After unpacking and trying it out I found one of the leg release buttons was stuck inside the leg – feels like the spring has fallen out from behind it. Requested a return and replacement, Ill update the review when I receive a working one!
Edit: Returned and got a replacement. Its a good sturdy bench, easy to fold up and hide away. Updated to 5 stars.
While heavier, it provides a larger work surface than the B&D, which can be useful. It is also easier to store as, when folded, it’s flat both sides. The clamp plugs store neatly in the frame.
It doesn’t feel quite as sturdy as my original Workmate, but then, what is?
Black and Decker has had its day. The Bosch portable workbench is easy to put up and down, robust and like all good well designed tool, a pleasure to work with!
This bench has a reasonable surface working area, the Bamboo work surface seems excellent, easy to setup, up in seconds.
Comes with chocks holds for supporting pieces. Compacts down really well, takes up space about a metre long and 20cm wide.
I wanted a light weight folding but sturdy bench but which one is best for me. I viewed the B&D Workmates and other brands too, poor or indifferent reviews and on occasion too expensive. Bosch version seemed to tick all the boxes and I purchased a Bosch drill in 1999 and it still works fine. The Bosch bench Is a decent weight but not too heavy, easy to open and fold, no assembly required. I am impressed by the quality the bench which should serve me well.
Better than its competitors good working height sturdy with a good range of adjustments. Couple of issues I found the red plugs extremely hard to get in and out a wrench and a hammer is required but when in there is no give. There is no fitted levelling foot and if you store it in a damp shed or garage for the winter protect it mine suffered from bad mould on the bamboo jaws. I would recommend it.

The jaws of the vice do not meet completely flush so that does not fill you with confidence . The footprint of the table is the same size as the top ,so the workbench will never be as stable as a Black and Decer Workmate (the B and D has the legs spayed out so the table will not rock) . The Bosch is more convenient to transport and open than others I have used , the work top is larger than most and should work better . I would have more confidence in the vice if it had steel lead screws rather than the soft ones that are fitted , time will tell if they are up to the task ( I notice that Bosch sell replacements on their web site so perhaps that is a warning of what is to come) .
All in all it is much better than the cheaper work benches on the market but it will never replace the old workmate , but if you do not need that degree of strength it will do most jobs well enough . It will not last 50 years ,but then again neither will I .
I bought this for my husband for his birthday, he was over the moon. He does a lot of diy and loves this workbench. It’s very quick to assemble, very useful large worktop area unlike previous ones he owned, it’s bulky when assembled but folds neatly and tidy away.
I bought this workbench to replace a Black and Decker workmate which had served me well. The Bosch is just a bit better in every department: easier to fold, more stable, larger work surface and it just feels better made.
My only problem with this is the weight, but I accept that it is necessary to achieve the stability and sturdiness. A good buy and mush better than any similar workbench I have had in the pas

Previously used a B&D workmate that was also practical though heavier. Really appreciate the design and ease of assembly. Stable platform & plenty of scope to take substantial weight.
Wanted to buy a present that would be used not left on one side. This fitted the bill exactly and the recipent was delighted that he could fold it up.
The product works fine but, I was left little disappointed that one of the wooden (bamboo) three piece clamps is at such a different height.
It appears to be bowed as its reasonably level in the middle.

It’s about 20 years since I bought my B&D Workmate. It was getting a bit beat up so decided to get a replacement. After my usual research I chose the Bosch one. Gave it a once over and it looks well made and well designed. Hope this lasts as long..
Bosch lives up to their fame in terms of quality with this amazing bench, imo. It comes already assembled I just had to take it out from the box and open it. It’s huge, firm, a little tricky to fold back but that is because I’m new to this product, I believe. Very impressed overall and it is beautiful as well, I read some nonsense negative reviews about the table not aligned and or the feet not standing balanced…Well that is not the case with the bench i got, maybe they got one faulty. I was google eyeing this bench for long time, it’s quite expensive, and i was able to buy with Amazon repayments, worth every penny. I ‘m very happy. Thanks Amazon and Bosch. I highly recommended, it’s a good investment.
Excellent build quality, just as you would expect from Bosch.!! It is very functional in what it is designed to do. Not in the least bit “flimsy”.
The Bosch is easy to put up in comparison to the B&D Workmate and the quality and sturdiness is excellent – I think better than even the early model Workmates. For me the height is also ideal. I noticed after the fact that I could have bought it cheaper at Robert Dyas, but delivery was free and ahead of schedule – so all in all pleased.
Found it quite useful when i was doing my kitchen as a work bench holds quite a bit of weight and stable for DIY
Folded out straight from the box unlike others-good quality surface- not quite as heavy/robust as my original workmate but looks smart and best of the bunch

Side to side movement is not advised and you’ll end weakening the leg joints I reckon… But that’s from experience with other products… Not this one!

This product is very good has a very large top very useful
And whilst it is ideal for securing pieces of work for cutting and filing, if you are chiselling or hammering, it isn’t really sturdy enough. Perhaps that is asking too much for a portable work bench, but I think I would like to see it a bit sturdier. It more than redeems itself for how quickly it can be erected and folded down. The solid wood deck is a nice feature too.

Extremely easy to use, ideal for smaller glue applications, lightweight, trigger not stiff to use like other mains powered types, no noticeable smell. Will have to see how long battery lasts, but only diy and electronic applications.
Purchased this to avoid using the breakfast table or a railing in the flat to brace or hold things. Works very well. Supports a reasonable amount of weight, and folds up easily and doesn’t take up much space – slides into the back of a closet or behind a door.
Near perfect workbench. So much better in every respect than the Workmate. Two things I would love, adjustable height and slightly wider jaws. Apart from that it’s superb.
Very solid and sturdy, much better than any other portable benches I’ve had over the years. Not the lightest, but the folding mechanism works very well and the whole thing feels well made.
I ordered a cheap B&D first and that was really awful so I sent it back and got this. Much better. Fit for purpose, where as the B&D was not.
A significant drawback though is that the red pegs / “blade clamps” can get stuck. The peg holes aren’t all the same size: some are loose, others are too tight. Yesterday I had to remove a stuck peg with a crowbar and it’s looking much worse for ware. I don’t know if they do spare parts but doubt they will last long if I have to keep doing that, and the bench will be of limited use once they break, because the normal opening with the pegs isn’t very wide.
I don’t know if they were drilled differently or mine has warped, but it’s an issue either way. I’ve had it about a month.
It’s also a bit expensive, but the finish quality (especially the wood) is better than on cheap items.
Hesitated buying this as I’ve always used Black and Decker workmates previously and they were substantially cheaper than this one. Having read a number of reviews saying that the quality of workmates had gone downhill and positive reviews of this one, I bought this and am very pleased that I did. Very sturdy, arrived fully assembled and is very easy to fold up/down. I can see where the extra money went and would recommend buying.
Bought this for my husband for Christmas as he wanted a more lightweight replacement for his old one. He is very pleased with it. His only point was that although it is easy to fold, he often worries that he’s going to trap his fingers in it.
Amazing use it all the time …… the sticks that come with it are weird and over sticky they never really set but once I was using other sticks out in the wild it was fine
Well constructed, strong and stable. Bought this for my son and contemplated replacing my original B & D Workmate. However as the height cannot be adjusted I would struggle with it.
Compared to s similar priced B&D this is far better, sturdy & well made
This is the first workmate I have bought so I cannot compare to others. Up until now I have been using hi-tec dustbins and pasting tables as a work-surface. My experience of this product is that it is solidly made. Arrives in one piece. Easy to carry. A breeze to set up and use. Holds wood firmly. If the council decides to upgrade their bins to go into competition with the Bosch workmate – I am.kerping the Bosch.

He was delighted – had one previously but has seen its sell by date – so this was just what he wanted!
Setting up is easy, unlocking the nearside legs have to be done under no-load conditions or it falls over. When sawing, the bench is a little wobbly, even on flat ground.
Solid and very practical bench. Folds easily and is very stable. Worth the difference from cheaper benches because this is good to use.

After buying a cheap work bench and having to assemble it only to find it was faulty and had to return it decided to splash out and buy the Bosch and what a difference ready to use out of the box a sturdy piece of equipment well worth the extra money don’t be put off by the negative reviews
The workbench is sturdy and easy to use with a strong vice. It is a good height and comfortable in use. Folding the bench is not difficult once used to it and the design does ensure that it is solid in use.
I gave this four stars at first but it does everything it was advertised as and everything I have asked of it so had to change to five stars
I needed a new workbench for routine domestic maintenance and projects. I do not have space for a permanent workshop and needed something that could fold flat and be stored out of the way, which the Bosch does admirably.
I have found it stable enough for my needs. It provides a good, large work space and the clamps work well. It is generally robust, but there are a couple of plastic parts that may be susceptible to damage. I have not had it long enough to comment on durability. So far it meets and exceeds my DiY needs.

This workbench is very easy to put up, only takes seconds,, locks firmly into place. It has a great working height, unlike my old workbench.
Great quality and much better than my old Black & Decker Workmate. Folds flat for storage and opens up ready for use within 15 seconds. Just brilliant.
I bought this for my partner and it is brilliant. No fiddling when it arrives, just open the box and start working. It is well made and sturdy and had no problems with using it with various woods and saws, drills etc.
Much better than all the other work benches we I have had, they only last a short time they were not very strong like the Bosch work mate luv i

This is well made and of good design. It heats up quickly and works well. Glue and tip do become very hot, can’t complain though as that is what it should do. I don’t recommend children using it unsupervised. Battery charge lasts well. I put it away charged and I can usually do everything I want the next I take it out. You cannot use it while charging.

Excellent product and really pleased I spent a bit extra on it. After struggling with the cheap B&Q table I bought its a pleasure to use. No assembly required, ready to use and sturdy construction.

So far I’m pleased, a good sturdy work bench. A little bit higher than the Black and Decker which pleases my back, and it fits in my work shop a treat.
Worth the extra, many competitors have mdf tops.
My old workmate will still be used for mounting power tools, but this is a great addition to my workshop

I have been using this for a few months now and I am really impressed with it. I was going to buy another B&D Workmate to replace my trusty old one but discovered that they have value-engineered all the quality out of it so I thought I would try this. It is a really clever design and as you use it you realise that the designers absolutely understand how it will be used and they have thought of everything – it is just so convenient and quick to erect and light to carry about, yet strong enough to do the job. Yes it’s a bit expensive but it’s worth every penny.
Great piece of kit to have available. Sadly I purchased the cheaper options before, only for them to break and let me down. Don’t try save a buck and then have to put up with trash.
1st one I bought after it was recommended to me didn’t work and It was 3 mths before I could have a replacement.
I sent an email to Amazon and once I returned the inferior one I was sent a new one which is really good.
Id recommend this glue gun to anyone, its very good.
