What to consider when buying a nightlatch
Which size do I need?
Yale Nightlatches come in two different backset sizes that fit different door types.
Make sure you measure the door before you purchase one. The backset on a night latch is the distance from the centre of the keyhole to the edge of your door.

Smaller than expected...
The lock was smaller than normal, but it is still okay for the job.
Connecting the two parts is important to be super precise.
We bought two and they work as expected. We have put a closing mechanism on one of the doors, and it doesn’t always automatically lock…which is a reason we wanted it to lock automatically.
Nice lock, easy to fi
This was bought to replace a badly fitted 40mm night latch. I admit that I’ve done a lot of DIY, including fitting locks, but for any competent DIYer, this should be a straightforward fit, as long as you follow the instructions carefully and have the right tools (32mm spade drill bit and a good, sharp chisel are a must).
The lock is up to the expected Yale quality. It’s not the highest security rating, but it’s sufficient for our needs as we have other locks on the door for security. For the price, it’s excellent.

The venerable Yale lock on our front door decided to completely jam. Fortunately, I saw this on Amazon Warehouse “as new” for less than 12. Even better, it arrived the following morning!
As I suspected, this lock is effectively identical to the old one on our door. As such, I was able to use the old barrel (so our old keys still work) and the old latch. ie. I just replaced the old lock body with just 3 screws! It all works perfectly and the job took just 5 minutes.
That’s compared to the 250 (+ VAT) a local locksmith quoted us……

Same dimensions as my older lock. Has a manual switch to hold the lock open which was different on the older lock. A different color, but looks good and works as expected.

I got this to replace a broken, rather inexpensive lock. Should have got one of these to start with. It’s well made, obvious build quality. Glad to see Yale locks are still as good as I remembered.
Perfect replacement for my worn out pa
I didn’t bother fitting the lock tumbler and using the new keys.
I just needed the piece for inside the home with the “night latch” as mine was badly worn.
This was a perfect fit. I was able to use the screw holes from previous lock, so installed in 5 mins.

Quality replacement lock
Bought to replace original yale lock that had loose operating knob. Installed without any modifications. Just removed original and replaced directky. Kept barrel and keys as spare for future

Was purchased as a replacement for the same lock which had broken after 24 years. Easy to fit to original mounting plate which was helpful as didn’t require additional drilling to the door. Smooth mechanism. Was half the price of B&Q.

So easy to replace the old existing lock
I was going to get someone to replace our existing Yale lock for us as the lock was getting very difficult to get the key into – some of our spare keys couldn’t go into it at all. I had never attempted to change a lock before (even though I do a lot of DIY) – partly because it’s so crucial to home security and I didn’t want to make it worse – but I read the reviews and saw that it was apparently straightforward to do. Luckily it was almost an exact match so it was simply a case of unscrewing the old screws to get the old lock off, and then replacing it with the new one. The only thing we did do, was to use the circular old metal bit which goes flat against the inside of the door, before putting the lock itself on, because the new one was slightly longer and didn’t fit the hole already there. A minor problem though (hence 4 stars instead of 5 – but not an actual fault of the lock), and we now have a good working lock with no worries about not being able to get into our home!

I read the instructions carefully and suddenly found a warning note to say this product cannot be used on doors opening outwards which really through me. So unfortunately I have had to return the product as it cannot be used to do the job I had wanted. The customer service with refunding was superb and I would like to highly recommend the lock for an inward opening door and also the customer support of this company.

Basic lock.
I only wanted the night-latch portion of the kit which was very sturdy and good positive click.
Also, I replaced the 3 fitting screws with longer ones.
Good job but expensive, I did not want to buy any other lock in case the barrel or screws did not align. This was perfect but reccomend using deadbolts as well as not exactly secure.

Does wot a yale lock does… there are cheaper out there… but its a yale… i know it will last… and its outside on my side gate. Recommend.
Update… coming to the end of winter.. my yale lock has given me no problems at all… its on my side gate… open to all weathers… recommend

Good sturdy basic lock
Bought this to replace a very old damaged lock, did the job, no problems with installing
It is good quality and easy to install...but is more difficult to operate than the one it replaces. I will look for one that locks open by turning the inside knob all the way.

It’s a Yale lock. Everything you would expect from a tried and trusted company. Great value for money, really glad to find on Amazon with their speedy next delivery.
Bolts just slightly too long for our 1 5/8 inch door and a stainless color. Used llock washers to get the slightly too long bolts to tighten. Then,, needed an odd cross tool for the screws. A Phillips driver will not work. I did not Notch out the lock side or the gap would be to wide and exposed from the outside. It seated solidly without notching the door. I did notch the hasp side and I still feel that the hasp should be larger with more screws for security. Used a hole saw attachment for drill to install the cylander. Good lock so far.
