The Aroma Selector function ensures you constantly get the best taste, in a practical way without having to change the amount of water or coffee.
Practical timer feature
The timer feature with LED display gives you seductive coffee enjoyment when you want it. Programme a time for your coffee machine to start brewing and allow yourself (for example) to be woken up with the smell of fresh coffee. The appliance switches on automatically at the time you set.

LOVELY QUALITY MACHINE
Fantastic machine and works, and keeps coffee hot even after 5 hours. Bought on sale on Amazon at half price of RRP so grab one. It keeps coffee hot via the thermos flask mechanism and thus needs no hotplate that some say cooks the coffee. I have a proper expresso machine as well and this was for the larger family, and all seem to enjoy the convenience. I have not used the timer function yet as I have no need of that.

Amazing Filter Coffee Machine!
Absolutely love everything about this machine – it’s super easy to use and makes amazing coffee, it’s quick, easy to clean, looks good in my kitchen – I don’t have anything negative to say about it. I’ll never drink instant coffee again.
Superb
I stayed with my sister for a couple of days before Christmas & she had one of these coffee makers & I was so impressed with how it worked I ordered one when I got home. The main reason was the thermal coffee pot that keeps your brewed coffee hot for ages. Once your coffee is made the machine switches off saving you on your electricity bill – what’s not to like about that. If I’m working I can take the coffee pot with me & have a top up. I don’t need a heat resistant mat as the base is cool & I don’t seem to be wasting as much coffee as it’s not over brewed. Love the fact that it has a timer but haven’t used that yet. Overall I would highly recommend
Wish I'd bought soone
A year ago I bought the Melitta aromaboy because it was only 35. I mostly liked the coffee it made but on occasion it would be a little bitter. A month ago I smashed the jug and couldn’t find a replacement so I bought this.
It cost me 48 but it is at least 5x better than the aromaboy. Every coffee has been delicious.
All Coffee Machines should be made like this!
I’ve tried a few coffee makers with hot plates and found with the best will in the world the coffee is cold and stewed after 40 minutes. I like to leave it longer than that between cups and making more coffee is a faff so when I read that this was thermal I was intrigued.
It works. It absolutely works. The timer kicks in at half past eight when my husband grabs his first mug and when I go for mine at half past nine it’s still hot and fresh. By lunchtime there is still hot, fresh coffee in the jug from the morning. It’s amazing. No hotplate, just a thermal jug.
Frankly I’m baffled why other manufacturers persist with hot plates when Melitta have found the perfect solution.
Great Coffee Machine
Let me start by saying I love my coffee. I guess we all have our own vices and mine is coffee. I have been using french press for a long time and was happy with it than I found out filtered coffee tastes a lot better so I decided to give it a try. After few days of research I bought this one. One of the main reason was break proof jug as I am very clumsy. It a very nice looking machine fits well in my kitchen, very easy to use no millions of buttons to press, you can adjust aroma to your liking, very easy to clean and most importantly it does not drip at all. You can set timer if you want to wake up for a nice cup off coffee in the morning though I have not used it myself. I hear you are saying what about the taste as that was the main reason you said you were looking for a filter coffee machine. This machine brews wonderful coffee, I love it. It is very good value for money, no glass jug to replace if it is broken which I read, some cost almost as much as the machine itself. Overall I am very happy with this purchase.
Edited on 28/10/2021
I finally tested timer function and it works absolutely fine.
I also tested how long the coffee will stay hot. After an hour and fifty minutes my coffee was still hot and was as good as it was brewed in the first place.
Might be the best coffee machine I've ever bough
I have owned quite a lot of coffee machines and methods of brewing coffee over the years and I think this machine might be my favourite for every day use. Easy to clean and by far my favourite feature is the insolated jug. I have had times where I’ve gone to the jug 5-6 hours later and the coffee is still hot. No longer worrying about a hot plate being on or not. Highly recommend this product.
An excellent coffee machine for the price
I bought this coffee machine to replace an old 20 basic coffee filter machine that was 2 years old and had finally given up on me and this is a product worth reviewing.
I like to brew coffee every morning but don’t have much interest in machines with fancier features & silly prices. This machine was a revelation however – the thermal flask is exceptional at keeping coffee warm, a good 6-7 mugs worth kept easily piping hot for 3-4 hours after brew, and with no hot plate the flavour stays perfect. This alone is well worth the money, as my previous machine had a manual keep warm feature that would warm up the coffee hot plate for 15 more minutes but we always forgot and ended up microwaving a tepid mug’s worth which really depletes its flavour.
The timer feature is also handy for setting up the night before.
Overall, good brand, well made machine, excellent brews, and the price is great. Highly recommended.
Excellent sleek looking coffee machine
This is for making filter coffee when guests come over. Easy to use, keeps the coffee fairly warm and a well made piece of equipment. Can’t fault it.
Great coffee machine
I’m loving this machine for my morning coffees. Filters are easy to get and reasonably priced (unlike the capsule con). The one slight reservation I have is about the Calc button which stays on permanently even after descaling a month in. That niggle isn’t affecting the machine’s operation or my delight in using it everyday.
Easy to use and clea
The coffee machine looks good and is very efficient and really easy to clean. I warm the coffee jug before use as otherwise I don’t think the coffee is warm enough and with no hot plate it doesn’t warm with time. I am not sure just how long the coffee will stay warm for but I have had hot coffee after 45 minutes. I am still experimenting with the settings to find the perfect cup of coffee but otherwise this machine does what it says on the tin.
Good flavoured coffee
I found it confusing to just start the machine without using the timer. I therefore press the timer to 1 and press start and it works. Apart from that the coffee is excellent and it keeps hot in the thermos flask and is easy to clean.
Hot coffee in style
This is a fantastic product as it is well-designed and keeps the coffee hot for many hours. The product appears to be sturdy and of good quality.
Unfortunately the product from Amazon Warehouse arrived with a dent in the jug (not specified in the description) which spoiled the experience. I did not return the item due to the Covid pandemic situation.
I later bought another jug to replace the dented one.

It boils water and makes coffee!
Pros. Easy to use. Quality construction. Excellent for keeping coffee hot (thermos jug). Processes full tank quickly.
Cons. Seems to calc up quite quickly which means, after about a week, the processing time slows down because it keeps switching off to cool down, then fires back up afsin until it’s finished. De-calc and it’s back to normal. I checked the hardness of our water and its classed as ‘moderate’ so work that out for your own area.
How can you score the flavour? Surely that depends on the coffee!
Overall I’d recommend. We use it every morning and it works a treat.

Decent coffee, kept warm
Where this machine really shines in convenience. I have it set to brew at 8am so it’s ready for my first meeting of the day and the jug keeps the coffee warm for a surprisingly long time – even going back at 1pm I get a perfectly drinkable cup.
I find the coffee a bit weak with the same quantity of grounds I use in a cafetiere but a couple of extra scoops and it makes a decent cup. Recommended if you want reliably good coffee throughout your morning.
Insulated Jug Creates Difference
I can say this was one of my recent best buys. The insulated jug keeps the coffee hot for 2 hours and warm for another hour. The most important part is the taste doesn’t change, unlike the hot plate machines, the coffee is like freshly prepared even after 2 – 3 hours.
Descaler alert is another plus as I always forget to do it. The timer works as expected.
No issues after 6 months of everyday use.

Provides speedy, essential caffeine fix first thing!
I do love my Melitta coffee machine, having had a Ninja that went wrong previously. It’s the first thing I do when I get to the kitchen in the morning – load it with water and coffee and get on with making kids school lunches in the morning and within a few short minutes, I have my essential, tasty coffee freshly brewed! The only slight gripe is that it’s slightly tricky to pour the water into the reservoir but you soon get used to it and it’s worth it.
One of the best products I've ever bought!
Bought this 14 months ago, been using it every day and it’s worked flawlessly without fail. I only bother writing reviews on products I’m really impressed with and this is seriously one of the best things I’ve ever bought. It’s superbly designed and engineered and oozes quality, even the filter door closes with a really satisfying click. Really easy to use, we have it on timer and get woken up with the smell of fresh coffee every morning. It uses an insulated stainless steel jug rather than a hot plate. This is very robust and far less likely to break than a glass jug. It keeps the coffee hot for a good 2 hours or more and it’s really easy to clean. Rinse it out after each use and I disolve a dishwasher tablet in every couple of weeks once the inside starts to stain and it comes up like new. I’m not a passionate environmentalist, but the pod coffee machines seem to create an lot of unnecessary waste which was another reason for buying a filter machine. I use the unbleached biodegradable filters, which are cheap and go straight in the compost bin. It won’t make fancy latte macchiatos, or cortardos, but if you like a decent honest cup of filter coffee, look no further.
A filter coffee maker that doesn't stew the coffee, yippee!
I was slightly sceptical as to wether this would make and keep the coffee hot enough but needn’t have been.
The thermos jug keeps coffee hot enough for 2-3 hours, which is normally as long as it lasts in our household.
On the very rare occasion we/I have been a bit slow, the coffee stays hotter for longer and when only one cup has been poured before work gets in the way, the coffee still plenty hot enough after 3 hours in the jug.
If we leave about a third of the jug for any longer than the aforementioned 2-3 hours then we do put the coffee in the microwave to add just a little extra heat as we like our coffee HOT!
I have played with the timer and it works perfectly well but doesn’t get used as it only takes a few minutes to brew the coffee.
Best of all, no stewed coffee as after it is brewed the thermos jug keeps it hot with no continual heating applied.
Overall, pleased and impressed.
Timer function is not practical but overall good
Overall it is ok. Keeps the coffee warm. Thermos is a great idea and a great part of this machine. But when it comes to timer function it is not ok and makes me annoyed. Time disappears when you off the plug. You have to re-set the time whenever you put the plug on. No memory. So, time consuming. So I don’t use timer function. Water tank is not removable so not easy to clean. Now 3-4 months back and used around 20 times and its calc button is on now. I think this is too fast to build calc. I will look for a de-calc product now. Again overall it is ok. But I would go for the one water tank is removable if I was a new buyer.
Very nice coffee make
This is the best filter coffee machine I have ever had. The coffee is piping hot when first brewed. There is a strength adjustment which I have on the lowest setting. The thermal jug keeps the coffee hot enough for me to drink up to three hours from brewing. There is a decalcify reminder that comes on dependant on how hard the incoming water. You have to manually set the range and the time between decalcification warnings depends on this setting. I have not used the timer and never will so cannot comment on this. One thing to watch for is that the coffee machine will not work if the time has not been set. So if there is a power cut or somebody unplugs the machine you have to re-set the time. Shame it does not have a battery backup to keep the time going.
Melitta Filter Coffee Machine
A brilliant machine. Easy to operate and lovely hot coffee. I did think about having the gold filter but decided on the paper ones and i am glad i did as it is so easy to throw the paper filter away when coffee making finished – no coffee grounds all over the place. Would recommend as far superior to a coffee machine with a hot plate at the base. May be a bit more expensive but well worth it.
A must have!
This is day 1, day 1 of waking up to coffee freshly brewed, no more cleaning out the Cafetiere! Easy to set up and clean the parts before use, it’s not a long list of instuctions, it’s simple and straight forward. I read all the reviews on here before purchasing, majority 4/5 stars. Some were negative, but no problems so far! Just be careful with coffee to water ratio and measure out your coffee first! I like the fact it keeps the coffee hot, i woke up an hour after it brewed. I recommend, very happy customer!
Love this
I bought this to try something different from the milky espresso based drinks I have been consuming for the last few years. After a bit of research this one seemed to be the best value for money.
After a few attempts, I managed to get a good flavour, still adding a bit of milk and sugar. Then I decided to try just straight from the jug. Wow what a revelation, the difference each regional type of coffee makes to flavour. The shear amount of intense flavours that you can achieve. The hardest thing I have now is limiting the amount I consume. Would highly recommend this, the fact that the brew is kept warm for hours by the insulated jug rather than a heating plate means the flavours remain unchanged as it doesn’t stew.
Keeps coffee warm for ages, easy clean and no burnt taste.
The coffee stays hot for several hours (long enough to ensure it is all gone before it goes cold!) and it has a button pour feature which helps keep the coffee closed to the air and warmer for longer. This machine makes a nice smell of coffee when brewing but it doesn’t linger as once the coffee has made its way into the thermos there is no further significant evaporation as in other ‘hot plate’ type machines..
I like that it doesn’t use a hot plate as these can burn the coffee or create burnt stains in the bottom of pots and are a bit of a hazard. The thermos approach is much better for keeping the coffee tasting right and since it isn’t burnt in the pot, I only ever have to rinse the pot in cold water whilst collecting the water for the next round. These design choices make the pot great for offices where people can be a bit ignorant of turning things off/watching things. I also like how the filter holder unfolds right out and that the insert removes for a quick rinse making this a very easy to clean machine. No complaints at all, wish I had picked 2 up when they were on offer.

A decent mug of coffee and kept hot in the pot!
The machine makes the coffee very quickly and it stays hot because of the vacuum flask. It is easy to clean and the filter papers are easy to insert and take out. The instructions of how to turn it on and the timings could be a lot clearer, but once I had worked it out, this is a real treat. I get the smell of freshly made coffee and a huge pot all to myself – delicious on these cold days.

Great machine, energy efficie
The hotplate on our old machine broke after 10 years so I eventually decided on this as a replacement. It’s great for saving energy as the jug is insulated instead of having a hotplate, and has features I like such as the timer function and intensity dial. The water hardness/descale function is a nice feature, though it’s only really a glorified countdown timer!
Coffee easily stays hot for a couple of hours. Makes good tasting coffee (as you’d expect); good value for money. Happy with this purchase.
Worth the extra investme
I bought the Melitta after breaking my glass filter coffee jug and couldn’t find a replacement. I didn’t really think there could be a difference in filter coffee machines but I was wrong! Goodbye tepid coffee hello hot aromatic coffee. The insulated jug keeps the coffee piping hot. The paper filter system really improved the coffee taste added with the intensity feature. The timer is simple to use once you set the clock and it only takes a few minutes to produce a full jug of coffee. It for me was definitely worth the extra investment.
The vacuum flask was a great idea
It makes coffee as expected. The coffee ends up in a steel vacuum flask and stays drinkable for quite some time, which is exactly why I bought it.
I don’t use the timer function so I can’t comment on that. I make coffee when I get up, it takes about 5 minutes to have a cup of hot coffee in my cup.
Great Coffee Make
This is a great coffee maker. Simple and easy to use. One of the things that I so like is the timer. Since I start work early in the morning its so nice to have the coffee ready and waiting. Insulated jug is certainly a bonus keeps the coffee warm for awhile. I am very happy with this coffee maker and its working prefectly well. I sincerely hope it lasts for a long time.
This is for the thermos based coffee make
This model has both good and bad. The Thermos stops the coffee getting “stewed”, however it is difficult to pour all the coffee our and the design cannot be washed out to remove old coffee stains easily. The jug cannot be used to fill up the machine, requiring another “jug2 to fill the machine with water. It is however easy to top up with another jug as the lid does not get in the way as my previous machines did.
There is a seperate “swing out” part at the front which makes adding the paper filter (no mesh filter provided, which for me means less to wash/clean, however others will find this a disadvantage.
The machine is quick to make the coffee and turns off (no heat pad because coffee kept hot by flask) which means coffee does not stew and requires less power consumption.
Superb cup of coffee
I had been using a filter coffee machine from another maker, for a couple of years, and although I was happy with it, I had the urge to try something new. After trawling through the endless list of available machines, I decided on the Melitta filter machine. I was pleasantly surprised at the improvement in performance. It is easy to use, brews quickly and quietly, and makes a superb cup of coffee. I also like the insulated jug which keeps your coffee hot for a couple of hours, if required. It is a better solution, than the hot plate of my previous machine, which if left for any length of time, tended to stew the coffee. Finally, it is also easy to clean, which is always a bonus.
Simple to use, good coffee
I bought this product to replace a basic coffee machine with a glass jug (which eventually broke). We have used it 3 times and so far so good. I always warm the jug with hot water from the tap before use and have found that the coffee remains hot (I understand that you can’t do that with the timer function). We have a basic metal cafetire which we use when camping and have always done this.
The machine is easy to clean and easy to use. In relation to the descaling setting it was simple enough to find out online how hard our water was. We have the intensity level set to maximum and it produces nice coffee.
We don’t leave it plugged in all the time so have to reset the clock every time we use it however I don’t actually set the time I just press the minute button once and the machine works (when you read the instructions you will see what I mean). All in all pleased with the product.
Best coffee investme
Simple put, if you’re not going to spend 500 on a state of the art coffee machine that makes different kinds of coffee and all the extra works, this is definitely the next best thing. It works beautifully. The flavour of the coffee is great, the timer is easy to use and it’s very easy to clean. I am thoroughly enjoying this coffee maker after using it for over a week now. I will update this review if there’s Wong but otherwise, buy it, it’s fantastic

Excellent, the best filter maker I have ever had.
Was disappointing noted the nanny state had taken away hot plates that stay on… then I found this with a thermal jug and a timer and a strength dial.
So how does it perform.
The jug is brilliant, no drips, no leakage, the lid pops up when you pour and drops neatly back down, again with no leaks and it pours lovely. The coffee stays warm for ages, I would say a good three hours and it is still very drinkable.
The strength dial is brilliant, I like strong coffee and usually find filter makers a bit thin on strength, this one has a dial which slows down the drip over the coffee and therefore the strength increases. A full jug on max strength takes about 8 minutes to filter.
The timer was a bonus. Way to set and then just leave if you want the same time ever day for a wake up brew. You set the time and press the timer button and that’s it
If I was going to quibble then I would say a dimmer for the clock would be nice, it seems manufacturers think consumers want bright blue light everywhere. The clock is illuminated constantly with a blue background, it’s not overly bright and if it’s in the kitchen it won’t keep you awake but it would be a nice option to be able to switch the backlight off or down.
In the UK and I would expect a lot of other places we drink mugs not cups. The scale on the water tank is in cups, small and large with a maximum of 12 small cups. A small cup is 60ml, a big cup is 125ml.. for us mug drinkers its 250 to 300ml required, so expect 4 to 6 mugs out of the tank . The tank is an average size for these machines.
Quibbles our of the way, I would recommend this machine, mine has been used almost every day since it arrived. Timer switched on and wake up to the smell of fresh coffee…. just need a bacon sandwich making machine on a timer and my world would be complete
So easy to use.
I treated myself to this as a birthday present to replace my one cup machine. The insulated jug works brilliantly and keeps the coffee warm for hours without stewing it. The timer function is also brilliant and it means that I don’t have to mess about in the morning, I can just pour myself a good cup of coffee as soon as I wake up ( provided I remember to set it up the night before.)
I highly recommend this machine.
A rich blend of features and desig
I tend to do a bit of research before buying products such as this and the Melitta Filter Coffee Machine was highly recommended. I now understand why. The Meitta has a considerably smaller footprint than our previous coffee machine and looks rather elegant on the worktop. Cleaning the machine is always a chore, but the design of the Melitta Filter Coffee Machine makes the task less onerous than it might be. You quickly start to wonder how you ever managed without the timer function. Waking to freshly brewed coffee is a treat that never gets old. And what excellent coffee it is too!
Had this a few days now. Very simple to use and clean, as in no drips when you take the jug out with your brewed coffee in it. The timer is also a great function, as we set it to 8am, so not only can you smell the coffee coming from the kitchen, you also wake up to a fresh pot of coffee.
Would certainly recommend

Some good and bad points.
We’ve had this for few months now.
Not really sure what to think about it. It’s got some good features like timer or insulated jug. It tells you when it needs descaling. Although that’s quite annoying cause mine needs it very often and I use filter water from BRITA jug. Maybe Brita doesn’t work like it should or the coffee machine sensor isn’t very accurate.
I kinda struggle with keeping the jug clean. The lid also seems to keep some water stuck inside which isn’t very good.
Another good point. It is actually non drip. I’ve never had any coffee dripping after removing the jug. Good as I’ve had machines that were dripping when you removed jug even though it had non drip feature.
Coffee tastes nice, but not as good as from high end machines.
I think for 50 that we paid it was a good purchase. I wouldn’t probably pay more though.

I think for 50 that we paid it was a good purchase. I wouldn’t probably pay more though.
Amazing coffee make
This coffee machine is amazing. Firstly and most importantly it makes gorgeous coffee. It is incredibly easy to use: just pop in a compostable paper filter, add water and coffee and push go. Within a few minutes you have lovely piping hot coffee. The timer function works really well (if you’re organised enough to set it up the night before). The thermal jug is absolutely brilliant and keep the coffee warm for hours. If I make a pot at 0530 it is still hot at lunchtime. It also pours really easily and does not dribble coffee all over the counter when pouring. My only slight negative is that you can’t put the jug in the dishwasher but not a big deal
We live in a very hard water area and have always found descaling a chore. It is very easy to use the descale on this machine. The machine tells you when you need to descale. Then you just need to fill it with descaling solution and push go. After running for 25mins it is done and you just rinse it through a couple times.
Overall this is a fabulous coffee maker and four months after making our purchase we have no regrets.

I don't normally write reviews - Great Coffee Maker - Super Ho
As I said, I don’t normally write reviews but feel I owe this product a review. If you’re reading this your likely wondering, if it has a timer so you can wake up to fresh coffee and YES it does! You’re also wondering if its actually HOT? Yes it is, this was the biggest win for me, it is hotter than expected, I got a shock at how hot the brew is. The thermo jug is the best, it keeps it hot for a surprisingly long time. 4 hours after and you can enjoy a hot brew.
1st hour – very hot.
1 to 2 hours – hot
2 to 4 hours – still hot but not lip burning
4 hours plus stays warm and still enjoyable.
– Great Coffee Maker – coffee tastes nice.
We use 4 big spoons of coffee to a full water jug and get 4 xlarge mugs of coffee
2 big spoons of coffee to a half full water jug and get 2 xlarge mugs of coffee.
For the price, serious value for money you won’t be disappointed

Great purchase
I’ve had my eye on one of these for awhile. So far no issues whatsoever. The insulated jug holds coffee warm for a couple of hours and because it’s not on a hot plate the coffee does not become bitter. Water reservoir easy to fill. Coffee filling easy to. Not sure how easy it will be to clean as I’ve not had it long enough. I only use filtered water so should be some time. No issue with spout dribbling. Service and delivery good.
Excellent machine, jug keeps coffee HOT for HOURS!
Let’s just clear up one thing though….125ml isn’t a large cup of coffee! I drink from a Le Creuset mug which holds 350ml (12oz), so if I fill my mug with 125ml it’s only a third full! A small cup is laughable, it’s more like a shot! So ignore the stated 10 large cups of coffee. If you’re drinking from a mug you are talking about just over 4 cups of coffee.
Now to answer the main question. Does this jug keep hot for hours? YES! Amazing! TIP… I rinse out jug with hot tap water before I start brewing to warm up metal. I can go back to this jug 4 hours later and it’s still hot with the same taste! I’ve went back several hours later and it’s not hot but still drinkable warm.
Does this machine have a hot plate? NO…and you don’t want one. A hot plate keeps “cooking” the coffee, which leads to a weird yuk taste after a while. This jug keeps it hot anyway, basically it’s a thermos double walled metal flask.
Tip…all filter machines leak steam at the end of the brewing so either pull machine out/place on counter without cupboards above or pop on a trolley in your kitchen. Otherwise the steam can effect underneath top cupboards. All machines do this, it isn’t a fault.
I LOVE this machine! I’ve spent stupid amounts on machines over the years. I’ve had many Nespresso machines (love the convenience and taste but expensive for the amount we drink). I’ve had a Sage Barista Express (epic to look at, fancy near professional latte art BUT machine developed faults, which you don’t expect for an expensive machine) I NEVER thought id go backwards to a filter machine…EVER! I adore the rich flavours from an espresso shot, I’m a sucker for latte and it’s art. But I’m also aware how the rich rob the poor and I refuse to pay any more “hicked” prices for a machine and it’s superior products when after all its just coffee! We know where it goes. So I’ll enjoy my “luxury” cups when out and take in the atmosphere. But for the home caffeine kick this is all you need. We get sucked into the world of “be a barista” in your own home, blindly manipulated that we must daily be drinking “the best” whilst lining the pockets of the rich.
If you drink a lot of coffee and want it fast throughout the day. Save your penny’s and buy this. A jug…with hot coffee…available for hours! Coffee doesn’t have a plastic taste (which put me off ever buying one again) and if you like it strong then set dial to strong, pick a strong coffee and you’re good to go. Yes it doesn’t have the “solid” feeling to the machine it’s self, it’s plastic. But the jug is solid. You can take your jug to any room, a wee jug of milk and sugar too and not have to go back to your kitchen. Hell, why not bring it with you on your next picnic or long car journey? If you are a Gilmore Girl, then this is for you!
Any reviews mentioning a leaky jug when pouring, please be advised that the company fixed the fault and redesigned the jug. So if it starts leaking, send back…you have the old version.
Hope my words/photo’s or video (if it uploads) are of some help to any potential buyers out there.

I’m not sure why people say it’s easy to clean… The carafe has a small opening there’s no way I can wipe the inside without baby sized hands. I need a special tool lol it’s gonna get coffee oily.
Regarding taste.
1. I recommend preheating some water through (+ your empty filter) before making coffee because otherwise you get low temps in the starting drops of about 65 degrees C.
2. The aroma selector LOL. Basically it is a wide shower drip for ‘low aroma’ but narrow central drip for ‘ high aroma’.
So… Not really aroma. If you leave it on Max then you’ll have only a heavy splattering single central drip. Which may mean higher extraction for the central coffee grounds, but not the rest…
I recommend thinking of it as a serving size dial.
If you have 1-4 cups you’ll want a narrower shower drip pattern so you’re not just dropping water widely onto the plastic sides of the filter holder.
If you are making ‘4-12’ cups then your ground coffee is going to take up more of the V shaped filter, so you can add a wider spray by selecting ‘lower’ aroma on the dial, so that all the coffee you’d like can get at least directly hit by some water, that way you’re not under extracting the edge grounds.
If you want… You can preinfuse on a wider shower pattern to moisten the grounds evenly and then reduce the drip pattern a bit to ensure you’re not just watering the sides of the filter holder for the whole time.
It’s not the most finely tuned mechanism… I recommend running the machine just with the whole assembly swung out so that you can see the shower head work at different dual positions, so you can really understand what’s going on. Don’t forget a bowl to catch the water…
I have fun with this machine and the aroma selector I believe is actually very useful, just not necessarily as they advertise. It allows control of brewing but not just straight up and down scale of increasing aroma – that’s misleading.

Better than expected
This coffee machine may cost you more than the regular basic one but it does everything and more. It controls water hardness, it spreads coffee aroma in the kitchen, the timer works beautifully, it looks fancy on the kitchen top and the insulate jug does an outstanding work to keep it worm for longer (without the need to have a hot plate re-warming the coffee and leaving the bitter taste in it). Another good thing about insulate jars is that you can always make the coffee extra hot if you warm it up with boiling water first before brewing the coffee, but dont get me wrong this machine already makes a decent hot coffee.
On a final note I would say, I have bought the “other cheaper brand” and it literally broke in 1 day (!!) and I had to return it. So yes, you know what I am talking about, just spend the extra money for the quality my friend…
Very Impressed
Changed to this Melitta when our old Morphy Richards coffee machine broke down after years of daily use. Our old one had a reusable gold washable filter. We bought this one and have been using the Melitta paper bio degradable filters. we thought that would be a nuisance, but no. Actually makes things easier for the composting. BUT WOW! What a difference it makes to the flavour of the coffee! Incredible! We haven’t changed our brand so we know its the machine/filters. Far less grainy and clean tasting. The stainless steel flask keeps the coffee warm for at least 2-3 hours and is easy to rinse out. The filter holder again just needs a quick rinse. Timer and clock easy to use and reset after switching off if you get a power interruption.
Tip, buy some Melitta anti calc as this machine has a built in warning reminder for you to de-calc. Ours alerted after a month. We administered the tablet and flushed it through as instructed to keep the element from scaling up inside and the water clean. Machine not too big. Recommend.
If you need coffee keeping hotter for longer, then look no furthe
I, like many others, was annoyed to find that we have adopted this EU rule where hot plates are no longer allowed to be on for more than something ridiculous like 20 minutes.
As someone who does not have to have 16 cups of coffee in the morning, I needed some way to keep my coffee warm until I got around to wanting my second cup without having to make an individual cup every time.
I hunted high & low to see if anyone still had a coffee maker with a hot plate that lasted longer than the time it took me to drink my first cup, but alas, the EU had yet again ruined something else for us it seems – hot coffee.
Someone suggested I look for a coffee maker with a thermos jug, which I had seen before but hadn’t thought much about – until I then discovered the EU rule.
I looked at a few brands & whilst I initially settled on a different one, the reviews were concerning as they revealed that a lot of these thermos jugs were exploding. That was not good.
I even considered a normal glass one, but even they had reviews claiming the jugs were breaking, exploding or handles falling off – jeez, how hard is it to get a decent coffee maker these days?
Then I found this coffee machine & whilst it was more than I initially set out to pay, the reviews all seemed to be fairly positive & there was no glass inside the jug. No reports of explosions, handles falling off, or any other weird occurrences – which is what settled it for me.
As someone who doesn’t need to be able to stand my spoon in my coffee, I was quite content just finding something that not only made me drinkable coffee but also filtered out the bits. This one apparently has some sort of strength setting but to be honest I don’t have strong coffee anyway so I can’t comment on that.
I previously used a coffee press but found that no matter how careful I was, there was always some grinds that made it through to the cup.
This, however, solved that problem. Happy days. Now I can take the filter paper out & bin it without having to keep scrapping grinds into the bin or down the toilet etc & then having to rinse the press out & dismantle the filter to get the bits out. Oh, what a joy that was to be rid of that chore every day.
The cup measurements on the water reservoir are perhaps not aimed at mugs. I think this is for those who like super strong, espresso cups. I am not one of them. My mug holds 1/2 pint, so I simply top up however much I envisage drinking that day & away it goes.
Other people have been asking about the “auto-off” since it has no hot plate. To clarify, the auto-off means after it’s emptied the water reservoir, it will detect it’s empty & then shut off after a few minutes.
If it emptied all the water and you added more water, before it switched itself off, it would brew that water also. It has nothing to do with a hot plate since it doesn’t have one. It simply means it shuts itself off a few minutes after its emptied the water, so as not to sit there trying to brew when empty & wasting electric & risking burning out.
The water reservoir is horseshoe-shaped meaning you can fill it from either side of the machine. Handy as you can then put it next to other appliances & still fill it.
It also has a timer, so, I can set it up before bed, set my timer and then my coffee is ready to go when I am. And if I forget, then it’s no big deal since it only takes about 6 minutes to brew anyway. That is apparently just enough time to stare into the abyss and contemplate what new level of hell I will face at work today, whilst I await my caffeine fix to get me through it. Yay.
One person commented about their coffee going mouldy in their machine – I can only assume that if you actually remove your used coffee & replace it with a fresh one, every time you use it then you won’t ever experience this issue.
I can’t honestly see how it can make your coffee go mouldy since you shouldn’t leave it in there for any length of time anyway. And when it’s not in use, I crack the coffee filter holder open slightly to let it air & dry so assuming you aren’t trying to reuse your coffee & filer multiple days on the trot then I can’t see as this will ever be a problem as it’s easy to clean & dry.
I’ve been using mine daily now for a week & am really pleased with it. It’s so easy to clean, easy to fill, easy to set up, keeps the grind-free coffee hot for hours without the risk of burning the house down, exploding jugs or running up the electric bill. What more could I ask for.
Flower Tea and coffee makers heave
I’ve owned this a couple of weeks now and it’s amazing! I literally couldn’t be happier with how useful and versatile this machine is!
This ticks the boxes on:
1) Can pour a cuppa whilst the machine is brewing – yes! And zero drips!
2) Keeps drinks warm for 2+hrs – yes! The thermos is amazing and still steaming after 4hrs, or warm after 7hrs if you rinse hot water round the thermos before using!!!
3) Glass is unbreakable – yes! The thermos is double-walled stainless steel so no scary glass explosions from overheating / too much pressure.
4) Has a set once timer – Yes! Set the start brewing timer once and each time u turn the timer on it’ll start at that time (unless you change it or unplug the machine.)
5) Adjustable calc warning – The calc warning can be manually adjusted and set for the hardness of your water.
6) Can brew flower, herbal and loose leaf black/white teas – Yes! On the strong aroma setting the water showers through slowly into the filter giving the tea 10mins of a near-boiling soaking. Tastes as strong as steeped tea, but keeps it steaming and never stews. Yum yum!
7) Can evenly cover the filter contents – Yes! The filter has a shower head roof, like an overhead shower, not one of the rod sprayers found in most other machines. It very evenly douses your coffee, tea, herbs, flowers etc.
Semi ticks the boxes:
1) Can easily be cleaned – Kind of. The jug lid, jug and filter holder will go in the washing machine, but the water tank cannot be removed for easy cleaning because it is fixed and wrapped around the outside of the unit, I imagine, it’s not going to be much fun to wash out at calc time. Also, the jug, as with most thermos type containers, has a difficult to clean area at the top inside the unit.
Design Flaw:
1) Position of the flow opener on jug – where this is means when one is pouring it’s very easy to get scalded by the steam, so beware!
2) Cable tidy – has a small area of push in cable tidy under the base. But the cable comes out to the right side so if reducing the length it has to then come out to the left side and be externally looped to the right. Also, the amount of space for looping the cable only half reduces its length.
3) Reusable filter – there are dips into the filter area to allow a finger to easily remove the filter holder. This dip will not allow a generic handled reuseable filter to fit it. There is a review which says the mesh only filters, which look like a steel mesh pocket, fit well. I haven’t got one of these and have lots of paper filters to work my way through before trying.
4) Resetting the timer – when adjusting it takes two hands and a bit of dexterity: one to hold the unit, one to press and hold the timer button whilst also adjusting the time buttons.
Coffee:
I like my coffee quite strong and thick. I found on the strong aroma setting the coffee was quite burnt and thus bitter. Adjusting this to medium brewed a lovely flask of coffee. Yum!
Tea:
This machine makes tea making so simple: pour the filtered water in, fold and insert the unbleached filter paper, sprinkle your finer herbs/flowers into the filter followed by your others, press the on button, 12mins later pour. No faffing with kettles, teapots, strainers, or tea cosies. AND, with the timer, waking up to homemade brews is simply heavenly <3

A fantastic coffee machine
I usually don’t take the time to write a review but I kind of felt obligated to write this one since there’s quite a bit of fake information of this product.
So on a beautiful Saturday morning my old coffee machine (Russell Hobbs Buckingham) broke after 18 months of daily use so I started looking for another one quickly since coffee is very much needed on a daily basis 🙂 I was a bit skeptic to order this once since I read a review here saying that the flavor is not so good and bla bla bla and that guy bought a Russell Hobbs Buckingham, the one that I had before, and tadaaa problem solved. Anyway, since you can always return an unwanted product I ordered it anyway since this coffee machine has 1 thing that makes it a winner imo, the thermal jar.
Now after testing it I can tell for sure that this one is far superior to the one that I had before.
1. Flavor is fantastic. Using the same amount of water(measured with the old coffee machine jar) and coffee the favor is far superior, next day I had to cut the amount of coffee by 1 spoon to make it drinkable since the first day was a bit too strong.
2. Thermal jar makes the best of it. I wake up every morning at 4 and my wife at 6.30, this time difference is an inconvenience since every morning she needs to reheat the coffee and we all know that reheated coffee doesn’t really taste the same as the fresh one. Tested 2 mornings in a row, when she woke up the coffee is still hot. So win again.
There are other nice features to mention, ofc, but these 2 for me makes the perfect coffee machine. So if you can afford the amazing 15 extra pounds … go for it 🙂
Wish I'd bought this soone
Really smart filter coffee machine, that also makes a really good cup of coffee!
No pods, so no waste. Machine is only in use whilst brewing the coffee, then keeps warm for a few hours in the insulated jug, so better for the electric bill.
Jug doesn’t spill when pouring, like previous models we’ve had. Stainless steel jug also means it can’t be shattered as has happened in the past.
Swing out coffee granule bin, so not risk of coffee ending up in the water reservoir.
Water can be poured in from both sides of the machine, in a decent side space, so again, not spillages like previous makes of machine.
Consistent and Convenie
Esspresso machines have never appealed to me for home use. After over 10 years of using a french press, a friend was spouting the virtues of his new, 250 drip coffee machine – namely consistency and ease of cleaning. After a bit of research I was sold on the idea of getting a drip machine, but couldn’t bring myself to shell out that much. This Melitta was on sale for 50 so I thought I would give it a shot.
Very happy with the results, after messing around with water/coffee rations and grind-size I am now getting consistent coffee every morning.
I like the fact the thermal jug keeps the coffee warm (hot!) for 2hrs+, so one brew will do 2 cups of coffee each, for my wife and I. I also like that i’s a breeze to clean, the filer and coffee can be lifted out and go straight into the compost bin – much easier than cleaning out a french press.
On the down-side, I’ve found that the taste of the coffee is not as good as “the better” french press brews, however it’s a damn sight better than the ones that were inexplicably weak (or left to brew too long and cold!) – consistency and convenience really are the key words here.
Finally, this machine is paired with a Kitchen Aid Burr Grinder. I use 60g of coffee to “8 large cups” of water (it yields 4 cups, and I consider my mugs to be of average size :). I fill up the reservoir using filtered water to avoid scale issues and have the intensity dial set on “full”. At first I found the coffee to be quite bitter, however making the grind coarser quickly solved this.
Stays hot for ages!
This is a very good product. Coffee makers with hot plates can only stay warm for 40 minutes. This one has no hot plate, just a very well insulated jug. It keeps the coffee hot for at least two hours. I like plenty of strong coffee, ready for me when I wake up. The timer function works very well, and the coffee tastes great. No plastic taste, and a good strength. I use a permanent filter in it which works well but you can use paper ones if you wish. Looks smart too.
The perfect sidekick for COVID times.
I use this coffe machine in my desk. During these COVID times, having a big jug of coffee (that keeps warm for over 3 hours) this has been my fuel. As my home-office is also my room, setting it 5 minutes before the alarm sounds, allows me to just get up and pour a nice mug of coffee -and waking up to the smell of fresh coffe is unbeatable.
The only thing that could improve is the strenght. I bought the intense filters and set it in the full intensity, but I think I need a little extra -but that’s a personal opinion.
Really good machine, absolutely recommended for everyone.

The perfect coffee machine for those lazy mornings
Looking to replace our 10+ year old coffee machine, only to realise there’s no longer a hotplate that keeps your coffee warm for longer than 30 minutes. However this is an amazing alternative. Gone are the days when we have to pop downstairs to fill up our cup for our next coffee. We just take the thermal coffee pot and a milk jug and enjoy a relaxing morning in bed. The coffee stays piping hot for at least 2 hours. The taste is perfect and the timer is set every weekend. Couldn’t live without it. Great when guests are round too. Can’t fault it. Make this your next purchase.

Usually would of used instant coffee in the past, but I decided to take the plunge and buy this machine as I wanted a jug that would hold fresh hot coffee, for a very long while. I decided to buy this as the reviews was constantly over 5* and right so! The Machine is very easy to set up and follow, even for a first-timer in the coffee machine world like me, three standard buttons: power, timer and limescale cleaner, two additional buttons for the display which allows you to set the time, water hardness and timer- (which doesn’t need to be set, as you can just power it when you feel like it). The Jug is VERY sturdy, and a nice little latch control allows you to pour controlled coffee at a steady pace, the insulation is great- no hot plate needed, I set a full brew off at 10AM and by 8PM it was still very hot to drink from! Very pleased with this, it DOES come with 4 filters, but I bought additional as I will be using it a lot more, also comes with no measuring cup, which isn’t a bad thing as most ground coffee bags tell you the rough guide by teaspoon. My only gripe was understanding the water hardness scale, as the machines instructions are measured in dH, so I had to look up my local water supplier in the UK; find the calcium measurement by mg/l and then convert that from English Clark Degrees to dH so I could find it’s optimal water level when filling from the tap.
THE BEST COFFEE MACHINE I HAVE EVER HAD
I have been drinking coffee from a peculator for many decades. This one is the best i have ever had. So many have hot plates that stew the coffee, so that the first cup is great and the rest become bitter the longer they stay on the hot plate. NOT THIS MACHINE. It does not have a hot plate! The coffee pot is built like a thermos flask with two layers, so that the coffee stays hot, like in a thermos flask, for a couple of hours WITHOUT stewing the coffee. To have the great flavour of the coffee from all the coffee in the pot, as hot as the first cup is fantastic. I cannot recommend this coffee machine highly enough, and with NEVER go back to lesser models.
Improved Desig
This is the second Melitta coffee maker I have had and this is much improved. The previous jug had a very poor lip on the jug and it was virtually impossible to pour coffee without spilling it. The lip has been improved in shape and now pours without any dripping.
The addition of a Calc control feature is also a great improvement as I live in a very hard water area. One has to buy the Melitta anti Calc tabs but when the button lights up indicating it needs treatment it is easy to do, takes very little time and is a great improvement.
I thoroughly recommend this coffee maker.
So much easier than any other type of coffee make
So much better than expected. Easy to use and great value for money. Makes great coffee, just rinse out the pot after use and it will season the pot over time to enhance the rich coffee flavour. The timer is great if you want to wake up to the smell of a fresh brewed coffee. I didn’t find the intensity selector made any difference to the flavour. I purchased the fine mesh filter and this saves purchasing filter papers. I’ve just purchased two more as presents, one for my son, home from London on a visit, to take back with him and one for a friend as a house warming present.
Worth the money
This is more expensive than a lot of machines, but having had one of the cheaper ones previously, this one is definitely superior.
It looks stylish and makes a lot of coffee, which stays warm due to the thermos-style coffee pot. Our old machine was terrible for leaking when pouring but this one is perfect. No leaks and pours well. I’m really happy with it as it has both good looks and functionality.
Best Coffee maker yet.
Absolutely great. I had a Ninja coffee bar but there were so many issues with it i.e. clean light on two or 3 times a week despite being cleaned many times. Company told us light was faulty but as it was out of warranty they could do nothing. The coffee in the Ninja was good but the price is around 150 so after some research we settled on this little beauty. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Melitta. It is sturdy and makes wonderful coffee. I dont like weak coffee and this really ticks all the boxes. It does not drip as my more expensive Ninja did and the flavour is superb. So got a perfect machine thst makes great coffee for 100 less than the Ninja. Total win -win situation and we couldn’t be more pleased.

Bes t Coffe Machine I have had
Have had lots of other machines as I have worked from home for years and drink a lot of coffee so liked the timer function on previous machines to be ready after dog walk and then keep the coffee hot
After myold machine died I thought I would give this a go not sure if the flask option would be good compared to the old 2hour hot tray one I had. This has turned out to be so much better, as soon as the coffee is done just take the flask away (not hot to the tpuch at all) and pour as needed, machine is only heating when brewing so should be more effecirent. Coffee is good too
I put a permanent filter in place, the old basket one I had from the olf machine did not fit properly so have a mesh permanent filter which is perfect and easy to clean.
Have even make the coffee put the flask in the car and it was hot over 3 hours later
Love this machine and is used every day, no issues at all
Timer and clock setting are easy as is filling and cleaning, we are in a very soft water area so cannot comment on scaling, although there are settings for this as well which as well explained too
Brilliant coffee machine! LOVE the coffee pot!
Love love love this coffee machine, so glad I bought it…
I bought this because of the timer function, hubby can have his coffee at 5 when he is going to work and i have mine at 6.
if you are buying this machine the only cons I could find are:
The maximum amount of water you can put into this machine says 10 cups BUT that is not for a standard 250ml uk mug size. We fill the water up onto this setting and get about 5 mugs of coffee out of it which is OK for our household in the morning on our way off to work and of course you don’t have to have that much coffee of you dont want to.
I am happy to have the paper filters (Non bleached of course! ) as we don’t have a garden compost so its really easy to discard in our council recycling bin too. but some prefer re usablenplastic filters (not me I find them a real pain!
and just to be really really picky…. the bit that you pour the water into is slim, it is curved to fit the machine. Its really easy, i don’t find it a problem but others may do.
A MASSIVE bonus of course is the pot, not just because of keeping the coffee hot, IT REALLY DOES and for over 2 hours! but its NOT GLASS! yey!
On my days off work I take the pot full of coffee into the garden and drink it at my leisure. BLISS!
I’m converted, i will never buy a coffee machine with a glass coffee pot ever again!
Great Machine
The main feature of this Machine Is the thermos jug which is very well made and heavy duty, you need to take it off of the machine straight away after running the coffee through to shut the valve on top, I have found that the Coffee remained piping hot for well over two hours so would presume it will remain drinkable for a lot longer, as for the brew if you put it on intense you don’t need an awful lot of coffee to make a nice balanced coffee a couple of heaped table spoons does the job, the Coffee I buy from Lost Sheep is a Single Origin craft roasted coffee so using as little as possible per brew is always good, the coffee has had very good reviews from everyone who has tried i
Great filter coffee make
I’ve only had this a few weeks so this is my initial review so far.
This machine requires filters, I’ve always used paper filters in other machines even if they had a gause mesh filter as it’s easier to bin the spent ground coffee so this was a non issue for me, You can always purchase a re-usable filter should you wish.
Looks wise it looks great with contrasting dark plastic and brushed metal. The water level can be read from either side of the machine as well although it’s not the clearest I’ve seen.
The coffee pot is a delight, it is a double wall item with a lid that has a stopper that you need to open via a simple rocker to pour the coffee but stays closed when not in use to reduce the heat escaping from the coffee. The double wall vacuum design keeps the coffee acceptably warm for over 2 hours without the need for an electricity powered hot plate (should cost less to run than my old coffee maker) . The drip sop also allows you to pour a mug of coffee while it’s still brewing for a short time. I tend to leave it until the full brew is done though.
Coffee. I tend to make a jug full so I cannot comment (yet) on smaller volumes but set on the high intensity setting it tastes great. I’ve not tried it on different intensity settings yet so cannot yet comment on the effectiveness of different settings yet. One more thing to test when I have the time,
The timer works well once set but could be a tad easier to set, certainly when compared to my ageing Morphy Richards machine I now use at work. It works though. Ideal for a fresh pot of coffee just brewed for when I rise from my nights sleep.
If there is a downside it would be that there is no indication of the amount of coffee left in the pot but by lifting it you get a pretty good idea if there is enough coffee inside for a mug full.
In summary.
– It makes great filter coffee for my tastes although I’ve yet to try the different intensity stetting.
– Its quite quick to brew a full pot < 10 minutes - It should be cheap to run, it powers off after making the brew with no power needed for a hot plate, the jug does a great job at keeping the coffee warm for a couple of hours and it still tastes good. - The jug has a small filler so cleaning tools are needed for a thorough clean, I just rinse mine out with a small amount of dish washing up liquid to do the job. I will update this review if needed but so far I'm very pleased with this machine.

Hot for 2 hours is innacurate.
I used to have a coffee maker a few years back with a hotplate and had hot coffee all day long, after it broke I used a caffetierre for the last couple of years, finally decided to get a new machine and found out hotplates are no longer a thing, after looking at a few I plumped for this one because reviewers said it kept coffee warm for at least the 2 hours it said it did. This is wrong, I make a pot at 9am on a timer, finish the same pot at 4pm in the afternoon with the last hot cup, I was happily amazed it stayed hot this long.
Hot, all day long, flavourful, and variable strength, coffee, exactly what I wanted.

The best filter coffee machine I've had!
It makes great coffee, but the thermal jug is the best feature. The coffee stays hot (and I mean HOT) for at least an hour. I’ve never tested it beyond that time frame, but I suspect it would stay hot for a lot longer. The only minor drawback is that the filter is designed for paper filters and won’t fit a standard basket filter (the company that makes this machine are famous for selling the filter papers – basket filters are their sworn enemy, evidently). However, if you’re not a paper filter fan, all is not lost. For under 10 you can grab a stainless steel mesh coffee filter (size 4). I got the AIEVE one and it fits perfectly. Happy slurping!
Makes good coffee AND keeps it hot!!
This Melitta filter coffee machine is really good. I had reservations about the thermal jug and the fact there is no hot plate. Having used the machine everyday for just over a week, I can say that the thermal jug keeps the coffee hot for not just two hours as stated, but at least four hours. The fact there is no hot plate is irrelevant, in fact it is a benefit. After four hours the coffee was NOT stewed as it would have been with a hot plate, in fact the coffee tasted really good.
Cleaning the machine is simple as is setting the machin up out of the box. There are two tips I will offer (1) purchase a measuring spoon, then you will have the same strength coffe every time. (2) pour hot water into jug to warm it up and then empty the jug before use.
All in I am very pleased with my purchase and have no hesitation in recommending it.
We are very satisfied with this coffee machine
We’ve had our Melitta Coffee Machine in a cupboard in our bedroom for a few years now. It has been reilable and works every morning so that we wake up to a nice hot cup of coffee. We have found that the thermos jug keeps the coffeee hot enough to drink for several hours, it is very easy to clean and I find the descaling system easy to do as the machine tells you when to do it which is important in our hard water area. Its a fairly simple process ( read the instruction first though – I learnt this through experience) I think the reviewer who had problems with the strength of the coffee may have been using the wrong grind for the machine, our coffee is usually pretty good, we use a good Italian brand ground for filter machines. I would reccomend it as good value for money.
Fantastic buy
What with us all at home all the time, we took the plunge and bought a coffee maker. Having shopped around I knew I wanted one with a thermal jug as EU regulations for electricity saving mean hot plates have to turn off automatically after 40 mins, and that means the coffee would go cold fairly quickly. But that meant the options were limited, and more expensive than those with glass jugs. We also wanted a timer, although we haven’t used this function yet.
There were two machines that met our criteria that were cheaper and initially we tried one that was 10 cheaper. The coffee was fine but the jug leaked everywhere due to bad design and the steam went into the digital display. Returned it and went for this one.
It is really very, very good. If you live in a hard water area you’ll like the anti scale features. If you like to adjust the strength of your coffee you’ll like the strength feature (and you can buy different kinds of melitta filters that will also adjust the strength of your brew). It was sometimes almost too strong (and I like strong coffee!) so I was able to use a little less coffee – kerching! Ha ha.
It is very easy to fill, easy to remove the used filter and having made the coffee at 10am I just had a perfectly warm cup at 5pm, so rest assured the thermal jug works very well.
Since I like a bargain, I have been trying various coffees: Lidl are much better than Aldi for pre-ground coffees. The Lidl Large pack of Columbia’s is very nice for everyday, and the Guatemalan special one is absolutely lovely.
We got this model to replace a coffee machine when the carafe on the previous one broke and it would take 2-3 weeks to get a proper replacement.
Positives – the coffee flavour is the same as our previous model and we’re happy with that. We haven’t really noticed a difference using the different strength dial, but then we’re not coffee experts, so it might just be us. The timer function on this machine is actually easier to use – it’s clearer when the timer is set as the timer button lights up. The carafe on this model is insulated like a thermos – so we set the machine to come on at 6:15, It’ll be ‘as brewed’ when we get to it between 6:45 and 7:15, and the coffee is still hot at 10am when I’m going for the final top up.
The major bonus is power consumption – It does this using very little power in comparison to the old model which had a keep warm function. In order to keep the other pot warm – the old machine had to consume 1500w for the entire time to run a warm plate underneath. So if you wanted an hour of hot coffee – it took 1.5kwh to make it do that. And for us – given we drink our coffee spread over the morning – that’s a lot of power used. This machine will run at around the same usage – but only for the time it takes to make the coffee (so 10-15 minutes at most) – then it can switch off.
The one negative is that the ‘drip stop’ function doesn’t seem to work as well. The one time I’ve removed the pot while brewing – I had to clean up a mess. So I’ve resolved not to do that again. AND while the old machine might have dripped too – the keep warm plate underneath would have evaporated the drips quickly, which this machine won’t do due to using the thermos style jug.
Given that is the only negative so far – I’d happily re-purchase this again as and when this gives up the ghost.
A fantastic addition to our kitche
We have used various coffee machines before. A very expensive, big and noisy one, which now lives in a cupboard because hubby didn’t use many of the features and it was a nightmare to clean. Then we had a small capsule one. Did the job, but capsules were expensive and we couldn’t recycle them. I searched around for an alternative that would be easy to clean and not too expensive. This one was perfect. Had it for over a year now and used daily. Very easy to maintain, paper filters and grounds go in the composting bin, lots of choice of coffee on Amazon or in the supermarket. Definitely recommend this one.
Disappointed at lack of coffee smell
A rare review from me, but you need to know that if you want your place to smell of brewing coffee, this is not the machine for you.
The vacuum flask keeps the coffee hot for hours without a hot plate, making it ecofriendly. But the flask is sealed, with a valve allowing coffee to drip through. This means hardly any coffee aroma comes from the machine.
That said, the coffee it makes is great. I found Lavazza 5 is the best. Coarser ground coffees did not work well.
I do love it. But I wanted my place to fill with the smell of brewing coffee.
Well priced, consistent and makes great coffee
I had the previous version of this with the glass jug and hotplate. It lasted over 4 years before one of the kids dropped and smashed the glass jug so this is its replacement. This is easy to use, easy to clean, makes good coffee with a choice of strength/intensity.
I like the fact that the hotplate is gone, it worked well, but used electricity. The replacement insulated coffee jug keeps the coffee nice and hot without stewing it (although it doesn’t last long enough to get cold in our house).
If there’s one thing I miss about the glass jug it is being able to see how much coffee is left. Here you pour and hope for the best. Sometimes I make coffee, go away to do something, come back to pour a cup but can’t see that my family have actually drunk the pot. But that’s the payoff I guess for losing the hotplate.
Nice machine with one annoying fault...
Works a treat and produces nice coffee.
Insulated jug keeps coffee warm for ages and the bottom of the jug stays cool so you can put straight onto the table.
Fast brew time – which is nice.
The one problem? — the Clock / Timer has not got a battery backup. That means that every time you unplug the machine the clock / timer is reset to 00.00 which makes it useless as you have to reset it every time you use the machine.
This doesn’t happen if you keep the machine plugged in but, never the less, it is, in my opinion, an avoidable fault in the design.
I’ve just purchased this from reading the reviews carefully as my previous Accent Morphy Richards coffee maker basically kept turning itself off (only purchased around 18 months ago but didn’t guarantee it).
There are basic instructions which I didn’t find that clear re setting the clock rather than the timer. I did manage it but not sure about setting the timer but I’m sure I’ll figure it out.
It didn’t say to run water through before the first use but I did that anyway and I’ve just made my first coffee. I used ‘mild’ as it is half three in the afternoon and didn’t want to be up all night not knowing it’s strength.
The instructions making the coffee itself are clear and a little strange after my Morphy coffee maker but first impressions seem good. A little niggle is the scraping sound it makes when pulling and pushing the coffee pot in and out that’s all.
It seems to be doing the job and ultimately the coffee tastes nice (after struggling for the last week manually turning the coffee on repeatedly to get a pot of coffee that didn’t give justice to the coffee I’d bought).
Time will tell but it seems worth the cost but I’ll review again later.
Update review
I’m more impressed by the coffee machine. I set the timer once i.e. 7am and then it’s set without without to reset everyday unless my Morphy Richards machine that I’ve replaced. Definitely keeps the coffee hot for a few hours. Wish I’d purchased this product in the first place!
