It has plenty of futures and it seems to be well built. I didn’t like when I took it out of the box, there was some mold on the dust extraction bag.

    Good product, easy to use

I find this a very good saw, I just have two small niggles. (1) The dust extraction is quite poor even with quite a powerful dust extracter on it there is still a lot of dust about. (2) The laser light is also very poor, even with adjustment and keeping it clean it still doesn’t show up on your work very good. Other than that I’m very pleased with it.

Could not get a joiner to turn up so got this to cut cornice at 67.5 degrees and it was spot on so paid less than it was going to cost for joiner and got saw for future jobs

Found this exact same product had been reduced in price the day after i ordered it so wasn’t happy however its a good saw and does exactly as advertised. Its one of the cheaper makes so cant yet comment on the longevity of it. It does require some assembly and the instructions are not exactly clear but if you are competent in using this saw you should have the competence to assemble it.

    Total amateur to wood working.
My main need was to cut medium sized logs from the garden and the occasional wood work.
    Excellent machine.
Easy to assemble, official short video online is very useful, although had to pause many times.
Laser is not that bright but can live with it.
    Cuts anything like butter.
Comes with a collection bag but is almost useless and the debris is all over the place. Will need a good hand held vaccum or a blower.
Very happy as the machine is very sturdy and of such good quality
    5 stars from me.

Overall very impressed, it makes clean accurate cuts and is easy to use. Only slight niggle is the Instructions are a bit hard to understand and there are a lot of models which can get confusing.

Accurate and a great addition to my tools. Why didn’t I get a mitre saw before.

Can’t compare against other brands but this saw has done everything I’ve asked of it.

My only moan (And its a small moan) is the laser guidance. Not good enough!!

Otherwise a no brainer for the DIYer.

Arrived this morning, couldn’t wait to see it working. Lovely machine, looks sturdy, seams very accurate the only very annoying thing is I pay 185 and this evening I see the machine at 166,93….

My second one of these tools, i have the smaller one which performs very well and is easily transported.
I needed deeper, wider cutting ability so chose Evolution again with no regrets.
25 mins after arrival i was up and running.
You can really ignore reviews suggesting this saw takes a lot of time to build, especially if you have some experience with such tools. The work i did today didn’t call for total accuracy but the saw was close straight out of the box. Plus adjustments are easy enough to make.
I will, as with any make of saw at any price, make the fine adjustments before i start doing what i really purchased it for, making huge hardwood picture frames.
From what i see today I am quite sure that should not be a problem for this saw.
For this i always use a blade specifically for the purpose, although the supplied blade is totally fine for most jobs.
    Superb service too!

    Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI have waited a few months before I give a review so here goes;

I was in a quandary, this or the Bosch, in the end I went with this one, arrived and quite easy to set up, adjusted everything and it is now close as I can get to perfect, it cuts straight and true, the laser is not really of any use as you cannot see it unless you fancy working in the dark.

Dust collection is bad, I have a dedicated power dust collector and on my old saw did ok, not brilliant but ok, on this one it is close to nothing, 90% is on the table or floor so you will need a mask but I use one anyway, so now I am thinking I should have bought the Bosch (and I still think it)

As a mitre saw it is good, as most of them are at this sort of price, but I wish I had bought the Bosch as it has two dust collection points which would have cut down on cleaning up, if you do not mind the dust issue and forget about the laser, then it is a nice saw. I would still buy the Bosch given a second chance.

Just remembered to say about the good ideas they have; carrying handles, and the two hooks for the cable even though the cable clip that holds the plug out of the way when stored broke on second use! Plus the Allen key is onboard for changing the blade.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy old mitre saw had seen better days and after 20 years of service it was time to renew. My main use of the saw is for private DIY projects, cutting a variety of materials including planks up to 30 cm wide. I read the reviews on a number of combination saws, very expensive to quite cheap, clearly all differing specifications. Based on the information I decided on the Evolution R255MS+ fitted with a quality multi material cutting blade.

The saw was delivered on time and in order. There was some self assembly to be carried out to bring the saw into service. The process took about 25 minutes and was a straight forward task using the enclosed instructions. (I did have a look on Youtube first to see if there were any snags to be avoided, there were none).

I tested the 2000 watt machine out on wood, metal and plastic. The blade cut very accurately and cleanly. There was no need to make any adjustments to the factory settings.

The saw is big, being some 70 cm wide and deep and when using the slide saw function the it needs 90 cm co make a 30 cm cut. So make sure you have enough room behind the saw when mounted on your bench.

Despite being fitted with a dust collection bag, I attached it to a vacuum cleaner but it still spread a lot of sawdust etc on itself and the workbench.

All in all I am very satisfied with its performance.

First thing is THIS IS NOT DOUBLE BEVEL, when I purchased the info stated double bevel, as does the model number (DB).

Other than that the saw is fine. One quirk which my old saw didn’t do is it will allow you to start the saw on the pull trigger without the guard trigger being pressed. I’ve you can start the saw with the guard still on. That seems odd to me as my last saw didn’t, but perhaps (hopefully) that’s how it is supposed to activate.

A lot more plastic is used in its construction compared to my old DeWalt saw, so not sure how long it will last after use.

It did need adjusting out of the box to square and straighten the cuts bit now is fine and fairly accurate.

Really pleased with this purchase. After spending an age looking at various makes in the same price range I opted for the Evolution as it seemed to offer a high spech tool at a very reasonable price. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. It’s really well made with a very accurate cut. The brake system means you can quickly move from cut to cut safely.
I would certainly recommend this saw for both DIY’ers & tradesman – of which I’m one.

This the best mitre saw for value I have had. It is quieter and more accurate out of the box then any previous model . I had to play with the laser guide, but I persevered, and it is now smack on .All other features work as advertised. I would advise getting another spare evolution blade for use on metal. They last well, but the wood cutting might suffer if after cutting a lot of metal a nice cut on hard wood is required.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery pleased with this saw. It’s a big beast of a machine and you need plenty of space to use it. I bought it to accommodate wider and thicker pieces of timber and it handles these very well, but that does mean you need space to operate the slider. The cutting is accurate enough for what I need, better than my previous compound mitre saw, but it’s a whisker away from being a precision cut. The blade cuts cleanly, but it’s important to let it get fully up to speed (it has a soft start to protect the motor) before cutting to avoid splintering at the end of the cut. The motor is really powerful and it copes well with thick, wide timber. I haven’t tried it with other materials yet. My one main criticism is that the dust extraction doesn’t deal with most of the sawdust, even when hooked up to a vacuum cleaner. I still have to spend time clearing up after use. Overall I’m very pleased with the saw.

This is my first miter saw and i have to mention that I am not a profetional woodworker. Since you open the pack you can see that we have a good quality build miter saw. It can be easily adjusted and the accuracy since you make the right adjustments is excellent! I just can’t imagine how a more expensive saw would be so much better. I have already made a few projects and i am very happy with this purchase! Still haven’t used it for metal cuts but knowing that you have the ability to cut metal , tiles and stone is a big plus for this machine!!!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersVery easy to use, and get the hang of. I had never used one before but bought to do a lot of hard wood flooring in my house. This sped up the process considerably compared to just using my jigsaw. I had to use youtube to show me how to put it together, I’m not sure how much of that was the instructions weren’t that easy to follow or because it was all completely unfamiliar to me. Not sure how good the blade is at cutting other materials, as so far I have only used it on wood and plastic, but I have done three large rooms so far and the blades still sharp.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHaving decided to reframe and clad a large garage/workshop I needed something to speed up the process and produce consistent cuts each time. As the owner of an Evolution saw bench this looked to be just what I needed. To date I have not been disappointed. It was relatively easy to assemble straight out of the box. The instructions make a big thing of making sure you fit the table extensions on the correct end but they are exactly the same and it makes no difference, so time wasted here.
When assembled and put on the workbench it rocked about a bit but when fitted to the proper mitre saw stand it was fine.
Once in use accuracy was good but a few adjustments were required to get it just right. Controls easy to use and the supplied blade cuts well. The laser guide is a useful addition and the 3 piece hold down clamp works very well.
Overall a good saw for the price.

Good piece of kit. Easily assembled and pretty accurate straight out of the box. Worth spending a little time tweaking and checking to get it exactly right though. Multi purpose blade as supplied seems to go through almost anything and cuts cleanly, but if you are working with just timber, a specialised wood cutting blade might give neater cuts. I have just built a summer house from scratch and the saw has coped beautifully with everything that I threw at it. I use it mounted on the Evolution saw stand, which is well worth buying. Very pleased with the tool and looking for another project now. Time to build some garden furniture I think.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPurchased during Prime Day and the price was worth getting it early. Have only just use in anger as had to wait for the new shed to be erected and have space to work.

Easy to setup having read the instructions and watched the online videos as I went along. Checked the blade angle and did a couple of test cuts. Laser line makes knowing things are inline with the blade so easy!!

Now using in anger to build a new workbench so I can get on with projects in mind for the saw. Also got the saw stand again only just used it but how easy was that compared to the fiddling around I have done for years to support material.

The whole unit feels solidly built and real thought seems to have gone into improving over the brands older saws. Paper instructions are possible to follow with a little bit of guesswork (instructions seem to be for a diferant revision of the saw) but the video is excellent.

Bought this to handle a number of upcoming jobs, until now have used a jigsaw for everything erything.

Bevel cut skirting board: done a few pieces so far and is accurate and easy to use. Gives a clean cut that only requires minimal sanding before fitting.

Have had a growing pile of old wood that needed chopping for the fire (decking, hardwood fence posts and the like) that i just couldn’t face doing with a jigsaw. This made short work of the pile with very little effort from me.

New workbench! Used this to cut both the timber and the steel reinforcements. Did a beautiful job.

Precision cutting some aluminium extrusions was also a breze both for straight and mitre cuts. Have yet to try a compound cut but can’t see there being any issues. To get a perfectly square cut I did have to adjust the saw using a set of paralells but very easy to do by following the included instructions.

As others have noted the lazer is not great (both in visibility and accuracy) Easier to mark up the work peice and do it by eye.

I’m short a great addition to a home workshop.

I have been using this saw solidly since purchasing in May 2019.
I can say that it has been a joy to use.
From cutting large pieces of 9 x 2 inch timber to mitering more delicate pieces for framing it has been superb! accurate and clean cuts on every level.
The quick release clamps hold pieces very well and the soft start is a great feature although I have caught myself going for the cut a tad early at times a lesson in slowing things down a bit.
I have no issues with the laser and find the laser switch on the handle a great addition, plus no batteries needed!
I have no hesitation recommending this saw to anybody.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve had a Makita mitre saw for a year or so. Great unit but this is the one I should have bought. The laser guide is one of the most useful features. I’ve been making garden furniture from steel pieces and this thing has made every cut so precise it’s impossible to make a mistake. So pleased with it. The sliding run on the saw means you can cut much larger pieces than a fixed saw. the quick positioning clamps are really useful and well designed. My only gripe is the laser mount is too fragile. Without realising a knocked it out of alignment with a piece of wood and it proved a real pain to re-align. It could be positioned better to avoid this quite easily. Otherwise I can’t fault it. Blade is incredible for wood or metal so far. I’m cutting mild steel about 2mm thick without effort. Very happy.

Bought an Evolution matching stand to go with it. Unfortunately the bolts supplied to fix the saw to the stand weren’t long enough to attach to the quick release runners. There were none in the stand I purchased at the same time. Looking for 4mm quick release bolts on Amazon to make it perfect. Still give it 5 stars despite this minor hick-up

So easy to assemble. Best thing is the build quality. This bit of kit is far larger and more substantial than a lot of commercial equipment. You can spend less on other makes but you will not get anything close to how good this is.

Ignoring the ‘ornamental’ dust bag that other people have mentioned it’s been a terrific saw for my scratch built shed project. I just had to align the laser with the blade and adjust the angle stops and its just been a pleasure to use.

Didn’t realise at first that these have a left-handed thread on the motor shaft..

OK the vertical material clamp will jump if tightened as much as you think it needs to be tightened but I hardly use it anyway.

Made me realise how difficult it is to refer to images via “Fig. n” references when reading technical instructions.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersThis is my first mitre saw I have owned (used a few elsewhere) and I wanted to get a fairly robust and comprehensive model for all my own DIY projects.

I’ve owned an Evolution circular saw for a number of years now, and whilst that itself is difficult to line up because the markings don’t properly correspond with the cut, I’ve overall liked the quality and value of the saw so I was keen to give the Evolution mitre saw a try.

    +PROS+
I really like the portable nature of this saw. You can quickly fold it down to carry it about, and whilst it is still pretty big and relatively heavy, it is far easy doing it with this saw than trying to do it with other makes/models.

The multiblade cuts like a charm and I’m glad I don’t have to worry about hitting the odd bit of something nasty (as I work with reclaimed wood a lot) – it just glides through everything I’ve come up against so far.

    -CONS-
The laser line lets this saw down big time. You can barely see the line unless working on a dull day or in low light, thus making you waste extra time lining the blade up manually, or worse – trying to huddle round the saw to block out some light so you can see it. Even when you CAN see it, the line is fairly far off the actual cut (in my case around 5mm) so you have to remember to compensate for that when lining up the cut. Overall it makes me envy the drop shadow line of competitor saws and is the result of the one star drop for this review.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersI bought this over 6 months ago, however it has sat in my garage waiting for me to get a bit more space, but today I had a project that required its use. It took a little bit to set it up but the instructions were clear, and even when I installed the slide rails upside down , it was easy to rectify the issue.

Once the saw was assembled, it took a little to get the saw setup correctly, but the adjustments were easily made. One point to note, is that if you need to adjust the laser, you will need to ensure the saw is plugged in and powered on. Once set up the saw is easily to use, is powerful and cuts cleanly.

I really liked the soft start up, the ease of use once running and the fact that the cord tidies away neatly. I paired it with the Evolution Mitre Saw Stand which provided a perfect base to work from, at a proper height. The use of the support rollers to provide a stop for repeated cuts was invaluable.

Overall, as with other my Evolution power tools, I have been very pleased with my mitre saw and I would recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 19 From Our UsersThe saw itself is great, step by step instructions to set up are easy to follow if you’re methodically minded.

The versatility and quality of the cuts are excellent, however the clamps it comes with leave a lot to be desired…

Mine came with the quick release versions; the locking parts of which are meant to “clip” round the thread of the spindle that pushes the clamp onto the work piece, rather than screwing something tight and loose, however the locking parts don’t clip down tightly enough resulting in a loose clamp. And a loose clamp ain’t a clamp.

It’s a shame to give such a good saw a 4 star rating over something as seemingly trivial as a loose clamp, but if the clamp doesn’t hold the work piece properly then the saw is useless, no matter how accurate it is; and it’s very accurate – after following the standard set up I measured the angle of the blade with a magnetic digital angle finder, which gave a vertical reading of 89.9 degrees, and works within a 0.01 % tolerance. I’ll take that all day long for the price paid.

Golden Review Award: 43 From Our UsersBig box. A little straightforward assembly. I mounted mine on a piece of ply with a piece of 3 by 4 underneath so I could mount it in my B&D workmate. I’m not a pro but I’m not that good with a handsaw so I was keen for an accurate powerful machine.
Out of the box it’s square and all the cuts I’ve done since have been spot on. I purchased a wood blade and use that rather than the multi use blade that came with the saw. It cuts clean and square. The laser isn’t the brightest but works OK. I use an old Dyson to extract dust and it makes a lot of dust…
Trench cutting isn’t like a dewalt radial arm saw as the blade comes down in an arc so the cut gets deeper the further back you cut. So cutting a trench isn’t straightforward. The clamps work well and hold steadily.
As I said I’m not a pro carpenter but the way I figure it I won’t be wasting good wood with poor cuts so in the long run I will get the investment back.
Am I pleased with it and would I buy again? That’s a definite yes.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersStraight forward to assemble. Pleasantly surprised at the smooth cut that the multi purpose blade gives. My unit was quite accurate out the box but I was able to marginally improve it with adjustments (this is not a difficult exercise). The only disconcerting thing is the soft start but once I recognised I should wait a few secs then all is good. The other thing that I have noticed is a slight burning smell from the saw – not sure if this is a potential problem or, with more use, it will disappea

Love it, replaced my old Rage mitre, solid bit of kit, very accurate.

I’d say the only flaws are it’s “build up” start, i.e the slight delay before blade is at full speed.
Also the mitre fence holes are in the top moveable part not the bottom so attaching an additional fence is not perfect.

Dust collection is also poor, as it is with all more saws.

There isn’t much I can add to the previous reviews, suffice to say that this makes life far more easier. I make a few picture frames and some other bits and pieces, but it’s time consuming and I have to admit the cuts aren’t always accurate. (I enjoy doing it but don’t profess to be good.)

Now the frames are perfect and I’ve been trying out things with piping, metal and other materials, and the cut is perfect. It’s the first product of its kind that I’ve owned and it did look a daunting prospect but if I can set it up for use, anyone can. With a maximum cutting range of 300mm (11.8 inches) by 80mm (3.1 inches), it’s suitable for most projects. Yes, I guess it’s portable but I wouldn’t fancy carrying it around, so it’s better off in your workshop. Whether I’ll plump for the brick/concrete blade is something for the future. Value for money? It certainly saves time, so in the long run it has to be.

My only complaint is that I’m now being pestered to fill the walls with picture frames.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersWell this turned out to be a bit of a surprise to be honest. When I got this to review I fully expected it to be a bit rubbish and unlikely to supersede my Bosch sliding chop saw – but ideal for a rough saw when working in my garden. The reason for this is I bought an Evolution table saw a few months back and frankly its low rent to say the least. My review was suitably scathing despite the fact it was my hard earned that had been wasted on it.

But no. When I opened the box I found a well packaged and solidly built bit of kit that compares more than favourably with other similar priced items. I should know as I’ve gone through five in the last 7 years renovating my house, abusing them along the way.

Going back to the packaging, whilst its well done, be careful as I found a couple of loose parts that could easily be lost if you huff everything out and don’t watch where everything is.

And one more thing which is that you do have a little bit of assembly work to do, which I’ve noted is not the case on other sliding mitre saws I’ve had. Means that Evolution can box it up in a more compact way for transportation I would assume.

So, you have to basically fit the siding bars into the tilting base and then lock them into place. This happens when the protruding tangs meet the locating holes and are pushed home. They release two locking buttons at the side – see photo. The instructions are not 100% idiot proof and whilst comprehensive lack a bit of clarity of description.

When assembled you have a study sliding mitre saw that is well made and smooth to use. The materials are decent for the price and should last a long time unless you really are a huge tool abuser. There’s easy access to the brushes for replacement – not included – and the handle falls nicely and ergonomically to hand. I particularly like the guard release bar which is well positioned for easy use by either your thumb or base of your hand – see video.

The chopping action is smooth and the sliding bars are located in linear bearings that allow easy operation back and forth.

A really nice touch is the soft start. This is the first saw I’ve had with one and the lack of a jolt as it starts is most welcome. I have had to slow down my use though, as previous saws started direct on line and I could start and chop in a second. On this one you have to allow a couple of seconds for the blade to speed up to cutting speed so that you don’t bog it down. Once I have got used to it I have to say its far more pleasant in use. I would also imagine that if used on site or with a lower amp rated MCB, the lower starting current would prevent tripping.

Accuracy is good and out of the box when checked against a 123 block it was near perfect. I then used the 123 block to get it bang on accurate at 90deg vertical and horizontal and set the indicators accordingly.

Speaking of the 123 block – my advice is to get one for easy and accurate on the job setting up. No matter how well the indicators are lined up, there’s always a bit of slop in this type of saw so if you really need to be accurate then having a 123 block to hand makes it easy to do so. These are machine tool items but cheap to buy on Amazon now. And as we are on the subject of accuracy, this saw comes with a lazer guide. Which is completely pointless. Its utterly inaccurate, impossible to adjust in any meaningful way and has zero quality with a flexible plastic base that just bends when you try to set it up. I’m not overly bothered about this as lazer guides are a gimmick and I’ve never relied on one ever. However, if you really want one, then forget this.

The unit comes with two holding arms with the horizontal one being quite well though through as it drops into place and easily lifts out when not needed. Once again, I’ve never, ever used one of these, but for some people locking in the item to be cut and then removing hands from anywhere near the blade is their chosen way of use in which case these work well enough.

I have used this on hard wood, soft wood and steel. All cut easily with the Evolution blade. This blade is of course a multi-purpose one so not optimised for any one thing. That being said on all three materials the cuts have been clean and precise. I cut a 25mm x 3mm steel bar for test purposes and it handled it easily. Not sure how long such a thin blade will last, but whilst in good condition, it works very well indeed.

Overall, for the money it would be hard to beat this saw. So much so, I have used it to replace my trusty Bosch one.

Much Better Quality than Expected. Really Good Value for Money

We (my husband) has it mounted on a stand and is very pleased with it. Works well for a variety of projects. Very easy to cut at a range of angles and depths. Its very manoeuvrable. Cons: dust extraction not good, and most irritating maintaining constant depth of cut, eg when repeatedly cutting into a joist to make a mortice, is not good. overall though a good tool, would happily get another one. Best getting widest blade and good power since you’ll always find a smaller compromise to be aggravating.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI had always heard that Evolution tools are the business which I why I took an option on one through the Vine system.

It was delivered fairly quickly, well packed and with all the tools needed to assemble it included.

The assembly instructions are complete and concise and, after a read through, assembly is very quickly under way.
There is an exploded diagram sheet as well as the full instructions and I would definitely recommend reading the full sheet first of all, remembering that this tool has the ability to maim and/or kill if you make a mistake.

This where one glitch occurred, not in assembly as such but in the tool developing a fault very soon after completion.

I found that after assembly, on the second day of use, the motor developed a pretty nasty over heating smell, followed the next day by a severe case of bearing rumble.

There were a few glitches in getting the tool returned but, after a few days, a new one arrived.
I did notice that the second one had some parts pre-assembled which the first one hadn’t had.

The new one was assembled, blade fitted and then run up.

I am pleased to say that there was no rumble either on or off load and, although a light smell of new motor heating was noticeable, certainly nothing as bad as the first machine.

The machine is very well balanced and there is no blade vibration, even if cutting through wood which has screws going through it.

Everything moved freely, and the blade unit sliders work very cleanly and precisely.
I suggest going through the full set up to ensure that everything is as spot on as it can be.

    BE AWARE!

The R255SMS has a soft start motor so ensure that you wait for the motor to come up to full speed before drawing the blade through the wood and making a cut.
Do NOT start the blade with it touching the wood (common sense hopefully but these days there’s not as much of that about as there used to be.

I would have given this a 5 star review but the very early failure of this saw sort of drew me away from that.
I would purchase Eveolution tools again and we shall see how this one works out.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis is a solid, well designed and practical item well deserving of a 5***** review.

First thing on unpacking, you see a polystyrene insert which contains most of the bits you need to put the whole saw together. The saw blade itself is in a sleeve reminiscent to this ol’ timer of an LP sleeve. Read the instructions, which are actually not the best, and then apply some common sense and you should find building it is not difficult. There are lots of bits, but it’s all quite quick and easy.

I’m of the view that if you’re serious about an item like this then it needs to be attached to a suitable bench or stand. Stands are available separately and Amazon has a recommended double buy of the saw and stand that’s worth a think about, or shop around and see what else you can find. Just do the job right and don’t mess about. These tools can be very dangerous.

So you build the thing and what’s next? Well, it has to be having a go with different bits of scrap … I had some wood, metal bar and plastic pipe lying around. All were sliced through neatly and easily. Very impressive start.

My first ‘project’ was a planter made with some scrapped decking wood. Adjusted the thing and came up with with neat angled joints for the corners. Just a quick pencil design, worked out the dimensions and zip, zip, zip then screw, screw, screw and it was all done and dusted in 40 minutes. These things cost around 30 bought, so nice result from some scrap.

Talking about done and dusted … there’s a bag to attract the sawdust, or you can probably add the hose of a vacuum cleaner I reckon and apply some suck to the job. I don’t have a suitable cleaner to try that unfortunately. Overall, it was all pretty clean, but wear a mask eh! Wear ear defenders and eye protection too. Part of the cleanliness is the fine cut of the blade. It really is super neat and on my planter I needed zero sanding of the sawn edges. Still talking safety, the mains cable to tucked into a kind of channel which helps prevent it hanging loose. This is a neat and thoughtful practical feature, as is the ability to keep the Allen key neatly stored yet handy. It’s all the little bits of usability thinking that help make this a great piece of kit.

So all in, for a non-enthusiast DIY type like me I found this saw pretty inspiring. I’m sure I’ll get solid use from it. It’s so simple and quick that jobs you’d be tempted to put off can just get done. Use it within its capabilities, which are many, and you’ll be very happy with your investment.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a heavy duty saw which comes with most items needed. You will only need a workbench either folding or solid type that can have the base of this attached to it. The set up instructions were not great as the figs were small and without either arrow or highlighted part, so it was hard to see what was being referenced in the text. I set this up with another as it was very heavy and bulky.

We took our time getting to know it as it is a dangerous piece of kit. We also used eye protection and ear defenders.

We had difficulty locating the mounting of the rearmost cable crib and hook cable tidy and also wondered why that could not have come already attached as the front one was. Whilst we realized it would have to be loosened in order the rear part of cable be inserted, this would have been a far easier job given that it would already have been readily locatable and the self tapping hex screw already there.

That aside, one other criticism is the long and short clamps are not fully swappable which means if you have a work piece where it would be handy to do this you will need another clamp of your own, as the long clamp, the one that clamps the side of the wood or other material, unlike the short clamp cannot be used to the left side of the cutting front face as it is obstructed by the height of the saw base/fence.

Regards its use, the lazer guide is really good and a big help and the cut is quick accurate and very clean.

We tried putting a large chunky bit of wood on it to cut but found it would not be possible as the blade guard and machine body woild prevent it reaching it so this is only for kitchen worktop thickness max.

The fact ot is so easy to use though means if you think you are going to just be cutting planks or worktops then this is definitely the one to get. The smoothness of the finish was unlike I ever achieved with conventional circular saw. It can acheve this as the work item is so securely held the precision is maintained.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have used evolution saws for some years now and have always found them good, easy to use and very effective. Maybe they do not have the durability of De Walt and other professional brands, but taken care of they have proved serviceable and relatively long lived in my workshops. This saw, unlike most that I have used over the years has a lot more building in order to put it together: full instructions are supplied, but much is intuitive and the single page getting started leaflet helps, so that the task is not particularly difficult. An Allen Key is supplied. The machine has been well thought out, with quick releases on both holding clamps supplied and the front, long reach holding clamp is new and possibly unique. Out of the box, the saw has been set up to be ready to cut, following construction and is very accurate too. The slide allows for fairly wide cutting, with a laser to aid accuracy and the saw can be set at angle on both horizontal and vertical planes. The cuts are remarkably fine with very little. if any. tear out and true from the outset. All-in-all, a remarkably good machine.

The Evolution mitre saw turned up promptly, well packaged with the address label on the product carton. Despite initial reservations, the saw is very easy to set up with clear instructions (there are videos on you tube if you are struggling). Having read the instructions and looked at a video, it took around 15 minutes to set up. The machine looks to be a very good quality and one that will hopefully provide a lot of use.The saw comes complete with the necessary Alan key to assist with the set up. The bit to be careful with is the fitting of the blade — it is sharp. The blade provided is a very good quality 255mm tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) blade… providing a good width and depth clean cut. The start-up of the saw is far quieter that I expected, and the blade stops quickly when switching off. The blade itself cuts effortlessly through wood, metals and plastics with a very good cut quality and able to create straight, bevel and mitre cuts. This is a saw that I am very pleased with and will get a lot of use out of. It is difficult to fault, and certainly worth considering.

Edit – a couple of weeks on and I have used this to lay a floor and loads of other jobs. This is an excellent piece of equipment.

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersPrior to this I have had the Rage 3 version which was very, very good. With this new model a couple of enhancements have been made.

First of all, it is lighter to carry around. I think this is down to the pressed steel base, whereas before is looked like it had been cast. Also there is now a cover over the slide arms (these used to get full of sawdust on the Rage 3).

The great features of the Rage 3 have been retained including the universal blade that cuts through everything, except stone/concrete (there is an option blade for that), including light steel, wood, copper, you name it.

It is relatively quiet in operation, however there is the blade on material (especially when used on metal) that cannot be sound deadened.

It now has a couple of carrying handles built in (not on the Rage 3) which make it easier to lug around the workshop (my heavy power tools are stored on racking and carried across to my bench area when needed).

I would also highly recommend the stand that is available as an optional extra and, direct from the manufacturer, you can also buy additional fixing kits (so I can also attached a planer/thickener or a table saw to the stand).

Overall a great package and a worthy upgrade from the Rage 3 (which was also excellent in its own right).

    UPDATED AFTER FURTHER USE:

This has required a slight modification to make it work properly. The issue is when using this in the direction of a rip, rather than a cross-cut. The problem is that the shavings are long, rather than sawdust, and they then get stuck in the exhaust vent on top of the guard, eventually blocking it completely. Now I know you will say that I shouldn’t suggest this, but the thing to do is to remove the two parallel guards within the exhaust shute. These guards are there to stop you shoving your fingers down the exhaust tube and slicing yourself open on the blade. My personal view is that if you are stupid enough to shove your fingers down there while the blade is running, you shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near sharp objects. To remove, get a wide bladed screwdriver; place on the join between one of the guards and the circular tube and give the screwdriver a sharp tap with a hammer; the join will easily break. Repeat as necessary on the other three joints. Having done this myself, the ejection of both rip and cross-cut waste works well, especially with the exhaust connected up to a shop vac (I use a heavy duty wet and dry vac). It must be stressed that by doing the above, you are removing a safety feature and you do so at your own risk….

    =(Still) Very highly recommended
