It should be a bit cheaper.
I just got it, and noticed that to actually hear the keys you need to press them hard and firm, otherwise it will be an empty note.

Will eventually update this as i use it.

I’m brand new to anything musical having recently retired and decided to go hard core in learning how to make music without instruments. This little keyboard is fantastic for my learning needs. I use it with ab iPad and GarageBand and I’m happy. The software available for us is nice too but beyond my knowledge at this point. I do know I hooked this to my iPad with a small cheap adapter and it works well. I used Bluetooth headphones so I don’t bother anyone with my lousy composing. It beats keyboarding on the screen. Even works with my iPhone and the same adapter. So very portable. It can be powered by your iPad or phone as well. Works well on my computer too but I prefer the portability of it. I think it’s a proven name that will last. So from my inexperienced position I’d still buy this again.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersWhat an amazing little MIDI powerhouse
I’m usually play gigs on 88 big synth with piano touch. I’m usually not doing lots of EDM music or DJ style music cretion.

I tried to do some music work on Logic with my 88 keyboard, but the keyboard was just too big and far away from the computer.

Enters the Akai 37. This little keyboard is awesome. i got used to the “not-to-small” keys very fast. And also the mod and pitch wheels are easy to use.

I mapped a few keys for my Moog model D VST and preso, I have a fullyg functioning mood D under my finger tips. since the original moog was 37 keys, this is literally a perfect hardware version now.

I love working with the akai mini plus sits right in front of me, the keyboard just behind it, and then my 32″ monitor letting me enjoy a great logic work station.

Great for beginners, intermediate and pro. the 37 keys let me play nice big chords and not be “skimpy” on my range of tones.

Transport Controls, An Octave, And Better Velocity Curve
If you own an MPK Mini Mk3, this is an upgrade. The out of the box key velocity curve is improved and doesn’t require a YouTube video hack to adjust. Otherwise, it is a similar keyboard action and will feel the same. What you get that is all new is transport controls, more room to play, a sequencer, and chord / scale modes.

The down side is, there likely will be buttons and knobs to map even when you select mappings for individual DAWs. What is the point of these modes if they aren’t better mapped to DAWs they are supposed to support. Tried them in the MPC Software (2.11.6) and Ableton Live 11 and you’ll still have to map things yourself. Some manufacturers know how to do this and some don’t. Akai just can’t pull off seamless DAW integration in their keyboards. You’ll have to do the work.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGreat product but be aware there is now an "MPK mini plus" available
First I want to give 5 star praise to this little controller. If you have tried to produce music using only a keyboard, this is definitely a step in the direction of pro level production hardware ~ Between this and my Korg, I am getting work done and I was 5 star satisfied for a whole week…
Why the sudden lack of satisfaction when the device itself is still doing everything it is supposed to? ~ Because on Oct 21st, AKAI released the “AKAI MPK mini plus” with THREE octaves of keys (two handed chords!), real pitch bend wheels (industry standard), midi connector/control w/ step sequencer and all still well under $200.
The price of the MPK mini has now been adjusted to where if you are on an absolute tight budget, it is still going to be hard to beat BUT compare this mini and AKAI’s newest model to make sure you are getting the best value for your needs.

    Complicatissima

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersAmazing mini keyboard
As soon as this was announced I knew I had to have it. I’ve been using AKAI’s MPK mini 25-key MIDI controller for about two years and have considered it the best option for the budget-oriented or desk space-challenged producer… until now.

The MPK mini plus, with its additional octave and (FINALLY) dedicated mod and pitch wheels, is absolutely the new gold standard for bedroom producers who don’t have a lot of money or space. Yes the keys are mini sized, but they don’t feel cheap–the springs give them a nice tactile tension and you get used to the small size quickly.

The whole product in fact feels surprisingly premium despite the plastic body; the CC wheels and two-axis joystick have a splendid resistance to them and when you engage them, you get a silky smooth response and a nice readout of the value on the little LCD display.

The one feature I haven’t messed too much with is the new built-in sequencer (and I imagine most bedroom producers have that functionality taken care of by their DAW like me), but I’m sure it’s fab if you take the time to learn it.

Time will tell if the mini plus holds up to rigorous daily use like its surprisingly rugged baby brother. If it ever breaks I’ll update this review… for now though, I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. This is a great value at MSRP.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMi primer controlador MIDI

I bought this AKAI Mini Keyboard for my son, who already is a musician of 6 years on the saxophone, but expressed interest in playing the piano/keyboard and trying to write music. He loves this and found it very easy to use! It’s lightweight and portable, so makes it easy to travel with, in its portable hard case. Very reasonably priced - this keyboard is more expensive at our local music stores, so I feel that I got a good value for this item. I would highly recommend this keyboard to beginners, intermediate players, and even advanced players, to have something to travel with and create tracks with.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersStiff keys, don't get all black!
It’s got very stiff keys, responsive, but stiff, difficult for someone that plays off muscle memory. DO NOT GET ALL BLACK, it’s EBONY and IVORY for a reason : I accidentally ordered the black one, not seeing the minor keys were black too! WHO DOES THAT!? : the included software is “meh” but it’s enough to get started with for sure! The drum pads are stiff like the keys, they need a bit extra punch, unless you hot the corners, that’s where I use them. Would not order again, but would gift to someone I don’t like much, as the perfect p[passive aggressive personal “lol”. Everything else on it works GREAT, knobs are perfection, size and weight, perfect….but that doesn’t help much when I hit the wrong keys constantly bc I can’t see what I’m doing in the dark…or light! ><

Overall great, but the pads require too much force for 80% velocity
Solid device, can’t complain. 10/10 would buy again, if only there was a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pads, which are MPC-style and as such are not as sensitive as some might expect.
There is a built-in keybed sensitivity edit though.

    Amazing value
This is everything you need to get started producing your own music. If you’re completely new to things it might require a few hours research prior – but I was surprised at how this is essentially plug and play once you have the midi instruments installed. There were really no technical headaches and I wasn’t expecting it to be so easy.

Very sturdy and we’ll made and the keys have a nice response to them and the pads are good for programming drum beats.

Feel like every household should own one. It’s good fun just playing around and being able to make any imaginable sound

Best value for money out there
Really easy to use, nice big pads for finger drumming, only thing is keyboard is too small really, but it isn’t a concert piano, lovely size to fit on my PC Desk drawer.
You won’t get better for the price

good for beginners and pros alike!
a simple midi that I like to use when on the go. the only problem is the versatility between different daws can be frustrating.

other then that a great product!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuperb keyboard and features that will get your creative juices flowing
As an ex-professional keyboard player, session musician and writer i would never ever have entertained buying something like this……but….it’s not about playing a keyboard as such, more about making music. So….for a few quid you get a velocity sensitive keyboard with pads, pitch bend, an arpeggiator and moreover…the software. MPC beats may have a bit of a learning curve but just watch the videos on the tube and you will be up and running in no time….I struggled for about 10 minutes, watched about 30 mins of videos on youtube and was up and running. the results were incredible for the cost and off I went.

Why did I buy this, well, arthritis is setting in and I need another way to scratch my itches….my only single gripe about this is that I loved the approach so much I ended up going out and spending 1000 on an MPC Live Mk2 which takes it to another level…the keyboard is now part of that rig whenever I need keys for rifs etc….Buy it, download the software, get used to it and give it the opportunity to show you how good it is.

As an alternative, if you don’t want keyboard, are on a budget and don’t mind hooking into a laptop, then go for the MPC Studio Mk2 which gives you the full MPC 2 software (Beats is a cut down, but powerful tool) for 200 quid with an interface that whilst not having a touch screen, is also not too difficult to master.

Lastly, honestly, the workflow is NOT that hard to learn…it’s just that people expect too much to quickly and too easily these days….those same people can often get bored quickly and will move onto their next hobby. Just my 0.02

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUn gran bel prodotto!
I pad molto sensibili e sopratutto molto dinamici. A mio parere superiore all Arturia minilab mkII, provare per credere. Super consiglio.

    I blame the buye
his is not a bad review it’s a good product made we’ll but do not bye this if you think it’s a product you can use as a stand alone item. You need a computwr and hours of spare time to understand the software program. Clearly if you are a stupid buyer, like me you buy this for you son nothing realising the steep learning curve require. Used for 5 hours never used since. U blame the buyer and that was me lol

Can be used with other programs like fl studio
I use with fl studio. So you don’t need to install the original program it can be set up with a range of programs. It’s good. no problems. for beginners that depends on your use with computers to get any sound you need to simply load a plugin and it’ll map accordingly if no plugin selected no sound.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersUn buon controller con qualche pecca...

    2. I pad

    Great value little keyboard
I bought this to use as part of a portable music production setup, to use with either an iPad Pro (2020 USB-C model) or a laptop.
The only ‘con’ is that this keyboard doesn’t provide an additional USB-C sable, which would eliminate the need for a USB-C hub for use with a recent iPad/Laptop. At this point, I think that this should be standard.
Thankfully, the iPad Pro can power the USB-C hub, and also power the keyboard without the need for external power, but a cable that ended in USB-C would be even more portable.
The build quality seems really good and I love the styling. The keys and drum pads feel good and are responsive. Assignable knobs for controlling synth parameters. It has been working perfectly with Steinberg Cubasis 3 on the iPad.
Great value for money, and very portable. Recommended to anyone that needs a small, high quality keyboard for portable use.

Better than most but not magical!
I have bought lots of pad/keyboard controllers and never really got what I wanted from any of them. This is probably the closest though. I have a full weighted 88 key MODX synth and use that for serious playing but I like have something on the desk for when I am using software synths. I use logic X and own some great synth plugins already so I wasn’t expecting much from the bundled plugins – they are ok and would definitely get you started. I wouldn’t bother with them if you already have nice synth sounds but they are a good start for a beginner.

The next thing – don’t think you will be a YouTube sensation in 10 minutes! This controller is very flexible but it takes a bit of work to get it set up and the included sounds that don’t really cut it (in my opinion). They do provide you with a neat looking DAW to get you started though – I’m not keen on the workflow so haven’t used it stand alone. The DAW also runs as a plugin which is interesting as it could really help if your existing DAW doesn’t have a loop launcher. I have set it up with Logic Pro and in the main it works. You have to remember to listen to the midi on channel 10 for the pads and channel 1 for the keys to make sure you can control 2 separate instruments if working that way. Alternatively you can assign the pads to trigger loops in logic – this works really well. I am struggling with assigning the rotary knobs to the Atruria Collection plugins – they seem to only register as on or off which makes them unusuable. I’m sure this is user error on my part but if I can’t resolve this in the next 24 hours I will have to return it as I mostly use these synths. Build quality is nice – it looks good and the knobs etc feel solid. The keybed is ok for the price and the pad velocity sensors seem good (although sometimes I think one of the pads gets slightly triggered by an adjacent pad). The joystick was a bad idea – in theory its good but in practice having bend and modulation on the opposing axis is just not workable as you end up unintentionally using both at the same time. I think you can reconfigure this in the editor. You have to download this from the advanced options in the installer. I think the editor is likely to resolve my issue but need some time to work through it. It certainly gives the impression that this controller will do whatever you want it to if you are willing to spend the time with it. (No idea why this is considered to be an advanced feature!)

It’s a tough call between this and artruia products – if I can sort the issue with mapping the knobs it will stay on my desk! Otherwise it will have to go back and I may get an Arturia keystep The manual is awful and the best info out there is offered by YouTubers.
