The Evolution Rage5 is a foldable tablesaw with many top features, and certainly good value for money. When collapsed it stores into quite a thin configuration.
The saw itself is great, but, as other purchasers have noted, the frame assembly is a bit of a challenge. The assembly manual is next to useless, only good for identifying the bolts and screws.
Having been in engineering for most of my working life, it still took me quite a while to assemble, and even then I put the legs on back-to-front the first time! My advice is, if you’re not an engineering type, there are a number of you tube instructions videos which may help.
But the assembly is worth the effort in the end.
Good saw. But the saw guard will only work with wood up too 30mm. Tricky to assemble.
shame customer service dont reply to emails or telephone calls
incorrect parts
make sure you have a drill handy to try and fit the base because the holes will definately not line up
Good versatile portable table saw.
The equipment once assembled is very good, however the assembly instructions in the provided book are difficult to follow, there is an assembly video which is helpful. for these reasons i have only marked it as a 4 star.
What an amazing machine! For my first table saw! As advertised by casual DIY’er on YouTube now I will have to make a saw sled and a router table to the space as per Tomas the casual diy’er
Thanks Dale
This saw is awesome for the money. Made accurate grooves for cabinet doors no problem. Folds up so storing in the corner no problem. Highly recommend
Love it, it cuts like dream, a bit of a pain putting together but got there in the end.
Instructions could be better explained as none of the pieces are numbered but the instructions say different.
But on the whole a great bit of kit..
It cuts wood and metal. Is good to move around and store.
The sliding table is an asset.
I have used it constantly since purchase and am well pleased.
This took a long time to put together – a bit over two hours. One of the bolts had no thread (I had a replacement handy).
Overall, it seems good solid bit of kit, but I find that the guide rail can slip a mm or two, so you need to pay close attention if you want precision cuts. I’ve been using an additional clamp to hold it in place.
The large bed and cutting range is fantastic – it can take a lot of weight and gives a good clean and square cut up to 650mm (plenty for a cupboard door, or whatever).
The dust hose doesn’t do much (if anything) unless you attach a vacuum.
Just be aware that it is large and awkward to move around – I made it in the living room, but it was too big to go through the doorway on its wheels, so I had to drag it out sideways after removing the blade guard.
Super value for money lovely piece of kit
Very happy
I used this for the first time yesterday and it worked brilliantly. Careful set up with the instructions and it gave me a perfect straight cut at exactly the required dimensions. So versatile too, not investigated that far yet.
I have no problems with the machine so far it does the job it’s built for. Building it took just over an hour, had a few sticky moments but a hammer and screw driver fixed that. Needed another size Alan key that was not provided. Only niggling point I have is adjusting the balance with the wing nut, there must have been a better solution.
Its always difficult to know how well a product will stand up when bought on line, this saw did not disappoint. Easy to assemble when carefully following instructions, easy to move and very stable when erected. The various side extensions and slides are all very good. The cross cut slide is particularly useful. If it has a down side I would have like a height adjustment but still very usable for me.
I bought to speed up laying a new wood floor, easily reduced time by 25-30% . Easy to use and very versatile.
Great price for a very versatile table saw, that some more expensive brands do not have. This is a well thought out and designed machine and it has a unique ability to fold up and put into a small corner of your workshop.Let’s be honest the build quality is pretty good but not top notch, very small imperfections but nothing drastic to effect you using the machine with confidence. The mitre sliding strip has a small side play of around 4 m.m. which I have fixed with a small strip of metal sticky tape (Speed tape) attached to the underside of this sliding table. To help you assemble this table saw,be sure to check out a YouTube video by Russell Plattenhe is very good at the assembly. As for me I had trouble with the very last bolt to go in on the tubing,I fixed this by shaving a little bit off the plastic spacerwhich worked for me.When it was all finally assembled,I tried to cut a test piece of 7 ply wood.Wow ! I was so surprised how quiet the machine was,and it made a perfect cut.I also checked how level the aluminium table top was and it was perfect. Also checked and adjust the rip fence in relation to the blade disc which was spot on,and the 90 deg of the blade disc to the table which was also good.Hopefully this machine will serve me well for years to come, only time will tell about its reliability and durability. So for me I think this machine is very good value for the price, considering other more well known brands are about 200 more.A very useful addition to my Hobby wood working garage.Recommended to the person on a tight budget, you will not be disappointed for this price.
Easy to put together and store away. Works perfectly for all the wood cutting jobs. If you going to be doing lots of wood then you should buy a good wood blade. Very happy with my purchase and I got this based on my brother who purchased one over a year ago and was also very happy
Fast delivery, a challenge to assemble though (finding a online video helped), once assembled it works fine.
Fantastic machine – recommend looking on YouTube for more detailed instructions to build it!!
I bought this having been very disappointed with my cheapo starter Von Haus. I have been impressed with my other evolution tools, so it seemed sensible to carry on. I am very happy with the accuracy and robustness of the fence. The mitre attachment is a bit wobbly but the youtubes have an answer for that. I love the built in extensions and the sliding segment for cross cuts. Very happy overall.
It was a big decision to opt for what might be considered to be a budget table saw but this fellow oozes quality. The fence is rock solid and easily adjusted to make it parallel to the blade. The bed extensions are firm and robust. But what really makes this saw stand out is the built in sliding table. This feature alone should be enough to persuade anyone to invest in this product. When collapsed it’s footprint is small enough to fit in the corner of the work shop. And when it’s time to tackle big jobs, which it is more than capable, it can be easily wheeled through doorways and simply erected in an area with more space. The supplied blade will tackle almost any job, even steel, and makes light work of timber and boards.
The initial assembly whilst a bit fiddly is quite intuitive and once adjusted provides a firm and solid platform.
I have used it for ripping and cross cutting and have not found it wanting in any area.
I would most definitely recommend this saw.
Just assembled looks good haven’t calibrated it yet but so far no complaints.
Very pleased with the quality, very easy to assemble. Good quality. Delivery was quicker than we expected.
Great quality and value for money. Excellent mid range table saw. Easy to set up, use and store.
Always wanted a good table saw but price has been a factor until I saw this Rage 5 table saw and read the reviews. I have now been using saw it is very good accurate easy to use and manoeuvrable. Putting together took some time but straight forward. It performs so well it made my mind up to upgrading my mitre saw to 255mm double bevel so blades will be interchangeable.
Excellent general purpose saw table. Superb cuts when fitted with a finer saw blade. Some of the holes in the framework didn’t line up and had to be reamed out, otherwise a very clever design.
Awesome saw! For the money probably the best table saw I’ve use in my career as a Handyman. It’s well made, accurate and pretty powerful. My only criticism is the assembly instructions can be a little confusing at time but you get there in the end.
This is one good piece of kit very accurate and easy to operate
Tablesaws come in all specs and prices. As a DIY/hobbyist I found this piece of kit gave me everything I needed from a table saw.Once set up it has proven to be highly accurate, +/- 0.25mm, when working with wood, which is my main use for this saw. Dust collection very good. Fits in my small garage and is easily wheeled out. Assembly straight forward, just take your time, and good size extendable table.
The saw fits all the description as stated but confused as to the use of the extra guide supplied which fits on to the main guide not much explanation on the leaflets. a bit more help would be appreciated, but it a good versitle saw
Really good for the money. I had a few bolts missing and I’m waiting to hear back from Evolution. Otherwise really good.
Great table saw for the price. Well put together and thought out. Takes a while to put together ( about 3 hours) and the video instructions to do this are a must. Take your time setting it up. Used so many times today and perfect cut every time really pleased. Feels solid and stores and transports easily. Fantastic product would highly recommend.
First thing I did was replace blade with one from Saxton blades, better cut and I will only be cutting wood, to assemble I went with the evolution video as the instructions that came with it are useless. Love the way the saw can be folded away and stored in the corner of a small workshop.
The fence has to be checked before ripping as its not totally parallel to the blade but I check every time anyway. All in all so far not a bad saw fir the money.
Portable, easy to use, and no complaints so far, does the job I bought it for.
Very versatile once you assemble to trolley section that however was the only let down. The tools supplied (1 Allen key) doesn’t fit anything on the machine or the build. The detailed instructions for assembly failed to.mention about position of wheels. Took 3 attempts (2 broken cups) to finally get trolley position for correct use. Personnelly would have been better if trolley pre-assembled requiring just 4 screw in bolts to attach to table saw and not dozens of parts.
At this time I have given 4 stars, have not used it for long time at this point. Very good saw for its money.
Easy to put together (any probs…YouTube) a little awkward to move cos of weight but wheels a great help.
Agonised over which budget table saw to buy, and after reading multiple reviews I opted for this. It arrived really well packaged, no damage as others have mentioned. A bit of a pulava putting it together but I watched a video on the evolution website which helped get the job done.
I’m no expert and this is my first table saw, but having used it to build kitchen cabinets and doors, I can say it really does the job well. Cuts are precise, albeit you need to spend the time to calibrate everything, which again there is a useful video on the evolution website for. I didn’t do this at first and had some not perfect cuts, so make sure you do it and save yourself the hassle.
Only slight issues I’d mention are that I had to replace the riving knife bolt as I overtightened it out of the box and it burst the thread really easily. Bit of a nightmare to get it out and replace, and burst really easily.
Secondly, a lot of sawdust ends up on the floor. I have a pretty good shop vac, and that doesn’t stop this from happening. I will probably attempt a DIY solution going forward to stop this, but it would have been good if it was better to begin with.
Third point would be that the faceplate that comes with it is plastic and bends with any pressure on it, which can lead to imperfect cuts at times. I have made my own zero clearance faceplate out of solid wood which took a bit of time and effort, but was well worth it. It would be good if evolution offered alternative products to purchase to replace the plastic one.
All of that aside, the saw has more than surpassed my expectations, and I’d really recommend it to anyone else just starting out on their woodworking hobby journey, as it does everything you could need to do, and the portability is excellent if you don’t yet have a dedicated woodworking shop.
great saw just take your time putting it together everything is good and well made
Nothing to dislike. I’m pleased with all aspects of this table saw. Easy to move about, fold up and use.
My item came today thank you I have put my item together today so easy to do than you
Generally works nice. The only issues I found are about the precise placement. The clamping stuff moves with these brackets, and they are slightly flimsy, so it’s hard to set the angle exactly, it wobbles a couple of degrees back and forth. And the same for the limiting clamp (not sure what the real name is, the big one, acting as a 90 degree wall across the entire table) – there’s no alignemt between the two ends, so it might be not completely parallel to the saw blade.
Otherwise all works cool.
very good wood of lite the stand pot to gever wood have more if it had
Firstly the people who are having major issues assembling the legs probably shouldn’t use a table saw. I assembled the legs in about half an hour using only the instructions, i found it very easy and straightforward, referencing the assembled images on the box helps also.
If people are not practical enough to be able to assemble this saw then they’re really not practical enough to use one of the most dangerous workshop tools in my opinion.
It’s worth setting aside a couple of hours to get the saw all perfectly dialled in before a first cut is made. Checks for alignment should be made. Align the blade to the fixed right hand side (rhs) mitre slot, align the left sliding mitre slot to the fixed rhs mitre slot, align the fence to the fixed rhs mitre slot. Ensure blade hits a perfect 90. Ensure fence measurement markings are zero’d.
There are various screws and adjustments on the table saw that allow for accurate dialing in.
My first cuts were made to test the saw for square, i cut some white oak with ease and managed to mill an out of square workpiece to perfectly square, verified by my engineers square. The blade is also fantastic, the oak showed no burn or blade marks.
All in all this is fantastic value for money. I don’t believe there’s a better saw for the money on the market, in fact I’d say this saw is better than other brands which are 2-3 hundred pounds more expensive.
great value all round saw, would highly recommend at the price.
As a semi-professional DIY’er this is by far the best table saw I have bought. It is very accurate, versatile and feels like it will last (of course time will tell).
My only criticism was when assembling it – none of the parts were labelled and so it took considerable time to put it together so I’ve taken a couple of pics that might help. I also struggled with aligning the stand assembly as the pre-drilled holes didn’t match up etc (metal file required).
However, once assembled, you’ll not be disappointed.
Well constructed table saw made better by the flexibility of being able to be stored easily when not required.
Bought this for my hubby as his other 1 had popped. He says it’s absolutely brilliant. Was a bit tricky to put together as the instructions are to small to read but the pics are OK and my hubby like most men likes pics over instructions lol. Anyway it takes up nearly no room compared to his old one. The blade is thin and true and cuts like a hot knife through butter. Hubby says it’s better than his old one.
I read many reviews before purchasing this and was nearly put off but I am so pleased I wasn’t. I’m not a joiner or builder and I can accept that, if I were, it might well not be man enough. However, I do do DIY and small projects on various properties I own and have already found it a fantastic asset. It is so manoeuvrable and has already saved me hours of work. If I wanted a more professional saw bench then yes, I would spend a lot more money and purchase that – which, incidentally, would inevitably mean loss of flexibility. It is my opinion that if your required usage is not exceptionally high then you would struggle to find a better product for the price.
It’s accurate, easy to use and manoeuvre, stows away well ,I like evolution tools and have recommended them to all my friends.
For the money you can’t go wrong, easy to fold away. If your looking for a good mid level saw for DIY this is the one
I am pleased with this saw. It may not be a precision tool suitable for a professional cabinet maker but it’s suitable for a hobbyist like me. It cuts cleanly and can be aligned with sufficient accuracy to allow me to make functional items. It doesn’t take up much space when not in use. Yes it’s mostly made of plastic but this keeps the weight down making it easy to move.
Did a lot of research before deciding on the Rage 5s and I’m not disappointed.
Setup Instructions aren’t good but You tube has plenty of videos and that’s the way to go.
Only minor adjustments required to rail but blade was in perfect alignment out of the box.
The multipurpose blade although only used for wood has performed brilliantly (wood blades are available) you need to keep back from the blade as this doesn’t have slow start but it’s not too noisy and the blade guard works well.
The extending arms are simple and solid making sheet cutting easy, the rail is very firm and I love the sliding top.
It’s easy to fold up and down, not too heavy as you do have to lift sideways through doorways; there’s neat storage on the sides. A minor gripe is the cable not being very long. However, so far I’m a very happy bunny with my new toy.
it good machine easy to move and stir the top surface is solid
an absolutely brilliant piece of kit theres just one thing and an important thing is theres no safety cut off like my previous pintek table saw that purchased for half the price however this is a great saw. maybe evolution should step up and fix this important safety issue
Great machine! Very easy to move into position where needed. The only issue have is with the scale on the guide rail. I have not yet figure out how to line up and use the scale to set up the guide position for desired location of cut. To do this I resort to using a steel rule to position from the guide to blade. Early days though and I am sure I will eventually realise its full potential.
This product arrived much more quickly than expected, which was a wonderful surprise. It was a birthday gift for my husband, and he’s absolutely over the moon with it. It’s easy to use and easy to move.
I have been wanting to replace my old one for years and finally got the opportunity to do so.
It did need some adjustment to make the blade completely upright, using a t-square and then adjusting the clamp on the side. Evolution tools are not always accurate with their set up. There are videos explaining how to do this on you tube.
One word of warning you will need to give yourself time to put together the stand and a second pair of hands. Plus patience always helps. Evolution do offer a video online of how to put it together. Really good video making everything clear.
Used it so far for stripping the front off nail filled pallet wood that would destroy a planer. I have other evolution tools and the blades are superb. Now I can clad my shed with stripped, smooth pallet wood and then stain it.
Once again an evolution tool that’s worth its price, I have only purchased one evolution tool that I was dissatisfied with.
Been looking for a while and this one had the main feature I wanted was the rip fence solid at both the front and back with the clamp on the front. Check the dimensions between the fence and the blade are pretty accurate without much adjustment. Good value for Money
Good: pretty good table saw. Quite solid and fairly accurate. Great price. Good attachments. Sliding mitre fence a game changer – nice! Cuts like butter. Reasonably low power means it will run off my shop vacuum’s built in socket which is fantastic. Default blade pretty great.
Extends a lot (firmly) though quite wide.
Bad: WIDER THAN A DOORWAY which makes the trolley a bit crap when you then need to drag the wheels sideways.
VERY heavy which is a bit dangerous with the collapsing trolley which has some sudden heavy jump motions WATCH YOUR FINGERS! Extremely cumbersome to move.
RIP fence lock slightly too wide making set up difficult until fully locked (also oil it!).
Safety guard is worse than useless if set up as in the manual. Lock nut gets in the way. I think the design changed after printing the manual. Way too dangerous to use with small bits getting lodged in it. [later it appears lifting it fully up helps]
Removing said guard means dust extraction compromised with no plug for vac hole when guard hose not in use.
Could do with a set of cheap zero clearance inserts.
Could do with a quick safety OFF switch (no longer available on this model now)
This evolution saw is a great all round table saw for a DIY’er. The fence is a strong and accurate, the saw is not too noisy and you can accurately rip cut long lengths of wood. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is due to the flimsy side extensions which make the whole thing quite unstable for cutting larger pieces. I took them off and integrated the saw into a larger work bench which has solved that issue. The saw itself is compact and light and I would recommend buying this item.
Early days in using this saw and already it has paid for itself. I watched reviews before buying and have been impressed by its build quality. Next job is to build a sled for it which should show how well it is set up.
its light to move about cuts well wood metal did not blunt blade when cutting laminate like other saw blades and when job done fold away neat tidy
This is really good value for money ,it’s really really great machine ,I had a problem with the stop start button as the machine supplied shown a different button (emergency stop) when contact company they informed me that it was not now a requirement, however they sent me a emergency stop my Electrician quickly installed and wow fab all machines should have a quick stop button.
Very versatile, easy to set up and put away, tricky to assemble out of the box, needs to watch video firs
I’ve been using this for a couple of months now and just love it.
It gives nice clean cuts. The adjustable fence grips at both ends with a clever locking mechanism that works really will. The sliding but of the table for mitre cuts is also really useful. It extends wide enough to be able to cut reasonable sized sheet material and folds away pretty small for what it and moves around nice and easily once assembled.
A couple of points worth noting though. I used the instructions along with a YouTube video on how to put the table together as the paper instructions were not the easiest to follow. But in the end it went together just fine. It is also unbelievably heavy and difficult to carry when it is still boxed – I definitely wanted a second person to give me a hand with it – which is probably worth knowing if your need to take it up and down stairs or in and out of vehicles. However, once it is built and on the ground it is really easy to fold up, fold down and move around.
This is such a great saw. We had an old one and decided to upgrade to this one. It’s saved us so much time, it’s easy to use and easy to move around
Very impressed with this portable bench saw. Takes hardly anymore floor space then a toolbox. Easy to put together just watch the video 1st then read the instructions.
Great saw
Easy to set up and use would recommend buying the wood only blade as well
Hi. I’ve just recently bought this model which arrived today. After unpacking and making sure everything was here I opened the book to the part where you put it all together. I spent a bit of time reading and once I was sure I knew how it all went together I gathered a few tools. At this point I got into a bit of trouble, so I watched a video from Evoultion about putting it together which helped a great deal. About an hour later I had finished or so I thought, I’d managed to put one part backwards so had to go over that bit again. Please note though, Do Not Over Tighten the nuts and bolts.
Overall I found it easy enough to put this together but I do recommend you watch their video in conjuction with the book, it will help you.. I love the look and how it folds away to save room, One thing I must say is remember to adjust the height of the riving knife before cutting any wood.. Do I think this is a good buy, Simple answer is Yes. Enjoy..
