I wanted this so that I can tell how hot oil is before throwing in the spices when cooking it gives you a good indication of the heat and makes cooking more interesting. Its just another gadget to play with. You can also balance your radiators with this. Very useful tool.

Very sturdy in comparison to some of the cheaper orange and black ones I’ve had in the past, also approve of the large battery provided instead of cheaper models requiring you to provide your own two AA batteries.

Battery fits well, very snug, and the compartment won’t pop open at any given time. Easy to use, standard form factor as far as temp guns go. Easy to use and as far as I can tell seems reasonably accurate, within at least 0.5c but it’s often hard to test.

    Do recommend.

I’m very impressed with this product! I own a snake and upgraded his heating source and thermostat so I wanted to make sure his hot/cold end are up to scratch. His thermostat (Mircoclimate Evo) is very good at giving precise, live readings of his tank so I compared the product to it and it has an accuracy of maybe 0.2+-. Very very impressive, gives me piece of mind and basically essential for reptile keeping.

This has been working fine for about 3 years of occasional use now. I have a similar one from a different make that was more expensive and they work the same.
A few comments looking at other reviews: Please note that the laser pointer is just a pointer, the actual temperature measurement is invisible (it’s infrared, IR). Also note that the readings can be completely off on some surfaces, especially on shiny surfaces. That’s because shiny surfaces reflect light (including infrared light!) and so you’ll be measuring whatever is reflecting off the shiny object. Same goes for transparent surfaces, e.g. windows: If IR light can go through your window (many windows allow this partially), then your measurement will measure what’s on the other side of the window (or a mix).
In summary, the thermometer works fine, just think “IR light” and “reflections” when measuring shiny surfaces: Measure objects in different places and at different angles to gain a sense of how IR thermometers work.

Fantastic product. Bought it for checking temperature of a pizza oven which it does quickly, easily and without any fuss. However, it’s way better than that as it will also do a forehead temperature test which is really useful at the moment. Love this item! It feels like a ‘but if kit’ and the only issue is keeping it to myself and stopping the kids from testing the temperature of anything, static, moving, living or non-organic! Would highly recommend for immediate, easy temperature readings.

This review is completely unbiased. I did not receive any incentive to write it so I shall keep it short and succinct.
I’ve been having a play around with it and have only one complaint. The laser is off centre. Seriously, at the range you use it for you wouldn’t notice, I’m talking 50 metres in the yard driving the cat crazy.
Accuracy of readings: As far as I can tell they are very good. A cloth heated in the microwave registered at 94c. The central heating thermostat was reading 22.5c, the lasergrip registered it at 22.4c. Surface skin temperature compared to a medical thermometer (which measures both surface and body temperature) were identical.
Tested internal fridge and freezer temperatures on a non icy, matt surface and results were within margins of what you would expect. Remember appliance temperature readings are not precise. I can’t check it at higher temperatures, obviously, but believe it to be trustworthy.
Easy to use, nice grip, etc’, etc’. Buy one.

I bought this to measure the temperature of a nitro engine in a radio control car. It is brilliant! Much cheaper than the big brand alternatives but still works really well. It is accurate (I’ve tested it against boiling water etc) and feels well made. The laser allows you to pinpoint where the temperature is taken and this feature can be turned on or off as required. It will measure in Celsius or Fahrenheit and everything is so easy. Just point and pull the trigger. Need the laser just press a button and it will work next time you pull the trigger. Want F instead of C, just press another button and it’ll change the scale. Want the display to be backlit, then just press the appropriate button and it’ll do that. It really does tick every box – value, accurate and easy to use. I really couldn’t improve it in anyway!

I wanted to get accurate readings from my reptile enclosures but while feeling like “James Bond”. Comfortable, nice size and now I can pretend I’m shooting bad guys and try to look cool at the same time.

You can turn on the laser, turn it off, chance from C to F and have the LCD lit or not.. Plenty of options, I use it every day.. Not sure how to validate the accuracy, but it seems spot on from what I have thermostats setup as..

So I spent a long time researching these for my pizza oven. This one works well and does what it says. I don’t have access currently to any thermocouples to calibrate accuracy. However it seems to show good accuracy when pizza cooking (up in 500 degree range). Only thing that’s a little annoying is there isn’t an intuitive on/off switch so when you are in a hurry and press any button to turn on you can sometimes accidentally turn off the laser or change unit etc. Other than that does the job I need it for. It is relatively light and stores away nicely 🙂

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this to measure the temperature of an Ooni Koda pizza oven. Used for the first time over the weekend and it was very easy to use. The level of accuracy was fine for this application. I also tested on a number of other items around house. Wine cooler set at 6 degrees measured 6 degrees on the thermometer. Oven and freezer also registered measurements in line with set temperatures.

Very easy to use. Press trigger once to turn on, then again to measure.

Docking one star as I received an item that had clearly been used (plastic wrap removed, battery already in device with packaging loose in box) despite being listed as brand new.

Beware the temperature gun. Once you own this no temperature will go unzapped. The fridge, the freezer, wood burning stove, thermostat, home brew, toddler milk, the walls. Your wife will dispair, your children will make the cat chase the laser but you will know, deep down, that when the fridge is set to an arbitrary 2.5 coldness units it is actually 5 Deg C, your freezer is -18 and you will sleep well. Buy this, zap stuff, totally worth it.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersGot this device, like others, for testing the heat of a portable pizza oven.

However, have tested it on other items around the house. Saw a few complaints that it wasn’t picking up the correct temperature of fridges / freezers, so put a digital thermometer in there for half an hour then tested with the Etekcity.

    Freezer (DT / Etek): -23.4C / -23.6C
    Freezer (DT / Etek): 6.0C / 5.5C

Note that the description says the accuracy is 2% or 2C so this is well within that so overall I think it’s safe to say this is pretty accurate and can handle the colder temperatures as well as the warm.

Also worth ignoring the 1-star reviews on here from idiots who bought it to measure body temperature – it clearly says in the description that this isn’t for that purpose, and with the margin of error stated above wouldn’t be much use anyway. Not only that but some of them have complained that they are getting readings of 34C so that would apparently mean they have hypothermia. 34C is actually a fairly normal surface temperature on the human body… I presume they are expecting 37C as this is the most quoted core / internal temperature.

Tried balancing my radiators. Easy to get a reading from the radiator itself: nothing could be simpler. However, balancing requires measuring the inlet and outlet pipes, and these are small. No way to get an accurate reading from those! Useful for checking the radiator heat level afterwards.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought this to take the guesswork out of deep frying temperatures and it has been very helpful. It shows the temperature is dropping well before I can detect it. For accurate readings though you need to be aware of what the instrument is actually looking at, (the side of the fryer, just above the burner, reads hotter than the oil) and the surface emissivity, (shiny tinfoil will give a false reading). It’s all in the instructions.
I’ve since found some other uses for it (reading battery temperature when on fast charge), a very handy gadget for a relatively small price.

This was, bizarrely, a Christmas present. The most entertaining event on Christmas Day was measuring the temperature of everything and everyone – take that, Christmas films. People even squabbled over who would have a turn next.

It has proven to be useful though – checking radiator temperatures, oven thermostat accuracy and temperature differences in a room that pointed me at a simple insulation hack.

If you’re reading this review you’re looking for the confirmation that this lasergun thermometer does what it should.

    It does.

    And it’s fun!

Golden Review Award: 43 From Our UsersBought this to check coolant temperature issues with my car. Very hard to access the relevant hoses in the engine bay and also needed to check (variable) temps from the cabin heater.

So easy to use and confirmed that some pipes were cold, so a water pump/thermostat issue. The exact accuracy is less of an issue for me, so can’t comment on that but it did what I needed it to do.

Great little gadget for the money. Just to ensure if worked properly, I can also confirm that it works on:

    Radiator (Warm)
    Kettle (Warm)
    Kettle contents (Very hot)
    Full coffee Mug (warm)
    Empty Mug (cold)
    Labrador nose (warm and moist)
    Icey water (Very cold)
    The Wife (Icey/stone cold)

Really useful for checking things are warm (or not)

Use this for my pizza oven. Does the job. The laser ensures your pointing it right and the backlit display is clear.

    Works really well.
Nice to have a battery included
I use it for finding air pockets in radiators .
    Seems quite accurate.
    Worth the price.

I like this device, it’s easy to operate and read. It is accurate as far as I can tell. Fast delivery as always with prime.

Not sure how accurate this is, but it’s been helpful in proving temperatures in customer ovens, out in the field.

Used it on hot food core temperatures measurements and it works brilliantly.

Can’t vouch for accuracy as nothing to compare it with, but great for balancing radiators which it what it was brought for.

I use this in my pizza oven to check the temperature on the stone before baking the pizza and it can read over 500 degrees without any issues, and it’s pretty fast too.

Excellent value and seems to be reasonably accurate, although it is designed for objects with a fixed emissivity i.e. black surfaces or e 0.95. The laser pointer is great for locating the measurement area easily, and doubles up as a cat teasing toy! I find it very useful for checking electronic equipment for hot spots, more so for relative measurements so I can see if something is hotter than usual. Runs from a single PP3 battery which has so far lasted many months with occasional usage. Bonus was the supplied case, some do not include a case. The display back light can be turned off if not required to increase battery life. There is also a hold, maximum and minimum memory feature. Overall I cannot fault this device for what I paid for it, definitely better than a thermocouple or glass thermometer! It even measures down to -50 deg C and up to 650 deg C! Just point and measure!
