AromaSelector
With Melitta’s patented flavour selector, you can adjust the intensity of your coffee at the touch of a button: for a mild or strong coffee. You can, for example, enjoy a pick-me-up coffee at breakfast, and a gentle feel-good coffee after lunch. The Aroma Selector function ensures you constantly get the best taste, in a practical way without having to change the amount of water or coffee.

Practical timer feature
The timer feature with LED display gives you seductive coffee enjoyment when you want it. Programme a time for your coffee machine to start brewing and allow yourself (for example) to be woken up with the smell of fresh coffee. The appliance switches on automatically at the time you set.

Unbreakable insulated pot can be used with one hand
The Look Therm Timer comes with an insulated pot made of double-walled, stainless steel and is unbreakable and shockproof. Thanks to the brew-through lid, the coffee flows into the insulated jug ready to serve. It can be used with one hand, which makes it really easy to pour your coffee.

3-in-1 limescale protection
Only with regular descaling can you ensure that your coffee machine works perfectly. So the Melitta Look Deluxe gives you 3-in-1 limescale protection with programmable water hardness level, a calcification display and a convenient descaling programme.

Absolutely great. I had a Ninja coffee bar but there were so many issues with it i.e. clean light on two or 3 times a week despite being cleaned many times. Company told us light was faulty but as it was out of warranty they could do nothing. The coffee in the Ninja was good but the price is around 150 so after some research we settled on this little beauty. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Melitta. It is sturdy and makes wonderful coffee. I dont like weak coffee and this really ticks all the boxes. It does not drip as my more expensive Ninja did and the flavour is superb. So got a perfect machine thst makes great coffee for 100 less than the Ninja. Total win -win situation and we couldn’t be more pleased.
Have had lots of other machines as I have worked from home for years and drink a lot of coffee so liked the timer function on previous machines to be ready after dog walk and then keep the coffee hot
After myold machine died I thought I would give this a go not sure if the flask option would be good compared to the old 2hour hot tray one I had. This has turned out to be so much better, as soon as the coffee is done just take the flask away (not hot to the tpuch at all) and pour as needed, machine is only heating when brewing so should be more effecirent. Coffee is good too
I put a permanent filter in place, the old basket one I had from the olf machine did not fit properly so have a mesh permanent filter which is perfect and easy to clean.
Have even make the coffee put the flask in the car and it was hot over 3 hours later
Love this machine and is used every day, no issues at all
Timer and clock setting are easy as is filling and cleaning, we are in a very soft water area so cannot comment on scaling, although there are settings for this as well which as well explained too
The main feature of this Machine Is the thermos jug which is very well made and heavy duty, you need to take it off of the machine straight away after running the coffee through to shut the valve on top, I have found that the Coffee remained piping hot for well over two hours so would presume it will remain drinkable for a lot longer, as for the brew if you put it on intense you don’t need an awful lot of coffee to make a nice balanced coffee a couple of heaped table spoons does the job, the Coffee I buy from Lost Sheep is a Single Origin craft roasted coffee so using as little as possible per brew is always good, the coffee has had very good reviews from everyone who has tried i
I’ve only had this a few weeks so this is my initial review so far.
This machine requires filters, I’ve always used paper filters in other machines even if they had a gause mesh filter as it’s easier to bin the spent ground coffee so this was a non issue for me, You can always purchase a re-usable filter should you wish.
Looks wise it looks great with contrasting dark plastic and brushed metal. The water level can be read from either side of the machine as well although it’s not the clearest I’ve seen.
The coffee pot is a delight, it is a double wall item with a lid that has a stopper that you need to open via a simple rocker to pour the coffee but stays closed when not in use to reduce the heat escaping from the coffee. The double wall vacuum design keeps the coffee acceptably warm for over 2 hours without the need for an electricity powered hot plate (should cost less to run than my old coffee maker) . The drip sop also allows you to pour a mug of coffee while it’s still brewing for a short time. I tend to leave it until the full brew is done though.
Coffee. I tend to make a jug full so I cannot comment (yet) on smaller volumes but set on the high intensity setting it tastes great. I’ve not tried it on different intensity settings yet so cannot yet comment on the effectiveness of different settings yet. One more thing to test when I have the time,
The timer works well once set but could be a tad easier to set, certainly when compared to my ageing Morphy Richards machine I now use at work. It works though. Ideal for a fresh pot of coffee just brewed for when I rise from my nights sleep.
If there is a downside it would be that there is no indication of the amount of coffee left in the pot but by lifting it you get a pretty good idea if there is enough coffee inside for a mug full.
In summary.
– It makes great filter coffee for my tastes although I’ve yet to try the different intensity stetting.
– Its quite quick to brew a full pot < 10 minutes - It should be cheap to run, it powers off after making the brew with no power needed for a hot plate, the jug does a great job at keeping the coffee warm for a couple of hours and it still tastes good. - The jug has a small filler so cleaning tools are needed for a thorough clean, I just rinse mine out with a small amount of dish washing up liquid to do the job. I will update this review if needed but so far I'm very pleased with this machine.
I used to have a coffee maker a few years back with a hotplate and had hot coffee all day long, after it broke I used a caffetierre for the last couple of years, finally decided to get a new machine and found out hotplates are no longer a thing, after looking at a few I plumped for this one because reviewers said it kept coffee warm for at least the 2 hours it said it did. This is wrong, I make a pot at 9am on a timer, finish the same pot at 4pm in the afternoon with the last hot cup, I was happily amazed it stayed hot this long.
Hot, all day long, flavourful, and variable strength, coffee, exactly what I wanted.

It makes great coffee, but the thermal jug is the best feature. The coffee stays hot (and I mean HOT) for at least an hour. I’ve never tested it beyond that time frame, but I suspect it would stay hot for a lot longer. The only minor drawback is that the filter is designed for paper filters and won’t fit a standard basket filter (the company that makes this machine are famous for selling the filter papers – basket filters are their sworn enemy, evidently). However, if you’re not a paper filter fan, all is not lost. For under 10 you can grab a stainless steel mesh coffee filter (size 4). I got the AIEVE one and it fits perfectly. Happy slurping!
This Melitta filter coffee machine is really good. I had reservations about the thermal jug and the fact there is no hot plate. Having used the machine everyday for just over a week, I can say that the thermal jug keeps the coffee hot for not just two hours as stated, but at least four hours. The fact there is no hot plate is irrelevant, in fact it is a benefit. After four hours the coffee was NOT stewed as it would have been with a hot plate, in fact the coffee tasted really good.
Cleaning the machine is simple as is setting the machin up out of the box. There are two tips I will offer (1) purchase a measuring spoon, then you will have the same strength coffe every time. (2) pour hot water into jug to warm it up and then empty the jug before use.
All in I am very pleased with my purchase and have no hesitation in recommending it.
We’ve had our Melitta Coffee Machine in a cupboard in our bedroom for a few years now. It has been reilable and works every morning so that we wake up to a nice hot cup of coffee. We have found that the thermos jug keeps the coffeee hot enough to drink for several hours, it is very easy to clean and I find the descaling system easy to do as the machine tells you when to do it which is important in our hard water area. Its a fairly simple process ( read the instruction first though – I learnt this through experience) I think the reviewer who had problems with the strength of the coffee may have been using the wrong grind for the machine, our coffee is usually pretty good, we use a good Italian brand ground for filter machines. I would reccomend it as good value for money.
What with us all at home all the time, we took the plunge and bought a coffee maker. Having shopped around I knew I wanted one with a thermal jug as EU regulations for electricity saving mean hot plates have to turn off automatically after 40 mins, and that means the coffee would go cold fairly quickly. But that meant the options were limited, and more expensive than those with glass jugs. We also wanted a timer, although we haven’t used this function yet.
There were two machines that met our criteria that were cheaper and initially we tried one that was 10 cheaper. The coffee was fine but the jug leaked everywhere due to bad design and the steam went into the digital display. Returned it and went for this one.
It is really very, very good. If you live in a hard water area you’ll like the anti scale features. If you like to adjust the strength of your coffee you’ll like the strength feature (and you can buy different kinds of melitta filters that will also adjust the strength of your brew). It was sometimes almost too strong (and I like strong coffee!) so I was able to use a little less coffee – kerching! Ha ha.
It is very easy to fill, easy to remove the used filter and having made the coffee at 10am I just had a perfectly warm cup at 5pm, so rest assured the thermal jug works very well.
Since I like a bargain, I have been trying various coffees: Lidl are much better than Aldi for pre-ground coffees. The Lidl Large pack of Columbia’s is very nice for everyday, and the Guatemalan special one is absolutely lovely.
We have used various coffee machines before. A very expensive, big and noisy one, which now lives in a cupboard because hubby didn’t use many of the features and it was a nightmare to clean. Then we had a small capsule one. Did the job, but capsules were expensive and we couldn’t recycle them. I searched around for an alternative that would be easy to clean and not too expensive. This one was perfect. Had it for over a year now and used daily. Very easy to maintain, paper filters and grounds go in the composting bin, lots of choice of coffee on Amazon or in the supermarket. Definitely recommend this one.
A rare review from me, but you need to know that if you want your place to smell of brewing coffee, this is not the machine for you.
The vacuum flask keeps the coffee hot for hours without a hot plate, making it ecofriendly. But the flask is sealed, with a valve allowing coffee to drip through. This means hardly any coffee aroma comes from the machine.
That said, the coffee it makes is great. I found Lavazza 5 is the best. Coarser ground coffees did not work well.
I do love it. But I wanted my place to fill with the smell of brewing coffee.
I had the previous version of this with the glass jug and hotplate. It lasted over 4 years before one of the kids dropped and smashed the glass jug so this is its replacement. This is easy to use, easy to clean, makes good coffee with a choice of strength/intensity.
I like the fact that the hotplate is gone, it worked well, but used electricity. The replacement insulated coffee jug keeps the coffee nice and hot without stewing it (although it doesn’t last long enough to get cold in our house).
If there’s one thing I miss about the glass jug it is being able to see how much coffee is left. Here you pour and hope for the best. Sometimes I make coffee, go away to do something, come back to pour a cup but can’t see that my family have actually drunk the pot. But that’s the payoff I guess for losing the hotplate.
Works a treat and produces nice coffee.
Insulated jug keeps coffee warm for ages and the bottom of the jug stays cool so you can put straight onto the table.
Fast brew time – which is nice.
The one problem? — the Clock / Timer has not got a battery backup. That means that every time you unplug the machine the clock / timer is reset to 00.00 which makes it useless as you have to reset it every time you use the machine.
This doesn’t happen if you keep the machine plugged in but, never the less, it is, in my opinion, an avoidable fault in the design.
There are basic instructions which I didn’t find that clear re setting the clock rather than the timer. I did manage it but not sure about setting the timer but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
It didn’t say to run water through before the first use but I did that anyway and I’ve just made my first coffee. I used ‘mild’ as it is half three in the afternoon and didn’t want to be up all night not knowing it’s strength.
The instructions making the coffee itself are clear and a little strange after my Morphy coffee maker but first impressions seem good. A little niggle is the scraping sound it makes when pulling and pushing the coffee pot in and out that’s all.
It seems to be doing the job and ultimately the coffee tastes nice (after struggling for the last week manually turning the coffee on repeatedly to get a pot of coffee that didn’t give justice to the coffee I’d bought).
Time will tell but it seems worth the cost but I’ll review again later.
Update review
I’m more impressed by the coffee machine. I set the timer once i.e. 7am and then it’s set without without to reset everyday unless my Morphy Richards machine that I’ve replaced. Definitely keeps the coffee hot for a few hours. Wish I’d purchased this product in the first place!
Excellent, easy to use coffee machine giving great results. Works very well with the same brand’s paper filters making it easy to clean up. The coffee flavour is strong and the results very good.
Timer function works really well and the carafe is both enormous and keeps the temperature and flavour very well for a long period – much better taste than where it’s continually warmed on a plate.
One tip, learnt after having a previous one is don’t leave it unused for a long period – it’s very difficult to get it fully clean after that – i ended up buying a new one as the flavour just wasn’t right. – this was my fault though., not the machine.
An excellent simple filter coffee maker for home or a small office coffee club.
Absolutely love this coffee machine. Coffee comes out lovely and smooth no sludge in bottom of cup like the previous machine. Coffee stays hot in the thermos jug without changing the taste of the coffee. Since the start of lockdown hubby working from home and using coffee machine alot more, this one will be alot more cost effective as we dont throw the cold coffee away, just wish id bought it sooner. Had the ninja coffee bar before this which was almost twice the price and I would not recommend at all, but the Mellita is a great machine for a great price too.
I never heard of this brand before but this is a nice piece of kit.
Pros:
– Makes around 5 full regular size mugs of coffee.
– Brews and percolates fast, around eight mins at the most.
– Not too loud.
– Thermos jug keeps the coffee drinkably hot for at least 4 hours.
– Comes with 6 filter papers to get you started.
Cons:
– Doesn’t come with a permanent filter, but you can buy a size 4 mesh filter cheaply and they work fine.
– You can’t remove the base if you need to deep clean it because, erm, you spilled coffee all over it when you forgot to put the filter holder back in it before brewing….
So yeah, just remember to always put it back together properly after cleaning 😀
Heartily recommended.
This is my third coffee pot this year. The light of my life and all round good guy, my hubby, is also a clumsy oaf. He’s managed to bounce two glass jugs round the kitchen. It goes against my nature to throw things away so try as I might to get replacement jugs I’ve ended up getting a new device.
This coffee pot comes with two excellent features in one. The metal jug! It not only claims to be indestructible but it keeps the coffee hot. It really does keep it hot too.
It means there is no keep warm feature, because it is not required. So, robust and a more eco friendly.
I am genuinely delighted with this product.
Combined with the reusable filter we bought, this machine produces a lovely cup of coffee, quickly! The filter that is offered by Amazon is not the best fit but it works.
The feature we really like is the thermos jug. 2 hours after making a jug of coffee it is still warm and it is not bitter from sitting on the hotplate. leave the intensity knob at full, great flavour. We use Aldi French coffee and have used Tesco and Asda. The intensity knob seems to be the key to a lovely cup.
I wanted a coffee maker that could make at least 10 cup volume, but also keep the coffee hot for a while. This one fitted the bill, and at the offer price of 50 I was willing to have a punt. Its great! Easy to fill both for water and coffee. I use just normal paper filters that I had in anyway and they are fine. I could squeeze in my universal plastic cone but it was a squeeze as the holder isn’t quite round all the way round. But it would probably work ok. The coffee tastes great, it looked pretty pale when I poured it out but was actually full of flavour. The vacuum jug keeps it hot for hours, and it tastes just as good at the end as the start as it hasn’t been left stewing on a hot plate. Ive made coffee in the morning, and 6 hours later the leftovers are still warm enough to drink (although not piping hot). Would recommend to anyone looking for a simple coffee maker.

Pros:
* Sturdy build and feels premium. Parts feel quality.
* Timer and clock really easy to set. Light is subtle.
* The thermal jug – this thing stays warm for hours!
Makes a good coffee. Taken a day or so for the taste to really come out.
* Easy to keep clean. Easy to fill.
Cons:
* Water drip system isn’t as good as shower head models. Grounds end up with a hole in the middle. Takes a lot of coffee for best brew.
*Doesn’t make the hottest coffee, so if you like it milky this probably isn’t the machine for you.
* As with all other filter machines- the non-drip system drips!
* Steel attracts fingerprints.
* Should come with a permanent filter.
I purchased this to replace my ageing Panasonic coffee maker as I also wanted one with a timer as I get up for work really early. I was a little sceptical of having a thermal jug rather than a hot plate but believe my doubts were soon set aside. The jug keeps the coffee hot for at least two hours so it means energy is not being wasted on a hot plate. Easy to fill and clean, also looks good. Note it requires filter papers it does not have a mesh filter but that’s a good thing as you get a better taste. Good value.
Had this for soon 3 months so safe to write a review. Best coffee maker I’ve had/used even comparing with MoccaMaster.
The sliding scale of intensity is so useful when trying out different coffee brands and grinds.
All parts are built well and ready to take out and clean.
The descaling alert has come on twice which is predictable with our inner London water quality! The alert doesn’t prevent from making coffee, and I have successfully used a 50-50 mix of strong vinegar and filtered water instead of expensive products.
Highly recommended.
Setup as any coffee machine is the same: get a paper filter, load it with approx 2 heaped tablespoons per cup (I use a bit more as i like my coffee strong), put water into the required level on resevoir, then you have 2 options:
Either press the on button to have your coffee brewing immediately, or hold the timer button while setting up what time you want it to start pouring, then when you release the button after setting the time, just press timer once and it will come on at the desired time.
There are a couple of cons to this, but nothing major: firstly, when you set it to come on for a desired time the light on the timer stays on to say it’s set, that would normally be fine but I have it in my pitch black bedroom so have to find a way of covering the light. Secondly, the reservoir is way off what we consider a standard cup size. I like to have 2 cups in the space of a few hours, and have found that I need to fill it to the 4 cup mark to achieve this.
However, the best thing about this is the thermal jug, which eliminates the old glass on a warming plate method. When you pour your first coffee after it is done, it’s a very nice, very hot cup of coffee. I have one about 3 hours later, and its still hot enough to drink black, and as it hasn’t been on a warming plate, it doesn’t taste “stewed” like ones I’ve had before. Just remember to put good quality coffee in!
The strength selector is a nice feature, as it dictates the strength of your coffee, so have a play around until you find your desired cup of coffee. I would definitely recommend this machine, it’s worth paying the extra for such good quality, now if they could only invent an espresso machine on a timer and I’d be in heaven
Pros:
Timer feature
Insulated jug keeps drink hot for hours
Looks and feels like good quality
Strength selector
Doesn’t drip
Machine switches off when drink has poured and reservoir is empty, so no need to panic about hazards
Has a calcium warning light, and decalium function, plus water hardness selector
Makes you never want to drink disgusting instant coffee again
Cons:
Timer switch stays lit up
Reservoir inaccurate
So I have tried a number of different coffee machines from a Caffettiera to a Nespresso machine and I have to say this is by far the best.
I set the machine up before bed and with the timer on, I wake to freshly brewed coffee, with my thermal mug I have coffee for my journey to work and morning.
Clean up is so easy with using the filter paper, just straight to recycling, once a month a descale and quick wash in the dishwasher for the parts that can be washed.
I have used this everyday since purchase and will continue to use, excellent excellent produc
This baby is amazing. We have had the sturdy DeLonghi for years and it served us well until the hot plate started to fail. My husband had his eye on the Cusinart but having read the reviews, particularly with the grinder function that tends to break, wanted something that was reliable and well built all round. This has not disappointed. It’s amazing. We are only on day three so I can’t speak to reliability. Coffee is always hot and fresh. Taste is great. Well designed and thought out. Makes a nice sound when it makes the coffee. And the timer function means hot fresh coffee when you stumble out of bed. My husband —who runs on coffee—said it was “life changing”. We take our coffee to go out of the house in travel mugs and are very happy with it.

I’m so thrilled with this coffee machine it pulls out so much flavour and the option to have so many different strengths is wonderful with that intensity adjuster and it works really well as for keeping the coffee warm it really keeps it hot all day, I come to my pot 6 hours later and I can still have a nice cup of coffee it keeps it hot for about 4 hours and it’s still warm 8 hours later, it’s got a handy clean function and the tray is completely removable so it’s so much easier to rinse and keep clean and the timer is great just remember to set it up the night before and your coffee is ready for you when you wake up in the morning but don’t worry if you forget it only takes about 10 minutes to brew an entire pot I put 3 scoops in mine as I like strong coffee and it pulls all the flavour out without burning the coffee, there is no plastic or metallic chemical taste with this coffee machine like you you can get with so many others, I’m extremely happy with my purchase as I’m quite fussy when it comes to coffee and I have Fallen in love with how much flavour this machine gives without destroying or changing the coffee flavou
Wasted so much money on coffee machines b4 finally giving in and buying a melitta! What can I say….I wish I had done so before! From the first cup you will know what real coffee tastes like. Even though it doesn’t have a keep warm button the thermal mug does that for you. I had my timer set for 6am snd I over slept for work today and the coffee was still steaming hot like it had just been ran. Love love love it! My next purchase is gunna be the melitta with the ground beans but this melitta is going nowhere. I’m s coffee addict so I know my coffee. Trust me you NEED THIS

He LOVES this machine.
We have gone through SO many machines for him now it is stupid, and he always goes back to his pour over by hand filter thing he uses. (currently all in my spare room having given up the ghost after a couple of months… these are ‘pod’ machines so I decided to get something different for him)
Until now that is.
It uses coffee filters and works exactly as his pour over by hand thing, but it is all automated, so he can set it off and then go off and do what he needs to do knowing his coffee will be hot and ready for him when he wants.
He has figured out he has approx two and a half LARGE cups of coffee and it keeps it warm enough for a good couple of hours, and so he now drinks more coffee as he can be lazy and not stand over a cup for five minutes as he hand pours water over the filter.
Time will tell if it has longevity, but he is using it heavily at the moment and is just perfect.
I took a chance on this, not drinking coffee myself and having him as a real coffee snob, but short of spending about a grand on a barista style machine, this is just a damn good thing in his life and he loves it.
Review by someone who does not drink coffee on behalf of someone who drinks shed loads of the stuff
Love this coffee machine. It looks great and is very sleek and stylish.
The intensity feature is a massive bonus and allows me to have a strong intense coffee on a morning and then a milder coffee later in the day.
The timer function is fantastic and means I wake up and the coffee is ready within minutes, so brilliant from a time saving perspective.
The water level guide has two different numbers, one being for espresso measures and the other for full coffee. This is a massive plus in my eyes as so many machines only show the quantities for espresso cups!
The machine itself is slightly bigger than I had originally presumed it to be which did mean I had to do some re-arranging in the kitchen in order to fit it.
Also in the instructions it said the jug lid was machine safe which when I first read it I thought meant the jug and lid were machine safe. They aren’t! It hasn’t broke the jug or anything but it did retain excess water and take nearly two days to dry out properly. The instructions could do with being updated to specifically say that the jug is NOT washing machine safe!

The instructions could do with being updated to specifically say that the jug is NOT washing machine safe!
However, as I thought this made a good cup and it kept the coffee hot in the pot, I ordered the same one again as a replacement.
They have redesigned this since my original purchase. The fill indicators on the front are now in white, instead of black, as shown in the main image at the top of the page.
The bigger change, though, is in adding grooves to the spout of the pot – this improves the pouring so much. The earlier design certainly had a tendency to splash if you were not careful. The new design, however, means the liquid comes out in a controlled, steady stream. So much better.
So in summary – they have fixed the wayward spout in this new design – so there’s no reason not to make that purchase now!
We’ve had this machine a couple of weeks now. It replaces a DeLonghi that had done well for several years. This however appears to be a much better filter coffee machine. The quality is great and it looks very good. The coffee it produces has very good flavour (we have the aroma setting quite high). The thermal jug keeps the coffee at a very good temperature for hours and the timer means that we can wake up with great tasting coffee first thing in the morning…. and it’s much quieter and much quicker than our previous machine. Probably a bit more expensive but definitely worth the money. We haven’t yet needed to descale so can’t comment on the accuracy of the descale ‘alert’ feature at this time. Would definitely recommend this Melitta machine.

Having used an Aeropress syringe to make my coffee for the past ten years, I finally thought I’d treat myself to something that’s a little more automatic. Plus my wife absolutely hates Aeropress and refuses to make me coffee using it, so I thought I’d pick up a filter machine as I had good memories of the coffee I made in a filter machine I bought from Makro some twenty years ago.
This machine has, so far at least, been fantastic. The machine is so simple to use: you simply add the paper and coffee grounds, fill it up with water and hit start. Then you end up with a jug of coffee that seems to stay warm for several hours without the need for a hotplate. The lack of a hotplate is fantastic: there’s no risk of boilding dry an empty glass jug and it’s cheaper to run too.
Cleaning it out is pretty simple too: the holder for the coffee paper is removable. The whole door that holds that part is also easily removable and washable too. The only downside is having to run it through with citric acid cleaning product every few weeks when the reminder light pops on but it’s really not that hard — I remove the inner plastic coffee holder and clean into a clear glass jug so that I, nor anyone else, doesn’t drink the cleaning fluid.
All told it’s a fantastic, unassuming product that does the one thing it’s here for well.
Edit: it’s still working well some two years later but the some black lining has started chipping off the inside of the jug. Now I’m not sure if this is some plastic layer or simply coffee reside that’s hardened. But it sometimes appears at the bottom of my mugs when I’ve finished my coffee, which is a bit disturbing. I can sometimes chip it off the jug too with a chopstick but I’m not able to remove it all.
We were looking to replace our leaking (and worktop-staining) Russell Hobbs machine which was less than 4 years old. We had a gift card so rather than just going for the cheapest one on here (which is often the case) we though we should spend a little more hopefully in exchange for better durability.
We settled on this machine because of the insulated jug which keeps coffee hot for ages, and doesn’t produce that burnt taste you get with a hot plate- plus it uses less electricity which must be a good thing, eh?
We also liked that the coffee holder and water tank lid are separate, making it easier to add water halfway through (admittedly not a frequent event) but it also meant it’s easier to fill in its position under our kitchen cabinets.
The only thing about the insulated jug is that the mouth is a little narrower than I’m used to on coffee pots which does make it harder to clean.
We haven’t used the timer function, the coffee tastes great – and is often hot (or at lest drinkably nice and warm) for up to 2 hours – much better than the standard filter machines.
Came with some free filters, which was a nice touch. We use No. 4s, and bought a shedload so we’re good for the next year I think.
I’ll report back once we’ve used the machine for a bit longer!

If you have used the Melitta funnels and filter this is a coffee maker with thermos flask effectively. Good coffee, well filtered and kept warm for long periods, as with any thermos type system, if you remove coffee (and replace it with room temperature air) it cools down quicker. The maker has a timer for a coffee when you walk through the door.
We are delighted with this coffee maker which keeps coffee wonderfully hot for over an hour and DOESN’T LEAK! Previous units from other makers either leaked over the jug or worktop or were hard to pour without spilling. This unit has a small footprint so it fits into a corner, heats up quickly and then keeps the coffee hot in the insulated jug which is great. The only drawback is that you have to tilt the jug up a long way to pour out the last few drops which people with arthritic hands might find difficult.

I have had several filter coffee makers over the decades (they don’t last forever). Previously my husband and I had to by more than one to find one that made coffee at the right temperature without needing a hot plate to keep it warm (several had to be taken back). This is the best so far and the Timer function is so useful for having the coffee ready for you in the morning. The decalc function is also useful, for monitoring when required and for automatically slowly filtering through it.. The ability to alter the strength may be useful, but I have it set to the strongest so I haven’t tried it.out any other setting.
After 8 months of daily use I wouldn’t change it for the world! Provided you use Melitta filters, (test the different variants first to find the type which better suits your taste), a coffee measuring spoon to ensure you don’t waste coffee and you make it as strong as you like, and good quality ground coffee beans (I suggest single origin and I suggest asking for it to be ground at the setting suitable for paper filter coffee makers) you’ll end up with the best filter coffee you’ve ever had!
Timer function works perfectly.
The steel jug holds the coffee warm for an hour at least (in cold weather and for longer in hot weather) and therefore a much better solution than getting the variant with the hot plate which gradually burns the coffee and consumes electricity for no good reason.
Lastly, after using it day in day out for 8 months, I’ve only had to descale it once last week!

There are hundreds of fancy machines on the market, with capsules, pods and the like – however, if you just like a good cup of coffee I’d really recommend this. I’ll be honest, I’d not heard of the Melitta brand for years, having not bought coffee filters and I remember my Mum having a Melitta machine when I was a kid – nearly 40 years ago. However, I wanted a straightforward machine, with a timer and preferably one without those useless ‘hot plates’ that are supposed to keep them warm. So I narrowed the search to those with thermal jugs. This machine was one of them.
After procrastinating for ages on all the brands available, some incredibly cheap! I decided that it was ridiculous to spend so much time on something that was less than 100 and made a decision, largely based on the fact that Melitta has been around for years, and the pretty much specialise in all things ‘coffee’. The machine arrive promptly and was a doddle to unbox and set up. It looks neat, well made and feels solid.
In terms of coffee making (obviously) it’s great, easy, makes great coffee, it’s quick and quiet. The biggest plus to this machine has to be the thermal jug – not only does it feel solid unlike those standard, flimsy and fragile jugs, but it keep coffee, hot, not just warm, hot, for hours on end!! And not hot but ‘stewed’ – it’s as fresh 6 hours later as when it went in, meaning little wasted coffee. Typical filter machines keep the glass jug ‘warm’ for 45 mins or so, meaning you either have to drink it all then or throw it out.
To close, if you want a filter machine – buy this one!

I bought this as a gift for my parents and they have loved it. Once you have set the time (even just to 12:00) then the coffee maker will brew immediately with a single press of the power button. They never use the timer, but they like that it basically effortless to use. It’s easy to clean out and easy to fill up.
The stainless steel carafe is a huge bonus – it keeps the coffee hot for a very long time without burning it (there’s no heater) so you can make a big pot and come back to it throughout the day for refills.
All the components, especially the carafe itself, feel nice and solid.
PROS
1) Timer function is great – you fill the machine and set the timer for when you want it
2) Therm kettle is brilliant. I’m confused by those who say it doesn’t keep their coffee warm as I’ve not had a problem. It’ll keep it hot and drinkable for a good 2 to 3 hrs. The other benefit is that as it’s insulated you can fill the kettle and then take it with you to the lounge/outside/wherever, so you don’t need to keep popping back to the kitchen and the hot plate. The other great thing is the pouring/lid mechanism which means there is less likely to be any spills and also means you don’t have to worry too much having it knocked of a coffee table (though obviously it still is HOT coffee so use common sense!)
3) The strength selector. This does seem to make the coffee weaker or stronger depending upon it’s position however I leave it at the max as don’t see the point of weak coffee but that’s just me!
CONS
1) Having owned both the Black and White versions of this machine I surprisingly did find there was a difference. The White version kettle didn’t have the “no spill grooves” on the kettle spout whereas the black version does (see the photos). What that means is that I found the white version wasn’t as accurate with it’s pouring and would often spill the coffee as it poured.
2) My first machine failed as I got debris in the water reservoir which then found it’s way into the heating system and caused the ball valve to get blocked which meant that it took ages for the machine to make coffee as the water couldn’t flow to the heating element. Lesson learned and I now use a separate water jug to fill instead of the Therm kettle and ensure I never leave the reservoir flap up when adding coffee
3) Cleaning the kettle is a bit of a pain. Only the kettle lid and coffee filter holder are dishwasher safe. The kettle isn’t and after multiple uses you will find the lovely stainless steel inside becoming coffee stained. My tip is that when you feel it needs a thorough deep clean, fill with water and drop a dishwasher tablet inside, put the kettle lid on and give it a good shake. Now leave overnight. In the morning empty the contents and rinse thoroughly with fresh water. It should now be back to it’s shiny as new appearance.
Overall a great machine in both looks and functions. Get the Black version though for the better pouring action.
Did some reserch and found out about this one.what a difference, easier to use, quieter, more economical, great coffee ,easy to clean out with the paper filters and really hot coffee!!
No more turning the machine on again to keep the the coffee hot as with the russell hobbs, because the thermos jug really keeps it hot easily for a couple of hours, just right for a lazy sunday morning.
I spent a little more and you can see the diffence in quality.I like this machine

I do not agree with the manufacturer’s claim that it contains ten cupfuls, or fifteen small cups. Where are they getting these tiny cups? Do they mean espresso cups? This is the type if coffee you drink in quantity it is not espresso. If two of you have two cups, you will not have much left.
I shall add this glowing review to the growing list of users who think this is the beez kneez. I’ve had it for about a month now and it’s just flashed up that it needs a ‘de-calc’ due to the super hard water we have here. Easy to do and great to know when to run the programme (a little light comes on). This is my third filter coffee maker (others from lesser manufacturers) and I’m thinking it’ll be my last… it really is that good. If you enjoy a nice cup of java, buy one!
The machine itself is REALLY easy to use and clean and the brewing is quick. It also keeps hot quite some time. I gave it a 3 star, because every time you pore, coffee leaks all over. I have tried different ways of holding the jug whilst poring, 9 times out of 10, I have a puddle of coffee! I first thought it was me, but several visitors had coffee spilling everywhere too! Quite a nuisance I only just worked out, how to edit review. I contacted Amazon not long after I pisted my review. I was able to exchange machine, and the new machine had a perfect jug. Everything is still in perfect working order, almost 4 years later. Very happy with coffee maker. Would recommend I have changed star rating from 3 to 5.
This is nice looking, easy to clean and produces tasty coffee – with none of those nasty grounds at the bottom of your cup. I have been using a cafetire for years but then read an article saying the best way to drink coffee is with an old school coffee maker. My parents had similar in the 80s but modern improvements include a base which isn’t heated and is therefore safer – as the jug is metal and insulated (and therefore also not hot to the touch). Love this and use nearly every day.
I can honestly say this is one of the best coffee machines I have ever bought! When I got it out the box it felt quality and premium despite the unit mostly being plastic. But it’s not a light platsuc it feels solid build.
The thermos jug is a great idea instead of using a glass one and works really well keeping the coffee hot. The unit also come with a few filters in the box to get you started which was awesome because I forget to get the paper filters when I got the coffee so would have been stuck. But you get 4 filters in the box so that’s great. You can pick up about 80 filters on Amazon for 4 so no big deal.
The first coffee is made was so good! The machine is very quite and cleaning it after was easy!
I was recommended this machine by a friend at work. Never heard of the make before but very pleased with the purchase!
I can definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of buying a coffee machine.
Second, the coffee keeps warm for a staggering time. Yesterday, I set the timer for a full jug of coffee at 6am. I had a mug at 7am, before leaving for golf. I then had a second and third mug of (still piping hot) coffee from the jug after lunch at 2pm. I then had a warm mug of coffee after dinner at 7pm. OK, it was no longer hot, but it was still drinkabley warm, with some steam – that’s 13 hours after brewing!!!
And that, my friends, is what compelled me to write this review.
Two other reasons why I’m very taken by the Melitta coffee maker. One, the coffee tastes lovely. I don’t know how they do it, given that it’s not got all these mod-cons like shower over etc, but they do. I drink a lot of coffee from lots of places, and I’m very happy with this taste.
Two, the construction is very solid. It feels classy and professional. In fact, this German made coffee maker feels like a good solid German car.
Highly recommended.
****** 18 month update (May 2020)
It’s still going strong, and I’m still loving it. I still maintain that it’s the best thing I’ve bought for years. Since the original review, I’ve also come to appreciate the descaling mechanism – every six months or so, it detects that you need to descale. Once you follow the instructions, add a tablet to a jug of water, it does the rest.
I like my coffee good and strong, and this is still producing the goods after almost daily use for 18 months or so – looking as good and as sturdy as new.
****** 3 year update (January 2022)
I’m treating this review like the 7-up programme! Still working absolutely perfectly and looking great.
The only problem is that the ever-hot thermos has encouraged me to drink so much coffee throughout the day that if I don’t have it on at the weekends, I start to get withdrawal symptoms (seriously!). As such, I’ve started mixing the caffeinated coffee with decaf.
Fantastic machine; arguably the best filter coffee machine on the market. Great design, easy to use and makes amazing coffee. The Aroma selector allows you to adjust strength to taste, and is a feature I’ve only seen on selected Melitta models. The unbreakable jug is a genius bit of design. Keeps the coffee hot for a couple of hours without the traditional hot plate design (which can actually burn and impair the flavour of the coffee). Saves electricity this way, and keeps warm a lot longer than other machines that power off the hot plate after 30 minutes. Removeable filter cone for easy cleaning too. No to mention a generous 24 month guarantee from the manufacturer.

Like many on here, I have had my own pre-conceives ideas of what makes great coffee and I had relegated the filter machine back to the 80s/90s. What I should have remembered is that I loved coffee then too.
This machine is of a good quality build and makes superb coffee. I use it mostly at work and it has been used a lot in a small space of time. The timer is simple and although not too heavy, the thermal jug feels solid and definitely does keep the coffee warm without that burnt taste associated with filter machines.
My one small gripe is that the jug is not the easiest to clean even with my small hands. Nothing a good soak wouldn’t fix though.
Highly recommend and will probably buy another for home if I can get away with it!
Having an insulated pot is genius! So the hot coffee can follow you to your desk, work station etc Works well, although you don’t get too much of a coffee smell while it’s brewing.
For the timer function to work it needs a constant power supply, so if it gets unplugged or there’s a power cut the clock needs resetting, then the timer needs resetting, then turning the timer back on for it to auto on.
Owned for about a month of almost daily use.
Having previously been happy with an in cup mesh filter this flavour is different even with the same water volume to coffee ratio, maybe a little more bitter? I’m still playing with those ratios and coffee type, and I might occasionally go back to my in cup filter for a stronger blast. This can be strong, just different.
Getting the coffee stain out of the pot is something I need to look into.
A nice machine though.
– update 4 years on – still works like a dream, still using lemon juice to descale, still making piping hot coffee to wake up to ( using timer) and more pots than I care to admit throughout the day – awesome machine!
This machine does not seem to have the pre-infusion, the SCAA/SCAE approvals, and I have no idea whether it heats the water to the ideal temperatures. But, with a standard coffee to water ratio and my normal grind size for a pour-over coffee, it just works. It produces very good coffee and it does it more consistently than I ever managed with my pour-over technique. The insulated jug does a brilliant job of keeping the coffee hot for around two hours, and even drinkably warm after three hours. It takes standard size 4 filter papers that I can buy from my local supermarket instead of online or from a specialist coffee shop, or you can put a permanent mesh filter in it.
The machine is plastic for the most part, so it doesn’t feel like a heavy duty or professional piece of kit. But it looks nice enough and performs well, so I have no complaints at all.
I’ve only had it for a few days so I can’t comment yet on durability.
For once in my life, I am happy to admit I was wrong and I am very happy with this coffee machine.
Been using the machine for a couple of months, almost daily and have not had any bother with it at all.
– A well built machine + very attractive design.
– The double wall Stainless Steel interior thermal jug is just perfect.
Coffee is still hot enough after more than two hours and still tastes good.
– Easy to install.
– Easy to use.
– Easy to clean.
– Yes, it has a TIMER, which means I get up to hot coffee every morning even after a lie in.
Very easy to use and set the timer which by the way stores your set time so no need to keep inputting it.
– It has an aroma setting Aroma Selector which makes even lovelier coffee.
The taste is even better than my old machine using the same coffee.
– Most of it is plastic but it seems of a good quality.
– The LED lights are very bright when set on timer but they shouldn’t draw much power and do offer a pleasant night light in the kitchen.
I’m very happy with it and would happily recommend!
It’s easy to clean and the lid comes off of the pot easily. The water thank is not removable, so use the pot to fill up the water.
The timer works as expected. Brewing is fairly quiet and fast. Resulting coffee tasted great and nice and hot.
When it comes to coffee I have a whole litany of devices…French Press, Bialetti, V60, Clever Dripper, Tassimo, Dolce Gusto and an Andrew James Bean-to-cup filter coffee machine. Other than the French press I’ve never been able to find something that brews coffee how I like it…strong, full bodied and hot.
Well my search is over, this machine is absolute perfection for me. 1 proper mug of coffee is 2 large cups on their scale (3 small cups). 14g of ground coffee is the perfect amount with the intensity dial up to maximum. With that you’re going to get a very flavourful mug.
Brew time is a couple of minutes and isn’t overly loud. There is no beep when it’s done so you do have to check it, although it’s pretty obvious once it’s done as dripping stops.
It comes with 5 Melitta Gourmet filters and these are perfect for me but I’ve yet to try any others.
Update – the swing arm on our machine sheared and we required a replacement unit. The plastic is actually quite thin at this junction so care should be taken when washing. Hughes direct were brilliant however, they replaced the whole machine with a new one and DPD provided the replacement the next day, taking the faulty one in return.
Enjoy your brews. ED
I’m not yet convinced by the “aroma” dial on the top. I confess that I’ve not played around with it a lot, in part due to the fact that I have yet to find any information as to what exactly it is supposed to actually do. I just leave it on “Intense”, just like me…
This is a really good coffee maker. The timer function is good as who doesn’t like waking up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the insulated coffee pot keeps my coffee warm for hours, which is good for me as i can just wander out and pour myself a new cup without having to wait for it to reboil. Also as it is insulated as opposed to having a heating element underneath stops the coffee from burning and getting bitter. I’ve had coffee makers in the past, and this is by far the best. One sounded like a jet engine taking off as it brewed but this is much quieter, only really making noise as it drains the last few drops of water from its reservoir. It has a decalcify setting, which ive not used yet, but it apparently alerts you when it has too much of a build up. It has an adjustable intensity setting so you can make it as weak or as strong as you like (as much as your ground coffee will allow anyway!)
Function – it quickly makes a large pot of coffee. I’ve always favoured filter/drip method and this machine makes the most of the ground coffee you put into the filter cone. I deliberately avoided hot plate machines as they never work and simply destroy flavour. This machine uses a very well constructed double walled stainless steel jug. It genuinely keeps the coffee close to its original temperature for a good couple of hours and maintains the flavour/structure of the brewed coffee. I suspect that it you keep the jug (after brewing!) out of the holder, then it may well keep the coffee hot for longer (obviously, when in the holder, the jug valve opens to let the brewed coffee in! Out of the holder then the valve is closed and the jug is tight shut, keeping the heat in a bit more…maybe?!). The water reservoir is a little awkward, but nothing to get fussed about – I can easily pour in water using a large coffee mug to get the exact measure of water. No drips. And no drips when brewing – you may well need to maintain the valve on the jug to make sure that it freely depresses when placing the jug in its holder, but that would be longer term. Common sense, really!
Form – well it’s a bit lumpen, but it does have enough stainless steel to make it acceptable to look at. In many ways, it’s compact given the volume of coffee it can brew. Buttons are easy to operate and, to be honest, it’s really simple to operate anyway – water in/filter paper in/coffee in/jug in/press on button/wait a few minutes/drink coffee! Jug is quite attractive in a functional way – very easy to operate with one hand and nicely balanced. Excellent all round.
So – I highly recommend this coffee maker. Can’t see how you could improve it given its shape/design.
Anyway, after initial cleaning of the machine by running water through it twice, I brewed some coffee.
My previous machine, I thought, produced good strong coffee after some trial and error.
I used the same measure of coffee with this new machine as I personally like it very strong and the output is far more concentrated! I might be due to the proprietary filters provided, but I doubt they’d make that much of a difference.
So it does it’s job well and the coffee is good and as strong as you like it .
I don’t know yet how long the coffee is likely to stay warm for, but the thermal jug is a far better option than a heated machine base for better tasting coffee. Moreover, the jug is well sealed and the exterior doesn’t heat up at all so that bodes well for the contents staying warm for a couple of hours at least depending on how full it is.
The unit is also very easy to clean and I foresee keeping it clean, hygienic and looking as good as new over the long term should be quite easy.
All said it’s worth four stars 🙂 could have been five if it had less plastic. I guess that ‘Luxury’ would have cost me at least an extra hundred.
The machine works well and is very quick with the brew cycle, I have read other reviews that complained about this type of caraf not keeping their coffee hot enough but I just pour in some boiled water from my kettle while I am grinding up some beans and that heats up the jug nicely. Just tip the water back into the kettle and brew away, coffee always steaming hot and will stay that way even an hour or more later and because the jug is a thermous and not kept heated by an electric base, the coffee is not bitter later on for a second cup. I am using the Melitta Gourmet filters and I can really taste the difference, superior to a conventional filter. The only negitive thing I can say is that I had to pay 2 seperate shipping charges due to the filters being back ordered and the shipping to Australia was a drag. Amazon was the cheapest with shipping of any other site to get this machine to OZ by 50GBP and since I ordered 5 boxes of filters I am fixed for the next year. Delivery was a day earlier than stated on the original email invoice so that was a plus+
It produces good coffee quickly and reliably. It is convenient, easy to use, easy to clean. Keeps the coffee warm for several hours – if you want the longest time, pre-warm the pot, it only takes a few seconds.
Probably would have preferred a slightly larger capacity personally but that is a small issue. Note that the “cups” measures bear little resemblance to reality (not Melitta’s fault, they are standard sizes). You will want to use the full “10 cup” capacity to get 4 full mugs of black coffee. A full load takes slightly over 6 minutes to make (on the full flavour setting, not adjusted that so don’t know if it makes a difference I’m afraid).
This machine is even better than the old one. It is neat, well made and brews the coffee quickly. Clear markings on the water tank make it easy to part fill it to a specified level.
I’m not sure how much I’ll use the timer, but probably more often than I thought I might before I got this machine. It is easy to set if you follow the instructions, and works as it should.
I have not yet tried the full range of intensity settings, so am not sure how effective that bit of the design is – but the coffee has tasted good at the settting I’ve tried so far – all towards the more intense end of the spectrum.
The coffee stays hot for at least two hours and will still be warm next morning if brewed the previous evening. I always drink mine with hot milk anyway, and get through a pot reasonably quickly, so cooling down is not a problem. The thermal jug keeps the coffee tasting better for longer than glass jugs and a heated stand.
It came fitted with a UK plug.
I’m in my seventies now and have drunk a lot of filter coffee since I was in my teens.
Highly recommended if you like filter coffee.
