The return of Hoenn is stunning!
I was holding off on buying this game since its release, because I was waiting to buy a discounted 3DS and my first 3DS game was Pokemon X/Y. However, I took the plunge and bought this game (at an excellent price, may I add!) and I am IN LOVE. Pokemon Sapphire and Emerald were always my favourite Pokemon games: I fell in love with the region, the Pokemon, the adventure, and I am elated that they brought Hoenn back into 3D. The DexNav is the best feature of this game, in my opinion: you get to search for specific species in the grass, and the utter surprise of finding a Pokemon with a hidden ability or egg moves is wonderfully captivating. I think this game is most suitable for those of us who adored the Hoenn region; otherwise, you may find yourself comparing it to the incomparable Pokemon X/Y.
I haven’t played a Pokemon game since the original trilogy, where my own copy was Blue on the Gameboy Colour, but I also played my fair share of Yellow on a friend’s Gameboy.
Wow. The world is pretty crazy and having so much additional power of the 3DS really brings the world to life. Pokemon battles haven’t changed too much from what I remember, but they certainly look better. The item system where you can give pokemon items to hold that they can automatically use in certain situations, or provide buffs in others, is a nice system that can sometimes save a pokemon from near-instant feinting due to a surprisingly effective attack. I admit I have not kept up with the universe to the additional pokemon types can get a little confusing at first, but for a new player the game is welcoming and steadily introduces you to more pokemon of more types and introduces you to additional features of the game that just add to the world they’re trying to build, such as the broadcasting of news and interviews people conduct with you and friends.
The game looks stunning, obviously. 3D is present in parts but as it’s a remake the majority of the game is 2D only, which is fine. The difficulty seems quite a bit easier than I remember the originals being, as I’ve currently beaten 4 gym leaders and have yet to lose once to them, but given I was about 9 at the time of Pokemon Blue, I’m not particularly surprised, though I do hear that the game is still of a lower difficulty than the older generation of games.
Not much more to say really; this was my reintroduction back into the world of pokemon after a good 15 year break and I have to say, I’m glad I read up on some other comments and reviews when choosing between ORAS or X and Y, because OR has been a blast so far and I’ve yet to find the game unrewarding or frustrating.
Great update to a pokemon classic game. The re-done visuals and styling to that of pokemon x and y with the addition of mega evolution and the twist to the cover pokemon with primal reversion is perfectly done, and makes this game worth playing all over again. The bonus story after you complete the game was amazing and I’ve spent many an hour playing this even after the game’s story finished. Plenty to do with wondertrading (and getting lucky with an awesome shiny pokemon etc) battling other players and strengthening your team. Well done Nintendo let’s hope the next pokemon games are even better!

Game was quite expensive in my opinion, tried to sell few things and sorted out some quick ways of getting money but as soon as I got the amount I quickly thought of buying this game, as I highly recommend it, the content is very good, but what can I say about Pokemon games for nintendo, pretty sure most people know however I did struggle with it and had to search few times online, still haven’t finished but it keeps me busy and entertained. I would commend it for people above 12 to be honest, but thats just my opinion, I’m also thinking about buying Pokemon X which is 32, but I would probably have a great time, so I think the money is actually worth it. x

For those who don’t k now what Pokemon is…
“Gotta Catch ‘Em All” may be one of the few phrases you know from this franchise. There are now over 700 creatures to catch, a lot of which are not on this game. This used to be a problem, but the connectivity to other players via Wi-Fi makes it easy to find others to trade with (GTS – Global Trade Station) meaning that anyone and everyone can fulfil this goal if they work towards it.
What else does this game have to offer? Well, the story is pretty simple and linear but there is a massive game beyond the main story. There is quite a bit of reading which can be good for educational purposes and the game can promote strategic thinking; More than you would expect… Not only are all 700+ of these creatures unique in appearance, they have many differences beyond that, so a quick education…
Types – There are 17 types, all of which have strengths and weaknesses to others, some of which are neutral (think Rock, Paper, Scissors). Some Pokemon will have a “Dual-Type” which makes it more complicated, but the same principal applies.
Moves – Each Pokemon can learn a maximum of 4 moves. These moves can be learned through levelling up by gaining experience from battling, taught using in-game items or through breeding. A Pokemon may be able to learn over 50 different moves, all of which have their own type and can be used to damage the opponent or change their status…
Status – A Pokemon can be Burnt (meaning their attack now does less damage), Paralysed (meaning they are now slower and may not be able to attack that turn), Asleep (meaning they may not be able to attack that turn), Posioned (meaning they will lose health after every turn).
Each Pokemon has a different set of stats that will dictate how they battle. (HP/Hit Points, Attack, Defence, Special Attack, Special Defence and Speed). Not only are these different for every Pokemon, they will also be different for two Pokemon that are the same species due to their “Nature”.
Natures – There are over 20 Natures each Pokemon can have, most of which increase one stat by 10% while reducing another by 10%. This may be the difference between winning and losing, as the faster Pokemon usually goes first.
IV’s/Individual Values – For the more experienced players to consider. IV’s can be 0 or 31. This value means that each stat on every Pokemon can be altered even further beyond Nature and Species. Not only that, but EV’s/Effort Values mean that each Pokemon can be even more finely tuned/unique within it’s stats.
Breeding… All of the above can be dictated with in-game breeding. Two Pokemon (if compatible) can create an Egg which will hatch into another Pokemon. The mechanics of this are for the more hardcore gamer, but think of it as Dogs and Pedigrees. Better Pokemon, when bred properly, can create stronger offspring than those with weaker parents.
There is more beyond all of this, but all of this information is just the tip of the iceberg to show you that this game is far from simple. There’s a reason it has lasted for nearly 2 decades since Pokemon Red/Blue first appeared and it has gotten deeper and better presented every time a new game has been released.

This game was the reason I bought my 3DS XL well over a year ago. Unfortunately I couldn’t justify the game price tag so I just ended up using old DS games on it. However, I have finally bought this game, and it is beautiful. As Sapphire was my favourite game as a child and the second game I ever played (I owned every “colour” Pokemon at one point from every gen) this remake is so worth the money. If you complete the storyline quickly however, you may have a hard time knowing what to do with the game – I found this and just ended up trying to get all the legendaries which unfortunately I got bored of pretty quickly.

I liked Omega Ruby so much that I bought this one too. And it was worth it. If you are not a hardcore Pokmon fan, don’t bother buying both of them, they are the same game but with subtle differences (for example, the Pokmon on the game’s box is exclusive to that version). I’m sure you know this anyways, they’ve been doing this since the nineties.
Anyways, the game features lots of post-game content and competitive elements for those who care, and catching ’em all has been made easier thanks to including a bunch of older legendary Pokmon that were previously a pain to acquire, and one of the previous event-only Pokmon has also been made easily available at last. Great game, can’t recommend it enough.

A REAL remake!
If you played the originals like me and are still a pokemon fan this is a must buy – The game does a great job with the original story, and will take you on a huge nostalgia trip. And this isn’t just because it’s a remake of the game you played all those years ago, the game knows it’s a remake and does flaunt this on a number of occasions, really (for me) making me admire Game freak on this masterpiece! The story is certainly worth it, and is also expanded from the originals – but I will not say anything else on that as this would be giving your spoilers.
2 disappointments for me were being able to change your character’s appearance (brought in in XY) is gone, which imo is a step down, and also that there is no battle frontier or something of a similar nature. The battle maison from XY is back, and to me it is just not a very exciting end game place for battling.
These 2 things are not enough to make my lower my 5 star rating however. The game is great in it’s own right, I will leave it to you readers to see why for yourself! One thing I can say for certain – there is plenty for both a newcomer to this and those who have played the originals to enjoy from this game!

The original Sapphire was my favourite game growing up, so I was excited for this remake, but also worried that it would not be good, as remakes of other games have left me disappointed in previous years. I was wrong. Nintendo have outdone themselves! They have managed to update the gameplay and introduce the Mega evolutions and Primal evolutions very well, without making it feel like an entirely different game. Without putting spoilers in, there were definitely some nods to us adults that have followed the franchise since childhood. All in all, this is a must have for any Pokemon fan.

Bought this and Ruby for my boy for Christmas. When Ruby arrived in its Amazon package, excitement levels exploded. Yep he opened it early for Christmas and it transported me back to looking at the top of his head from the 90’s onwards..(mums you know this view of gamers) A great hit and I made him wait till 25/12 for sapphire. .. mums in their 40’s I’d recommend this for your son’s in their 20 ‘s. . Some things they never grow out of. .

In this pokemon game is absolutely the best, Nintendo have really taken on board all the complaints and bad things about the last few games and created this masterpiece
story and animationwise it’s the best pokemon game created so far. unfortunately from a play ability point of view it’s not great, it’s way too easy pokemon typing and strategy is pointless you can win the game very quickly without effort. think they need to give the powers a shift so lv100 is only as strong as 50 currently, i finished the game with only 3 L40 pokemon.
