesn’t stray too fan and even though he may not come back for a while, if push came to shove, I’d be able to go to the general area the App tells me to, and I’d be able to find him.
The size of the device is fine, even though my cat is relatively small.
Battery life is good. The app also keeps you up to date as to how much battery is remaining which is useful.
Not convinced as to the overall price including the subscription, but at the same time, the peace of mind it brings is probably worth it.
Just under a month using Tractive
We have been using Tractive for our cat for just under a month. She has managed to get it off once and we managed to locate it using live tracking. We found it in the middle of a field near our house, with the help of the sound feature which emits a high pitched noise.
Accuracy is a little off sometimes but that’s to be expected of a GPS tracker. We haven’t found her to be too far away from where the tracker is showing her.
The size of the tracker may be an issue for some cats as it is quite bulky, although our cat is quite small, weighing around 4kg and she seems unbothered by it. The weight of the tracker in itself isn’t heavy and you can use it on your cats own collar rather than one provided if it’s more comfortable for them.
The main drawback for me would be the price of a subscription. It is quite expensive if you go for the monthly option and we bought it expecting it to be around 3 a month as stated on the website, but later on found out this was only if you purchased a yearly or two-yearly subscription rather than a monthly. I feel like for the added 2 a month for Tractive Care more than one replacement tracker per year should be available, especially if your cat is like ours and travels quite far into places unaccessible to you.
Overall, we would highly recommend Tractive as it as helped located our cat and that’s the purpose of it, but we feel the cost of a monthly subscription is way too expensive and Tractive Care is not worth the hassle as one replacement tracker a year would not suit most cat owners.
Initial concerns resolved! Recommend!
The device is large, which is fine for my cat (7kg!) – see image, it’s clear my cat is not at all concerned with wearing it!
Initially I found the GPS to be inaccurate – often darting from street to street. I contacted Tractive customer service, who provided clear instructions on resetting the GPS – they were able to check the devices data and accuracy remotely – the result is amazing. My cat (Domino) even lost his tracker via the quick release collar, and I was able to track it to a neighbours house – they’d found it and had it in their kitchen.
Customer service have been brilliant, and I’m glad I bought this – would recommend! Battery life also is great, if you don’t use live too often it lasts 4 or 5 days!
Amazing bit of ki
The tractive cat tracker us amazing . We can now keep an eye on where he goes and when he doesn’t come home . Gives us peace of mind . Excellent bit of kit and battery lasts days . I would recommend this to any cat owner who has a cat wich sometime stays out for a few days. Or just to see what your fluffy pal is up to .
Good tracker but poor battery life
I think it’s fairly accurate- the “heat” function seems about right as to where our cat goes. Quite large but luckily so is the cat and he doesn’t seem to mind it. Battery life could be a lot better. I am charging it overnight every couple of days, and it would be more if I used the track function more. Of the ones on offer this wasn’t the cheapest but seemed to be the best – for now. Just wish the battery lasted longe
Buy a spare battery!!
Edited: I bought this as I live on a boat and my cat, while amazing at coming back looks like a mangy stray who frequently loses her collar. This was mainly bought so I could actually FIND the collar rather than the cat. What I discovered that is that the collar is easy to use and charge it runs out of power after 24 hours and takes around 6 hours to charge. That’s a lot of downtime where this collar is going roaming on its own. The actual subscription needed is also expensive at 5.99 a month when it spends more time on the boat charging than around my cats neck. Honestly it should come with a backup battery. Or at least mention it in the description.
Fascinating to see how much distance your cat travels in 24 hours though – you’ll be shocked!
EDIT: customer service is EXTREMELY responsive. After seeing my review they very quickly got in touch to help me. They’ve actually sent me a spare battery so I can always track my cat. This product is great but I would advise buying a spare battery. First rate customer service though!
Good Bit of Ki
Originally the device I received was faulty as I charged it over night, it displayed full battery but it died after 10 minutes and the cat managed to take his collar off! Amazon kindly sent me a replacement.
I was sceptical about the replacement however I’m now more than happy, I leave my cat out whilst I’m at work so it is handy for knowing if he has a 2nd home (He does!) and going out to get him on a night or before I go out if he isn’t wanting to come in. Location is very precise and battery although would probably last 2 days of constant use only needs charging for a couple of hours a day. Would definitely recommend. With regards to which subscription the basic monthly subscription is more than enough for me. Not sure I’d be that bothered about premium.
A nice piece of kit.
This is very accurate and certainly allows tracking of your pet cat/dog.
The one negative is the sound it emits which in all honesty is pretty useless as it is so quiet. Other than that highly recommended.
Complete peace of mind 👍🏼
Have been using this for 2 weeks now, although a little bit scary to see how far my fur baby travels, at least I know where he is. Battery life lasts longer when ‘live’ mode is not activated, but it’s still new, so we like to track him! Very easy to set up and surprisingly accurate! Wish I had bought this a long time ago, my nerves may not be quite as shot to pieces as they are! Would definitely recommend
Excelle
I’d been using one of Tractive’s competitors for our cat for the last couple of years. It had always just been ok – good enough to stick with, but there were always a lot of bugs etc.
When we switched to Tractive recently I was blown away. Firstly the collar just *works*. With Tractive, I can always feel confident that I know where the cat is and I can ensure he doesn’t stray too far. The app is beautiful and easy to navigate with a wealth of genuinely useful features. Lastly customer support is absolutely superb. Someone can always be instantly reached via the chat feature on the website. Highly recommended!
Fantastic
I brought this as my cat wasn’t coming home, since having the tracker I can locate him easily and bring him home safely. It comes with an alarm and lights so easy to find the tracker if it comes off. Would highly recommend
Peace of mind
Really helpful to know where my cat is. Battery life is good and the device is easy to use. Love the addition of the activity / exercise tab to see how much exercise he is getting when out and about. This is peace of mind knowing I can find him if I need to!
Great for peace of mind!
Bought this for our 5-month-old kitten for his first outings outdoors. Great product. Battery lasts all day and really easy app to use on your phone to keep an eye on where your pet is. The light and sound feature also a godsend when you struggle to find them! Would recommend.
If you travel with your pet you need a spare battery
Does what it says on the tin. The cat does not have any objections regarding carrying it and it tracks him reasonably well. The overall package is a considerable sum, but well worth it if you travel with your 4 legged companion.
The only caveat is that the battery lasts ~ 4-5 days tops. So you need to carry your charger with your and/or have a spare battery (out of stock as of the time of writing). The charger cable is also unique to Tractive so you probably need one of those too.
Excelle
I like that I can just go find my cat without shaking dreamies. It’s got good battery life and is very accurately. Now I’ve got one wouldn’t be without it.
Great device
The Tractive collar for my cat is great very accurate and gives you peace of mind. The app is easy to use and has some great features. Yes you have to pay for the subscription each month but so worth it as it is very accurate
You can turn a light on the collar from your phone which is great if you are in the dark. Would 100% recommend this product.
Peace of mind. Know where your cat is.
Very easy to set up and use. My cat barely notices the tracker and it gives me peace of mind that I can see where he is any time. Love the heat map as gives clear indication of his favourite spots to hang out. Having just been through the “my cat is lost” for 3 days, this tracker truly sets my heart at ease. Twice I’ve been out to find him since he’s had the tracker and he was easily located. Can’t beat it for ease of use and peace of mind.
Peace of Mind
The Tractive GPS cat tracker was purchased for my cat to use when he is on holiday at my mams. He’s always gone off and come back but can cause stress when for more than one day, so I thought this would help.
The tracker isn’t 100% accurate but that didn’t matter for the purpose I bought it, I just wanted to know the vicinity he was in and that he was still alive and kicking. I am sure this would improve with the premium subscription but I chose just the basic.
It is quite big but Gatsby is a small cat and it hasn’t bothered him. It has fallen off a couple of times and he’s come back without but we were able to find it easily with the GPS.
Overall it has a few quirks but a fantastic product that means my cat can do as he fancies and I can have a relaxing holiday.
Occasionally falls off
The tracker is great – very easy to find our cat when he is running around outside. I use this as an alternative to taking our cat out on a leash as he is flat bound and has no other means of escape. He loves it, is free to roam without a clumsy human trampling through the bushes behind him and he can get into places that I can’t.
The only issue is that when he is jumping down from trees the tracker has on occasion fallen off – only when I have been watching him luckily but the collar is not as secure as it could be.
I have avoided this by adding a pocket to his harness.
Great !!!!!!
It’s great . My son was so worried about Our wee cat go out . Now we have tracker we can both follow him on app and we have piece of mind letting him out . I would highly recommend:-)
A nifty little tracker with a great app
Really pleased with this tracker. Our cat is quite happy wearing it and it’s easy to attach to his collar. It comes with a quality app which is well thought out and gets regular updates. You pay a subscription cost as with most other trackers and it’s fairly reasonable. We’ve been able to successfully locate and retrieve the tracker when our cat occasionally looses his collar, a good test! The accuracy is pretty impressive, and the light and sound feature is essential for finding it as you close in on it’s location. I wish it had a slightly better battery life, but it’s not too much trouble to charge it every 3 days or so.
Peace of mind for cat owners
I bought three of these for my cats and the difference is incredible. Knowing where my cats are at all times is such a huge relief (mind you knowing how far they wander isn’t!). The features on the app are excellent and the AR feature in particular is a big help. The only big issue I have found is that you can’t buy spare batteries which means you have to keep your cats in while their battery recharges.
Excellent purchase
This product is amazing I bought it to track my kitten after it disappeared for two days, I signed up on the site and had an incredible assistance from the team. I highly recommend excellent purchase!
Good peace of mind
Easy to set up and use, gives peace of mind that you know where your cat is. It can take a couple of minutes for the GPS to find the correct location of the cat when you sign into live, so don’t panic if you cat appears to be a bit far away , once the GPS settles it tracks the cats movements well. The light and sound function are good. The light flashes once it becomes dusk and you can turn the light on if required. My cat managed to pull off the tracker in our neighbours garden and came in without it, trying to catch mice down a mouse hole ! but using the GPS and the sound we found it with ease the following day. We usually charge the tracker overnight as she is not allowed out overnight so have had no problems with life of battery. Very pleased so far.
Excelle
Bought another collar to put tracker on as the black one supplied with tracker made it come loose on many occasions but stays in place with her new collar. Works great, gives locations, very happy with this. I charge the tracker every second night as it needs charged.
Very pleased with Tractive tracke
I was dubious about whether Mia would be happy wearing the Tractive but she doesn’t mind at all, Tracked is very accurate and I was surprised just how far Mia travels, she does between 2 and 4 miles a day. It’s great knowing exactly where she is and seeing her entire route sync with my phone when she returns home.
Good for what it is
Small and compact but once charged it takes 5 minutes for the app to register its charged. The GPS is good to a point however love function is not good we put it on live and while the cat was sitting next to us the app had the cat all over the street and when we looked at the history it showed he had traveled 1.5 miles while sitting next to us. If you keep it on regular mode it’s usually good at tracking the cat. Battery life could be better. Accuracy could be better and set up could be easier . The collar it comes with is useless better to put it on your ow
Amazing battery life
Live tracking to see where your cat is, long battery life, I’ve only seen it go as low as 85% after a days use.
Easy to set up a custom parameter so get notifications when cat goes out & in the parameter. Full history of cats activity which time can be custom set.
Brilliant tech. Big peace of mind knowing I’m never more than a few clicks away from knowing where my cat is.
No more stress 🙂
Great product fully recommend
brilliant piece of ki
his is easy to use and a brilliant piece of kit. Had slight trouble with the collar and clip it comes with, and the ticker kept falling off. Turned on the beeper once we were in the general area and much to the cats disgust we found it.
I switched to the blue clip put it on her old collar and have not had a problem since.
Really great to see how far she travels :-). If you leave all the features on the battery will still last a couple of days then just charge it back up over night.
Good item
This product as so many good parts to it, the GPS is really accurate, the battery life could be better but the app is great.
The collar that comes with it, isn’t the strongest safety clip so we put it on our own collar. Overall a good item
Peace of mind!
Bought this after my little pain disappeared for 23 hours last month! After lengthy research this tracker was the undisputed for what I needed it for. Once I received it I charged it as required then fitted it on the terror. It is quite big but he is a small cat at only 23 months but after a few wiggles and biting at it he accepted it easily but if you don’t use the collar that comes with it which I haven’t then use the blue attachment it seems to be more secure as stated in other reviews and is easy to put on n take off the tracker with it being push pins. The subscription you need to work the tracker is ridiculous but after reading the reviews then going through the options I did as the other lass who reviewed this n got the very basic at 8 a month which so far as done what I needed it to do. The live updates are brilliant and I especially like the safe zone feature so I know immediately when he has gone further than I like. The GPS isn’t brilliant in accuracy my home address for the tracker is off by a fair few houses so am presuming his whereabouts will be off as well but it gives me a rough idea n that to me is peace of mind enough. The battery life isn’t cracking either so far the battery lasts for a few days but the app let’s me know when it needs charging so its not a great issue and at some point I will get a second battery which I have been led to believe is available from Tractive but the app and the tracker itself is so easy to use just a few details and you up and running. To me this has given me peace of mind when he out just a few niggles that could do with some adjustments like the GPS n the sounds n light on the tracker itself as that isn’t very loud or bright so unless it’s dead quiet and pitch black outside the likelihood of seeing or hearing the tracker are minimal but he does have a glow in the dark collar so that helps me spot him. Overall I am very happy so far with my purchase it’s not ridiculous to me for what it does.
Best tracker so far!
I’m so glad I got this as
my cat was often out & I was sure she had another home.
I am amazed every day where she travels to, sometimes far further than I would ever expect.
I have purchased another 2 for my 2nd cat & dog.
I have had another & tracker is far superior.
This is the second Tractive GPS Cat Tracker for our Burmese cat and it is very good (the product and not the cat). The first one was bought as a Christmas present in 2020. Our cat initially didn’t like wearing a collar and at 7 years old “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” probably applies more to cats than humans. I had to write to Tractive after he would try to pull the cat collar off and damaged the silicon rubber bands used to attach to a cat collar. On each occasion, Tractive sent free replacements.
The battery life is not dissimilar to a smart mobile phone and so it may be possible to get close to the manufacturer’s claimed life, but it is more likely that you will want to charge the battery daily. It is certainly a good idea to keep the battery charge level up because there will be times when a “search and rescue” type operation to retrieve the collar will be required. The product has similar functions to a phone e.g. works with GPS, has a unique eSIM and has a phone (pet) contract.
A cat collar will have a breakable mechanism that allows the cat to break free of the collar so that he doesn’t get injured and it seems that our cat likes to get into scrapes with bushes, etc. at night when out hunting. It doesn’t happen very often, but the App provides an indication of where the collar is and retrieving it isn’t a problem. Usually it is behind a potting shed in dense brambles.
Inevitably, after 18 months the cat returned home without the collar, and (this time) the collar with the tracker couldn’t be recovered. I guess it’s not dissimilar to losing a phone on a contract and there is a need to get a replacement with the ongoing contract. Tractive did offer to supply a replacement at a discounted price, but I had already ordered a replacement from Amazon.
The new 2021 model of the Tractive Cat Tracker now includes a leather-look cat collar which we had high hopes for. Unfortunately, our cat weighs over 6kg and barely seems to fit through the cat flap (he is on a diet). The new collar is quite stiff and for whatever reasons, the collar detaches 100% as he (frequently) exits the building. Fortunately, the Tracker includes the original style blue silicone rubber and plastic collar attachment. Using the blue-collar he can exit the building OK.
It is quite an eyeopener as to where a cat goes, especially at night. Typically he will travel about 6km a day and the routes used are predictable. In the country, the routes will pass across neighboring properties and rarely will the roads be used. At one point, he would venture further into a field and then appear to move back very quickly. More than likely this was a problem with the GPS and there have been “over the air” updates from Tractive that seem to resolve and improve the unit.
The product uses a removable rechargeable battery. Why would you want a second one? It’s for the “handover” or “hot swap” of a charged battery. It doesn’t take long for the battery to be recharged, but if your cat goes outside with the collar on and loses the collar, then you can (obviously) can’t track and retrieve it. If you remove the collar whilst the unit is recharging, then the safety clasp will eventually become a bit loose – so you can’t win. On balance, it might be better to have two batteries and “hot swap”. Cats are not known to be cooperative.
Eighteen months on and our cat is both tolerant of wearing a collar and the Tractive Tracker. He is very accepting of both products. A pack of six cat collars is not expensive on Amazon at it may be best to think of them as a consumable item e.g. replace with a new one after a couple of months. The supplied black collar is just too stiff to sit flat against our cat’s neck so that his exit through the cat flap is always a problem but colored Amazon collars seem to work better. the black collar also errs on the side of being safer to easily detach, but also too loose.
Having a contract for the tracker is not really any different than for a mobile phone. For this reason, we started a two-year contract which seems to be a balance between a lower monthly price and too much initial expense. As a phone, there probably aren’t too many cat owners that buy the product and then decide not to keep the subscription going.
There isn’t much to say about improving the product. The combination of the App and the Tracker work well together and the Customer Service is good too. It might be better to raise the price slightly and include a second battery, which would be my only suggestion. Owning a cat is not a cheap hobby, and knowing where your cat goes is interesting and it is reassuring to know when he doesn’t come back on time, exactly where he is.
The greatest invention after inventing pets
Perhaps one of the greatest inventions for pets after inventing pets. No more headache. Easy to use – fairly quick to charge. Great fun for the family to watch our pet moving around and discover where he/she likes to go. Fun App. The only downside is the battery – I hope one day there will be trackers working for weeks without stop with acceptable pricing.
Love it, kind of addictive!!
It is a bit bigger and more cumbersome than we thought. It comes with an additional something (no description but could be an additional clip for collar). He has managed to get the tracker off (not sure we put it in right?) and lost the collar once (only had it a week and a half and he has never worn a collar before) but we got it back immediately thanks to the app. We love it but it is scary watching cats movement but reassuring when we see him coming towards front door and get to open it for him! It does not pick up his GPS signal when he is in the house or if in the glass greenhouse but everywhere else is perfect. The battery does not last as long as stated but there is 2 of us asking for live updates? It lasts around a day and a half. Check your GPS before buying
Keep the unit regularly charged as it seems to affect accuracy
Bought as we live near quite a fast road and the cat is ranging further afield. Overall, it’s easy to use and comes with a couple of collar options. Had my doubts as to the size of the unit, but our boy is not bothered at all and carries out his usual activities unhindered. Unclips easily and clips back on easily to the collar.
I would say accuracy is within about 15-20m which is generally fine and it’s great at showing the cat’s pattern of movement and his patrol range.
Definitely charge the battery every couple of days as I suspect that the battery life may impact the accuracy of the positioning. Last night it showed him very far from his usual range and indeed he popped up outside a few minutes later – which he would not have achieved if he was where the tracker said he would be. Battery was on 19%.
Worth spending the extra for the tracking service as I have some peace of mind, and could collect him if the worst were to happen.
Yeah, I’m pretty happy with this and would recommend it.
Accurate & easy to use
This is easy to set up with the app, making it easy to use. The GPS is very accurate and having a light on the tracker is handy to locate in the dark.
The battery life is very good but drains quickly if your always on live view watching where your pet is roaming. Being light weight is good and seems to be durable.
Impressive
Been very happy with the battery life and accuracy of the device.
The activity exercise part of the app is pointless but I guess it doesn’t hurt to have it.
Good tracker, I found it accurate.
First of all I loved this, it allowed me to keep tabs on where William (my cat) was, and gave me peace of mind if he ever got lost. It even has an activity tracker to I can see how many calories he’s burning. Unfortunately in less than a week the collar came off (its quick release so guess he snagged it) I traced to where the tracker was no issue via the gps….only problem is I can’t get to it because its amongst a load of dense/thick nettles and brambles at the far end of narrow gap between two fences!. Tried to force my way through inbetween and scratched to pieces before even halfway, and although I get on well with our neighbours (yes that close to home) and I’m sure they would let me go via their garden if I asked to short cut to where the tracker is I have no idea how I’d safely get over their 6 ft fence and back again anyway. So good while it lasted, I am debating replacing it but unsure whether any point if Williams going to keep on losing it that quickly…Maybe one more try, as I worry about him (What? I’m not an over-anxious cat mother at all! 😉 ) . Its not the trackers fault this happened though, hence 5 stars still 🙂
Easy to use, accurate tracke
Really easy to use. This is regularly the only way I can find my happy wanderer. Could do with a longer battery life and a fluorescent collar option (my cats are black)
Good value for money
My main concern around buying a tracker was will it connect and report an accurate live location when I need it to? Thankfully this device has worked flawlessly so far. I live in a rural area and it has no problem finding mobile signal. The accuracy can be skewed by the cat roaming indoors and this can have an affect on the heat map but when he is outside it’s pretty good. The device would be quite big on a smaller cat. My cat wears his loosely and it doesn’t bother him despite never wearing a collar before.
Accurate and easy to use
This is so easy to use, but the release on the black collar that came with it was easily opened by his lordship, so had to buy him a collar but the attachment fits on any collar very easily. Very accurate and have used it twice within this week to locate him. Highly recommend.
So far, so good!
Overall I’m pretty happy with this!
Tips:
– when turning on live tracking to locate your kitty, give it a minute to triangulate, more often than not the location that initially pops up is incorrect, but once the GPS starts firing on all cylinders it will become pretty accurate!
– you don’t need to fork out a year’s subscription in one go unless you’re going for the top premium package. You can click through options and pay 8.99 a month.
Our experience has been good so far, we’ve not had to use it in anger as of yet as our 1 year old cat is still very nervous to road noise etc so quite happy being skittish in our garden!
I was apprehensive about purchasing this based on some of the other reviews based on accuracy etc, however I’m really impressed. Our cat is just over 4KG, her mum was also a small cat, but the tracker fits on her fine and once shes trotting about she doesn’t even notice it!
She only goes out around once per day currently, and that’s usually for 30 mins max. The tracker is probably lasting 3 days by itself without needing charging (this is when in standby), so once I get a notification for low battery from the app I just plug it in to charge.
After I read that people were having issues with contacting tractive etc to request refunds of the membership (after their trackers were sent back to Amazon) I decided to just go with the 8.99 a month option until a point I’m confident in the tracker. It also means I don’t need to fork out up front for something (although I will do this once I’m happy with the tracker as it’ll work out much cheaper overall).
I’ll update this review in a few months once it’s been used in greater detail!
Grea
We love this tracker gives you peace of mind. We brought it as a short term use “to see where she hangs out” as opposed to everyday. It is quite big, but lite in weight. The accuracy is pretty good for what it is, but not sure it’s 100%. Battery ok and love the live option 🙂
The collar is also quite big and made as small as possible for our cat, so we were worried it’ll come off hence why we don’t use it daily. I would also prefer to have the option of 6 months membership as opposed to a default 12 months particularly as there’s a potential to loose the collar on the first week.
All in all it’s perfect for what we wanted.
