Highly directional on-camera shotgun microphone
The MKE 400 combines portability and performance and sheds a whole new light on the way to capture audio for video. Features that were traditionally accessories – like a windscreen and shock-mount – are now fully integrated. A low-cut filter and 3-step gain sensitivity switch help to fine-tune your sound while shooting, and a headphone monitoring output with volume control helps to dial in that sound.

Me ha gustado su tamao y calidad, es adecuado para la Gopro
Ordentliches Microphon für den Einstieg
Gelegentlich filme und schneide ich (Urlaub, Familienfeste). Habe bisher eine Mini-DV Kamera benutzt (die sehr lange gehalten hat). Nachdem das Filmen mit der Spiegelreflex (Canon EOS 80D) mir ausreicht, wollte ich fr bessere Tonaufnahmen ein preiswertes Einstiegs-Micro haben. Zur Wahl stand Zubehr von Canon und eben das Sennheiser, das man mit Smartphones auch verwenden kann – was der Grund fr die Kaufentscheidung gegen das Canon-Micro war.
Ich mache Filmaufnahmen als Hobby und habe keine besonderen Kenntnisse in Akustik oder Tontechnik:
Probeaufnahmen im Freien und in Innenrumen waren fr mich ok. Habe erst ein paar Testaufnahmen gemacht. Auf den Eindrcken basiert mein Feedback.
– Nebengerusche werden gedmpft (z. B. Dunstabzug im Nebenraum = Kche als Test angemacht)
– Der Windschutz bringt sehr viel
– Der Richtcharakteristik ist ebenfalls gut wahrnehmbar, Ton aus ca 5 – 8 m ist deutlich lauter/klarer
– mein Eindruck als Laie ist, dass in kleinen Rumen das Micro weniger bringt, ich vermute, dass dann der Raum eh gleichmig beschall ist, aber auch hier sind nahe Gerusche nicht so dominant (wenn jemand nahe der Kamera redet), was ich gut finde
Die Dmpfung der Nebengerusche ist hrbar, aber es sind keine Wunder zu erwarten. Ist aber so, dass es bei Aufnahmen die Nebengerusche von “strt” auf “man nimmt es war” reduziert.
Zwei Punkte sind mir aufgefallen:
– Bei der Kontrolle mit angeschlossenen Kopfhrern fallen dennoch viele Gerusche auf, z. B. wenn man am Objektiv etwas einstellt oder das (blaue!) Kabel am Kamera-Gehuse anstt. Man sollte vorher ausprobieren, welche Betriebsgerusche weiterhin in die Aufnahme gelangen.
– Anfangs bin ich bs reingefallen, weil ich mich nicht getraut hatte, das Kabel tief genug in die Kamera einzustpseln. Habe daher das kleine Filmchen angehngt, weil ich aus der einen oder anderen Kritik den Eindruck gewonnen hatte, dass das nicht nur mir passiert ist.

Starting this out with the only thing I dislike. The mount is hard to get tight because it’s plastic. If part was metal or even a metal washer on the top part it would be more set.
For run and gun stuff this mix can slide off the hot shoe if you use a little extra force.
The sound quality is absolutely amazing. The cage it’s in does a great job of blocking a lot of windy situations and then the dead cat goes on when you need extra protection.
The buttons are very light to press so sometimes in my backpack they get switched around so be careful when using. I’ve been on the same battery for months and have used this a couple times a week.
Really really like the sound quality on this coming from rode micro.

Great Mic. Good value for money. The package comes with everything you need including TRS / TRS and TRS / TRRS 3.5mm cables (for smart phone connection).
The sound quality is very good with a good range. The weight is good as well, it is quite light. The shock absorbers for the mic are contained within the outer barrel of the mic. They buffer the mic well so unwanted noise is kept to a minimum
Comes with a good wind muffler. Make sure you connect the audio cable before putting the muffler on.
It compliments my Canon 90D very well as you can see.
Not compatible with my Gopro 8 unless you buy a 3rd party adaptor or use the Gopro media mod. I noted that if you sit this on the Gopro there is a noticeable over hang at the top of the lens, more so if the muffler is fitted.
Comes with a good quality bag for mic and all the bits.
A good purchase, very happy.
Form factor imbattibile
Ho scelto questo microfono per via della sua compattezza. Non sono un esperto del suono ma mi ci trovo bene. sempre comodo avere un microfono di backup che non va a batterie o anche per iniziare, per poi passare al 400. Il prezzo forse un po’ altino.

Perfekter Begleite
Fr meine DJI Osmo Action habe ich ein Mikrofon gesucht, das mit Dead Cat (Fellberzug) weder ins Bild ragt, noch sich von der Aufhngung gegen Erschtterungen ablsen kann, noch eine leicht zerbrechliche Plastikaufhngung extern berhaupt bentigt. Ich bin mit diesem Mikrofon deshalb sehr zufrieden: Die Bauweise lsst einen unkomplizierten Transport und ein schnelles An- und Abstecken zu. Der Ton ist ausgezeichnet, leicht mittenbetont, aber gut ausgewogen, deutlich besser als bei entsprechenden YouTube Videos zu hren. Ton kann bei Bedarf unkompliziert angepasst werden, alles da. Windschutz hilft wie erhofft. Preis/Leistung absolut angemessen. Nicht zu gerichtete Aufnahme, Umgebungsgerusche noch da, fr alle Aufnahmen, die nicht flsternd neben der Autobahn entstehen, finde ich das Verhltnis Umgebungston/Frontton perfekt.

Been using the microphone for a few months and have had mostly great experiences with it. When the camera is steady and pointed at the subject it picks up very clear audio in the direction it is facing.
Only once have I gotten unwanted audio on the Low Pass Filter being “active.” Upon filming a video where I am recording footage up on a mountain top with little to no one around was I able to pick clips of a “song” with no lyrics in with the audio. The clips were recorded on the side of a mountain about 6,000 feet in elevation. My only guess was that another hiker was nearby but not within sight with headphones in at a loud volume that it was able to pick it up.
Not honestly a big deal but I was a little disappointed that it captured audio where I couldn’t see where it could possibly come from. Other then that it picks up jitters when moving the camera around and the cord moving around on top of the camera body.
I know it sounds like I’m nit-picking. It’s a wonderful microphone with some of the best clarity I’ve heard from a shotgun microphone in quite some time. Could be user error on my part but I was hoping for this particular microphone not to pick up every little noise it came across.

I Love it! The sound quality is so much better than the internal mics on my RX100. It is so handy too as it turns on when I turn on the camera and off again when I turn it off.

For the money, this mic is a brilliant bit of kit. My preference is taking wildlife videos with my DSLR, but the built in mic doesn’t give any protection regarding wind noise. Even a light breeze will be noticable. Recording with the Sennheiser Professional MKE 200 Directional On-Camera Microphone has ended all of that. It picks up the ambient noises ( bird song, animal sounds ) just right, to give proper atmosphere to my videos. Would throughly reccomend. The enclosed video was taken from over half a mile away, as you will hear, the sound quality is excellent. The mic was also wearing the furry wind hat.
