Best garden equipment I have ever purchased
It can cut up to 16mm thick growth and makes a good job of trimming shrubs, conifers , trees etc. Battery life over an hour. Not lightweight but manageable for a reasonably fit person but lighter than other pole trimmers. As usual with Flymo , good quality manufacture and handles well. I thoroughly recommend the Flymo Pole trimmer.

Corded version, very powerful , cuts well but it is heavy . As a reasonably fit 63 year old I struggled to use for more thar 30 minutes at full extension taking the top off a hedge. Having said that was able to get the job done with a few breaks.

Cable cord far to short, should really be longer, you lift the extension reel of the ground when cutting….my only fault…

    Did the job very well
This piece of equipment was easy to assemble and easy to adjust in use, both the length of the pole and the angle of the cutting blade. Inevitably, if you put a hedge trimmer on the end of a long pole, it’s going to feel heavy and rather unwieldly to use but I was expecting that and the cutting blade coped very well with a laurel hedge.

Much safer than small trimmer and ladder!
We have a 12 foot conifer hedge at the bottom of the garden. Usually I have to risk life and limb to climb ladders, stand on the shed and overreach to cut the hedge. Fed up with this, I purchased the Flymo Sabrecut. I used it yesterday and it was so much better. The reach when extended went to the top of the hedge and when adjusted to the right angle setting, cut the top of the hedge. No ladder required. It cuts easily as well as the old trimmer even up to cuttings that were 7-10mm+ thick. It plugs in and the lead is 3m – this could be touch longer which would have made to easier as would not have had to keep moving the extension lead. I would recommend this product.

Good solid unit and easy to use
Very easy to put together and easy to use, including changing the angle of the cutters. The only downside is that as the motor is at the cutter end, rather than at the handle end as with petrol units, it feels very heavy when using straight out from the body. You don’t notice it so much if using vertically on a high hedge. To be better it could use a harness and a counterweight at the handle.

Excellent cutting blade on this. I bought this for my elderly mother to help her reach taller parts of her hedges however it was far to heavy for her to operate. We kept it as it was very good quality and excellent for cutting awkward hedges also it means me having to go round more often to cut for her. Bonus for her!! If your towards your golden years this may be to heavy to operate.

Excellent hedge cutter. I’m a wheelchair user so can’t climb ladders to cut my hedges. With this cutter I can reach all the hedge, even the tops. Yes it’s got some weight but as far as cordless goes it’s one of the best I’ve used. Cuts sharply and a good battery life.

All I can say is that it is absolutely fit for purpose, beautifully constructed and excellent for ” hard to cut ” branches. To be honest, a battery version would not have been powerful enough or have as wide a gap for thicker branches. Totally disagree about using an extension chord no problem AND you can keep your feet firmly on the ground. If you need more height than this you need to get someone in to do the job. Simp!y a brilliant piece of kit!

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersPowerful, Robust and Easy to Use 👍.
A great piece of kit capable of cutting through some very thick hedges. I’d been looking for an extending hedge trimmer for a while and decided to stick to a name I knew, and I’m glad I did. It can cut through very thick branches with ease and can has a very long reach getting to the bits of hedge normally out of reach.
As other reviews state, it isn’t light! But the you have to expect this as it has a powerful motor mounted on the end. I’d say it was comparable to my standard size petrol hedge trimmer.
As I have a lot of hedge to cut I decided against the battery version as I’d be forever recharging the batteries.
I’d recommend this trimmer for anyone with large and tall hedges as you can adjust the angle of the head allowing 90 degree cuts whilst staying on the ground. No need for ladders.

    Nice
I’m somewhat comparing this to my (not telescopic) cordless Makita trimmers, which are generally very, very good, albeit more expensive. These Flymos aren’t as powerful, so don’t chew through thicker stems or volume of stems quite as well. Maybe I’ve been spoiled, but it’s annoying when you’re at your maximum reach and the trimmers don’t really cut the hedge terribly well.

The cutting length is also quite short, so “just running it over the top of the hedge” won’t actually cut all of it (you’ll need another run from the other side, and maybe some tidy ups to get it all). Somewhat due to the nature of telescopic trimmers, the weight is quite hard to manage, although I didn’t find this too heavy, it does get a bit much after a while. The weight isn’t balanced, so you’re constantly having to hold them up (again, somewhat the nature of the beast), but as I say, gets a bit tiresome.

In use, there aren’t too many interlocks, so it’s easy to get going pretty quickly. The height and angle adjustments are easy enough to use too. I think I’d prefer a sort of clip for the height adjuster rather than a sort of twist to hold, but it’s fine either way. Getting the battery on and off is easy, and the blades have a decent plastic cover.

The battery takes hours to charge fully, so if you’ve just bought it, or used it all, then put the battery on charge, tidy up the trimmings, have lunch, possibly take the trimmings to the dump and then come back for a bit more. A ‘quick half hour’ charge will give you a few extra minutes if you’re close to finishing though. The trimmers slow down a bit as the battery gets close to empty, so it gives you some warning of your impending break time (contrast to the Makitas that somehow keep going and then then just stop completely – but only take 20-30 minutes to charge fully). The battery charger is basically a ‘wall wart’ with a cable, so it’s about as cheap as they come, so I wasn’t expecting much ‘fast charge’ capability.

All in all, they’re not going to be the only trimmers you’ll want to use around your garden, but they are very competent, especially for the price.

Great hedge trimmer but a little heavy
So the good is that this took me all of 2 minutes to put together. I love the extension built in and the battery charger being just a small cable affair is a nice touch too. Equally the blade adjustability is fantastic, you can get the right angle to make your life as easy as possible.

The protective cover on the blades is a bit fiddly and I don’t think it will last.

The bad is how heavy this is. I wish it was lighter if you aren’t quite strong holding this up for more than 15 minutes is a bit of a struggle. This is a shame as the whole device is well built and the battery lasts a long time.

In fact, on the battery, I love that it has its own indicator, showing the battery level at the touch of a button – a nice touch.

As hedge trimmers go this is a good one, and should allow you to trim hedges that are actually very high up – I could manage up to 3.5 meters.

So yes, this is a good hedge trimmer, but its sheer weight is what holds me back from giving it a full five stars.

Great for those high or wide hedges
This is a very good product if like us you have a property completely surrounded by leylandi hedges , ours are about 6-8ft high and 3 ft deep and this long arm is great as we dont need to get the ladders out .It coped well cutting them with ease and the joy of no wired restrictions . The run time was good for a battery operated cutter and although it wouldnt cut all the hedge in one charge there is always the option of extra batteries if I want to purchase some or as we do cut one section on one day making the whole job that much easier,
The one thing that stood out for me though was how much less noise these make during use than my old cutters, I wouldny=t need ear protecters when using these

    Lightweight and very long-lasting battery!
This is a great hedge trimmer. I have previously used a corded extendable trimmer which formed a useful comparison. This is much better!

Out of the box, I was delighted to notice that although it’s branded Flymo, it’s actually got a makers label of Husqvarna which I recognise as a decent brand of garden tools.

It is very easy to put together – simply slide the extendable part into a locking collar (which stays locked up – there is a different screw collar for adjusting the extendable length). The battery didn’t take too long to achieve a full charge and has a useful set of indicator LEDs to see how much power left. The whole thing is very lightweight – I did have concerns that it’s lightweightiness might equate to bad performance but I was wrong. Exceedingly sharp blades easily took Ivy, Hawthorn and a well-established Bay Tree in their stride. The adjustable angle on the head is useful for rounding tops off and is easy to use – press in the buttons on the side and over it goes. Because it is a slightly heavy head, be warned – it tends to flip over by itself without much control. The extendable pole is as easy as unlocking a screw collar and sliding the length of the pole out and re-screwing the collar.

I spent an hour in the garden using this for quite some time (while clearing up in between) and it hasn’t even gone down one LED on the battery.

My only slight concern was laying it down on the floor in the extended position – it gets a bit of a bow in the pole! I got in the habit of shortening it before placing it down on the ground while clearing up.

The reason it’s better than a corded one is that it gives you much more freedom to move!

Does what it says on the tin!
I got this for my husband, we have some conifers that need taking down. The 18 volt battery charges in a couple of hours and see got an hour’s full power. Charging the battery is simple enough. The hedge trimmer is about 2 and a half metres in lengrth, maybe a bit more. It slides together for easy assembly. It’s lightweight as trimmers go, but could be unwieldy until your used to it. The weight of the battery does counteract this a bit. It did what was required, for our biggest tree though, might have to get a chainsaw in. Yes, it is expensive but it’s a good brand and we have had no problems so far.

Does what it’s supposed to do outstandingly well.
    This does what it says it will do outstandingly well;
    Pro’s;
Lightweight compared to others, very easy to handle.
Runs for ages on a charge, approx 45 to 55 mins
Cuts through everything up to about 8mm thick.
    Nice long reach
    Excellent price.
Packs away to a very neat size.
    Cons; none really, but one should consider;
When at it’s full extension it will make your arms ache after a while, but they all will..
Don’t expect it to easily munch through thick 15/16mm branches of trees, it won’t and it isn’t made for that.
Keep the blades oiled with a very thin oil, it will stay sharp longer.
In short, it does what it was made for extremely well and I am very happy I bought it.
I was paying 50 a throw to have my 12 foot Pom-Pom tree trimmed twice yearly, I did it myself with this in 20 minutes, so I will be in pocket after a year.

    Great product and well made
Battery lasted at least 50 mins – able to cut most of our hedges before it drained, and we have a large garden! Its not the most powerful of machines so struggles on anything too thick but for trimming and tidying hedging its ideal. No cables makes it safe and lot less hassle. The extension on this is impressive – cuts at a great height / distance no problem. All in all a great piece of kit to own.

I use this cutter to prune my conifers, I have had trouble reaching them for some years esp at the top where they are very wide, but this extends and reaches right over and cuts through them no trouble at all. The only problem I had was that the battery didn’t last very long about 50 mins so I checked the Flymo site and you can get a spare one for 60 and a charger for 20 which I thought was very expensive so I came onto amazon again and purchased a flymo easi cut cordless 420 battery hedge trimmer for 70 and that has the same 18v battery and also another charger and is very useful for close up work at the top of your ladder. So now I can interchange the batteries or use both seperatly problem solved. Highly recomended

    It's a winne
I got this one free through the AMAZON vine scheme in exchange for an honest review so I wanted to use it a few times before commenting as follows.
My garden is surrounded by a 6 foot conifer hedge and containes several tall ornamental bushes. Previously using my cord trimmer keeping hedges and bushes under controll was a time consuming task involving steps and a lot of streatching. This Flymo Sabre Cut has eliminated all that and reduced cutting time significantly. As the cutting head can be adjusted from zero to ninety degrees I can effortlessly cut the top of the 6 foot hedges then trim the sides. The telescopic handle extends even further if ever needed. Being a corded tool it has the power to easily cuts through most branches.
One small, perhaps important to some, negative comment: although not as heavy as some I have tried, it is fairly heavy and after prolonged cutting a bit of a strain on my 74 year old arms and back. If comparing , go for the lightest model that otherwise meets your requirements.
A very good product from an established manufacturer at a keen price.

Golden Review Award: 26 From Our UsersJust what I needed
Product exactly as described and half the weight of some other cordless hedge cutters. Used it for the first time today, it worked perfectly and the huge hedge I have here now looks great. If it helps, it’s what I’d describe as a ‘light cutter’, which will be great at keeping the hedge looking tidy and trim if used perhaps 6 weekly. I don’t think it would be able to cope with the ‘first cut’ of the year but I may be wrong. No problem with charging the battery, I used the cutter for just about an hour this morning and it kept on going. Re-charging this afternoon took a little over 3 hours. I’ve arthritis in both hands and spent a long time looking at all the models/makes available for ease of use and weight and I’m really pleased I chose this one.

Update 10 Oct 17: Now three months using this machine, I made the right decision in buying it and feel very happy after making the last cut of the year today. I’ve a monster privet hedge here which stands at around 10 feet high and in length, possibly around 100 feet. The cutter coped admirably, the hedge looks great BUT I feel sure only because I’ve been using it to trim every 4 weeks or so. As I mentioned in my initial review, it will never be able to cope with the first cut of the year. I’m OK with that though because after that is done by an external contractor in the spring of 2018, I will continue trimming monthly. The battery still takes around 3 or 4 hours to charge which allows me to use the machine for about one hour.

    Hedge trimmer rather than Cutter...
This replaced a previous Flymo model where the batteries had died after a number of years. The cost of replacing the batteries was only marginally less than replacing the entire cutter – hence the purchase.

Most of the important points have been covered by previous reviewers. As someone has already noted, this is more a trimmer than a cutter and on that basis performs well. However, it is no match for the previous model which was much more robust and able to cut through thicker growth. Apart from this limitation, it is certainly easier to use than the previous model where the (very heavy) batteries were contained in a separate pouch slung over the should in a canvas carrier.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersGreat piece of ki
Very pleased with this. I was a bit wary of some reviews but this is a good product. All these trimmers are heavy due to a motor and long blade at one end, but the battery counterbalances it. I am of average build, but I could see how some ladies would struggle after a while. Keeping it vertical helps. The battery kept going for 1 hour without going flat and I was cutting a mixture of hedge and bushes with branches up to 12mm. Great tool.

Battery seems to last ages, the only downside for me is that it is heavier than expected.

    Brilliant!
Absolutely brilliant lasts well, cuts well, just what I needed. Job done in record time. Delivery poor but that’s nothing to do with product. Flymo always reliable. Yes does become heavy but don’t they all? Use in small goes. Really happy with this.

I did some research and this is one of the lighter ones so glad I chose the flymo
I bought this for my 86 year old father who loves his garden and is still very fit . He loves it although did say it’s a bit heavy but if younger wouldn’t notice it as much. It’s 30min battery life is long enough for what he needs it for and said couldn’t use it for longer in one hit anyway due the to the weight. I did some research and this is one of the lighter ones so glad I chose the flymo. Pleased with the purchase.

Easy to use and does what it says.
So far only used once. Seems to cut ok and the ability to extend and angle the cutting blade to nearly 90 degrees makes it ideal for my tall boundary hedges. The max cutting with of 16mm is a little bit restrictive, but OK for a quick trim of the hedges. Not too heavy, although you wouldn’t want to hold it up for hours – not that the battery would let you do that anyway. Easy to assemble and split for storage. A recomended product for the amateur.

Golden Review Award: 80 From Our UsersPretty much what I was looking for. Good price. Good product. Easy to use.
This item end to end is 2.45metres long. My Goat Willow is taller than any hedge/tree I have to cut at the top, and with a ladder (as it’s wide at the top), I can reach it all.

I’ve read reviews from people saying it’s heavy. All of these types of tools are heavy. At one end you have a battery about the size of a laptop battery. At the other end is the metal of the cutters and the motor. And fully extended, all these products will feel ‘top heavy’.

It’s really easy to use. Unlike in a video I saw where you have to squeeze one thing, then the button at the top followed by the trigger, with this you don’t. One top slider to click, and then the trigger. But you can then let go of the slider. So you are “controlling” the device with one hand, and the other is free to support it.

I find the means to extend and contract pretty easy. Smooth in fact.

The head can be moved fairly easily with big buttons, and it can be moved to some significantly free-to-use positions. ie. not just 45 degrees etc. Virtually limitless.

It is delivered in a box box, and you just slide it together. It comes apart with a big plastic bolt and just unhook it. So good to store in smallish places. Corner of a small shed etc.

My only negative is that the cutter doesn’t feel to be “really gunning” it, like my electric Flymo hedge cutter does. However, it’s done all the work of my goat willow. I needed to take a few breaks, because it does ache the supporting arm quite a bit. But you can reach out, move the cutter and I have a very nice result. And now I can do it all without needing to go next door. They can do their own side! Mine, and the top look just right. And being cordless, I can trim bits at height (without the ladder) without having to get out the extension.

I saw some for 69, but didn’t come with Amazon’s support. And others for well over 100. So I feel this price is good. Would cost me 65 to have my tree cut professionally (had it done last year), so doing it myself will pay for itself inside a year (as it grows about a foot in a week on many top branches).

Reason for four stars and not five – I wish it would cut thru the branches with a bit more “umph”. Maybe that’s down tot he Volts. I don’t know. But it’s done the job!

Flymo SabreCut XT Cordless hedge cutter .
I ordered this one to complement the one I had which is wired and non-extendable.
I ordered this Flymo few days ago and it was delivered the next day nicely packaged inside a beautiful box which I am going to keep for safe storing.
As soon as I received it I opened it to try it.
It did the job completely as I could reach the highest hedges in my front and back gardens .
The weather didn’t help but I will try it again hopefully very soon .
Very good product, highly recommended and cheap compared to other machines.

The battery powered feature is a great advantage since::(1) it avoids the dangers of cutting power cables and :(2) it has the versatility to allow me to use the cutter all around my garden . I would have preferred the telescopic pole to be one or two feet longer. This unit can be used for over one hour of cutting on one charge. However,,this is long enough for me as the unit is quite heavy. The construction looks good and sturdy. Overall, considering the price, a good buy.. .

This machine cannot be dismantled once fitted together, makes storage very awkward and you are not able to return in the package it was sold in.I have emailed the makers with my thoughts about this. Makers now have come back saying it will part so used a spray of WD40 and a bit of pulling by2 people and it came apart so now I am happy with this produc

    Tangle free topiary
all +ve: easy to use, no tangling cable, excellent value at this price.

By design this type of cutter is top-heavy when extended, but if kept vertical while you shuffle sideways I found it less of a pull on the old arms. On larger hedges a 2nd person to give directions can be useful as you can’t see taller hedge tops ………
