I think this a great tool, it restores blades in seconds. However it showers your work surface with splinters of steel. So, I don’t recommend sharpening on your counter tops unless you have a magnet to hand to pick it the splinters. I guess this is so for all knife sharpening, but worth remembering.

I personally think this product works well. It sharpens the knives that I would normally have thrown away (so great from a recycling point of view). Is smaller and more compact that the images suggest so it takes up little storage when not in use, and you can really see the shards of the knife as it defines the blade. Just a shame it makes that grinding noise as you use it (it just goes right through me, but that’s just me).

Read several reviews before purchasing. Quite impressed with it for sharpening various kitchen knives including serrated blades. Just place it on work surface and press lever down to secure it. Be aware that there are quite a lot of tiny sharp pieces of metal swarf that come off the blade you are sharpening so be careful they don’t get into your fingers. Some means of trapping them would be useful. Haven’t tried sharpening scissors with it yet. Good value for money.

The 1000’s of positive reviews are not lying this really is a great knife sharpener and it’s really impressed me.

It really was as simple to use as using the suction cap to attached to my (glass) table and then slowly dragging the knife blades from beginning to end through the cutting teeth towards you. I managed to sharpen all my knifes in a couple of minutes and it was really surprising just how blunt some of them had become!

A tiny bit of swarf/metal filings came off a few knives so be sure you catch and clean that up properly because you could get metal splinters in your skin which are really painful.

The device is much smaller than I thought it would be. For some bizarre reason I thought it was going to be the size of a Kettle Bell but actually it’s a bit smaller than a tennis ball and easy to store in a drawer or cupboard.

    Highly recommended!

    Fantastic product and highly recommended.

Keeps my knives sharpe and is compact enough to to quickly be taken out of the drawer and used whenever needed.

Suction system is great and has never failed on me. Can occasionally be tricky to lift the leaver up unstick but that’s what give me the confidence it won’t slip.

Can be used for all types of knives except bread knives (also works great with meat cleavers!).

I have been looking at this item for a while and thought that it would be much bigger for some reason, it was bought for me as a Christmas gift.

It really is a great little tool to have in the cupboard and has refreshed but stainless steel knives & so easy to use. Simply lock the suction arm down and pass the blade through a couple of times using light pressure.

We do a lot of self-catering holidays throughout the year and nothing is more annoying than a blunt knife when staying away. This is so small it can now come away with us, a simple life changer.

Such a simple yet effective little useful tool every kitchen cupboard should have.

    So great, yet so small

This is a small sharpener, but is absolutely fantastic. It is so easy to use and sharpens knives brilliantly. I have tried various manual sharpeners but could never get the angle right, so the knives ended up more blunt and I ended up taking them to my local butcher to sharpen, however you can’t always be pestering them to keep sharpening your knives. I even sharpened my Swiss Army knife which I use to open bags of feed and bedding for my daughter’s horse. Absolutely brilliant, easy to use and would thoroughly recommend. You can’t go wrong as the angle of the sharpening stones are permanently set, so you just gently pull the knife towards you several times.

I got this as I treat my knives really badly, and hoped this would encourage me to sharpen them more often. It does, as it sits by the dishwasher, so clean knives come out, get a quick swipe, get rinsed and dried, then get put away. However, the suction at the bottom does not stay ‘sucked’ onto any surface I try. I’ve tried metal (top of the microwave) and MDF (counter top). Still, the black and silver design is inoffensive enough that it can sit out and not look irritating or really obvious.

I had very blunt knives so it took 30 minutes per knife to bring them back. Now I just give 20 seconds of light sharpening to get them in top condition.
Suction cup works on a smooth shiny surface but not on my oak worktop. I have to hold it in place which is fine for gentle sharpening. If you need to sharpen a very blunt knife you have to get a good shiny surface to keep the thing in place.
I am very happy for the money. The only thing that would be better is a wet stone but they are dirty and not nice to have in the kitchen.

This little sharpener is great for sharpening knives. It’s usually such a chore to sharpen the kitchen knives but this little tool makes it so easy and quick to keep your knives sharp. The suction on it is excellent and it is indeed very effective (although I have found that knives need to be taken through it a lot more times than stated in the description and video). Especially if your knives are a little blunt, you might need to repeat the process a few times but nothing too difficult or lengthy. And once you get on a routine, which this thing makes it easy to do, it’s quick to keep them sharp.

You can see visibly see the little specs of metal coming off during the sharpening process. I found myself thinking a few times, hmm this knife hasn’t been sharpened enough, only to cut myself seconds later while gently cleaning it. So..it does what it says on the tin. Be careful with the knives afterwards!

It’s very small compared to what I was expecting- but that’s turned out to be completely irrelevant! It’s brilliant! I’ve only had a steel to sharpen before, but have got tired of not so sharp knives.

Suction pad is excellent, (it’s really too small to hold safely when sharpening, hence no rating as you’re not supposed to hold it anyway!)

You really must NOT press too hard, the knife won’t sharpen. Just run it through the “jaws) with little or no pressure at all – you’ll be surprised, it’s superb.

On top of that it looks really cool too!!!!!!!

    Buy one!

This is the most exciting purchase I’ve made this year!!
I bought a set of fancy knives this year only to find a few weeks after using how blunt they had become. I bought this and it’s been so easy and satisfying sharpening my new and actually my old knives so that they are superbly sharp (the video of the guy slicing soft tomatoes is spot on!) I’ve even sharpened scissors on there.
I don’t know how long this will last- but I’d happily buy a new one if anything happened to this one!
It’s genuinely made light work of chopping!!

This product is an excellent addition to my kitchen. I like to keep my knives sharp and after viewing the video about this sharpener on the Amazon site I was impressed enough to buy. The suction pad works and fixes firmly to my kitchen worktop and with only a few light swipes it has sharpened several knives very quickly. A really good product that does exactly as described on Amazon.

Suction mount is excellent and also easy to release.
You can’t go wrong using it, the knife is sharpened with a few pulls through the v-shaped sharpener, so for price and convenience 9and a sharp knife!) it is a very good buy.
The sound of the blade against the sharpener may or may not set your teeth on edge, but the result is probably worth getting used to it. However, I do prefer the sound of my traditional stone!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have been using a knife sharpening steel for years with varied results but I wanted something that was quick and easy so thought this might do the job.

Amazed how good it is, sit the sharpener on a solid surface and pull the arm over so that the suction cup engages and it stays firmly to the surface.

You then lay the knife between the to sharpening blades and pull towards you, it takes a few goes when first using a new knife to get it sharp but I would say after it has shaped the knife slightly it take very little effort to stay sharp.

Just a couple of strokes needed to keep a knife razor sharp after initial use, it’s a real joy to use, very impressed with this little sharpening gadge

Perfect. No complaints really. The only thing that might be better is if it was designed for use with larger knives. But it’s designed for more moderate sizes so it’s not a complaint, just a thought at most. I use this whenever the blades are feeling a little dull & when it comes to cutting veg, the effect is immediately noticeable. It’s spot on. The suction is powerful & the whole thing feels very safe to use. A few drags of the blade, I normally feel between half a dozen & a dozen is more than adequate.

    Sharpens wonderfully.

Arrived in branded blister pack. Item was exactly as described, very easy to set up and use. Sharpened all of my knives effortlessly and precisely. This sharpener is tiny but works really well and takes up very little drawer space. I would definitely recommend.

Please note: Some reviewers said they received a cheap Chinese knock-off that didn’t workor broke. I can only assume they didn’t buy from the Anysharp shop on Amazon. This one is definitely the real deal (with clear branding and a hologram on the body). I’ve only had a pit a short while but it seems well made and sturdy.

I’m not one for writing reviews, but I decided to give it a go for this little gem of a tool just because it deserves it, being one of those rare findings offering thousands of reviews overwhelmingly positive, incredibly affordable even if you’re on the dole, and, as I had the joy of using it for the first time, extremely efficient to perform the simple task it’s been bought for: turning knives that have become dull into razor-sharp hand-machines. At first, opening the package, I was somehow disappointed by the size of it, for some obscure reason expecting something chunkier and bigger just because the photos seemed to have given me that impression. Once out of the box I tried the suction mechanism, which feels solid, on different surfaces, but I soon run out of options as it seems to have problems with anything that is not glass flat. Luckily my induction hob came very handy once again, the tool stuck to it like it had been superglued since forever. Then I moved to attempt my first sharpening move using the small pairing knife. It is true, it takes some pressure to get a blade back into a proper cutting tool, but the metal shavings left behind after each pass, albeit worryingly and evident, clearly were needed to be taken off. Once I managed to get my wrist-driven tempo up to the task, I just couldn’t stop. Eventually all my professional knives were restored to their best. A little bit of honeying afterwards worked very much like a good after-shave, finishing each blade into a neat, ninja-like weapon, craving for slicing and cutting anything that stands on its way. My only reservation would be about the long term effectiveness of the tool but for that, as the say goes, only time will tell. Thank you for reading this review, I hope it helps somehow. I shan’t make another effort to write a review for a long while. It’s too hard. Honestly I don’t know how you can do it every time you buy something online.

Having suffered with blunt knives seemingly forever I decided to try one of these. In short “its brilliant”. The suction pad is the most powerful I have ever had, the actual sharpening is achieved easily, perhaps a bit too easily as if you press too hard you can see the shards of metal being removed so just be aware and DON’T press hard. After the initial sharpening which may require the removal of metal to get the right blade profile all that is needed is light pressure to restore the sharpness. Fantastic bit of kit, I’m sure you won’t be dissapointed if you buy it.

After reading loads of positive reviews I decided to order this knife sharpener and i’ll be honest… I was expecting a bit more as it is described as “Best knife sharpener in the world”.

I can’t say it doesn’t sharp knifes, it does, but they are not getting so sharp as you can imagine from reviews and experience from others.

This is not a negative review, I would definitely get another one after this wears off. I just want to point out the what others could expect next to all amazing impressions from reviews.

    Good but not as expected

Such a simple solution to a complex problem. You just stick it to a flat surface and do a few backward only strokes to give your knife or blade a good cutting edge.

It’s cheap and effective. I won’t bother using anything else now. With this you need no skill atall. The tiny unit is well made and the suction clamp is fantastic.

I’ve used it on my stainless steel kitchen knives and my Swiss Army knife blades. It’s worked great on all.

    Definitely recommend.

Cheap and effective, don’t bother using anything else.

I am not sure if this thing is good for fancy nice knives and what exactly it does with edge, my knives are just a bunch of cheap supermarket ones – and they are finally sharp. And if I realise they are not anymore, it takes a second to resharpen them. I attached the thing vertically to the cupboard wall, it stays well (I think it fall off once in several months) and is very easy to use with one hand. I have a proper sharpening stone, but I never got the skill and it takes so much more time!

My old Sabatier knife set was so blunt that other than chopping carrots was not much use for anything else. Tomatoes and soft fruit were impossible to cut and were crushed under the pressure. Now the knives slice through everything with ease so no longer hunting for a replacement set – sorry Amazon!

Does what it says on the can. Great sharpener for standard blades with minimum loss of steel. If you have very high Carbon Steel blade such as ‘Global’ then this may be too aggressive as we found it tends to ‘chip’ the edges; if this is the case you may be better off with a ‘Global’ ceramic sharpener? It requires minimal pressure to get an edge, indeed putting too much pressure on the edge just tends to shave off steel rather than providing you with a sharp knife. My wife is a professionally trained chef, and this is our 2nd ‘Anysharp’…I summary, a great tool that won’t last forever but will do a good job for a few years before requiring replacement. Hope that helps?

I sharpened everything from my smallest knife to a meat cleaver, then decided to try my old axe and as you can see it put an edge back on the old dog haha 1 thing is if you suction it to a bench it will come loose after a couple swipes, I used it on a glass chopping board and it will stay there in definatley absolute bargai

I’ve had a knife sharpener ever since I used to jump up and down with glee when my Nan took to hers with gusto only rivalled by the speed of her knitting! Sadly, much like the knit one, pearl one, drop 7 and get bored, I never mastered the art so was thrilled to find an old knife bought back to life with this new contraption. I thought about docking a star as it feels a little bit like dragging my nails down a chalk board but that seemed a bit harsh as it’s way more fun. Now I’ll be replacing my knives regularly because I have worn them down instead of them being too blunt to cut through mash!

I read lots of reviews before buying this sharpener and even though more than few people were unhappy about it, I decided to try it on my own.
I think this knife sharpener is great for what I need in my household. I am not a professional chef and I do have more than few knifes that I need to sharpen now and again, so this is more than enough for me. The suction holds it well and I slide a knife around 6-10 each with no issues, but at the same time I do it slow and carefully not crazy fast, so maybe that why it is falling apart for some people. I do have to say that it did become loose a bit after month of using it this is why I took off 1 star.
There are some steel shavings after the sharpening, so I just make sure I clean the knife and the tool properly afterwards – no sure where are they coming from (knife or sharpener) and if they suppose to happen but all in all my knifes are sharp for minimum a month and it is very easy for me to sharpen them again when need be.

    Good knife sharpne

Amazing sharpener. Sticks like a limpet to any smooth surface. You just need to draw the blade gently across the sharpener. Dint press hard otherwise you’ll take too much metal of your blade. I’ve seen some poor reviews on this and all I can say is anybody who cannot sharpen a knife on this gadget must be doing it wrong. Everyone in my family now owns one of these. So easy to use and the knives are so sharp afterwards. As my mum would say you only have to look at them and they’ll cut you

I decided to try this but wasn’t holding out much hope as I’d previously tried with a wet stone and that didn’t seem to work (couldn’t get on with it). This was a last ditch effort before sending them to a knife sharpening service. My knives are global Japanese steel chefs knives so wasn’t holding out much hope in this sharpening them! Cannot even describe the difference since they have been sharpened, they glide through everything! Definitely recommend 110%. So easy to use and done in mere seconds!

The suction is very strong, holding it in place very well.

It’s a very easy to use product (having never owned a sharpener before). The suction really helps for clumsy people like me to focus on handling the blade.

I saw this product again after searching for a scissor sharpner and thought it would be a good idea to review this product after years of use. It’s a Fabulous product! I’ve had mine since 2011 and it’s still going. The suction is brilliant I’ve mine attached to a tiled wall for 3 years a and it sharpens knives superbly, I have so many scars to prove it. From experience I would definitely recommend restraint when using the product especially if your not used to very very sharp knives., And to warn other household members when the knives have been sharpened.

I bought this as I had a pack of those colourful knives when I went of to Uni almost 6 years ago now.. They have been used and thrown about between moves and not once sharpened.

So I buy this, on the counter, suction on and i get to sharpening my knives.

After a couple of run throughs my knives were sharp and cutting onions with ease. I now have super sharp knives and something to top them up every so often. All without losing any cupboard or kitchen space

Fab little tool for a kitchen. Will recommend to friends.

Well, a knife sharpener that actually works! It’s a revelation and not overly expensive. Sticks to the worktop well, it feels a bit odd not having to hold it as you use it but the principle works well. I’d think it could get a bit messy if the suction gives up whilst using it bit it hasn’t happened to me yet but I’ve docked one star because of that – it’s probably me being over cautious but dragging a newly sharpened blade across a worktop doesn’t sound very attractive.

Used this on a set of procook x50 knives I got around 3 years ago as they were getting a bit blunt. Have to say I’m very impressed, knifes are razor sharp now and I mean razor.

I have been dropping silk scarves on them all day like Whitney Houston in the bodyguard and well, the wife is a tad upset let’s just say. Not because of the scarves so much, but rather the 3400 I just spent on an antique samurai sword as I can’t stop sharpening things.

Oh I just remembered I have an axe in the garage. I literally have an axe to grind, just buy this if you have knives that can be sharpened at a 20 angle (double sided).

Always check with the manufacturer – and remember, a blunt knife is a dangerous knife.

Absolutely BRILLIANT! I sharpened all my Buther Block Knives, including Serrated-bladed ones, in Minutes!! It is definitely, 100% worth every Penny. It made my Knives Razor sharp. I couldn’t believe the results, in literally 6-10 runs across the V-shaped sharpening groove. The best part is, that if it isn’t sharp enough in the initial 6-10 swipes, simply continue until it IS sharpened to your liking. You can see the Metal shavings that come off your Knives as the imperfections are filed away. The suction-cup really secures the Sharpener to my counter-top effortlessly, but so securely that one-handed sharpening is effortless. If you’re looking for a fantastic Sharpener, FET THIS ONE!!

Truly worth the money. I’ve tried all sorts over many decades and this little device does the job amazingly well. So good is it that you can hear the improved quality actually occurring as you glide a blade over this sharpener. it is doubly good for my needs because I have four of those handy little ‘Victorinox’ paring knives – with the serrated blades – that I use constantly in the kitchen. I thought nothing could re-sharpen those to their former glory but this device actually does return them to their just-bought razor sharpness. The suction power of the base is excellent and I use it attached to a large, polished, granite chopping board. I have no complaints whatsoever and this thing is the first sharpener I’ve ever had where I really do notice the sort of improvement to the blades that I desire.

I definitely hit the jackpot with this little gem, cant fault it at all. All you have to remember is not to put any pressure on the knife when using it, just simply draw it through about three or four times with minimal pressure and the results are amazing.
As long as you follow the guidelines with this, you will have knives as sharp as razors. Absolutely Brilliant.

I am blown away. For years I have been using a sharpening wand and was getting increasingly frustrated with how it didn’t seem to sharpen my knives an awful lot. This is exactly what I needed and when used in combination with the sharpening rod, it creates the chopping experience I’ve always wanted.

I have gotten into the routine now of using the AnySharp Knife Sharpener every month or so to give my knives a deep sharpen, while using a rod once a week or so for quick preparations and I’ve found this gives the best results.

I had a draw full of blunt knives and kept trying differnt sharpeners with no real success. The reviews on this sharpener looked good, so I bought one. I had to ensure the suction pad was secure on the counter, then I could get a decent pull action on the knife. The tougher the steel on the knves, the longer it takes to sharpen (good to tell which are decent blades). My wife was delighted to have so many sharp knives at her disposal. I even dicovered that this works well on the stanley knife blades – a couple of pull through (when you can feel the edge biting in) restores the sharp edge. It does leave iron filings behind, which need to be cleaned away if you want the suction to hold on the counter.

This really is pretty good value for money. It does put an impressive edge on most of the blade of kitchen knives. I found it hard to sharpen the very ends of knife blades, and on small knives impossible to sharpen the last few millimetres by the handle – a minor drawback. I also found it difficult to draw the knife smoothly through the sharpener.
Over the years I’ve sharpened my kitchen knives from time to time using a variety of other sharpening methods. They are now sharper than I’ve managed to get them before, which is pretty impressive.

I don’t normally write reviews but I had to for this. I had a knife that was blunt…I mean literally blunt – the knife side had no edge whatsoever and it was incredibly dangerous to use. I’ve tried various knife-sharpeners before but never felt like they made much difference. However I saw this item and read some of the reviews and decided, since it was only just over a tenner to give it a try.

All I can say is ‘OH MY GOD!’. It has literally brought my completely dull knife back to life and it’s now fully sharp and like-new again. It was really easy to use and the suction mechanism is great. My knife was so dull it probably took 20-30 drags across the sharpener (and a few smaller specific drags around the tip of the knife) but my knife is back to doing what it’s supposed to – cutting things easily (and now safely).

I also bought a whetstone at the same time but struggled to use it effectively…plus it was taking ages to see any results, whereas this item is honestly the equivalent (and actually better) than a whetstone.

5 stars all the way…although there’s a rating for ‘easy to hold’ which baffles me as you’re not supposed to hold this item, but I gave it 5 stars as it’s a small but very useful device.

I have had great results with this sharpener. My knives were worse than I expected, as I have had to run them through dozens of times, but the end result is great. I have a set of professional knives that are about 15 years old and are now nearly as sharp as they were when they were new. Even my serrated bread knife can be sharpened. Delivery was extremely late, well over a week late. I assumed it was a lost cause, but I had gotten a refund so was going to write it off as bad luck due to covid.

When this first arrived I tried sharpening my knife which was dull despite trying to sharpen with a electric knife sharpener, another pull through sharpener and a chefs steel. This knife is a good expensive German knife. I was not initially impressed despite seeing steel shavings after use. The next day I tried again and bingo, the knife was sharp, so sharp I cut my finger deeply when being careless when washing it, despite the blood I am very happy! My favourite knife is as good as new, note time to sharpen the rest of my knifes.

The knives for the restaurant are so sharp now, it is hands down the best purchase ever for such an incredible cost!!!

This is so small it fits in the palm of your hand – except for the excess plastic packaging!!!
So … you unwrap it, expecting great things but what you see disappoints
You look at it and think well that just won’t satisfy what’s in my drawers

After laughing at it size, I stuck it to the fridge and slowly swiped the blade through
    Wowsers
4 more times I swiped the blade through

It might be small but it is mighty

Buy it it is one of the best items I’ve bought on amazon for a long time

I read a lot of mixed review online about this knife sharpener, but I thought I’d give it a go. My knives were super blunt and given that I live with a chef, I thought I best sort it out (he won’t let me use his ‘special’ diamond knife sharpener haha!). Suction on the product is great, simply to use and sharpens the knives really well. I think people underestimate how good the sharpener is and possibly over do it? A couple of smooth strokes should do it, either side. Highly recommended.

I am by no means a knife expert. I bought this sharpener as it seemed like a much simpler solution to using a load of whetstones and such.

When stuck to our worktop, it’s pretty much immovable. After a few swipes of our knives, the ‘rub your thumb over the blade’ test was performed. I can confirm that they have gone from “yeah they feel a bit blunt” to “yeah they’re pretty sharp now”.

Not scientific by any means, but it works for us.

Build quality appears fine for the price and it should last.

Absolutely love this little beauty! Well worth the money. I have a variety of different knives and a traditional knife steel but I think over the years that’s ecome blunted and I don’t quite get the same edge I used to.

With this you actually see the metal it’s scraping off the blade to sharpen it and get a great edge that easily slices through even the softest tomatoes.

My only criticism is the suction. Maybe it’s the cheap worktops the council use for their kitchens but I found it had difficulty sticking to mine, perhaps it maybe that it gets a lot of use and there may be trace elements of oil left but I tried it on a few sections and it still struggled. On the other hand, while at my mums where I had it ddljvsred I tried it there and it gripped extremely well so it’s hit and miss

Was recommended by a friend and must say all in all doesn’t disappoint

You start by using the built in sucker to stick it temporally to the work surface, which must be clean as you do put a bit of pressure on it when using and it can slip it the worktop is greasy for example
Once stuck you run the knife through the steels in the direction of the arrows 4-5 times job done. You can actually feel when it’s sharp when running the knife through as it starts to drag. Had this for about three years and still working great. Much better for amateurs like me to use as I never really managed to sharpen anywhere as near with a standard sharpen steel

This is the best non-electric domestic knife sharpener ever; I bought the teal blue one.
Just place it on the worktop with the label facing away from you. Pull the handle at the top down that causes the sharpener suction pad to firmly stick to the table. Then effortlessly run the knife along the sharpener a few times. Wash the knife then test it out. My blunt knives were razor sharp in seconds. Clean the sharpener before you put it away. My knives now cut through vegetables as if they were brand new. Really pleased with this purchase and its colour.

Definitely brought some life back into my old knives.

    Easy enough to use:
    1. place suction cup on surface
    2. clamp down with lever
    3. place bottom end of knife (closest to handle) on sharpener
    4. pull / draw-in towards yourself

My old dull knives are now as good as new after repeating the above process for all of them.
Instructions are included in the box but just for clarity, it seems the number of pulls should be between 6-12 depending on how dull your blades are.

One side note: although I have rated this 5 stars as I truly think it’s a great piece of kit, It did end up damaging one of my knives. I have a Kitchen Devils Small Cook’s knife.

I believe there is a mention in the instructions on not using the sharpener for thin blades.. this is true – the Kitchen Devils knife is quite badly chipped along the blade edge but this may also be due to general wear and tear of the blade and the sharpener simply aggravating these small chips.

No such problems when using thicker more sturdy / newer knives. Since the knife I’m talking about was pretty old, I’m not removing a star from the rating as I think it’s a great little tool!

Great little kitchen addition! A good buy if you have dull knives (Who doesn't?..).

Well,vi only bought this as it was cheap so I figured it was worth a shot yet after only a few minutes my kitchen knifescare significantly sharper after being blunt as hell for the longest time. It attached to my kitchen counter with no loss of suction, I then subsequently moved it to my tiled kitchen wall, and after using 10 strokes on each knife, testing, then repeating, it brought a nice blade back to each knife. You can physically see it shaving down the existing rough blade and leaving steel filings begind and each stroke through becomes smoother until you’re left with a nice smooth blade. Cheap and very cheerful and does exactly what you want it to

So I, like many others, have found my knives dulled over time and seen the mixed bag of reviews on Amazon about this product. I was sceptical, but decided to take the plunge.

First off, this product is quite small, and plastic (apart from the sharpening blades)… so it left me a bit quizzical and slightly nervous…

The device comes with instructions which is incredibly handy! It helps with how to set it up and use it properly! Even stating to glide the whole blade with slight downward pressure.

Although this device appears light and maybe a little too plastic, once that suction cup is levered on to a flat work surface, blimey! It will not move! It is very safely stuck on extremely well! So it goes from feeling nervous to feeling safe and confident in using it!

After sharpening my knives, I did the paper cutting test. They are certainly back to their original sharpness! Wow this device is brilliant! I will continue to use this maybe once a month and use a steel between sharpening to help. Definitely recommend this product!

  57. Hugh Wright says:

I gave this 5 stars for the design and invention generally, as it is a really good product, and saves having to learn how to sharpen a dull blade by other means. It is a lot smaller than I expected but that was better as it tucks away in the cutlery drawer. The base sucker doesn’t stay in place for long as the material is a bit too dense, so needs a slight wipe with a damp cloth first, and if you work on the knife straight away it’s fine. If you can get it stuck down well enough there should be no need to hold it steady with your other hand and is safer not to. The sharpener itself works well (so be careful). A simple but well considered, ingenious tool that gets the job done.

This is a review of the AnySharp Knife Sharpener with PowerGrip by AnySharp.

The AnySharp Knife Sharpener takes the danger out of blade sharpening and does so in a way that’s quick, easy and very, very cheap.

This is undeniably a quality product that delivers on what they advertised. I was shopping for a solution that works well and takes minimal space.

The AnySharp Knife Sharpener arrived in a small package, (a tiny addition to your kitchen drawer: a 60 x 60mm puck with a handle) At the bottom on theAnySharp Knife Sharpener is a suction pad, designed to keep it in place.

Knifes Sharpened with 10 full pulls as instruction indicated.

Had my doubts about its claims.
When it arrived and I saw the size of the thing, those doubts grew.
Took it out of that horrible plastic protective wrapping and in no time it was stuck to my worktop and I was poised with my first knife.
SUCH an easy device to use. Perfect sharp knives every time!
I even, sceptically, used it on my bread knife – guess what! No more holding the Bloomer-knob with fear!!! It even sharpened that knife too – as per its claims.
Well worth the money. Small enough to fit in your cutlery/utensil drawer. Nice knowing you have one and can have sharp knives all the time.

Love this tiny sharpening device. Went all through my knife drawer quite quickly. Some older, blunted knives needed a few draws through the sharpener but it can be felt when sharpener is starting to gently bite and sharpen the blades. Best not to apply a lot of pressure, just a steady positive movement through. Keep passing through till biting all along blade can be felt. Recommend knives are washer after sharpening as shards of dwarf can remain on the blade. Would buy again and thoroughly recommend.

Maybe it is a little overhyped as being the best one ever, but it certainly has worked on my knives and made them sharper. Found it takes more than “one or two” strokes as it says in the info video, but still is pretty fast.
Suction is good but I have found it to ‘unstick’ sometimes, so worth holding it in a way that this won’t cause any danger with the knife you are sharpening.
Overall, I’d recommend it for the price – cheaper than buying a new set of knifes.

Tiny little sharpener that will sharp your knives very well but of course not as sharp as you would do with a sharpening stone, but still good enough. On an appropriate surface it will suck very well and keep steady. Very easy to sharpen just by sliding the knife between the scissor like blades towards you. For extra sharp reember not to apply any extra force on the knife while sharpening. Gently sliding will give you an extra sharp result.
    Good overall product
    Hope this helps

After running my knives through the sharpener they’ve all gotten a new lease of life.
I don’t have great knives but I was tired of not being able to cut thin slices of vegetables / fruit (e.g. tomatoes). The force I was exerting was more squashing the fruit down so I’d have to cut thick slices. After running the knives through this I can much thinner slices as they’re actually cutting properly now.

For the cost, it’s a no brainer.

The suction cup is not much use though on mine. It makes no difference to my. I can use it without losing a finger. It just means I have to pay proper attention.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is my fourth AnySharp knife sharpener. I broke the first one. My wife lost the replacement, the third was a gift for my elderly parents and now finally this one is to replace the lost one. It’s a product I like because it’s easy to use and it really works.

Please don’t be tempted to buy one of these to sharpen your treasured set of expensive Japanese steel chefs knives, you will ruin them. High quality knives require sharpening at an angle between 10 and 15 degrees to get that razor sharp edge. The AnySharp is set at an unadjustable 20 degrees and will never get them to their optimum sharpness. For these knives, either have them professionally sharpened or learn to use a whetstone.

Cheaper knives are typically sharpened at 17 – 20 degrees and these should be ok for the AnySharp. Be warned though, you’ll be amazed at how quickly these remove metal from knife blades – overuse will definitely result in premature blade wear.

This is without doubt the best knife sharpener on the market.
I’ve sharpened 5 knifes which were quiet blunt but are now like surgical instruments.
Did I spend all day dragging the blade ? No !!!! 4 strikes literally 4 !!
You could see the shavings falling on the worksurface with each strike.
Honestly if you don’t have one you are not sharpening your knifes properly, there’s probably a problem of over sharpening and dulling a blade so my top tip, 4 strikes and test it. Obviously not on your self or others but a bit of paper and do the sharp test.

These knives were Sharp! Through the years there have been other methods. I’ve used a steel for a long time now, but now I’m 74 yrs old and suffer with osteoarthritis (etc.etc.) Time to look for an easy to use sharpener which actually does the job! Research brought me to the Any Sharp. I’m So Glad that I bought this. My knives are Sharp. So easy to use. I tested with a knife which hadn’t been used since the 50s. This is now like a razer blade.

Creates a real sharp blade on your knife.

I can’t trust the suction cup on the bottom though, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, which means you kind of have to hold the base while you drag a knife over the top, it’s a bit risky, but if you know how to handle cutting tools, this won’t be a problem.

Only other downside is the the sharpening blades are set back from the edge of the tool, meaning you can’t sharpen your blade right down to the handle.
On a MoraKniv there’ll be a three quarter of an inch gap between the handle and the first sharpened bit of your blade.
Still much much easier than a wet stone, especially for a beginner.

Other than this small issue, it’s a perfect sharp every time, and quick and easy to do!

Don’t like giving 5 star reviews, but this is a special product, it’s very effective. We had knives that would squash tomatoes rather that slice them, but now those knives are like new. The closest thing we’ve had to a problem with this is its fallen off the wall, twice maybe three times in the ~year that we’ve had it, and that can be solved by just not having it in the wall (though ours is on the wall and its fine really). I bought another for my great nan and she is also happy with it, it’s just great, if you have blunt knives you can’t go wrong (unless the knife is serrated).

quick version: small, inexpensive, fantastically easy and quick to use, and totally effective!

I’m in my 6th decade and I’ve had lots of knife sharpeners, some very expensive, some, like this one, very reasonably priced. Some big and bulky and very few small and easy to put in a drawer… this one is the latter.
And yet this is the first one ever that that I’ve found that works every time, does the job well and quickly. So, finally, all of my knives are sharp, sharp, sharp!
What’s more it’s tiny and sticks like glue to any clean smooth flat surface (esp stainless steel and a glass hob top). There is no holding, just clamp it down in one simple movement whilst holding it on a clean flat surface, pull knife through about 3-4 times, clean up filings, unlock, pull on little suction tab and it’s off in a jiffy and back in the drawer.

How did I find it? I went on an all day fish prep and cooking course at London’s legendary Billingsgate Fish Market Cooking School. You need very sharp knives to prepare fish properly. And this is what they used and what I bought at the end of the day. I don’t think it works on Global brand knives (what does? The expensive German double ceramic wheel dedicated sharpener I bought for it years ago, and which take 15 double strokes in all, doesn’t make it as sharp as my other knives, so now it stays in the rack).

So, in conclusion, small, inexpensive, fantastically easy and quick to use, and totally effective!

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersI have had this previously and got a new one, went for the cheaper blue colour (because why pay more just for colour). This little item is very easy to use. Please keep in mind that the level of sharpness will depend on the quality of the knife being sharpened. I have a bunch of cheap knifes and they come up all uneven, because the metal is very soft and cheap. However my better knifes sharpen to like new with just a few swipes. Once you finish using the item, lift the lever and use the little sticking out tongue on the side to get air under the suction circle as pulling might brake the item.

When the zombie invasion comes and you need a shed load of razor sharp cutlery fast, you don’t want to be wasting time sawing away on a sharpening steel like the burly butcher in his shop window. This knife sharpener is quick and convenient and will have you tooled up in moments.

To be honest, I was a little surprised with how small it was. I had in my mind’s eye that it would be a bulky affair, but it’s really quite compact. You attach it to a smooth surface such as your kitchen work top, and then simply drag you knife through it a couple of times. An entire knife block of expensive steel was sharpened up in under 30 seconds, and in a safer way than my traditional sharpening steel. The suction is only as good as the effectiveness of the seal, so make sure the surface is clean and the sucker is secure before starting to sharpen your knives.

I have used this for a few months. Our knifes were not in a good state and having used this sharpener, can confirm it works, but not as well as suggested in the promo video. It has taken a lot of time to get a sharp edge back onto the knifes.

My wife as tended not to use this as regularly as needed as, without it being out permenantly, the habit of using it has not taken hold. She doesn’t like to use it too much as she is aware of the metal filings/dust that it creates (as does every other knife sharpener)! So, I end up doing the sharpening as and when.

I have noticed that the suction cup can loose its suction occasionally. This has not become a regular thing, so I have put it down to contamination (dust?) on the worktop on the times it has failed to grip.

In summary, it is easier to use then a standard steel, as it has a set angle to sharpen both sides of the blade, but still requires a lot of time / effort to get blunt knifes back to working sharpeness.

  75. Anonymous says:

Overall the knife sharper is easy to use. You push the leaver down and it suction seals itself to the countertop. It is just as easily removed by lifting the leaver up.

It is very easy to sharpen any knife by pulling the knife in a straight line in the direction of the shown on top of the sharper. On a couple occasions the sharper has lost suction and moved whilst being used, this may be dangerous when using a large knife. The sharper is very small and light and is easy to store in a draw when not in use.

I would recommend for the price and ease of use.

Very easy to use, be cautious as it does loose suction.

I was very sceptical about this item as I simply thought that it would not be any good at that price. However, as it cost a fraction of the cost to replace the blades on my current wet sharpener I thought I would give it a try. Without exaggeration it is quite simply brilliant ! I have a set of fairly expensive well known Japanese kitchen knives that were very blunt and within 5 minutes the whole set was razor sharp. I also sharpened a clever, a couple of pen knives and a rubbishy old blunt knife we keep in the drawer for any old job back to real precision sharpness in minutes. I am not easily impressed by many things these days, but this is a must have and real value for money. Don’t waste you money or time on other fancy sharpening tools. Get one of these in your kitchen drawer and you will not lol back !!

I’ve got a set of global knives that have been gradually losing their edge. A 30 ceramic sharpener advertised as suitable for global hasn’t been working at all. I bought this unit for 8 thinking what do I have to lose? (Well… 8) and I’m seriously impressed. The instructions weren’t that clear but once I worked out that you only draw the knife towards you not back and forth the effect is remarkable. FIVE strokes and a blunt global is like a scalpel. You can see metal filings come off the blade (and global steel is some of the hardest in the world). The suction cap works really well on worktop but not on damp surfaces or a glass chop board.

It’s tiny too. Tomato or egg sized. Some 1* reviews complain it’s small. So what? Who wants a brick sized one that does the same job. It may not last forever but at 8 I’ll just get another one…

The AnySharp knife sharpener is actually smaller and lighter than i expected but feels well made. I got the blue one. Its a good thing because doesn’t take much space in drawer or cupboard.
There is no handle to hold. It has a thick sucker on the bottom. You just pull down the lever to lock it to the surface. This works excellently so long as you have a SMOOTH work surface. On a granite worktop it locked rock solid and can sharpen your knife without even touching the sharpener. It also gripped to a melamine surface well though loosened after a while. Takes little time to sharpen up a knife though.
The actual sharpener works well. It removes quite a lot of material but that doesn’t really bother me so long as I get a nice sharp blade. Tried the tomato test. My knife wouldn’t even cut into the tomato, just denting the surface of the skin! It took around 10 swipes on the sharpener until i was happy with the sharpness, which in reality was less than a minute and the results were really good. cut through the tomato very easily!
Advice… Make sure you apply little pressure when sharpening. I watched youtube videos and many people were pressing way too hard which just damages the blade. Just be light and gentle and will get a better finish.
So far so good, 5 stars for now. Im hoping the sharpening blades last a long time. I will update my review depending on that.

I have a kitchen draw full of various knife sharpeners that I have acquired over the decades.
Two steels, another oval shaped one encrusted with powdered diamonds, a useless white thing from IKEA, a large sharpening stone and rusty metal thing with rings you draw through.
So when I saw the video I thought “Ideal Home Exhibition” things you bought that never worked when you got home.
But I gave it a try, and yes it actually works, it does take a sliver off the edge, but afterwards it can cut ripe tomatoes easily, after drawing your knife just a couple of time , GENTLY, through it, whilst it is suctioned onto your kitchen worktop.
It is also very small and neat.
I have mainly Sabatier knives, so not sure how it would perform with expensive Japanese kitchen knives.
I was so impressed; I bought another one for a friend.

A sanction pad (that actually works) secures the knife shape ten to the side board. This is then secure and unmovable until you release the suction.
You then get your knife and with a light touch pull it back through the sharpen. Do this 3 or 4 times and hey presto…one very sharper knife!
I guarantee when you have done this you will go through the kitchen draws and sharpen every single knife you have!!!! It’s that good.

This little thing is a worthwhile buy!

It arrived in a plastic blister pack which was fine, i just needed a sharp enough knife to open it…

It is very straight forward to use per the directions on the packaging and the item itself. It had me sharpening every knife in the block and drawer, visibly removing material from the dull edges and putting a really nice finish on them ( even my serrated bread knife).

I put it to the test and even managed to put a razor edge on a teaspoon…i have no explanation for trying this.

Long story short, a sharp kitchen knife is a safe kitchen knife and this thing is really worth the money.

In sharpening knives, it seems to do an excellent job and I’m happy with the results.
My issue is with mounting it on a surface with the suction cup. I mount mine on our ceramic cooker top, so it’s perfectly smooth and ideal for this. To lock it into position, you use the semi-circular plastic lever on the top. I don’t know whether I have a duff unit but this lever is incredibly difficult to push down into position. I realise it has to be strong to prevent it slipping, but on ours, it’s almost impossible. The same when trying to release it. I’m hoping it will loosen up with useage.
If they are all the same (I find it hard to imagine they would be…?) and you have any problems with your hands/upper body strength, you will likely find this sharpener impossible to use safely.

I mistakenly bought a copycat brand of these sharpeners and couldn’t understand why they didn’t work like the one I saw demonstrated at a food show. I since realised that Anysharp was the brand that I wanted but was still a little sceptical that these would be any better than the imitation ones. They have totally changed my kitchen life. All my knives are now properly sharp and stay sharp. I now see the limitations of using knives that are not sharp enough it is so much easier to do tasks such as filleting fish when your knife is sharp. If you want to chop and fillet like a pro, get a decent knife and one of these sharpeners.

After reading so many good reviews I decided to get one of these. Wish I hadn’t bothered. I can’t get this to stick to anything in my kitchen, I’ve tried the worktop, a melamine tray, even a dinner plate which is perfectly smooth but it keeps popping off. If you have to hold this in place with your hand while dragging a sharp knife through it,the potential for injury is huge. I’m putting this down to experience and looking for something safer.

Update: Using the link given In the comments here, I contacted the manufacturer who has now provided me with a new sharpener. The new one sticks brilliantly and sharpens my knives brilliantly too.

But… it not only sharpened every knife we put through it to a ‘good as new’ standard, but it sharpened poultry shears, kitchen scissors and even a worn out pair of tweezers we put through to test its ‘Any Sharp’ name!

It is compact, suprisingly sturdy, easy to clean and i noticed replacement blades are available should they be needed. There’s a 2 year guarantee too!

Golden Review Award: 387 From Our UsersThis is an extremely efficient knife sharpener. Four or five swipes for a dull knife led to it getting wayyyy sharper than I expected; and then it almost took my thumb off. With great power …

    Definitely sharpens a knife!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFirst of all I am a whetstone sharpener, trained by my father who was an agricultural engineer (or as my mum calls it – a glorified farmer) and have actually MADE his own knives. I do all my knives regularly and they rarely need more than 15 minutes each every 6 months or so. However, I have a collection of friends who come round to mine, use my knives, and then decide to ask me to sharpen theirs. So I get these knives thrown (figuratively) at me… knives which are as blunt as a shovel, knives which haven’t seen a sharpening steel much less a whetstone since the day they were manufactured, knives which will take me 2 hours to even get any sort of edge onto, and after round umpteenth of that – I decided I need something faster and easier than the endless stroking on the whetstone on knives which I will never use.

I looked around on amazon with a budget of ~10. Discounted anything electric, anything too flimsy looking – I wanted something industrial y’know? And et voila, I ended up with one of these.

I don’t know if it’s the world’s best, I mean.. I haven’t tried all the others. But for my purposes – which is to grind off enough steel to cut my whetting time from 2 hours down to 15 minutes – IT WORKS. I still finish the knives off on my whetstone, and I will NOT put my own expensive knives through this, nor will I ever need to. But I bought it for a specific purpose and for that purpose, it works.

Read of this review what you will – I did read many reviews before choosing this one. It DOES take lots of steel off, which is only good if your knives are cheap and terribly blunt and you aren’t precious about it and it wasn’t an expensive purchase. I still find it necessary to finish off with the fine side of a good ol’ carborundum whetstone. But for the purposes of getting a good edge FAST onto a blunt knife, it is excelle

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersYou got blunt knives? Not after buying this you don’t!

Slam it on your kitchen surface, whap your knife through it and BAM: sharp knife.

This is the device that literally put knife sharpening vans out of business overnight. Every kitchen, commercial or domestic, should have one of these bad boys.

I literally cannot exaggerate how easy this is and the sharpness you get is really great. Ok it’s not going to bring them back to a factory finish, you get a slightly bumpy, slightly ragged blade, but it’s sharp as all hell and it takes about 10 seconds vs. other methods that take forever.

Golden Review Award: 98 From Our UsersHow this genius little gadget is not all over TV and in every home is an absolute mystery.

This small and compact knife sharpener has worked wonders on my kitchen knives and I don’t think I will use another sharpener again.

Previously, I have used a traditional ‘steel’ sharpener (stick type), an electrical knife sharpener and even have a honing stone (which feels necessary if you want a really sharp finish with the steel.

This thing fits in a drawer in the corner of my drawer organiser – you simply put it on a work surface, flick the clamp to activate the suction mechanism (which holds amazingly well to the surface) and simply draw the knife back through the two prongs holding it straight. Do it a few times and that’s it! Give the knife a clean, wipe any dust of the sharpener and put it back in the drawer.

The sharpness achieved is really good. It’s not quite as sharp as using a steel and honing stone but that takes 10/20 mins to get a really good finish… this is seconds.

When I say it’s not as good as a steel and honing stone, it is still very sharp – I can hold up a piece of a4 paper by one corner and glide the knife through the middle of it.

I’m not sure what extra benefit you get from the AnySharp Pro (other than it is metal) but either way, I would highly recommend this sharpener – it’s probably the best kitchen gadget I own.

Golden Review Award: 47 From Our UsersI have two, one that I got before they chose the name and when they were at the Great Yorkshire Show many years ago (it’s just called “sharpener with suction pad” lol) which I use for garage / contaminated knives and another I use for the kitchen. I’ve one knife they won’t touch but that’s because it’s too damned thick. Everything else these things are just amazing for. If you press hard you’ll take off a scary amount of steel and you really do not need to do this – light strokes and you’ll end up with utterly rediculously sharp blades. If you’re like me and get frustrated with cheap knives that lose their edge quickly, it’s great to keep on the side, takes two quick strokes to sharpen (I’d always rinse the blade afterwards as it will leave tiny bits of steel on there) and the knife is razor sharp again in under 20 seconds. Yes, I own stones and I’m sure if I could actually get myself some skill I’d get better results with these but for the time invested for the results, this thing will do me. One note of caution – the suction really isn’t that great so I’d always support the base in use, if you’re using only light pressure there shouldn’t be any chance of slipping. Loss of suction and it coming away mid use presents a greater risk in my book as it can lead to the thing tipping over and the knife going in a random direction. Remember, a blunt knife is a dangerous knife so keep them sharp and keep in control.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a very effective tool. It’s quite small and fits nicely into one of my shallow kitchen drawers. I tested all my kitchen knives on grapes! All bar one would not cut the grapes using gentle pressure. I sharpened each one (I have a variety of knives from different manufacturers ) using the method described in the handy leaflet which came in the packaging. Wow! I am pleasantly surprised with the effects. Each knife cut through grapes with very light pressure. Each knife required very little sharpening ..between 1 and 3 ‘pulls ‘ through the sharpener. I wish I had seen this product years ago!

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy mate had one of these so I knew it was good, sure enough it’s the 4th knife sharpener I’ve had but the best one for cheap knives. Shame they are 3 cheaper in Asda though…
They do work great but only on soft steel, they will not properly sharpen decent knives such as Sabatier. Regular use with a Sabatier knife will leaving you needing a combination wetstone.
I used the Anysharp and a steel for some time but as the steel wore the Anysharp could no longer do the job and eventually I got a blunt knife.
I ended up buying one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XPMBJTF/ref=psdc_3187145031_t2_B010O4OCCS albeit a Sabatier own brand model, which is much much better as you can reshape the blade, sharpen and then rehone it ready for a steel.
If you have cheap knives the Anysharp may well suffice but if you have a quality knife with hard steel it simply won’t be any good.

Golden Review Award: 46 From Our UsersI have a knife set with a knife sharpener where you stroke the knives against it to sharpen them, but no matter how many times I struck them against it the knives were never quite sharp enough and my scissors were completely blunt. This device has made them sharper than they ever were and since it grips to the table you don’t have to risk holding it down and accidentally slicing your fingers off. I had a meat cleaver also from Betterware many years ago that was completely blunt since the day I bought it and was only really useful for tenderising meat. Now I can finally cleave meat on the bone.

Golden Review Award: 184 From Our UsersSometimes marketing departments come close to telling the truth, and for once the hype printed on the side “The worlds best knife sharpener” is not far from reality. This little gadget does actually work really well, and is very easy to use.

I bought this to replace my aging rotary hand sharpener that had seen better days. The steels on the inside were beginning to rust, and the results were not that impressive. As a passionate amateur chef, a decent sharp knife is essential, I realised my aging chefs was past it’s best as well and debated buying a new one. I’m glad I didn’t, as the AnySharp brought it back to life, despite the multiple nicks and imperfections on the blade.

As others have mentioned, this will take quite a lot of metal off the blade, but the results were impressive. Slicing through onions was a breeze, and I could cut transparent slivers of onion without effort. I tested the sharpness of the blade against a sheet of A4 paper, and while nowhere as lethal as some of the Japanese knives costing a small fortune, it cut through the paper with relative ease.

I’m not sure if this will last 20 years like my other sharpener, or if it will damage the surface of the knife over the long term. Hence the 4 stars. Not having whetstone skills, I don’t know how much material a stone would take off in comparison. If you are looking for something that will sharpen a knife blade with ease and bring it back to life, it is well worth the money.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI totally love this knife sharpener. It works great for me and the suction system works great!
My knifes are really sharp now and it doesn’t require major strength to do it. Steps easy to follow and I do recommend this product!

So there are loads of knife sharpeners about even stones and diamond edge and i just cant seem to get the angle right and ive recently bought a different style but electric of here as that claimed to be amazing fantastic etc etc etc however this was not the case when i tried it.

Anyway moving on after seeing this advertised on a socail media site i decided to give it a go and for the money they are asking you cant go wrong.
it is quite small a few reviews said it was but until it arrives its hard to put it into persepctive but small doesnt mean rubbish this thing is the business it does what it says on the advert and more
its easy to mount and once you do a few strokes you get to realise the presssure needed, we done a full knife rack in around a hour and let me tell you some were bad real bad to the point of not worth even having there
but i have to say the cheaper knives you get from local cheaper shops sharpen up a lot easier than the more expensive 1’s but they dnt stay as sharp for as long, you will have to spend 3 may be 4 times as long a a quality knife but mine haventbeen dne for years also there have been a few comments on leaving filings well to me its obvious if your going to make a new edge its got to leave a few fillings behind.
this also does serated knives just take your time when doing it or i dnt think it will do the guides any good
all in all for around a tenner you have a knife sharpener to hand 24/7 i think this is one of the best buys ive had for such a long time dnt mess about just buy 1

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI bought one of these a couple of years ago in the vain hope that somewhere, there would be a gadget ‘out there’ which would do a decent job of sharpening my knives. Most of them had been rubbish. Either that, or I’m unable to use knife sharpeners properly.
    Then this little beauty.
The suction base sticks like “s… to a shovel” – and it literally takes only three or four passes with the knife through the central “V” guide and goodness me it puts a keen edge on!
I’ve got a couple of german shepherd dogs who eat their meat raw, and it’s generally quite tough meat such as beef cheek, neck trim, green tripe, etc, and its horrible to cut up without a decent sharp knife.
This little gadget sharpens like it means business, and the ‘chore’ is now quite a pleasure – no more pulling and tearing, just keenly sliced meats.
If you only ever get one knife sharpener, make it this one.
Bear in mind you only need to pass the knife lightly through the sharpening blades and that will sharpen them beautifully.
And this gadget will sharpen all sorts of knives from veg knives right up to the huge cooks knives. I’ve even sharpened my big old meat cleaver with it too. Amazing.

I bought this for home use, it arrived 10 minutes ago and already i`m very pleased with the product. Tested it on a 3″ blade i`d given up on trying to sharpen with a steel a long time ago.

As always before trying a product I read through some of the comments taking in both good and bad.

Obviously you need a smooth, clean surface for the suction cup to work well but I would also recommend wetting the surface with a small puddle of water to aid with that process.

I recently bought a chopping mat with a smooth surface so I decided to use that so that if the knife were to slip at any point I wouldn`t damage my work top. Place a damp cloth underneath the chopping mat also to stop it from moving or slipping. You want to keep your fingers well away when pulling the knife through.

I should also mention that it is a lot smaller than I thought it would be which had me worried that i`d maybe just bought a small piece of junk but this was before using it of course. Now I find its petite size quite charming.

So when Sharpening your knives I would recommend taking your time just to get the pressure right when pulling the knife through and if you take your time you can make sure you sharpen right to the tip of the blade.

Clean away thoroughly any metal shavings with a dry and then a damp cloth. The same goes for the blade. I use an old dishcloth but DO NOT hold the dishcloth in your hand and wipe the newly sharpened blade. Fold it a few times and place it on your work surface then wipe the sharpened edge on both sides.

I`ve not tried it on a serrated knife but to be honest I wouldn`t bother. They come in so many different forms and you`ll probably just damage the sharpener trying to do so. I`d recommend just buying a good serrated blade with lots of small teeth and good length. I`ve got one which is about 30 years old (almost as old as me) which my mum gave me and it still works great.

I think i`ve hit on all the negative comments I read about the product but as i`ve shown with a little bit common sense they are easily solved which only leaves you with a great little product (so far anyway).

I think i`ll buy one to see if it can survive a busy professional Kitchen, we spend about 40.00 every couple of months to get our knives sharpened. Could this product save us 240.00 a year? We`ll have to see.

I should also add that the price is really good, I got it delivered the very next day and for free which was great.

    […]
And remember! A blunt knife is more dangerous than a sharp one. Look for tips on how to handle knives safely. I`m sure there will be video`s on youtube that you can check out or buy a book from amazon.
