My very old Smiths timer was a 5 hour clock before the plastic completely disintegrated but it seems no one makes them any more. This one hour timer does the job and times well. Just have to remember how many one hour times I have done if it is a longer time I need!

Very nice timer … it has a good long ring, not frighteningly loud so it doesn’t make you jump … it’s good to have a mechanical timer, as they all seem to be digital now. Very accurate and nice looking brushed stainless steel, happy to leave it out on the worktop.

Repeat purchase. Just very easy to use and nice to have something chunky rather than electronic. This is a replacement product for an identical model that lasted over 5 years with a lot of use.

This is an easy to use timer. Just remember to fully wind the timer all the way round and wind back to the time you want to set it to. The bell rings for a long time and is quite loud. I give it 10/10.

Works very well. Make sure you follow the instructions and the label on the back – wind the pinger round to 60 minutes and then back to the time you want, otherwise you won’t get a full ring when the time’s up.
It could do with better non-slip feet though as it doesn’t stay put.
People whinging in their reviews that you can’t hear the ring should try reading the instructions!

Solid construction with attractive, no frills, design suitable for contemporary or period-style kitchen. Ringtone not quite as positive (loud) as I’ve been used to. Would thoroughly recommend.

Due to being pre-packed in a difficult to open hard plastic casing which needed to be tackled with VERY STRONG kitchen scissors to extract the timer, is the reason I have given this 4 stars. Such wrapping is completely un-neccesary.

The great thing about this is that – unlike other timers – you can leave it in the kitchen and still hear it from the rest of the house, so you don’t have to take it along with you. Such an improvement on what I had before!

Spot on, nice sturdy item, attractive design with good sized knob that can be grasped with wet hands.
Loud bell, but do remember to turn the timer knob all the way and then back to the time required in order to wind the ringer.
From other reviews it seems some aren’t aware of this. Not exactly difficult to do.

Does the job
Does the job and the alarm is quite loud. Bonus no batteries required.
Great Product...
And works like a charm. Quicker to use than faffing about with the timer on the oven. However I see the price has gone up a couple of pounds since I bought (around 9 pounds) it and I thought THAT was really too expensive. I’m pretty sure the markup is only because it has the Salter reputation behind it.

I bought it for my husband who has a tendency to put a saucepan of food on the hob then walk away and forget it! I did have to remind him to set the timer though.

Only fault is that the bell is not very loud, need to have the timer in the same room as yourself

The only criticism is that the centre of the dial which has to be turned to operate the clockwork mechanism, is completely black and cannot be read from any distance away. I solved this by attaching white sticky paper to the pointer on the dial so that it could be seen when I am standing on the other side of my kitchen. Otherwise I can recommend.

Item was received at the Post Office before time and I collected it a day early just in time for a dinner party so I could spend time with my guests out of the kitchen with my timer by my side. My cooker timer is too quiet to hear from my lounge. Well done.

The second delivered is working satisfactorily but does not seem the same quality of the previous one I had had for years but perhaps that is just ‘ageism’ on my part.

An excellent timer . Read the instructions properly and it works every time perfectly . As it says , for example . If you want it to time say 10 minutes , wind the dial all the way around to nearly the 60min point CAREFULLY not like a bull at a gate and the return the dial to the 10 minute mark and it will ring very loudly and for a long period . As I said READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. Any mechanical timer if you are just setting say 3 or 4 minutes will not be exactly correct because you are just guessing where the 3 or 4 minute point . Its not rocket science . If you need exactly to the second you can only use a digital timer .

My husband needed this for work purposes
This is the second one I’ve bought – the first was probably a few years back from the high street so I was surprised to find it on Amazon. My husband likes it as it’s so easy to use by just turning the dial and with the type of work he does (timing how long a task takes) it gets constant use all day and has proved to stand up to that sort of use. There are other types of timers on the market but he insisted I got another Salter. So thanks Salter don’t change from this very simple but long lasting design.

I bought one for my sister who was forever burning saucepans and she was dlighted with it. My old one died a death, so I bought myself one also. Very good product.

Can ask for more but don’t want any more!

THis product does what it says it will do. I read the critical reviews saying the numbers rub off..but I think this only happens if you have cooking oils and fats on your hands as you turn the dial. Simple,unbreakable,no batteries,no-nonsense.All you need for simple timing jobs
