Really love my hive it works brilliantly and the installation was no fuss. It’s integrated fully to Alexa so I have multiple ways to Control the heating. My only gripe is that the engineer didn’t fix the thermostat to the wall as part of Installation. But overall extremely happy x

The product is fantastic, super easy to control via the app. The installation was easy to arrange and the British Gas engineer who came to install it was efficient and friendly and talked me through the app and how to use the product. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Having switched from another smart thermostat supplier I was already used to its features.
So far so good it does everything it should do , I also have the matching smart plug which is great for when you are away etc.
I had a complex wire system due to the old smart thermostat that was a free trial.
So I went for the installation from British Gas, I am glad I did as he removed the old switching unit and another junction box for me and installed the new control unit.
I wasn’t confident in doing it myself but if you are then great, It would seem all you need is the control box with is wired into the junction box that controls all the heating, The old room thermostat is redundant as is the old programmer ( wires clipped and taped up )
HIve -Superb!
I was reluctant to ‘tech’ up our house but absolutely love this bit of kit! We had a new boiler fitted so decided we would get one of these, so glad we did, so easy to control the heating o my phone using ‘Google Home’, if it gets really cold I can even turn the heating on from work to keep the cats warm and to warm the house up before we get home. Same with the hot water, totally easy to ‘boost’ it and turn it on or off. Highly recommend this. We have also purchased the sockets so our lamps are connected to the hive and are voice activated through Google Home.

This is the second Hive that I have purchased, as you cant move them when you move house easily. I have had no problems with Hive and the installation was done quickly and the British Gas engineer was knowledgeable and completed the installation quickly, I love that I can turn the heating on in advance of me getting home and I turned it off from Wales when I forgot and left the heating on whilst I was away over Christmas. It’s a great tool and should save you money on your bills!

Looks very nice
My sister has one of these and i was impressed with the functionality. It lost a star because the box was battered by the delivery company. Contents are ok which is the most important part however I don’t understand Amazon’s delivery/boxing method at times.

Hive + Google Home = perfect combo
Bought it to help with my laziness of changing the schedule on my old school thermostat.
In a couple of days after ordering the Hive, a British Gas engineer came to install it and in under 45 minutes it was up and running.
I’m using Hive with Google Assistant and Home, the engineer did a demo for me as well as he has his whole house full of Hive products paired with Google, and it works without a hitch.
Disappointed
The product itself was great and cannot wait
to finally use in the home. However my wife (who works for the NHS as a midwife) took a day off work in order to wait in for the pre booked (over 3 weeks prior) engineer to come in and install. At 2:30pm today my wife got a call from the engineer to say ‘he was too busy’ and would need to re schedule. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Makes me think we should have just purchased through our local electric store who could have installed the same day of potential purchase.
Long wait for fitting
Can’t rate the product as yet, Thermostat received from Amazon quickly, but British Gas couldn’t fit for 6 weeks. I made the appointment and booked a say off work, only to get a call saying they needed to re-arrange and earliest was 2 weeks later, which puts it at around 2 months. Not happy with that to be fair.

2 years on and still the best purchase I ever made!
Amazing! Had ours for about 2 years now and recently bought another for a family member. Best purchase ever!! Control heating and hot water from your mobile phone. No more coming home to a cold house! No burst or frozen pipes if your away for a few days. Also connects easily to an Alexa Dot or similar. “Alexa ask Hive to boost the heating for 30 minutes” from my bed or my chair. Laziness overload! Never had an issue. Definitely recommend professional installation which is usually included in the price (double check this). The British Gas engineer installed it all, connected it up and helped me set up my account in the app and navigate it… the manual controls and all the features too.

I paid for the installation as well, only had to wait a week, considering it was the week of Black Friday I was impressed. Really impressed with the Hive and how easy it is to control it. The British Gas Engineer was brilliant, so thorough, explained everything, called back the following day to check it was still connected to the internet and it was all working well.
Very easy to use
Since buying this and having the installation from British Gas I have been delighted with the increased level of control and temperature accuracy that we have experienced when compared with our old analogue thermostat and boiler controller.
We currently have the thermostat “free-standing”, i.e not wall-mounted or even an a stand, but this does not seem to in any way detract from its operation. Making changes to the off-on schedule and/or temperature, either via this unit or, more often via the phone app is extremely simple and straightforward.
All in all, an excellent purchase!
Great way to control your heating
Bought this on a Black Friday deal. Booking the installation was easy, we had to wait 3 weeks but the engineer turned up on time and was very professional. The kit was installed in less than 90 minutes and everything was left nest and tidy.
We’re still playing with the features but so far impressed, especially with being able to boost our heating whilst out.
Hive Working in Perfect Harmony with Alexa.
Had this installed by a British Gas engineer.
All went extremely well, the engineer knew exactly what he was doing.
I have a y-plan system and would never switch to a combi.
The reason is, that if my boiler is ever faulty, then I lift a couple of electric radiators in from the guarage and switch the immersion heater on.
With a combi you would have no hot water to bath or shower in, unless you have electric shower. I have a power shower so need a tank of hot water to feed the power shower.
The Hive reacts perfectly with Alexa and give me the option to set Heating or hot water on as a scheduled set up and also via voice commands to Alexa.
Seems perfect in every way.

So, I didn’t realize that I needed a router for the setup. What happened was, today, I just noticed and started searching for possible options ’cause I only have a huawei pocket wifi and the manual said it should not be connected to an extender. But I tried it anyway. I saw a TP-link extender with an ethernet port, the problem, I didn’t know if it’s a WAN/LAN port. I asked TP Link CS for confirmation and they said it’s LAN and should work, but I was still skeptical and ordered a Wifi Travel Router that has both WAN and LAN ports. For everyone confused as to why I’m doing this, what I wanted to happen was to connect my mobile wifi to an extender/router which can connect to the Hive via an ethernet port, because that’s the only connection it can make. I didn’t have a broadband so my only option was to get that Wifi signal wired. So I got the extender from Argos and I told the engineer that we could try if it connects, because he too haven’t seen it done before, and just fix the boiler first and settle for not being able access hive remotely and wait for the router to arrive. Fortunately, after everything was installed and I tried connecting via the app, IT FREAKIN’ WORKED!!! No need for expensive wireless routers and further cables. I cancelled my router order and can now finally relax and set my thermostat settings on my phone.

Was very apprehensive of letting a British Gas Eng loose on a system that was working well (from past experience) however, the engineer that attended was very competent and carried out the work quickly without any fuss or mess.
On completion the engineer also explained fully how it operated from my smart phone and since his visit everything is working as normal and I am happy that I can monitor and control my heating system from afar.

I had the package with the installation from British gas and the guy was great, went through everything with me and was super friendly. He even provided me with a free signal booster. Works like a dream
Can’t fault it. Installation by BG was a breeze. We have a conventional boiler so given some of the reviews I was a tad concerned but BG engineer was great as in turned up on time, fully explained everything, chatty and polite. Easily connected to Alexa via app. Definitely reccomend.

There are a few criticisms
1. If you work shifts then not enough daily slots but if you work 9 to 5 then plenty of time slots
2. Integration with Alexa & Life360 is great for turning heating off when everyone in house leaves BUT it turns settings to off rather than to schedule mode.
This means heating won’t come on at scheduled time later in day….you have to manually turn it back to schedule

Bought this with the install by British Gas . The engineer had a great wealth of knowledge on the product and he set up my app and gave me advice on how get the best out of using the Hive system . App is easy to understand and setting up the heating and Hot water is quick and less hassle than using the controls on the hive.
You can set it from the device if you dont have the app or your phone is flat and its worth learning how to use both but the app is more straight forward to use . Compared to a standard thermostat and timer this is more flexible with a lot more options to adjust for every day of the week and you can adjust it from anywhere through the app. Boost buttons on device and app so if you need more hot water then quick and easy .The options with Alexa to control is handy and the commands are quick and responsive. Pleased with purchase and as thermostat is moveable and not hard wired its another benefit as you can take it in to any room and set the heating for the room your in. There is override buttons on the hive receiver so all covered if issues with wifi.
Works great with Alexa
Love this product! Love being able to set the temperature of the house via Alexa. The boost setting is great aswell meaning we can have the heating on for a set length of time and it turns itself off without us having to do it hence saving money as I’d usually forget! The literal only downside to this product is I’m moving house, and if I want it in the new house I have to buy a new one rather than take it and arrange an engineer visit. So ended up costing a lot of money!

Came with free installation which was quick, easy and painless to organise and carry out.
Not sure if it’s saved us money on our energy at all, but it’s certainly made it easier to operate!
True Hive convert now, we have the heating, bulbs, plugs, security cameras and door / window censors!

Oops a bit odd to try and find the British Gas voucher in the box. Personally I despair of Worcester etc hard wall units use if you want to be flexible etc. So great to get again at my new home as I have had Hive in prior homes for decades.

Wouldn’t want to be without one of these. Provides great flexibility with programming heating and hot water and has built in frost protection. With the benefit of controlling it from a smart phone system can be overridden remotely.

Love this – initially I fell out of love as I had to keep resetting the device. I have had to call support a few Times and they were good On the phone. However it seems to be okay for now. Great for ease of use and geo location. Good money saver if no one in the house.

This was a replacement for the original hive I’d had installed years ago. I previously only had heating but wanted water as well. I had looked to see if I could do a self install but due to the complex nature of my system I decided to go for the British Gas install. I was sent out the thermostat and arranged the install for a week later using the included code. The electrician came on time and changed everything over easily once he worked out my unusual installation. I did have to ring Hive to sort out the changeover of kit but that was easy. Pleased I have gone for both water and heating. Works brilliantly and works well with my other plugs and lights.

Was installed as promised at a time suitable to us. Easy to use and to link to Alexa. Great to be able to use the app on the phone to put the heating on or boost it before we get home or to boost the water heating before we get into the shower. Best investment bought for our home all year.
5 star product - good look and very sturdy
I was deciding between Nest and Hive and after reading a few reviews went for the latter. I am not keen on AI deciding when to heat my home and would rather have all the controls to myself. The installation that came with the product was easy to arrange and 5 days later an engineer came to activate everything. 30 mins later the combi boiler was connected to the thermostat. Easy controls from the unit as well as the mobile.
After a long 6 hour professional installation. It finally worked. Had to call back the installation company twice to repair the damaged caused by the installation engineer to the compensation pump. It now works OK and does what I wanted it to. Namely control the heating whilst we are away. Sometimes it doesn’t update the settings for days. A reset of the phone is necessary.

It’s not been overused as it was installed at the start of summer but when we have used it it’s been reliable. Looking forward to fitting some of the new hive thermostatic valves that have just been released to allow more flexibility in the use of hive

Makes heating the home a breeze...
Wanted to update the heater timer for ages, was going to fit myself, but with the offer on at the time it was as cheap to purchase with installation.
Booking engineer was simple, fitter was done in a matter of 45 mins and fitted, up and running and tested.
Linked it to my Google home hub with ease.
Love that heating and water can be controlled via app, by voice on on the actual unit.
Great feature is you can program it to switch on to a certain temp when your within a certain distance from home.
Can’t fault it, it’s brilliant bit of kit.
Only negative and it’s not really a negative is no smart phone apps currently for it, would be nice to be able to control the settings from my watch ad well
Useful Controlle
First thing – watch the price on this before buying. It is often featured in promotions which makes it much better value. Arranging installation was easy and a British Gas engineer turned up to do it. Once installed it’s really easy to master especially via the app. It responds well to changes in temperature too.
WHAT A CARRY ON!
I paid for the install.
We have a new boiler, a Vokera Evolve 36c. Gas engineer looked baffled and ended up phoning one of his colleagues for help.
Engineer number two arrives and seemed to have a better idea how to install, nevertheless the two of them were in long discussion about it for quite some time.
Anyway, they managed to get it installed and after some testing via the thermostat and the iOS App it seemed to be working as it should.
They left.
An hour or so later I went to wash my hands and – NO HOT WATER, no water at all actually from any of the hot taps.
Cold taps working fine, plenty pressure.
Called the gas guy again, the clueless one and he gets all defensive on the phone but agrees to come back.
Still waiting, I shall update later.
Not a good experience so far but the product itself is not to blame.

Looks and works better than original Hive
Had the 1st generation Hive at a previous house. This review is based on that experience as well as the new unit.
Very easy to set schedules
Very easy to boost/change schedule to suit needs.
We have a fairly standard day, so do not need to have a “learning thermostat” like Nest.
New unit looks and works (and looks much) better than the previous one, making it much easier to change things without using the app.
Already noticed that our use has dropped, because I’ve found it much easier to tweak settings so that the heating/hot water schedule now fits our actual daily routine. Further tweaks will bring it down even more.
Overall very happy with the Hive system (including straight forward fitting by British Gas) and the second generation Hive unit.

I bought this Hive Thermostat including installation. It’s worth keeping an eye open because with Prime membership you can buy it much cheaper and the sale price alters quite regularly. I paid 149.99.
It works faultlessly via touch controls on the unit or using the app. I have a smart meter installed and I notice the gas usage reducing quite a lot by a bit of smart scheduling the heating.
Fitting doesn’t take very long and I guess this is dependant on your boiler. My boiler isn’t very old and was told it was very straightforward. Personally I wouldn’t like to attempt self insulation. Leave it to British gas.

Great Product and very well installed and in good time
We were looking at this system for a while, but had been a little put off by some of the negative reviews. Anyhow, a deal came up and we bit the bullet. I had considered trying to install this myself if we bought it to try and save money, but having now witnessed the installation and also the saving we made on the Amazon deal I was glad that I left it to the experts. On delivery, you get the Thermostat. Everything else follows later after you have created a Hive account and booked your British Gas engineer to come from a card that is in the thermostat box. The engineer then brings the hub and the receiver. Our engineer was here within 10 days, he phoned me 15 minutes before arriving too. He took around 1.5 to 2 hours to install, test and demo all. He gave me a full demonstration of everything and gave me some tips on where I could find out more about it. On installation, he installed the receiver, which replaced the old timer switch that was next to our boiler. He then installed the Thermostat in our hallway, safely blocking of the wires from our old one. He then did something in the cupboard where our hot water cylinder is located (not sure what he did here). Finally he connected the Hub to our router. We have been running the system now for over a week and although connected to our Amazon echo, we find it is not required or necessary to do so as the apps on our phones and online are amazing for control and setting up timers. The apps also give you history on the temperature of your house over time, days, weeks months years etc… If you are on the fence and have an old timer/thermostat etc…, just do it and don’t be afraid of the British Gas engineer doing the dirty work for you, they were very good for us and we don’t even have British Gas services.

Does what it says on the packaging. Good stable app and looks nice and flash on the wall.
Note – I have an ideal combi boiler and purchased the heating and hot water option, as this was the only one in stock and on an amazing offer. When the British Gas engineer came to fit it, they simply bring with them the hub needed for your boiler, of course by having a combi my options using this is to turn on my heating as my water is on demand.
It’s safe to say I have fully set up my routine added quick action to turn heating off and have my movie night option.
If you’d like to make your home a “Smart home” then this is a great first step. And lastly a massive shout out to the engineer, nothing was to much hassle. Took my old thermostat down fitted my new one, even filled in the screen holes so I could get on with the painting.
A great value purchase with simple controls
Having purchased a number of other smart devices for my home it was just a matter of time before I invested in a device that (I hope) will help me save money on my heating bills. My existing thermostat was a generic one with little to indicate the temperature and target temperature. The Hive does that for you and much, much more.
I purchased the device as it was on a special deal with free fitting included by British Gas. The device arrived the next day and the fitting was arranged via the Hive website, by entering the provided Redemption Code. The gas engineer arrived a week later to fit the device. The fitting took all of about 45 minutes and the engineer even guides you through the set up process.
SETUP
Setting up the Hive application is very easy. I have an iOS device and downloaded the application. Start the app by registering your details and then once registered you simply search for the connected Hub by entering the code on the back of the Hub. The app connected straightaway and I could see my default schedule for thermostat and heating control once I had paired the Hub and thermostat.
CONTROL
Controlling the thermostat is very easy and setting the schedule to my own preferences is a simple case of selecting start and end time. You can set as many or as few as you want.
BUILD
The front screen is clear and well lit up where you can clearly see the target temperature and the current room temperature. The screen is well made with a clear display and the standard casing (white) fits in well with my decor.
SMART FEATURES
You can manually override the settings/schedule from your phone. The app also lets you set up actions that can be performed when you have multiple Hive devices. For example, you can set Hive up to turn down the heating when you leave your property amongst a range of other actions.
OVERALL
So far I am pleased with the purchase and will only be able to tell whether this saves me money in the long-run.

Works perfectly well with our Combi Boiler. British Gas engineer installed this for us 2 days after it got delivered. Took him about 45 minutes to install. Box comes with a code which you tell Hive live chat who then arrange your engineer.
Also got this hooked up to the Hive App and our Alexa. Works seamlessly with Alexa commands. Perfect for out of home use too. Open the hive app and your able to set your heating so it’s toasty when you arrive home. Lots of cool features like boost mode, schedules etc which I’m sure we will use when on holiday
Overall very happy with the purchase. We bought a 15 stand too so it sits on our Mantle Peice.

Great produc
We had never really thought we needed one of these but when our existing standard thermostat broke we decided to upgrade. The unit was delivered quickly then arranged fitting online using the code enclosed, had some initial problems as the website wouldn’t process the request but text chatted with an online agent who arranged fitting within a few days. The British Gas engineer turned up on time and fitted everything without fuss.
We can now control the heating via a phone app or through Alexa and don’t know how we managed without it, would recommend for anyone who is not sure if it would be useful.

Bought this on an Amazon Warehouse deal (saved about 70) and it was in A1 condition. Arranged for the British Gas engineer to install it about a week later (not bad for being in the middle of a cold spell in early February, I expected a much longer wait). They turned up when promised and the install took less than an hour. It turned my basic ‘dumb’ gas combi boiler in to a much more versatile heating system. I can now program different schedules for every day rather than just have on/off/timer and I love the level of control you get with with the app. Not tried linking it to Alexa yet, but so far it does everything I want of it. Very happy customer.
Savings are obvious.
Love this product, it easy to see how savings are possible. Able to control from anywhere, gives flexibility (can switch heating on when I convenient e.g. when I’m ordering my last pint, house is lovely and warm when we get home). Equally, often we go out for the day and I’ve forgotten to switch heating off, no issue anymore, just switch off from my phone. PS. We are not young “tec’y” people, we are retired, so it’s certainly not difficult to use.

He brought a hub with him but I already had a hive 360 and another hub so he did not need the one he brought. This did prove a bit of an issue but that was my error not his. Tell the installer if you have a hub already to make the experience even more efficient. This has solved the age old problem of having to get up from bed to turn down the heating, we just do it from the app or via Alexa.

Bought Hive with installation included and it was all so easy. Once the thermostat arrived ( and quickly ) called BG for installation. Again installation was booked quickly and with am/pm offered. BG engineer came as per booking and it took about 90mins for all the work to be done with full explanation. Now have heating,hot water, my 4 outside lights plus 2 inside power points all controlled on my phone. Love it and I repeat….so easy.

Just had our HIVE installed. Although it took a total of 5 weeks for British Gas to install it due to busy Christmas period, its a great product! Love that you can control your heating from wherever you are on your phone. You can also put the thermometer anywhere in the house however I have had it put up on the wall where the old one was.
I didn’t have the greatest of experience with British Gas engineer. He was not very polite and just wanted to get the job done and get out quickly; not very helpful in telling me how it works. Luckily I researcher it quite a bit before purchasing it. Also, Instead of asking me to provide my HIVE thermometer, he installed his own one that he brought along and then asked if he could take the one I purchased from Amazon, to which I refused. And asked him to install my one and remove his one.
Works well despite thick internal walls
I was always a bit freaked out that our house didn’t have a thermostat. It’s a big house with solid internal walls and very thick external ones but the ‘inner frugal’ shrieked ‘no thermostat is wrong’. WiFi is an issue given our walls so I was sceptical about it working. But it does, very well! I can now relax a little and tinker with timings to my hearts content to get the optimum temp and timings for heating and hot water.

Bought with installation for 128 on Black Friday it came with a new free echo dot and I rfceived a 30 compensation from British Gas as the engineer had to return with a blanking plate for the boiler so apart from the slight inconvenience it only really cost about 68.

British Gas won't fit to oil boilers... Beware!
So the Hive smart thermostat is tried and tested, and it works for me just perfectly. I can’t really add to anything that other users have written before me.
However… Buyer beware – if you buy this with installation, British Gas will only fit this system to a gas boiler. If, like us, you have an oil boiler, while the system works perfectly, the British Gas engineers are not allowed to, and therefore will not, fit this system, rendering your additional outlay for the installation fee wasted. Either get an electrician in to fit, or fit it yourself if you’re that way inclined!
This (fairly major) detail isn’t stated anywhere on the Amazon product page, or the Hive website. I have informed Amazon of this issue, and and hope they will amend their produx
I purchased the ‘Multizone Additional Smart Thermostat’ as a replacement for my original thermostat. I was therefore a little surprised to see this supplied with a new single channel (heating only) receiver. You do not need this if you are buying this as a replacement for an existing thermostat.
The new thermostat was relatively easy to reset and pair with my existing dual channel (heating and water) receiver, but the Hive App showed the thermostat and water as being offline, despite everything working correctly internally – everything had green lights, I could manually adjust the temperature and turn the heating on etc.
After several resets this problem persisted so I called Hive. They were extremely helpful, and were able to delete the old thermostat from my account, which immediately made everything work as expected. Pity you can’t delete the old thermostat yourself, but full credit to Hive customer service for sorting this in a phone call lasting less than 1 minute!

Great product, works really well on both Android and Apple devices, even on apple watch- unfortunately no Samsung smart watch support so it loses a star for that but otherwise a brilliant device for controlling your heating (and coupled with the lights and Alexa is amazing)

After going from your bog standard Honeywell room stat & controller, you will definitely enjoy the amount of different schedules you can set, being able to have your heating ready at a set time (instead of telling it when to come on) this system can learn how long your heating circuit takes to reach your desired temperature depending on the ambient temperature, saving you energy because it’s not on for unnecessary periods, being able to control it away from the home is also a godsend.
Great and hopefully an energy save
We purchased the hive middle of November and l promptly requested an install. As another reviewer mentioned, British Gas appear to put you at the end of the queue as the earliest install date was for mid January.
Three weeks later and l finally got around to downloading the hive app and registered, going through my original emails from hive which mentioned they would send me an installation confirmation. I’d not received one so rang the hive team.
It turned out that whilst they could see the planned install date, the install request hadn’t been fully actioned. At this point l was expecting all the slots to have been booked and for the install to be put back perhaps weeks.
To my surprise they had lots of free slots including one the next day, so we ended up with an install five weeks earlier than planned.
Installation went smoothly and we’ve had a chance to play around with it.
We live in a 50s build so not the best insulated and the thermostat is an ancient thing in the hallway, with numbers in Fahrenheit. We didn’t have an accurate idea of temperature as despite becoming experts in Fahrenheit to Celsius conversions the heating would tend to stay on for the full duration of the timed settings on the boiler.
The Hive gives a real time temperature and now the boiler cuts out when the target temperature has been reached. It seems strange but the house is now warmer, without the boiler running like crazy.
The app is simple and straightforward to use and you can geofence your home so the hive will remind you if you leave home with the heating on.
The only downside is the schedule. You can change the heating schedule day to day but you can’t have, say, different schedules to change between if you work different shifts from week to week.
This is a feature that people have been asking for, for at least the last four years – so one star off for that.
Certainly looks promising and will be interesting to see if it brings heating bills down.

The first step in my smart home
I’m very happy with my Hive. The whole process from ordering on Amazon, to installation by British Gas was seamless.
The British Gas engineer was friendly, helpful and informative. Although we had a slight glitch in that the home hub was faulty, he quickly remedied the situation by phoning a colleague who has a spare one, then got Hive to register the new one to my account immediately.
We now have Alexa, and can ask her to turn the heating as we would like it, as well as using the Hive app. Very happy and just wish we’d done it sooner.
Would recommend for anyone who isn't in the house for long periods of the day.
Product works as I expected it to (keep my house warm and heat up water). As work away from home and only use heating on set timer I do like the feature to turn on heating for a boost when travelling home or when I know visitors are coming round. The core product acts same as most thermostats but gives you the ability to control when not in your house to proactively heat up before getting back.
British Gas did face issues, on the day of fitting, replacing over my existing system but came back a few days later to fix properly (even though not a BG customer at no extra cost too). Would recommend for anyone who isn’t in the house for long periods of the day.

Easy schedule to aid energy saving
Now can control heating and water from anywhere and be notified if heating left on etc. When not on the schedule keeps an eye on the temperature and will turn heating on if in danger of frost damage for piece of mind
I think so far the biggest impact for us is the easy access to the schedule which we can monitor and change with minimal effort. The old timer was a clunky old digital one which was setup 10 years ago before kids etc and we didn’t even bother to change daylight saving times etc. Now we have things set to the bare minimal with added use of boost for heating/ water when in extra over Christmas etc.

Was interested in Hive for a while and got it through Amazon with a British Gas installation. The whole process was slick and professional and after delivery it took about 10 days for British Gas to install the system. It makes a difference as I can set things up from anywhere on my mobile phone and works with my Amazon Echo devices too. No more fiddling about with timers when you can just say what you want! This is the future and well worth the money.
Extremely pleased with the Hive Thermostat. The biggest and pleasantest surprise for me was finding how much quieter my heating system is now the Hive is installed and up and running. It is lovely and quiet compared with the noise the heating system made before. The installation went without a hitch. Upon receiving the thermostat, I was confused as instruction booklet mentions needing a plug socket but was unclear on which if the three items needed this socket. The thermostat unit uses batteries, the plug is for the hub which needs to be kept near your broadband unit, so the vacant plug socket needs to be in this location. The engineer dealt with the electrical parts if the fitting. The downloaded app is excellent. Easy to understand, easy to set up schedules individually for every day of the week and easy to adjust as and when circumstances require it. I am in my seventies and often find new gadgets challenging but have found the Hive software simple to follow and set up. Absolutely delighted with it. Soooo glad I bought it.

Brilliant Gadget but rubbish installation service
Gives great control over the central heating system, even at a distance. But British Gas’s installation service is rubbish – missed the first two appointments before finally turning up. Clearly not BG’s priority to install the Hive.

Fantastic product! Great value too as bought in the Black Friday sale (which I’m sure is the case every year!). App works very well giving you the opportunity to turn the central heating on and off whenever you like and from wherever you are, settings available include tracking your location and asking you fig you want to turn the heating on or off (doesn’t do it automatically, just asks you if you want to). Fitted by a British Gas engineer which took just over an hour, and he needed to plug into your wifi router and the mains and fit a receiver next to the boiler. The thermostat replaced was positioned where the old one was, though it can be placed anywhere.
Just a point on the fitting, this was a bit of a frustration as they gave me a date and approximate time for installation, the day came and they didn’t turn up, called Hive customer services who put me in touch with British Gas, who said ‘they couldn’t come as they were really busy’, which meant having to take another day off to be in for the installation which was really annoying – but it’s in now and works wonderfully.
