Best Metal detector out there….picks up anything and everything once you learn how to use it.
Perfect gift to aid losing your other half for most of the day 😉 he absolutely loves it so much! Works like a dream, we’ve even discovered a bullet in our garden!! Great product, loads of extras! Happy man!

WHAT A MACHINE TALK ABOUT PICKING EVERYTHING UP FOUND COINS ON MY FIRST VISIT IN MY GARDEN RECOMMEND THIS MACHINE
Functions well and is easy to use. The quality of the machine seems sturdy and well put togethe
I got given the “professional metal detector” from maplins a few months ago. I enjoyed going metal detecting so wanted an upgrade. I’m no expert so will just compare the two. The ace 250 feels very sturdy where as my other one feels flimsy. The displays are similar, although again the ace 250 is better quality.
I suppose the most important thing is how it works and on my first time out with this machine I found a silver sixpence

Bought to find a lost ring, and found it within 10 minutes. Excelle

Spot on love it, hooked easy to use and understand digging up 220 year old coins really worth the purchase very pleased.
The Garret Ace 250 Metal Detector was easy to assemble and was working straight away, it is light to carry in operation and was quickly finding metal objects.
I haven’t found anything important as yet but I will keep trying and the Garret 250 Ace is still working great.
The Garrett Ace 250 is a great entry level detector, it works well and they hold their own in the market. The Garrett range are easy to assemble, easy to use and the 250 also has a decent range, I have located coins at a depth of around 9 to 10 inches.
If you are considering taking up the hobby you won’t go wrong with a Garrett.
I would also recommend a Garrett pinpointer, this is an expensive item but it’s something you really can’t do without. There are numerous user review videos on the Internet, go check them out.
I have used the Garrett 250 for the past 6 years and it’s still going strong.

I am undecided if this thing really works. I get lots of false signals everywhere I search, but I did find a nail and part of an old rusted can during my first outing in my back yard. My property boundary marker pins are no longer visible above the ground, but I located them. The target pin-pointer and the metal discriminator features are helpful. The manufacturer recommends using the detector for a year before passing judgment on it’s performance. I guess I need more practice!
UPDATE:
After using this metal detector for several months, I have a better understanding of it’s capability. An important key to this understanding is learning to decipher the meaning of the different sounds it produces and how they relate to the type of target located. A deep pitch tone usually indicates an iron (junk)target, a medium pitch tone may indicate gold, silver, brass or copper while a rapid bell-ringing sound may indicate the target is a U.S. coin. I continue my 4 star rating because there is no volume control and the sounds emitted are annoyingly too loud for my hearing level. The pinpoint feature works well, but the artifact depth indication is usually inaccurate. Overall, this detector does a great job of locating artifacts.
fantastic starter metal detector. found quite a few coins using it. only issue is the pinpoint button needs to be pressed a couple of times before it works properly but not such a big issue. i would suggest buying a pinpointer separately instead of sifting through all of the dirt lol

Meets all what I want in metal detecting an excellent bit of ki
he most boring metal detecto
he most boring metal detector but effective, if you aim is to find metal it does the job
I don’t think you canbeat a Garrett Metal Detector, well made and used by several people in the Metal detection clubs.

Husbands toy
This was purchased as a joke present for my newly retired husband who always said he waned to have a go. He has used it, but finds it a bit bulky and unwieldy to use
Nail seeke
Excellent kit. Bought it to find nails in new gravel drive. Found 21. No punctures makes it well worth the cost.
Easy to use
Having never used one before I found the instructions clear and easy to follow and the detector operated as advertised.
I had an old Viking model and decided to upgrade, could not afford some of the more expensive models but this one is great, it takes a bit of getting used to but when you do it is well worth the money, my old model worked on dials and at first I found I was touching buttons by mistake and knocking out things I didnt mean to but I am getting better all the time and getting used to the different sounds.
Great Machine

Really Impressed
I bought this as a Birthday present for my Husband and he was over the moon with it. Have taken it out numerous times and been really impressed. We haven’t found a hoard of treasure yet but will keep trying!

Being new to the hobby of metal detecting, I was expecting a steep learning curve with the detector. By the time the ACE 250 arrived, I had watched over 2 hours of on-line video and read one book on the subject. Here is what I found out:
1. Setup is super easy. Only small issue is fitting the rubber seals that act as a friction clutch into the races on either side of the coil. It is a very tight fit and the seals may rip a small bit. Order several to keep as spares…only cost pennies.
2. Detector is very light. Almost comically light. Both me and my wife are able to use it for hours without arm strain or fatigue.
3. Using this detector is extremely intuitive. Garrett has definitely invested time in engineering and provided an easy to use button layout and an easy to understand display.
4. Comfortable arm rest.
5. Very sensitive detector. Stock coil is sweet. Detects easily to 6~8 inches, deeper in optimal soil conditions.
Within minutes of use in my backyard, I uncovered 5 rusty nails. Each target that I located was easily uncovered and target depth was close to where the detector indicated.
With these things being said, it will be important to understand what your machine is telling you. In clay soil, I found that I need to turn sensitivity down to 50% or I get false signals. This is not a bad thing, just means that the device is sensitive to minerals in the soil.
I have found that in loose soil and sand, this machine will find large targets as deep as 12″ with the stock coil. I have found several pennies, can tabs, and foil easily in dense clay soil at 8″. Color me impressed.
There are a few things that I wish could be better, but, these are very small things (maybe nit picking), and some are most likely universal to all metal detectors to some degree.
1. Better iron discrimination. In clay soil, this machine will ping at very small mineral deposits. Even with iron notched out, you will need to lower sensitivity to get past iron signals.
2. If you are taller than 6’2″ you will need a longer shaft or you will be hunched over.
That’s it for the cons. Overall an excellent first detector or back up. Light and fun to use. Excellent battery life (7 hours of use so far and still have 75% of battery life remaining). As with any detector, you need to understand its limits and understand the meaning of the data that it provides.
In closing, just a few things. This detector will open a window on a hobby that is fun for the whole family. Once I have mastered this device, my next detector will definitely be purchased from Garrett.
Lastly, don’t expect to find valuable coins and relics the first time you use the detector. Keep your expectations low for what you will find and you will never be disappointed…enjoy the hunt. With time invested in researching, you will be rewarded.
fantastic value for money ,does all it says and more ,finds to date are mostly modern currency with a few Victorian ,not a lot of junk detected ,advise reading instructions and learn all you can ,more fun guaranteed ,one coin was 10 inches deep !!!!
very pleased hopefuly find something good when i use it at skegness have had cheap ones can tell the difference with this one
his is a great product my son loves it and his friends they have been finding all different types of metal from the past they have had alot of enjoyment out i
well worth the money books thrown I as a free extra very fast delivery time would recommend this product to anyone who is interested in metal detecting good all round produ
After reading reviews went for the 250 very good nice extras. Brought for dad who loves it. In first 20 mins found a metal hinge and old nails . More stuff followed pin pointer good idea but alittle hard to hear. Overall very pleased.

Was delivered promptly. Everything expected was included. Still working through the instructions before using it. Seems very well made and sturdy.
I chose this metal detector because of price looks and easy use and I give it 5 out of 5 . and I would recommend it any one . Looking forward ot finding treasure waiting for me
Ideal entry level+ detector. Glad I bought one with a pinpointing function as I can dig much smaller holes. A metal detector won’t find gold that’s not there but some folk expect it to be a magic wand. Best advice I got was that it takes 100 hours to fully understand your detector but you still find stuff from the outset and this machine is easy to use. You should check to see if the deal on offer includes headphones and, if it doesn’t, you just need to buy basic standard ones, ideally with a coiled cable, a volume control and earpieces that won’t slip when you move about and/or wear a hood.

This is a fun gadget. It’s well made and delivers performance as promised. The kids and I enjoy combing the beach for lost treasure, but at 5 and 7 years old, their attention span is still limited. It’s a little large for my 7 year old, so I ended up holding it most of the time, while the kids dug where we heard tones.
The indicators on this unit are easy to read, and the instructions are easy to follow. The weight is comfortable, and overall, we really like this little detector. We’re not diehard treasure seekers though, and after awhile will abandon the search in favor of building sand castles. I bought this unit for the quality build, as I imagine the kids’ interest will increase as they get a bit older. Can’t stand cheap toy units that don’t offer much success in locating anything. This Garret located coins just fine, as well as some other metallic items. I chose this unit because it detects coins easily (making it easier for the kids to use). Cheaper units I’ve had often gave false positives, which made the whole effort quite boring after awhile. It was exciting for them to find some lost jewelry and coins on the beach, which made it all worthwhile. If you really get into treasure hunting, spring for the wand as well. It’s save you all kinds of time and frustration.
Have been using this detector for the best part of 3 years now and although there are better machines out there for its price its great. So easy to use and only takes a matter of minutes to put together. Have considered switching detectors in the past but i feel that the most important thing about metal detecting is knowing your machine. Even with the standard coil this machine comes with you will still find like 95 percent of the things other machines would. The only other thing id suggest doing would be to buy a bigger coil to get an extra inch or two extra detecting depth. For an entry to mid level machine this is a must.

My husband bought this to replace a cheaper detector, and he loves this. He’s gone over ground he’s previously done and found more coins so he’s delighted.
Sorry non’t no at this time it so a gift and I will not no I till the end of November thank you Patrick
Very happy with this purchase, have Sussex it out with the help of the DVD,very informative, just need to find a club to join now.
Sometimes you can “feel” the extra care a company puts into its products, and the Ace 250 brings a lot of that feeling on. The fit and finish are great, it is extremely lightweight, assembly is super quick and requires no tools, and even the batteries are pre-installed. These are all signs of a well-thought-out tool, not just a toy or a careless next generation iteration of an existing technology.
Pull a few pieces from the box, press two rubber washers in place (friction washers for the coil pivot), screw together one plastic bolt (plastic, since by coil and don’t want metal!), and screw on the coil cable connector. Then press PWR and you are ready to go!
But better yet, watch the very professional video on how to use the Ace first. It isn’t full of amazing surprise finds with cheesy actors, rather, it is very much like a military training video, with a professional voice talent carefully enumerating the features and functions of the Ace while the viewer sees a man demonstrate each step or method at what seems to be a public park. I can’t tell you how wonderfully straightforward and “clean” this video is, but I suspect the quality comes from Garret’s experience with training videos for commercial/industrial products. And the video is specifically for the Ace 250. Also, watch the pin-pointer video; once you get into the field I think you’ll quickly see the usefulness of the handheld pin-pointer, I know I’m planning on getting one.
As for features, this machine seems to do everything I imagined doing with it and should run over 20 hours on four AA batteries, which makes more sense to me than two 9V batteries like many detectors use. It also has its own speaker, so you don’t have to have headphones…you’ll likely want headphones with their own volume control, though, but if the speaker is too loud at a public place (or just annoying the rest of the family) you can cover the speaker holes with some tape to muffle the sound. The machine shows type of metal and depth. It lets you set custom detection profiles and sensitivity. It even keeps its memory and settings when turned off, which is important because you’ll want to turn it off each time you stop to dig. A “custom profile” is essentially a filter that instructs the machine about what kinds of metals should trigger a sound alert–the display will always indicate any find.
Perhaps the best feature of all is the pinpointing. While it doesn’t serve the same way as a handheld pin-pointer would during the actual dig, it is invaluable for locating where to dig. Watch the video for instructions, but note that along with the X technique you can also press the pin-point button and do a fine scanning of the small area with the find to get a mental image of the detection circle around the object–your mind will “see” a disc that is “bright” (loud) at the center and fades off at the edges. You can also use a spiral motion you let “decay” into a simple circle and when you can make a circle with the detector’s coil that has a perfectly even pin-pointing tone you know that the object is dead center of this circle. Scanning, especially, can be useful for larger, irregularly shaped objects, because your mind is forming a fuzzy image of the object’s shape…just don’t dig for a buried cable!
As for the function of the machine, I could not have imagined it to be this good. It tells you pretty much exactly what is down there and how for down it is. The video says it can take 100 hours to become proficient at picking up on the sounds and indicators, but the truth is after only about 2 hours you’ll already be growing a “third eye” for what lies beneath.
For example, you quickly come to recognize that short, nearly “phantom” blips are foil wrappers, that having two finds very near one another is not that uncommon, and that large iron objects (say, an old drain cover) may sound like coin-iron-coin rather than just a lot of iron.
One thing that is under-emphasized is that detecting is really about digging, or at least scraping. Doing this in a way that doesn’t mess up grass, etc., is mentioning in the video, but if you have to travel to get to where you are detecting, be sure to have along a small planting trowel, some sort of dully pointed metal rod for a probe, a heavy nylon brush, a lighter-weight nylon brush, and a jug of water. You’ll quickly see why.
does what it says on the box, not got my head around the tones but hours of fun. Need a trowell
First off, I am an archer, not a detecting enthusiast. This is my first detector. I selected it because the bad reviews seemed to be mainly circumstantial, and there were tons of good reviews to offset them. Plus, Garrett’s customer service has been touted as being very solicitous, though I’m happy to say I have not yet had occasion to contact them.
This detector was easy for me, a complete newbie, to figure out and use. I watched the orientation video, read the manual, perused a bit through the forums online, and had no trouble at all assembling and using the machine. I don’t use headphones, so as other reviewers complain, it’s loud, but not all that bothersome to me. I tested it in the yard the first day, and found bits of random junk, which I was expecting. This is a ruralish farmhouse. I was pleased with how accurate I was able to get in pinpointing and digging, relatively quickly. I was ready to try it on arrows.
I had lost an aluminum arrow at a friend’s a couple weeks before, and when I got a chance, I went over with the Ace. Found it within five minutes even though we had not known quite where it had struck. I still had misgivings, though. It’s natural that a long thin piece of aluminum less than an inch below ground should be easy to detect. Most of my arrows are carbon with steel points.
The follow-up occurred at another friend’s home. I had lent my archery equipment, and a couple of my arrows had gotten lost. I was shown the area, which was at least 5000 square feet, and was told that they could be anywhere, pretty much. Great. However, setting the sensitivity very low and setting discrimination to only iron led to only a few hits. I used a Propointer to do the fine pinpointing, and found five pieces of junk, then one arrow, then the other arrow. The entire process took barely more than half an hour, and it will probably be less next time.
I am very happy with this detector, and would recommend it to anyone.
The Garrett 250 Ace is light and very easy to use, superb for a new starter to metal detecting, bought a c-scope many years ago this Garrett is half the weight, a nice piece of kit.
Worth every penny, highly recomendable, cant wait to get out and use it,everybody should have one and dig up the past grea
As previous reviewers have noted, it is worth looking at all the possible combinations of features, prices etc. of metal detectors and deciding on what best suits your needs and price range. The Garrett Ace 250 was the best option for me and I do not regret my purchase. It has many features that others in the same price range don’t have, so I thoroughly recommend this metal detector. It is worth spending the extra 50 on top of the price of the Ace 150, though I imagine that would be a good choice if you cannot afford the extra for Ace 250. It has a great object/metal find range and good depth range also.
My only worry is the coil cover, once I got the thing on it took me 15 mins to get back off again, it was a very tight fit and stuck like glue to the coil, I struggled to remove it without breaking the Coil. I won’t be putting it back on again, I’ll just use a home-made cover.
That said, I don’t want to put anyone off buying the Ace 250, it’s a great detector.

Great detector for learning the ropes and get hang on hobby. I would definitely recommend to a friend. DVD and books that came with detector were really useful
Ace 250 Review
Very quick delivery, the wrapping and condition of the package was excellent. lots of little extras thrown in earphones coin books and batteries already installed to ensure the kit had been tested before it left the distributor…would recommend these guys.
Just terrific
Have only had the detector for a couple of weeks and have nothing but praise for it, Have only used it on the pebble beach-found nothing of value but its been so useful as a learning curve. Does just what I expected
Bought the Ace 250 after reading the reviews on Amazon. Detector arrived in good time and very well packed. Simple to put together . Came with 2 free books and headphones. Instructions easy to follow with the instructional DVD. Only been out 3 times so far and find the Ace 250 easy to use . As the instructions say you need to practice to learn what the different sounds mean .I was surprised how sensitive it is detecting very small objects. On my first try I was confused by a very strong signal over a large area so I started digging only to unearth a 2 foot diameter cat iron cattle feeding trough , too heavy to move !! No gold yet, best so far is 26p but I live in hope.
Buy this one with confidence. You can spend a lot more on other models but for a hobby this one is great.

This machine has everything a beginner to the hobby needs in a metal detector. As an added bonus, it is very easy to buy more advanced coils to fit it, making it usable for even advanced detectorists.
I have been thinking of getting a metal detector for sometime and I am glad I did great fun and for the money this is a good starte
Takes a while to get used to the controls; watch the dvd, but it makes sense after a while. Very sensitive, but I’ve found nothing yet, except tin cans. Looking forward to better weather.
I took this detector out for the first time today in the woods. I was very impressed. I am a beginner at this, but it was very easy to get the hang of. From my experience, it was spot-on accurate with regards to the pin-pointer function and the depth indicator. Even though I only found some old shotgun cases and some obscure bits of metal, I was still chuffed with the results. Can’t wait to get out there again, when the ground gets a bit softer!
I haven’t found a lot yet. But that is completely to blame on myself. The detector works great! hours and hours of search and dig fun guaranteed!
Due to the recent bad weather I have not had much chance of using the metal detector. However, I tried it out in the back garden and it is light, easy to use and gave me a ‘real buzz’. I would recommend this to anyone interested in metal detecting.
Present for husband who thinks it is great. Had a go in the garden with it and is looking forwards to using it extensively once he has recovered from his heart attack. Recomend to anyone.
Great fun!
Easy to use, light and comfortable, finds loads of metal and, once you get used to the controls will tell you what type is below the surface, not just sure about the depth accuracy, but so far an excellent produc
OK, part of the reason I went with this is that most of the security metal detector wands I see are made by this company. I knew it had a reputation for quality among the “pros” who need a reliable detector. I will also add that Garrett has really good customer service, which means you won’t be stuck with something that won’t work after a month or so. Service is good before and after the sale.
I chose this specific model since it came recommended in the metal detector boards. Garrett has a video where you can see this unit in action (as well as their other units). After having used it for a while, I am happy with my choice of this unit. It will grow with you if you want to get more adventurous–short of seriously metal detecting under water!
The Ace 250 was a fairly easy set up. In fact, it took about five minutes without really consulting the manual. But, I am pretty good at electronics!
Still, you don’t need to be an electronics genius to figure this out since it is basically attaching the searchcoil to the unit and then the cable to the control housing. That last part is pretty idiot proof too!
The batteries were in the unit.
The unit is also pretty intuitive to use. The unit also comes with a DVD on how to use it (in addition to the manual–which you can find online).
OK, the unit is really good for the price point. I have to say that you should hold off on buying any headphones to use with this until after you’ve used it for a while. I found the unit was loud enough for me without headphones. It was too loud with headphones.
One accessory that you should seriously consider is the Garrett Metal Detector Coverup for using the detector in bad weather. The detectors aren’t weatherproof and that will help it last longer.
On the other hand, getting down to the treasure hunting…
Well, that’s more up to you, and your luck! And where you happen to live (or treasure hunt).
Not many people find things like the Crosby Garrett Helmet and the hoard of Anglo-Saxon found by Terry Herbert.
But, there’s always hope!
Enjoy this detector.
BTW, there are more uses for these things than just looking for buried treasure. I bought it to hunt for some lost items.
And to try treasure hunting.
This is the first detector I have bought but it’s fantastic. Good value, and excellent quality. It’s a breeze to set up but do follow the instructions ref winding the coil cable correctly. Found loads of interesting stuff and it’s super accurate. Bit annoying having the USA coins on it but it is an American product. Take time reading how to use it before you jump out in the Garden. Got mine from Detectors Direct who were great to deal with and super fast. I would recommend getting the coil protector. The headphones are good but a pain when you keep putting the detector down to dig. Just wish it had a volume control which is the only reason I have given it 4 stars not 5.

This little detector is great and easy to use. I took it out the first day I received it and found some metal junk in my backyard so decided to take it to a nearby kid’s playground. I managed to find some buried aluminum cans, pieces of wire and also some coins (quarter, dime and two pennies). I was using the all metal mode as suggested by Garrett so I could get accustomed to the tones and sounds associated with each piece of metal. Now everything went well that first day but the problem began the second day when I took it out to the beach. I was excited ready to go and then I turned it on and started to search. Now, it was somewhat cold that day (lower 50s) so I thought that maybe that the sensitivity bar not showing up was because of the temperature, but then noticed the battery indicator was also not showing up. I thought it was simply a low battery but when I used it the previous day it indicated a full battery. Nonetheless I left the beach with nothing and decided to head home where I had some fresh AAs. Before heading home I did remove the batteries, hold down the power button to reset it, and of course turn it off and then back on. I even made sure the batteries were making sufficient contact with the terminals in the battery compartment. The LCD problem was still there. I got home and replaced the batteries with fresh ones and sure enough the missing information on the LCD screen still persisted. I also noticed that the pinpoint feature was touchy when I used it. After frustration I set it aside and then called Garrett. Sure enough there are known “LCD Problems” and they said I should send it in for repair and service. Because of Christmas I won’t be able to send it in until January. They require the yellow box unit and also coil so they can make sure it is “matched” when it is worked on and returned. I have yet to decide whether to just send it back to the seller for a refund (paid returned shipping) or send the unit to Garrett for repair. In the end I think the unit is awesome and a good value and I just got a “lemon”. The people at Garrett seem very helpful and this little hiccup won’t dissuade me from staying with this new hobby.
bought detector as a birthday gift sturdy and accurate
arrived on time lots of extras books etc
had a go with the detector myself
very happy with the produc
The family bought this metal detector for my husbands Birthday. Without reading any instructions Grandad and his little helpers had 2 finds in the first 5 minutes – great excitement from all concerned – even if it was only 2 x 2p coins. Grandad now reading the books and fine tuning in the hope of bigger finds. Very impressed with the speed of delivery and good packing – all the extra books were a real bonus.
I am sure this is going to be the start of a very interesting hobby.

I was looking for a number of months for a metal detector to get me out and about to see what i could uncover. eventually i though i had found one i read one bad review about it (no headphone jack and not adjustable stem) this put me off immediately but at the end of the bad review the chap said spend the extra money and but a garett ace 250. so i had a look and it looked great i ordered it that night it came a few days after and after a bit of messing around in the back garden i started to get used to the different sounds / settings and had a go in my mum and dads garden i found a george 3rd half penny from 1799 and a few other pre decimil coins great fun. just cant wait for some better weather and ill be out every weekend i hope. great piece of kit obviousley not highest spec but easy to use and great fun. pinpointing is very accurate and even the depth gauge which i was very sceptical about is actually really accurate.
any new starter to the hobby i would definitely recommend the garrett ace 250

I’ve used the garrett ace 250 a few times down the beach. It is really easy to use, being new to the hobby this was a god send. Basically turn it on and off you go. It is really sensitive and although I haven’t found anything of value it is still great fun to use. It doesn’t even mind wet sand you just have to turn the sensitivity down a little. I would recommend this detector to anybody considering to take up the hobby. Because for the cost you are getting a brilliant machine.

I bought a metal detector for my partner for Christmas but it was not working at all unfortunatly. So I ordered another one, going for a more expensive model (much more!) to have better chances of having a good one. It arrived on time, and it looks really great. It came in a surprisingly small box and it took us 5 minutes to set it up without looking at the instructions. We have roughly tried it in indoors with coins ans jewlery and it looks really sensitive ! It also seems solid, not like a toy as some detectors can look. The display is easy to use and the functions quite extensive. I was surprised to see the amount of documents included. There is a quick book of instructions and a DVD with 19 minutes video to explain how it works (have not watched it yet). And most surprisingly, the detector came along with a thick and hard cover book recording all the coins found in Britain ! I was really not expecting to find that surprise inside and I had ordered another such book which I have not yet received. The book from the detector box has photos and explanations for all coins to be found. Wow if that’s not a great service !
We have not tried it outside yet but I am thrilled with my purchase and hope it will make my other half happy !

This Metal Detector is superb, I found hidden metal immediately, though it is important to read the instructions if you want to find something more valuable. I was very impressed by this piece of kit and I firmly believe it will meet all my requirements for the future. I’m hooked!

As all males approaching middle-age are reknowned to do, I decided to act upon the ever-increasing urge to look for treasure. I did the right thing; checked reviews before I bought – and the Garret range kept coming up in forums as being reliable, relatively cheap and ‘productive’.
I’m sure all novice detectors have quasi-delusional visions of finding a saxon crown on their first outing. Personally, I knew I’d be happy just discovering anything from the past, regardless of size, value or importance. Basically, I wanted to dig up metal knowing there was a very slim chance of finding something valuable (btw – I haven’t found anything of true value yet – but the Garret 250 has more than paid for itself in terms of keeping me interested.
The Garret Ace 250 is really simple to use. If anything, the controls are more intuitive than the admittedley brief instructions. The different modes (All Metal, Coins, Jewellry etc.) really do make a difference; when set to coin mode I lifted several coins over the space of an hour on Polzeath beach – shame the total only came to 26 pence! When in ‘All Metal’ mode, you really get an idea of just how much metal there is below the ground. It soon gets to the point where you can get to recognize the general size, depth and even shape of the object that’s triggering the device. My first outing left roughly 50 holes in a field near my Gran’s house (which I obtained full permission to dig – this really is the key to happy hunting, anyone who is thinking of digging without permission should really think again).
Back to the machine – it’s compact when assembled, and the stem can easily be split for transport. Battery life is excellent. The only annoyance is a lack of volume control, but the machine really comes into its own with headphones that have separate volume control.
I haven’t unearthed anything that will help me retire early, but I have found a very old iron pot, old shillings, nails by the bagfull (yawn), a lot of lost change, oh and a scaffolding pole. Darned builders.
It’s a great machine, and very comfortable for lengthy sweeps of large fields or similar. You’ll soon get in tune with it. I’m hooked!
Highly sesitive in all modes,it needs a little practice to get the best from it.

I did a lot or research on Amazon and elsewhere for metal detectors. I have a 9yr son who had expressed an interest in them. His cousins, the year before, had gotten them for Christmas and he was intrigued. I’d heard later that the detectors they’d gotten gave many false positives, weren’t reliable, and became just more garage junk.
With that in mind, I looked for something that would work well for our son without getting into a professional rig.
The Garret Ace 250 metal detector is just what we were looking for. It took 4-5 minutes to help him figure out how to use it then he was off in a neighboring field happily discovering little bits of metal. The ground was hard for digging, so we’re looking forward to taking it to the beach soon.
This model is nice as it allows you to specify what types of objects it should alert to. I don’t know how well this works yet, but the pinpoint button works very well. Once you get a tone that metal has been found, you press the pinpoint button for a continuous tone that increases in volume when you’re closest to the object. Very intuitive and easy to use.
The length of the boom is adjustable and button placement is convenient for small and large hands.
All in all, we’re very satisfied with this product and looking forward to finding that ring you lost at the beach at spring break.
I bought an Ace 250 last year from Detector distribution and received a cracking service. The detector is great, easy to learn and performs very well. It uses 4 x AA batteries which last about 40 hours.

I bought this Garrett 250 Detector because I knew from experience that Garrett detectors are one of the best. This detector, and all it’s reviews and tests that I searched on my computer, were spot on.The service and delivery combined with the best and lowest price I could find on the whole of the internet were astounding and the whole Amazon experience deserves a ten out of ten rating.I bought it for my Grandaughters use and they had a wonderful time, finding coins straight away in one of our local kids playfields.Keep it up Amazon,I will certainly by again..Best regards..Brian.

Simple to use, batteries last forever, good re-sale value. Doesnt go too deep you prob wont get any deeper than 5 inches on a coin, but for a ploughed field or park this does not matter. I wouldnt bother buying this detector if you are going to use it for the beach unless you plan on detecting dry sand only. I have found 3 silver hammered coins with this detector upto 4 inches deep, I used the custom setting with the first two notches blanked out and sensitivity as high as you can get it. I have previously purchased two Ace 250’s from this seller one for 99 and one for 127 both delivered within 2 days, it is worth watching this site/seller daily as the price rises and drops along with the price of the dollar, if you see it for 99 then buy it quickly as they do sell out!

I have a couple of detectors my main one being a minelab explorer II, i had been hearing about these little 250’s for some time. My friend decided to buy one via my amazon account from discount-metal-detectors-uk, it arrived within 3 days and my friend had it set up within 30 minutes.
Its a very easy to use detector, great for people new to the hobby who may get scared off by the learning process of the higher end machines. the 250 finds stuff no problem and its pinpoint isnt bad either.
Ive just bought a second one for another friend who was impressed buy it, i will be buying a third for an xmas gift and a fourth for myself to use as a second detector.
This machine is awesome value for the price it costs!! get one now :o)

I’ve used various metal detectors off and on for many years. While I would certainly not classify myself as a hardcore-detecting hobbyist, I do try to do it properly when I participate.
One thing I have noticed is that there are a lot of metal-detecting “snobs” out there that love nothing more than telling you that while your detector is cute, it might as well be a giant turd with earphones compared to theirs! It’s weird–I like this hobby because it’s different / not mainstream, but when that stuff happens, it may as well be golf…
Anyway – I’m not into this hobby enough to spend $700 – $1500 on a detector, but I do want to get my moneys worth. There are A LOT of reviews on the web for this particular detector, and I would say that 1 in 10 were negative, with the rest being very positive. For $200, I gave it a shot. My findings:
The good:
When I received the device, I walked out into my backyard to play around a little, and immediately, with a resounding “DING”, found a penny about 4 inches deep. It seems to really like coin shooting
The discrimination and sensitivity settings work well, and the various settings (coins, all metal, jewelry, etc…) work fairly well– as far a coin shooting, the find usually is exactly what the detector says it is.
I’ve read many reviews slamming the “pinpoint” feature. Honestly, after I READ THE BOOK and played with it for a couple minutes, I found that it worked quite well.
It seems to work very well down to about 8″. It may work well beyond that… I really haven’t had the chance yet to hunt anywhere for really deep items.
It’s very light, and the display crams a lot of usefull stuff into a small area without being confusing.
If you turn it off while you’re digging, the batteries last a long, long time.
The bad:
The shaft is a bit on the flimsy side, although it is pretty easy to stabilize if you desire.
It only has a couple tones – a dull beep for trash or unknown items, and a ‘DING!’ for coins. Honestly though, after I got used to them, they were plenty.
It seems to like a slightly slower sweep than most detectors.
There is no volume knob. This used to make me mad, but now not so much. Sometimes headphones are just a drag, I wish I could turn it down.
In short:
The bottom line is this – you really need to read the book that comes with it and spend an hour getting aquainted with the device for it to really work for you. I like it, and for the money wouldn’t think twice about buying another.
